Englund is new to the school, but I thought he was a great teacher and made the class very entertaining. He's a funny and caring guy and if he's still around I would definitely recommend!

He's a straight up PIMP. Arguably the BEST professor for this class despite the time (MW 6-8pm). The workload is very reasonable and there's pretty much no homework. We just have weekly quizzes, MTs, and some group work here and there. A good class to take when you have a crazy workload

Professor Englund is not great at presenting information in lectures, and it is hard to take notes at the pace he goes in class.

This class was extremely boring and I would not recommend taking this! Englund does not care about his students, and if you email him, he will not respond. He also does not post grades so you go into the final completely blindsided about your grade. He reads straight from the slides and goes so fast that you cannot take notes. He only allows 8 minutes for 10-15 question quizzes and 80 minutes for the final, which is 100 questions. Overall, do not take this class. He is not a friendly guy, does not care about his ob or his students, and is SUCH a boring class. Take a HIST class to fulfill this GE instead.

Englund knows that his class is a GE for a lot of students. He does assign reading, but you mostly don't have to read it in order to do the quizzes. All the material is online and he has weekly quizzes. He mostly lets students out early, and while he does drone in lecture a bit, he has a good sense of humor. It's not a high-effort GE, but it does require some effort -- don't forget to do your online quizzes and extra credit quizzes! (There are many). Out of class, it's about 1-2 hours a week. Unless you do extra credit as well.

This class was an easy A. All you had to do was weekly quizzes which are all online and some group projects. For group projects. he randomly assigns you to one and he expects you to communicate with them through email which was annoying because communication could be difficult when don't even know or SEE the people you work with, but works out at the end if your group mates are not total freeloaders and they do their part of the work. The exams are also easy too as long as you do the readings and look at the slides. You don't need to go to his class honestly except when you do the simulation. I only went to his classes because I thought the Englund is a cool and funny guy even though its REALLY hard to hear what he's saying most of the time. He goes through the slides a bit fast but I could just look them over after when he posts it. This is a good class if you want a lighter-load class to balance all of your harder classes.

The lectures are not very helpful, you might be better off just reading his slides and the textbook and skipping class. The midterms are not cumulative and they are online so it's easy to look back at notes or online

Englund has remarkable work experience in foreign affairs, and he relates the course subject matter to these experiences, as well as the various experiences of friends and former colleagues. His teaching style is very dry, as is his humor, but he's entertaining. His explanations are clear, and he will help you if asked.

Super knowledgeable on foreign affairs and international politics. Really nice guy, although a little introverted, but towards the end of the course he told about his experiences with the FBI and deployment, which were super interesting. Make sure you read everything... I'm not joking. His quizzes are pretty specific and a lot of it comes from the reading, but it's all online and you can take it on your personal computer.

On the first day of class, Englund introduced himself and told the class of his experiences in "intelligence work" while showing pictures of his experiences. I was not the only one who found this odd. Based on his background in the government, he is extremely militaristic and favors strong military policy, which came out in his lessons a bit. His lectures were dry; he simply read from the prepared powerpoint. Class was always let out an hour early or so. Attendance was taken extremely often, however, so it is necessary to show up. The weekly quizzes were online and had short time limits, like 8 minutes for 11 questions. Doing the reading was important because there was not enough time to look up the answers. The final was really simple, most of the questions were from previous quizzes or practice quizzes. Not too hard of a course, as long as you do the work, but Scott is ... not my favorite person. He tries to be funny but it does not really work out. His intelligence background clearly shows, and not in a positive way.

Weekly quizzes and assigns 1-2 chapters of reading per week (his lectures cover the same material generally, however). His lectures are very informative and he is good at presenting the information based on personal experiences, such as his work for the FBI and the Department of Defense. There is no writing requirement for this class, which is nice. His quizzes are detailed but not too difficult if you attend class and complete the required readings. He also offers extra credit fairly often. Overall a good professor and an interesting guy with a dry but funny sense of humor.
