Very good profesr for lab. He really knows his stuff and when you need help he is there to help. Sometimes it may be hard to get questions answerd outside of the class because he is very busy since he is the dean of the college of science and math. Also his grading is a little hard to understand sometimes. But he will generaly answer any questions you have in class about the lab or the grading. I would reqimend taking Bailey for your lab.

I have never felt the need to evaluate a teacher on this site, but I feel the need to do so now. Bailey is hands down the best lab instructor I have ever had. He makes lab so enjoyable and I always leave in a better mood than when I got there (which never really happens in labs). He grades his lab reports to his liking, so if you do what he asks, you\'ll get an A. Oh, and he\'ll bring you a box of girl scout cookies each the week before dead week. TAKE HIMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!! Best choice I have made at Cal Poly

Just awesome. He is totally willing to help you with anything you need. Genuinely cares about everyone in the class (he knew EVERYONE's name before the start of the second lab) and will make sure that you know what is going on. Even made sure we all had rides home after day light savings and it was dark before lab ended for the first time. Just a great guy, if you are lucky enough to take him...DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Bailey is the best of the best. It makes sense in that he's the dean of the college, he didn't get there by doing nothing. He doesn't have to teach, but choses to keep teaching ochem lab because he truly enjoys doing it. He really cares about the students, and learns your names like immediately. He is really helpful and enjoys explaining things and answering questions. I would highly reccomend taking him, definately the best teacher I have ever had.

Dean Bailey is a cool guy, good teacher, and fun lab professor. However he grades REALLY STRICTLY on lab reports. Theres a lab report for 3/4 of the lab. and it accounts for a huge percentage of your grade. You either get a 90, 70, 50, or 30. 100-90 if you did everything right. 70 if you made a little error somewhere. 50 and 30 if you made a huge error somewhere. I cant imagine what you would get if you didnt even try. I tried but I still got poor grades. If it wasnt for the lab, I would have gotten a B in OCHEM2II. Bailey will help you learn... but work your ass off in the lab reports and make sure he reviews it first!

I honestly don't know where to put this comment because Dr Bailey has been an alright lab instructor, which isn't hard work but certainly isn't a walk in the park. That said, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is pretty awful now. My older sister went here eight years ago and it was insanely good. Since then, so man of the great professors have either retired or left and the ones leftover are just okay. Dr Bailey is a great dean for the students but is he paying any attention to the faculty? I feel like the only good department in COSAM at the moment is Biology, yet the grad students there are miserable. I feel like I came to Cal Poly years too late, because the legends of Schoonover, Lindert, Simek, and Frey are what the students now seem to talk about. Everything now seems so sterile.
