Really cool teacher. You do not have to take notes in class but only study the text for the test which is multiple choice and its answers are straight out of the book. Make sure you participate in the class discussions or your grade will suffer in the end. She is very strict about that. Besides that, a great teacher who explains everything very clearly.

She's a great teacher. It is important you go to all of the classes and speak up in class to earn participation points. She gives a fairly generous curve on tests, but they can be fairly difficult. It's important to read the chapters in the book. An interesting and entertaining lecturer... Im taking her for other classes for sure!

If you a looking for the easiest option or a class to sleep through then keep looking. If you want to get something for your $1400 a quarter than I recommend Ellis. A truly human professor, not a 20 year veteran of a syllabus. Some professors tell you how you will spend every minute of the next ten weeks of your school life, with Ellis it can all change at any time. When it changes it is usually a class decision and it makes things better for all. Ellis' class is like real life, unpredictable but if you put in a little effort, very rewarding. 40% of your grade is participation/attendance.

Dr. Ellis is one of those awesome professors who really works hard for her own. She definitely has all the real world experience and her passion for her field shows in her lectures. This two hour class was an hour of lecture, then an hour where we all sat around and discussed a case study, which was actually really interesting and made the time go by a lot faster. I enjoyed this class, Dr. Ellis is definitely one of those teachers I hope I have again and again. She's very interesting, and is more interested in her students interacting with the material than just with making all the graded stuff really really hard. Participation makes up 40% of your grade, but it's really not hard to participate, just take part in the case study discussions, which are fun anyway.

Dr. Ellis is a wonderful person! This class was pretty entertaining because the material is interesting. You read a chapter every night and then you read and do a case study relating to the material you read. In class, she lectures for the first hour and then we discuss our case study for the next. Our classroom made it kind of hard to participate since it was a sort of rectangularish room so make sure you sit in the middle to participate a lot. Your grade will count on it. She wants you to participate AT LEAST twice a day. Your grade consists of three midterms (60%) and participation (40%). The only disadvantage of the grading system is your final grade is up in the air. She did generously curve all of our tests though. Her questions are tricky. I would say to get an A in this class you must read the text and GO TO CLASS. Listening to her lectures actually help you on the test!

Dr. Ellis is a good professor and this class was a good intro to HR. Lectures are nice because half of the time is spent analyzing a case or something similar, and the other half is lecture. It makes the classes pretty painless, but she does require you to turn in your case analysis every day. Her tests are pretty difficult - not tricky - just application based where knowing definitions is not sufficient enough. She gives a generous curve on the exams, though. Dr. Ellis is easily available for help if you need it outside of class. The only annoying part about the class is that participation counts for a big percentage of your grade, so during the case analysis, you will spend a lot of time with your hand raised, hoping to get called on before someone says the exact same thing you were going to say.

Take Ellis!!! She is an awesome teacher and has so much knowledge to offer students about human resources. The class is pretty easy 3 midterms and no final, however, class participation is 40% of our grade so make sure to speak up.

Professor Ellis\' class was wonderful. The homeworks and case studies are all very straightforward and she gives you a sheet that you can essentially fill in the blanks with. As it has been said over and over again, participation is everything. Come to class, raise your hand, follow along with the presentations in your book, and ask good questions! The tests are graded generously, but many answers are subject to interpretation... 50 questions, multiple choice, again, very straightforward. A great class that I would recommend to anyone. The material can be bland at times, but Professor Ellis really encourages class discussions and injects some humor into her lectures.

Ellis is a cool teacher, but she is NOT KIDDING when she says participate in class. Class participation is 40% of your grade. I got an 87% B on the first midterm, and an A on the second, but got a B- in the class because I didn't raise my hand very much. If you are shy it will hurt you in this class. Other than that, the tests are not too challenging if you do all the reading. I liked Ellis overall.

She did not appear to be coherent, at times, in her lectures. I was concerned for her. She is a very nice woman. At times, she seems lost, confused and slurred in words. She knows her stuff. She seemed tired, stressed or just trying too hard. I did learn alot and make sure you (1) participate, (2) do the readings and (3) visit during her office hours.

Professor Ellis is an excellent teacher. 40% of the class is based on participation so your forced to speak. The first hour is lecture and the second is based on case studies. Her tests are fair and she gives a study guide before hand as well as a nice curve. She is very open to suggestions and does a great job presenting material that might not be the most exciting. She makes a potentially dry class much more tolerable.

First half of the lecture was usually her going through the book's powerpoints. Second half was discussion about the case study. 3 exams all multiple choice. The exams were fair. If you listen in class and go over the powerpoints, you should be fine. Participation is an extremely important part of the class so don't be afraid to contribute to discussion.

This was a decent class because HR management is my concentration, not because of Ellis. I'll admit one on one she is a decent person, but other than that she has an arrogance about her that makes her not very likable to me. One thing I thought was funny was that she consistently mentions her son as a bum that still lives at home, and often talks about her 125 year old mom. The tests are fair and reasonable, but 40% participation is a little much. She isnt the worst teacher so I would say take the class, but I think she made this quarter her last.

This class is pretty cake if you study about 2 hours for the tests. All you have to do is go to class since she takes role and participate. A lot of your grade is going to be based on the success of your group, so you better hope that your group is good. And she does offer extra credit!!! Overall a good teacher that I recommend!

Great teacher. Lectures are pretty short. Makes herself available anytime you need her. The class is a lot of work, but well worth it if you're an HR major.

Tons of work! This is a major class for HR. I've worked my butt off and only received a B grade. One advise, be on her good side and go to her office hours.

This is my third class with Ellis, and definitely not the most fun. I hate staffing, so that's part of it, but I get the feeling that she doesn't exactly have a passion for it either. Her compensation class seems to get more enthusiasm out of her. There's a small project, in comparison with the comp. project, and a selection exercise which, if you leave yourself enough time to do it, is not a big deal. Way less work than the comp. class, but the book for this class sucks. It's soo boring, but I think the book she picked for 384 was worse, so it's your call. Anyway, a mediocre class, is probably my best description. There's also a multiple choice midterm and final. Have fun!

Dr. Ellis is amazing. She is intelligent and has a lot of professional experience. The reading is not too bad and is very helpful. I think this class is essential for anyone in business. As with every professor, attending office hours is a good idea.

Dr. Ellis is one of those professors that you will be grateful for in the future. She really knows how to apply her knowledge of human resources to all the HR students and she is extremely helpful. She is scatter-brained at times, and her lectures for this class consist of powerpoints. She is quite quirky though so sometimes it won't be too hard to stay awake... anyway, the tests are based on whether you read the book and paid attention and the staffing project wasn't TOO bad, just make sure you get a good group who will all contribute. Also there are random in-class activities and she randomly takes attendance even after the break, so if I were you I would stay in class. Oh yes, go to her office hours... she's fun.

Very average class at best. She is a nice, energetic lady, but he lectures are the worst lectures I\'ve ever had in my 4 years at poly. The subject has potential to be interesting but she just reads off the powerpoints supplied by the book for 2 straight hours and stops whenever we run out of time. Group work is a bitch, make sure you ask her exactly what she wants. She will grade them super easy if you know what she expects, super hard if you don\'t. You\'ll get a decent grade but you will want to kill yourself 4 hours a week,
