Dr. C is by far the best physics teacher I have ever had. He really tries to present the material in a way that makes sense to a student, not just reciting the stuff as if everyone knows it already. He is a very fair grader and with a little time and effort it isn\'t hard to get an A or a B in his class. Plus he\'s really friendly and helpful. I strongly recommend him for any of the classes in the first physics cycle!

Ok plan and simple the guy is an above average physics professor...but compared to the rest of the physics department here this guy is a bright star. His lectures are paced well and he is really good at explaining difficult material. I had him for lab as well and he was fine in lab. He likes to talk ALOT in the beginning of lab but you can basically ask him to do every question in the lab for you and he will walk you through it if you need it. Home work is collected every tuesday but its not that bad only like 10 probs a week or so. the part that I really liked about him was his grading policy and his office hours. Tests are curved enourmously and he is extremely helpful in office hours. its pretty much impossible to fail his class if you put any effort in and if you actually try to learn the material you will most likely walk away with a B at worst

If you have the opportunity, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I cannot stress this fact enough. He loves students, he presents material clearly, and he'll help you out if you need it. He does make a lot of mistakes during class, but just point them out and he'll fix em and thank you. His tests are HARD AND LONG, but the curve is EXTREMELY generous. Class average of about 50% on the first midterm, and that was then set as an 80%. Homework is weekly and doesn't take too long, and he also recommends extra problems if you want more study material. In Lab, he's very helpful with any problems you might have. The only Con I would give to Coroneus might be that we'll sometimes get behind when he spends a lot of time explaining a problem that only a single person in class will have problems with. Seriously, take this guy. This is my 2nd quarter with him, and couldn't have asked for a better professor.

Dr.C is a genuinely nice guy, but could work on explaining things better. The material is not difficult, but he tends to over-complicate things with his elaborate analogies. Also, the constant algebraic errors don't help. If you have any question at all he is glad to explain it completely though. Grading is pretty fair, he curves up to a B-.

I wouldn't call him the best physics teacher. He was often confusing in lectures and would overcomplicate topics that should have been much simpler. Expect to feel like shit after his first test. Seriously, this will happen. But in the end he's pretty fair with the curve, you just freak out until you get your final grade. No matter how many times he explains his curving process, it won't make sense. There are 2 midterms, a final, a lab grade, and a homework grade. If you want your homework back at any point, make sure to go to him. He will not come to you with it. He's GREAT in lab though. The lab's aren't stressful and he'll talk you through any/every thing if you ask for help, which I highly recommend. Expect to work your butt off if you want to do well.

He's a really nice guy and passionate about physics. He can be very unclear about material at times and a little confusing. His tests are insanely long at times. Overall he's good for a physics teacher, but not as great as people on here crack him up to be.

I only had him for lab, but he was an amazing lab professor. Great guy, totally keen on helping you not only get the experiment done but understand what was going on. Grades were not too harsh and if there was a problem that plagued the whole class in the Lecture with our other teacher, he was willing to spend time in Lab fixing the problem and showing us what to do. Would definitely recommend him as a lab instructor.

Prof. C is excellent professor. He knows a right way to teach the materials. It was good to have a class with him.

====PROS==== Dr. Coroneus is simply incredible at explaining complicated material (and that's really nice, since 133 is not an easy/intuitive course). His lectures are highly example-based, which is really helpful. The best part of Dr. Coroneus is his personality. He is the only physics professor I have had who really seems like he enjoys helping his students understand material. His office hours were HIGHLY helpful. ====CONS==== Coroneus is infamous for making tons of algebraic errors as he works out in-class examples, so always pay close attention and don't be afraid to raise your hand if something doesn't make sense. ====CLASS NOTES==== Homework is collected on a weekly basis and is graded for correctness, so it isn't wise to slack off there. Other than homework, two midterms and a final make up the rest of your grade. Dr. Coroneus applies a true bell-curve to each exam (midterms included) and makes the top of the bell an 80%. Additionally, he will always weight your midterms based on your scores at the end of the course (for example, if you score a 60% and an 80% on the two midterms respectively, Dr. Coroneus will give more weight to the second midterm when computing your final grade). Attendance is not taken, but it would be highly unwise to skip lectures as the material is difficult and the book is unclear.

This guy was awesome and I enjoyed learning from him. He is really friendly, both in class and in office hours, so definitely go to office hours because they are useful. He will pretty much tell you the scenarios that will be on the test. Also, he barely ever gives quizzes, which I like. His homework policy is nothing out of the ordinary. He is a good teacher, but physics is hard anyway so you probably wont get it right away. He has a tendency to make silly mistakes during lecture, and so it is best to point them out when he makes them. That way he will not waste time bumbling around wondering what he did wrong. So, yes I recommend him.

Prof C is a very nice guy and he grades really fairly, but I would not recommend taking 141 from him. He goes into long, confusing examples throughout the entire class and never connects anything back to the homework or what you're currently reading in the textbook. So, he may be great to invite over to your backyard barbeque and have a nice chat with, but I dont think he's very good at teaching intro-level physics.

Coming into PHYS 141, I had AP Physics B from high school under my belt (I won't tell you what AP score I got, except that I got between a 3 and a 5). Yet, I only understood half of what Prof C was doing on the board during lecture. The course itself is not very hard; the homework from the book is fairly easy (It starts with vector kinematics and ends with work/torque, no waves, optics, or EM thank god). A typical lecture consisted of Prof C deriving an equation he did not give us to get another equation. Many of my classmates would agree that Prof C does not lecture. Instead, he takes up the entire class time solving one to three example problems based off equations and concepts he never taught the class. It is unclear as to what he is trying to solve for in some example problems, and I can guarantee you that he will make at least one algebraic mistake while trying to solve the problem, which he will then blame the class for not catching. Prof C curves his tests, but in a weird way. Prof C sets the mean as a B, and uses the standard deviation as the difference between each letter grade. Since the standard deviation for the tests in his class is so high (those who took AP versus those who didn't), while it is very hard to get an A on the test, it is also very hard to get an F. This works against those who scored better than the average. The tests themselves are either review or very hard, depending on how much you learned before PHYS 141. Don't count on Prof C's lectures to get you a good grade. It should be mentioned that Prof C sometimes collects homework and doesn't give the homework back to you when he collects it. You aren't really sure what grade you got on your homework either, since his Poly Learn isn't updated until the end of the quarter. Prof C is an enthusiastic physicist with a likable personality, but his ability to relay concepts to the class is very mediocre.

I switched physics classes because I wasn't content with my original professor, and I am so glad I did. I can honestly say Prof C is my favorite professor and teacher so far at Poly. He is clear with his presentation of the material, thoroughly develops his examples so anyone can follow his logic/work, and teaches so anyone/everyone can understand the subject material. Physics 141 may not be the hardest class, but Prof C makes sure that his students know the basics well and understand the theory behind the equations. Excellent professor, clear presenter and speaker, and overall great guy. A+ in my book. (P.S. the administrators of PolyRatings should combine John George Coroneus and John Coroneus. They are the same professor.)

This professor did not help me learn physics at all. I completely relied on the book and teaching myself through this entire course. I missed two classes the entire quarter and can honestly say I learned nothing from Prof C. He is a nice guy and personable but when it comes to physics don't take him if you want a professor that will teach you what you need to know. He purposefully put questions on the test that you had no idea how to solve. It was curved but just knowing that your teacher wants impossible questions on his test that will stress you out and waste your exam time is very frustrating.
