Dr. Cavalletto is a terrible teacher, he doesn't know shit about what he's teaching, his T.A's pretty much run the labs. His class was the worst I had at Poly this year. He's boring, can't keep anyone's attention and is a complete idiot.

This was the best course I took all quarter. I wasn't really sure what I was getting into when I picked this major, but after Dr. Cavaletto's class I'm sure I am in the right major. The class got to do a bunch of interesting things like a great field trip and a really cool final project that we completed with the help of a faculty member. This class made me feel at home with the department and it made me realize how much fun classes can be if you get involved.

Dr.Cavaletto is soooo boring. He can't teach at all and when you ask him a question he just bullshits his way around it.

Dr Cavalleto really sticks to the "Rules" insted of being realilistic. if you jump through all his hoops and act like he is actually teaching you something (when in fact everything i learned from him was self taught), you should do well. I made the mistake of putting my whole heart into the term project, and slacked on 2 minor things, thus getting the B. Our project was the best thing this class has ever seen, so we got an A on it, but because of those 2 minor things that would have taken me less than 1 hr to do, my grade suffered. basicaly, over 200 hrs of work = got me a B because it wasn't 201 hrs. Be carefull, and play his game.

Cavaletto is a good ol' boy. He tries to make a real boring class somewhat exciting. If you do your work and have a good attitude, Cavaletto will be very nice to you. He really tries his best to be a good teacher.

Dr. Cavaletto presents material and then gives easy assignments. Whats to complain about! He makes things exciting my incorportating field trips! Some of the best teachers I ever have get the worst ratings... so take the class and learn from your own experiences. Or miss out or worse get a worse instructor cause you listened to someone else.

Regardless of what everyone else says about Dr. Cavaletto, I really enjoyed his class. Although, lectures seemed long and a little on the boring side, the labs were great. He is really easy to get along with and presents the class material in an organized manner. I would definitely recomend Dr. Cavaletto.

Just a good ol boy. A boring class but he tries his hardest to make the class entertaining. I don't know what's up with his bad wrap.

Mr. Cavaletto seems to have a self esteem problem. If you ask a question in class he does his best to make you look as stupid as possible to hide his own ignorance of the material. All he does in lecture is copy his notes onto the board and pretends that he is doing it from memory. He can't come up with an origional problem to save his life, when he tries it never comes out right (a 400'x 50' lagoon?). The worst part is he is the only one that teaches the class, so my advice is this; Don't let him know you are smarter than him or he won't give you the A (notice my grade above).

AE/ASM Students beware!!!!! If and when you take Rich for a class you will be sorry. AE 433 is a class that is so important for your future as an engineer. I feel that I was cheated/did not get my money's worth from Dr. Cavaletto. I truly feel that I would have gotten so much more from a civil engineering class. That hurts me to say that, because I think that the Ag Engineering Department/Major is the best major at Cal Poly. Dr. Cavaletto, if you read this you need to not be so lazy when it comes to your projects in class. If you want students to do an accurate professional job on a project you need to give a problem with some sort of details. For example the wood design project Fall Quarter 99, the project description was a quarter page long. You basicly said you wanted a rectangular buliding, come back in three weeks with a working design. If you want to do this types of projects in the future look to Dr. Mark Zohns and see how he lays out the time line for such projects. Also grade your fucking papers don't let them sit around all quarter. You make homework due on a certain day, please return them on a certain day.

Cavaletto simply cannot teach, the vagness of his lectures and work bogles the mind. I mean, this guy knows nothing about structures sometimes it feels that the student knows more than the professor, I mean not to be cruel but he needs some good orginizational skills in this class. The lectures need to teach the students something rather then leaving them woundering about what the hell they learned the last 50 minutes. If you can stay clear of him, but if you cannot god have mercy on your soul.

Dr. Cavaletto is a very busy man as our dept head and kind of got screwed into teaching our 232 class. this is the only reason i don't completely fail him in this evaluation. the classes were very unorganized, quizzes were never the same difficulty and the final was impossible, but like i said ol yildizy kind of screwed him over leaving like he did. in conclusion a dry professor but not all that bad

Dr. Cavaletto presented all of the material very clearly. Although at times his lectures seemed to be long and drawn out, he made sure that every student understood the concept before moving on. This is a tough class to make fun and exciting, but he did a good job overall of teaching the material.

Its impossible for asm majors to avoid cavaletto, and you gotta take safety to graduate. I don't reccomend you buy the book for this class, its useless and expensive. What I do reccomend you do is go to every class, try not to sleep and re-read all of his handouts. He will actually teach you a lot about safety if you are interested. If you are not this ambitious (lets face it- we're talkin about the college of ag here) then just re-read his handouts right before you get to lab and you will probably do ok on his quiz. Then again, even if you fail all his quizzes you can still get an A in the class. Just bullshit the homework and study for the final. Safety can be the most important and boring part of ASM, but since you have to take it just go to campus market beforehand, git yourself something with caffeine and bring a pillow if needed.

Dr. Cavaletto is an arrogent son of a bitch that has a very bad attitude towards his students. He does not know how to teach well at all. He does not make class interesting at all. On average, half of the class slept. If at all possible, do not take this guy for a class or you will regret it.

Dr.Cavaletto isn't a very good instructor in my opinion, but with very slight changes, he could be. He can't answer simple questions about material he presents in class. He often makes smart remarks to students, and not in a joking way. He grades IIPP papers like the students are professionals, when we obviously are not. At points, a few of his lectures were somewhat interesting, but overall they we simply boring powerpoint presentations. All he did was read the exact materials available on the web site. The ONLY reason I went to class was because of his quizzes. The Website is very useful, and probably the best thing about the course. The labs were as pointless and boring as the lectures. Including almost 2 hours of time wasted on how to use a fire extinguisher, a principle taught in lower level BRAE classes. Other pointless labs were when the class spent Almost 2 hours being shown gloves, boots, masks, and other BASIC, COMMON KNOWLEDGE, personal protection equipment. There isn't anyone else who teaches this course, and it's too bad. If you think this is just a site to rip on educators at Cal Poly, check Dr. Zohn's evaluation, it's a 4.0! Why? Because he cares, and he actually educates the students, not just boring them with redundant information. My $.02

Cavaleto is the worst damn teacher that I have ever had. His classes are pointless, and could have been taught by anyone. This man should not be allowed to teach young minds any where in the world. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!! TRANSFER

Dr. Cavaletto is a nice professor. Although I think he needs help on presenting the material to the class and the activities that go on in it. The class itself feels like a workshop. The quizzes can be tricky at times. He makes you choose your own percentages to allocate quizzes, homework, labs, final, etc. Expect a ton of handouts and do your best to stay awake in the class.

This was a horribly taught class. the information was presented terribly and was mostly common sense knowledge. The final was nowhere near the same caliber as the first midterm. By that I mean it was on a whole different difficulty scale. The class is pointless and if it were not a major course i would say that it should be avoided at all costs. In fact i think it should be removed from the ASM cirriculum.

The class isn't hard. The paper and book report are pretty easy, just as long as you don't start the night before. The tests and final are hand cramping and a little difficult. The financial part was probably the most confusing.

The material seems simple enough. When it comes to the midterm and final, I wondered if it was really taught during lecture. The project and presentation was alright.

It's too bad this guy is the only one that teaches the structures courses. They would be really fun if he would put in a little effort and learn how to teach. Dr. Cavaletto, if you are reading this I would suguest you take a teaching lesson from Dr. Zohns.

THIS MAN SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO TEACH THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF TODAY. HIS IS AN INSECURE MAN WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF A PENUT. HIS LITTLEMANS DESEASE IS SO BAD THAT HE FINDS IT NECESSARY TO GIVE HIS BEST STUDENTS BAD GRADE BECAUSE THEY CAN MAKE HIM LOOK STUPID IN CLASS. ANOTHER TOPIC THAT IS, IN MY OPINION, THE REASON HE SOULD BE FIRED FROM TEACHING IS HIS LAZYNESS. SOME OF HIS HANDOUTS ARE FROM WHEN HE TOOK THE CLASS AS A STUDENT HERE AT CAL POLY. THEY ARE OUT DATED AND HARD TO READ. HE ALSO TAKES HANDOUT FROM OTHER TEACHERS AND TRIES TO HIDE THE NAME BUT TO NO AVAIL. IF A STUDENT USES SOMEONE ELSES WORK, THEY GET THROWN OUT OF SCHOOL, WELL, LET'S HOLD OUR TEACHERS ACCOUNTABLE. IN CLOSING, THIS TEACHERS IS JUST HERE TO COLLECT A PAYCHECK. HE RIDES HIS TENURE LIKE A LAZY TEXAN. YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIS COURSES BECAUSE THEY ARE REQUIRED, JUST DON'T TAKE ANY SHIT FROM HIM. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS BECAUSE HE CAN'T ANSWER THEM. IF YOU GET HIM ON THE RUN HE WILL GET NERVOUS AND THEN START TO BAG ON THE STUDENTS. WHEN THIS HAPPENS GO TO THE DEPARTMENT HEAD AND EXPLAIN. WE DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS!
