Gaudi, Franklin Paul  

DO NOT take this class if you dont absolutely have to. He seems like a pretty cool guy and it was awesome how he posted lecture notes and always kept polylearn up to date, but this class turned out to be a nightmare. The workload was totally excessive. The first test wasn't that bad, but on the second two the class average was 64 and he refused to curve them. It's not that the material is that difficult, it's just that the questions he asks are so unclear and it's just not an accurate measurement of how much we studied or knew the material, he just wanted us to put literally exactly what he had on the slides or something... The homework sets took FOR EVER and had tons of calculations that we never ever went over in class or otherwise. He would also make them due on test days so there was no way to know if we got everything right before being tested on the material we all just had to teach ourselves. Once I went into his office hour and he was absolutely ZERO help and even condescending. He just sat there and stared at me, talked to me like I was stupid when I was asking him questions because I didn't understand, and he'd just ask me the same thing that I didn't know over and over again. The labs were also absolutely ridiculous too. There were labs on Monday and Tuesday and, he made us all turn them in during lecture on Wednesday, so my lab class had less than 24 hours to complete these extremely long, tedious, unclear labs that had super ambiguous short answer questions. I know this is an Area F GE class, so a lot of people who weren't necessarily required by their major to take it were in it, but if that is the case for you, AVOID THIS CLASS.

In class today he said he got his first poly rating, so I decided to be second. He is very enthusiastic about irrigation and knows a lot about the subject. He post everything on poly learn which is nice as well. Do not take this class if you like 8 emails a day from the same teacher. That being said, this class is a ton of work. You have a problem set due every week which consist of 40 questions with many calculations. They are not easy and take a long time. With those problem sets due every week, you also have a lab report due in very short time and they can take a long time if you decide not to copy them. 3 midterms and a final and a term paper that is 6-7 pages long. Nice guy, but way to much work that wasn't always explained to clearly.

I took this class because it was ag-related and it also fulfills area F. Overall Professor Gaudi is a great teacher and a great person. If you go to class and go to your lab you will do fine. Labs were difficult because they were due the following day, but they were not impossible. Take notes, show up to class, and pay attention. He also one upped my other teachers by bringing in several speakers that work in the field, which is awesome! He is probably the most enthusiastic teacher I've had while in college which makes the class a little less boring, because it tends to be a little boring.

Gaudi is actually a pretty cool guy, he always cracks jokes and can actually relate to students... Sometimes he gets a little off topic and you don't get to go over everything that will be on the homework but its nice to have a teacher who has actually worked in the field which he is teaching. If you do the homework and actually learn the material (which isn't that hard) you can put it all on a notecard and ace the tests. The labs are really straight forward and easy points. Also, he lets you design your own grade which is awesome, no other teacher has let me do that. You have to do the work to earn your grade its as easy as that. Also he always asks what the students want him to change which most teachers never do, this was his first quarter and I'm sure next will be better. He's not as badass as the honey badger but he's still pretty badass.

If your fro the imperial valley you will get an A. He gets a huge ________ . He is not even a Dr. LOL

First off, whoever wrote the first eval for this guy had it completely wrong. Yea he assigns you hw and labs every week but compared to other BRAE classes the workload is all the same. I guess if your used to taking classes that require no effort than dont take this class. The only setback was that labs were due the next day and once he gave us a test on material that we turned in that day. That being said there was only 1 of the 3 tests that were like that...which we got a note card on. He also brought in industry leaders to try to help us get involved in a career. I personally have no desire to go into irrigation but Gaudi did a great job making the class interesting...this class had the potential to suck so much dick. Overall, just put in the work and you will get a A or B. that simple.

Franklin is the man! We have almost weekly hw assignments, they are very similar to the midterms. If you study from those you should be set. He also does this awesome thing where you get to decide how heavily the midterms, final, hw, lab and paper are weighted. He is also great in office hours. I am very mathematically challenged and I never felt like he was belittling or rude in his office hours. Although the tests aren't curved, the class is at the end of the quarter.

Frankie G is a very nice teacher and cool guy. His labs explained most of the class. However, i found his lectures useless and a waste of time. Be prepared to teach yourself most of the homework because it is typically due before labs. More of an online class than anything.

Gaudi was the shit. He is funny, very knowledgeable and willing to help students. I had hard luck on one test and had to go in and talk to him. I worked my ass off and would've gotten a B had he not bumped me to an A- at the end because of attendance and because hes a good guy. If you can, take his class

Franklin is the coolest teacher out there. If you take time to go into office hours he will help you. If you can also take the lab for 340 with him. He does a lot of the work for you and wants you to get a good grade on the labs. Don't be afraid to get involved in the labs, you'll have a lot more fun! He relates the topics to topics we can understand. Do not take the lab with GW, you'll hate it and be jealous of all the cool stories people with Franklin talk about. problem sets are easy and he gives you plenty of time to do them. He grades fairly and curves the grade ONLY IF YOU SHOW UP EVERY DAY! You get a flashcard on all tests which saves your life. Design your grade so you do not have to take the final.

One of my favorite teachers at Cal Poly in three years. Honestly an amazing teacher. Poly is lucky to have him.

Gaudi is the man. He has real world experience and is still very active in the industry. As somebody with a limited agriculture background my intrest in the irrigation industry has greatly increased. Also he lets you weight your own grade making the final optional which is always a plus My only complant would be that he goes on unrelated tangents during his lectures occasionally.

One of the BEST professors at Cal Poly. He wants you to do well in his course, but more importantly wants you to learn things that will actually help you in the real world. He is very straightforward about his expectations. You don't need to read the book if you show up to class, but I don't think I would have earned an A if I hadn't read the book. Design your grades so you don't have to take the final-- I was hesitant and kept the final exam in my designer grades, I regretted it! Although, he offers the CAIS exam through the Irrigation Association in lieu of the final, but it is a tough exam. I studied pretty extensively and only got a 69% (65% is passing). If you show up every day to lecture (he sends around a sign in sheet) he bumps your grade a few percent at the end of the quarter. Makes a big difference. Labs take the full three hours every time, but he makes it worth your while. He basically answers every single lab question in his lab lecture or in the demos. I would highly recommend him as a professor. He is a really cool guy and a very effective instructor.

This guy should change his name to Dr. God-i. Seriously, he is an amazing teacher.

Gaudi is a BALLER. His class is straightforward, relevant, and inspiring. He relates every single concept to a tangible real world experience, and he is realistic in his expectations for his students. He provides so many cool resources throughout the quarter, and he is HILARIOUS. Do the homework assignments and READ THE BOOK and you will be fine on the tests. Listen to what he says -- he sheds a lot of wisdom.

I would NOT take this class unless you have to. The workload was totally excessive, the problem sets take a while if you want to get As on them, and his tests are so hard. I did very poorly on all of the exams although I studied a lot, and got a B in the class because I made sure I did well on everything else. Going to lectures was completely pointless because he just rambled the whole time and talked about random stuff the quarter I had him. If you struggle in the class make sure to go to every lecture because he ends up giving you a few percentage points at the end if you attend every lecture. He is really really nice and chill but I did not think he was a good professor, the whole class was basically teach yourself.

gaudi is great!!! super nice, understanding of student's schedules and hectic lives, and I had his lecture at 7am and he made it so fun and interesting that i went every time.

One of the most organized professors on campus. He keeps his polylearn in check, keeps his class interesting, and continues to adapt to student criticism. As an EESS major, about a quarter of the material is applicable to scenarios for my internship. If you enjoy the topics, you will do well in the class. The workload is reasonable since he gives you about a week to complete a problem-set/ turn in a lab (some are difficult, so work on it throughout the week). If you get good grades on the problem-sets and understand questions from the practice exams, then you are bound to get at least above a B. Gaudi provides so much information and resources for students to utilize. Use those resources and clarify the information you feel uncomfortable with. Participation (class attendance of 70% or higher with the Top Hat questionnaire app), will give you an extra 3% of extra-credit. And if you type up your labs/ create excel sheets/ graphs/ tables, he will give you an additional 5 points of extra credit for each lab report done in such a manner. Showing up to class can really affect your grade either way. He will also allow you to DESIGN HOW YOU WANT TO BE GRADED but to a certain extent. If you plan it out correctly, you can choose to not take a final exam - with distributing the weight of it on your midterm exams, homework, labs, or essay. Reasonable man. Great Personality. Reasonable workload. Interesting Lectures.

Dr Gaudi is super fair in overall grading and presentation of the material. While most people in the class are Ag majors, he ensures that non-ag majors also understand the material to the same extent. All of his labs take the full amount of time but his lectures in lab allow for a more in-depth understanding of the material as well as allowing us hands-on experience. He allows students to design their own grades in order to help them decrease stress level but also to cater to their strengths. It was a 7am class which sucked but it was packed full of information and I found it really interesting. He posts lecture notes and gives people opportunities to ask him for help. He's really responsive to emails and to people coming to office hours or talking after class. He incorporates a lot of different teaching methods into his class from hands on (lab), to digital (PolyLearn and TopHat) to lectures and videos. He also gave us the textbook digitally for free which was so so helpful for me. Overall he delivered the information effectively and made it interesting for someone like me who only took the class because it fit with my schedule times.

GAUDI IS A GOD. All the people on here who don't like him it's because you're too lazy to apply yourself. If you go to office hours, he's super supper helpful. The material is difficult, especially if you aren't familiar with a lot of the concepts because you're taking this as a GE. But Dr. Gaudi (yes he is a doctor) is LITERALLY one of the most qualified individuals in the country to teach it. He's also quite hilarious if you have a shred of a sense of humor.

Gaudi is the most amazing professor I have ever had. Typical lectures can be hard to sit through because their power point slides are usually quiet boring, but Gaudi makes every lecture entertaining. He is hilarious and makes the information very easy to understand. He lets you design the weights of your grades in this class and you can design it to where there is no final!! That is what I did and after the last midterm I was pretty much done with the class. Since this is a larger BRAE class Gaudi offers extra credit if you are in class and there are a majority of students that aren't there. If you ever have a chance to take a class with Gaudi take it!!!

By far the BEST professor i have ever had at Cal Poly. I'm a crop science major and I've learned more in this class than any of my major classes. His tests are pretty easy if you practice the study guide once or twice because they are basically replicas. I highly recommend this professor. Disregard any bad reviews that anybody else has said because they are FAKE NEWS!!! A+

Gaudi is a badass. You want a teacher that loves what he teaches and in a way that you will understand, then take his class. I learned so much from this class that is actually applicable to the real world of Ag. If you're someone who likes to kick back and stroll through a class without doing any work, this isn't the class for you. He's got problem sets due every week or so and a term paper on major issues in Ag irrigation, but all of it actually helps you understand the material and pass the midterms. I enjoyed every minute of it so it was easy A for me. Finally a teacher that doesn't push their liberal views on you. Actually explains the truth on some of the messed up perceptions that people have in California Ag because of the wack job environmentalists and fake news. This class made me want to minor in water science and I highly recommend taking 440 with him and getting your CAIS certification. Disregard any negative comments. Anyone who complains about the work load is a lazy-a$$. BEST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN AT CAL POLY!!!!! and I'm a plant science major.

Dr. Gaudi has been the only professor I have had in my first quarter at Cal Poly where I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of their class. As a first year transfer student actively working in agriculture, I needed a good professor to have some understanding the one time I needed. He is flexible if you are honest and the class is not very hard, yet you learn more than I ever have encountered in the other two colleges I have previously attended. Do yourself a favor and take this class if you like AG at all

First off, I have never had Franky as a teacher. But I was on the field trip for the BRAE 414 and BRAE 440 class in the spring. Franklin would make a tour guide...."if you look over to your left you will see some irrigation, if you look to your right you will see more irrigation." I think Franklin, although his constant talking interrupted my booze induced bus naps, is an outstanding guy. People that are complaining about too much work probably just aren't used to BRAE classes. Every BRAE class I've had is structured the same, you go to class and have homework due at some point, you go to lab and have a report due as well. There might be some tests in the mix as well. In conclusion, maybe don't take the BRAE 340 class if you don't have to because it will take a significant amount of your time. Hey Franklin, Shakah Brah!!!!!

By far one of my favorite teachers at Cal Poly. Lets list his pros first... Pros- Cares about students, relates to his students, your labs are HANDS ON and he tries to be as visual as possible, he can joke around, covers a vast topic really well, really smart, super fair. Cons- at times hw loads can be large. Honestly if you are an AG major this class should be fairly simple for you, and he is one of the few teachers who cares. Also he can double dutch on drip hoses on grass. BADASS P.s. He loves if you draw cats stuck in pipes or sprinklers.

Fuck this guy. Id like to stick my tounge up his ass.
