I really enjoyed Lee's class. He's an approachable guy that somehow manages to present material as boring as patents and copyrights in an interesting way. There were 6 "pop quizzes" (you pretty much know when he's going to give one), a midterm & a final. His grading is fair and there isn't too much work involved other than the reading.

I thought this class was a very good D5. The curriculum is mostly about intellectual property, privacy, and related international laws. Lee presents the material very well and knows EVERYTHING about technology law. You are assigned somewhat lengthy reading assignments for each lecture from the textbook that he wrote, and the power points presented in class reflect the same material. There are 6 pop quizzes on the readings throughout the quarter, a midterm and final, a 3-5 page ethics paper, and an article presentation. The ethics essay and article presentation are both fairly easy, and besides those, there isn't much work outside of class besides reading and studying. The quizzes and tests are substantially based off of knowing the case studies presented in the textbook and are fair. Overall a good class that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in this stuff or needs a D5 from a good professor. You'll learn a lot.

Lee Burgunder is the man. Such a cool guy that really cares about his students. As someone interested in law, I found his BUS 311 class fascinating. He is probably one of my favorite professors at Cal Poly in the College of Business. Also, he is super helpful if you go to his office hours. OVerall, I recommend you take the class.

Really enjoyed Burgunder's class. It was my second or third time learning about IP law in some capacity, but he does a good job of diving into both sides of the argument on IP cases while teaching you stuff that may be relevant to your future career. Definitely passionate about the subject and cares about his students. Definitely make sure you do the course readings, his pop quizzes help keep you on top of that. Besides the midterm and the final, there's also an ethics essay and a short article presentation that can help boost your grade. Probably got a low B in the class overall, but that's because I put in fairly minimal effort. Overall, interesting class, nice guy, and an engaging professor. I'd recommend the class!

I highly recommend Burgunder for this course. The tests are straight from his lectures and the reading material. He even tells you what essay questions that will be on the tests. The only homework that you have is to read a couple articles before each class and he is a lot of fun to listen to in class, he likes to be funny and laugh. If you want a rather easy class with a fun down to earth teacher then you need to take this class.

Dr. Burgunder is definitely one of the best teachers I've had at Poly. He made the class fun, often dressing up as "guest speakers" to make class more interesting and add a bit of humor to his lectures. The class consisted of two midterms (the first one worth 20%, the second worth 30%) and a final (worth 40%--the other 10% came from "class participation", but he doesn't take role). If you go to most of the lectures, do the assigned readings, and understand how the readings tie into the class then the class is not difficult- but, I would try to keep up on the readings. I highly recommend this class- Dr. Burgunder is awesome and this is a class that I really think I learned and benefited from.

Lee is a loon. He's got "surprise guests" that'll knock your socks off and he's got some pretty interesting stories too. The lecture format is Lee talks for an hour about his PowerPoint presentation. You get a 10 minute break. Then he lectures for another hour. There's a little bit of interaction but not as much as there ought to be. The thing is that he asks questions and for whatever reason (it could've just been my classmates) he has to end up giving the answers to the students. He *tries* to get interaction, but it failed hideously for my class. Here's what you need to do. Keep up on reading - he's got 6 pop quizes throughout the quarter. Read his powerpoint slides the night before the exam. Pay attention to those issues that he rehashes like 100 times - they'll probably be essay questions. The tests (2 mid and a final) are multiple choice, true/false and two essays. Use common sense and you're set. The class was cake - but I'm an engineer so take my opinion however you like.

This was a good class. Lee made this class fun and interesting with his "guest lecturers". There is a lot of reading in this class but if you stay on top of it you should receive a good grade. The tests are multiple choice and essay. Lee will give you a pretty good hint on the essay question before the test so if you prepare for it you should do pretty well.

I took Dr. Burgunder during my first quarter as a Business major (two years ago) and I still think he is one of the best teachers in the college. He truly cares about his students, and he goes out of his way to make class fun and interesting. Keep current on the assigned readings (or be prepared to do a major cram-session prior to tests), and go to class; I promise his classes are genuinely fun...and I'm not that much of a nerd- he is just damn funny! Good luck!

The class feels like it shouldn't be that hard, and the tests certainly don't feel very hard, but for whatever reason both myself and some friends of mine recieved B's. His tests are multiple choice, with two essay questions at the end. Pay attention to the Powerpoint topics that he drills into your head, because those will be the essay questions! That is where I messed up. Do the reading, it's not hard and actually entertaining. The pop quizes aren't hard even if you just glance at the reading. He is a nice guy and always willing to answer any questions. The "surprise guests": annoying, long, boring, and not really on the tests. Leave at the break on these days!

Burgunder is a nut! "Guest speakers" are hilarious and his love of sports will occupy about 10% of class time. Really nice guy, but his tests are HARD! Do yourself a huge favor and don't listen when he says that the quizzes on the weekly articles only require a quick read; read for content because the quizzes require some detail. If you do, they are easy. Read the red book for the tests like your grade depends on it, because it does. He can put you to sleep sometimes, but other times, you will be sorry the class only lasts 2 hours. Good professor to take.

I can't understand how Lee got such a high rating on this site. I chose to take him off the above reviews, and was highly disappointed. Let me start off by saying I got an A in the class. It's an easy class just go, focus on the powerpoints, and ignore the book until test time. The first test will be HARDER than you think and you'll probably catch a B on that one because you didn't listen to me. It is okay, just show up for his quizzes, and nail the other tests. His grading scale is ambiguous anyway. But sitting through the lectures is a challenge, Lee wants to be your friend and he wants to be cool. This is fine, but it stops him from teaching. I would constantly suppress the desire to scream out "JUST TEACH!" His inane "dress up" guest speakers, the pushing of DC sports in every powerpoint, I don

I completely agree with the guy below me. One of the reasons why i took the class was because he had such a high polyrating and after taking his class i have no idea how he got it. I didn't learn anything form his lectures... they were incredibly boring and a lot of times, literally pointless. I studied pretty hard for his tests and did horrible on them due to his rigid grading system. This may just sound like a bitter evaluation because of my C grade (which by the way is the second C i have EVER gotten in college) but really, even if I got an A, the guy still sucks. He also assigns an enormous amount of reading of articles that are up to 20 years old or more that you may be pop quizzed on any given day. I wouldn't recommend this guy at all!

Lee tries his best to keep students entertained and often times classes were enjoyable due to candid discussions about numerous political topics that were necessarily restricted to business. Though I enjoyed his lectures his test and quiz questions were so misleading and difficult. This is the teacher that isn't trying to challenge his students but is just trying to trick them. There is a fine line. That said, I did horribly on the quizzes and likewise on the first of three tests and somehow ended up with a B. I guess this guy really enjoys to hand out those phantom points for a Redskins or Wizards victory. You do learn quite a bit in the class just be wary for the tests because it is not a class that you can just study for 4 days and figure everything out. I'd say it is worth a shot if you enjoy political discussion.

Lee was a good teacher in that he brings in real examples to his teachings such as case studies...and "guest lecturers"...yeah that was weird. He tried to make the class interesting and simplified things so we would all understand. That being said, realize that his tests were ridiculous. For being such a chill, calm guy his tests are totally off the wall in difficulty. I honestly don't know how to recommend studying for his tests because simply going over the notes won't be enough I think. But overall, I actually liked him because he was enthusiastic about what he was teaching which made the class not boring. Which says a lot considering a lot of the courses I've taken here.

Burgunder is literally USELESS in teaching, his materials are so scattered (online readings, and you have to find articles, and slides are useless) which makes it really difficult to study. Plus he tests on random parts of lectures and examples he randomly comes up with in class. I swear he is the most SCATTERBRAIN person you will ever meet. He gets off topic at least 3 times a class and is obsessed with the Washington Wizards. I felt like he clearly played favorites and grading on written questions were completely subjective. He also talks about himself in the 3rd person and does retarded "guest speakers" where he dresses up which are completely pointless and a waste of time. Great teacher! If you go to class, you will truely learn a ton from this class. Lee is also pretty funny at times, which is an added plus. You must do all the assigned readings in order to do well on the unannounced reading quizzes (there is usually one per week). The hw gives you easy points so make sure you do it all. Midterms and final are so-so. If arent brilliant, I would recommend going to his office hours a couple days before tests and go over all the slides with him. It will definitly help and he will give you some hints as to what will be on the test. Professor Burgunder is an outstanding individual but I felt his teaching style wasn’t worth a damn. This class consists of two midterms and a final. There are in class pop quizzes and 6 homework assignments that take time to complete. My best advice is to print out the PowerPoint notes before and write down everything he says in class. There is no book which is nice but his tests are extremely tricky. In other words you have to know your stuff inside and out to do well. I scored horrible on the exams because I just studied the notes but really you need to study the online readings and the ereserves (no lie there are so many questions on this stuff). I did read most but the questions are worded in a confusing way that even if you read you wont know the answer sometimes. Overall, go to class and study what I said. I disliked the material but Burgunder is a great guy.

Prof. Burgundes is a knowledgeable person who thinks he can teach. His lectures are based on PowerPoint slides, which do not help much when taking the tests. He makes things harder than they are by making really tricky, extra-wordy tests that even if you studied and prepared well enough for his tests, you would have a hard time just dealing with the questions themselves. He should definitely change his teaching style and stop \"bringing\" special guests to the class. If you need to take this class, take it with someone else.

Prof. Burgunder is very knowledgable, and he cares about what he teaches. For the first part of the class, the PowerPoints just provide a guideline, you really need to pay attention to what he SAYS, and the reading gives examples. For the second part, the information is more black/white, right/wrong, so the PowerPoints provide pretty much the same info as the lectures and the reading re-emphasizes the info as well (I do better with this type, so I struggled for the first part). His \"special guests\" are an entertaining way to grab your attention, and it takes guts to do that in front of anyone so don\'t give him a hard time for that. Overall, I got a lower grade in this class, but I can confidently say I learned the most!

I would recommend printing out the powerpoint slides before class so you can take notes as he goes through them because he does test on things that are not on the slides. Burgunder is definitely what i would consider a fair professor. The class consists of 2 midterms and a Final along with readings from e-reserves (which he wrote himself) and articles. Although the e-reserves and articles are time consuming, they really do help reinforce the concepts in class. They are essential if you want to get any points on quizzes, and he DOES (even though he claims he won\'t) put questions about them on the tests (usually the ones he mentions in class). And like the person below me reccomends, definitely print out the powerpoint slides beforehand and take lots of notes. Professor Burgunder is your typical Cal Poly professor. He's knowledgeable, interesting, and makes a lot of dry jokes during lecture, some of which are actually funny. Whenever he says there'll be a guest speaker, it always turns out to be just him in costume, accent and everything. He is such a great teacher. He lectures everyday for the full 2 hours, but he's actually pretty entertaining. He has slides that are very minimal so if you want good notes you have to really listen to him. He's very straightforward about whats going to be on the tests. However, these tests are really hard. 2 midterms and 1 final, all multiple choice but the way he makes the choices is really difficult. Every question has only B and C are right, none of the above are right, only 1 is right. Just stuff like that. So you really have to know the information. You don't have a book for the class and you just have to read a few articles each night in case he has a pop quiz on them. I would recommend taking Lee's class. It's very straight forward- no book needed. He presents slides to you in class and you take notes every day. He posts the slides on Blackboard for you to review. All of his tests are based off of these slides, and he tells you info you will need to know pertaining to the slides. If you go to class and take notes, you can get an easy B. Some of the lectures drag a little, but hey, what lecture class doesn't? The class consists of pop quizes that he gives on reading assignments. Keep up on your reading and you can ace them. The reading material is news articles that he assigns, you need to read about 3 articles before each class. There are two multiple choice tests, one with a short answer section, and a cumulative final. It seemed that the cumulative part of the final was all questions that you would have seen before on the previous 2 exams. There were about 3 or 4 homework assignments, all of which are very easy. He walks you through a website, tells you what to read, and then you answer 5 questions based on the website material. Overall, good class, I learned some interesting facts about government and Professor Burgunder is an easy guy to learn from.

Honestly, this class is cake. He spends a lot of time explaining things (which is a plus), but the material truly isn't difficult whatsoever. Go there, sit in class, and 1/2 pay attention. Do the readings for every class (maybe take 20-30 min) and know the slides inside and out before the test and I would be shocked if you didn't get an A. I will say you have to reallllly know the slides well though. The material is logical and straightforward, it probably takes a simple hour of hard studying before the midterm and you should walk away with an A in the course. Burgunder is a cool guy overall, very laid back and easy to talk to. He makes the relatively boring subject that is BUS 404 somewhat interesting. Lots of reading honestly its a ridiculous amount for each class period takes anywhere from a half to 2 hours and it has to be done because he has these lame pop quizzes. This class is extremely difficult to get an A in; not a lot of points to go around (about 335 i think) and probably around 80% of the grade comes from the 2 midterms and the final. The catch is his tests are ridiculous, the questions are created to make students second guess themselves. He claims any student can get an A on any test buy studying his powerpoints that he puts on PolyLearn for an hour, that's just not true. His powerpoints are very dumbed down and don't fully explain the material enough to understand it they way Burgunder tests. Learned a decent amount from his class, but given the opportunity would have registered elsewhere.

Mr. Burgunder is a cool guy and sincerely cares about what you learn in his class. He is very informative during his lectures but his lecture slides only highlight the topics that you need to know. The key take away from the class is to know and understand the concepts he is teaching. The class itself is very time demanding as it requires about 2 hours of reading per class lecture and he gives out five challenging random 3 questions pop quizzes during the quarter. He also gives out a few homework assignments which require about an hour or less of your time. The last major assignment is the ethics paper which is 3-6 pages double-spaced; nothing to demanding. The most difficult part of the class is his exams; to get an A you need to know and understand the concepts/topics on his slides. Other than that, Lee Burgunder is a great instructor and varying on how well his Washington DC teams are doing he may feel inclined to give some extra points. If you sincerely want to learn about how businesses deal with government regulation and how government proposes resolutions to current dilemmas then you ought to take Mr.Burgunder for BUS 404.

Professor Burgunder is awesome! He makes this class fun and interesting even with the topics being quite dry. For the tests, make sure you study the slides A LOT. But he's fair and helpful and just an overall cool guy!

I know, I know, I got a C. I put that there to be as transparent as possible so that you can make your own judgment on what I say. I was excited to register for this class. I thought I would really enjoy 404 because of my interests across business and government. The thing is though, I was motivated enough by Lee to write my first review. I couldn't pay attention in this class. I am going to have to respectfully disagree with the majority of these review and say that the material could not have been presented in a drier fashion, and that I could not have been more bored. Regarding his tests, studying for them is a challenge because the slides are quite vague and his tests rather detailed. More than anything, though, I was surprised at how consistently I could dislike each lecture simply due to his style of teaching which is very slow and very dry. But then again, I suppose the right person can suck the life out of anything. Make your own call though, putting my review against the majority of others; but I felt a need to bring in a perspective from the other side. Either way, you will remember Lee as a good man.

Tries to connect with students but fails horribly. Material is all thrown up on to powerpoint slides but the tests are painful even if you study the slides for days. TONS of reading, mainly long boring articles. Surprise quizzes on said reading which lowkey are a lot of points. Overall the class was a bore, tests suck, and he is one of the worst teachers in OCOB.

Really awesome professor. Don't know what's with all these people ripping on him. His pop quizzes are really easy, like seriously, all you have to do is read the articles he gives you. It's like 1 hour MAX of work. Not to mention reading the articles -> you apply it to the material being lectured on -> you learn the concepts. Hey.... learning's so hard. The exams are a bit more difficult because Burgunder really wants you to know the concepts (remember the bit on reading the material before going to class?), so you really need to understand the material well. But, if you pay attention in class to the examples and apply the reading to the material being lectured on, it's not too bad. He's also really available in office hours, so if you have any trouble you can easily go find him. In terms of lectures being dry, it all depends on the person. But then again, it's hard to take people who complain seriously when lots of people in class are looking at their phones the whole time. Try using your brain in a positive manner for a few minutes and you'll find his lectures to be quite interesting. I would recommend anyone taking 404 with Burgunder.

Burgunder is a great professor! His powerpoints are very easy to follow, and he dumbs down the material so anyone can understand it. He tells you exactly what to expect on the tests, so just make sure you study the slides for the midterms and final. The reading is interesting, and as long as you do it, you should ace the pop-quizzes. Overall he is a funny guy, and his lectures are very interesting. Not sure what some of these other ratings are about. Honestly, if you can't pull an A in this class, you are not cut out to be a college student.

Do not be fooled the first day, he is crazy in an entertaining way. He will get directly in students faces for examples, he will constantly do impressions, and he will smile as he swears at you. You will get called on and put on the spot. But he knows what he is talking about. Go to office hours, he will be more than willing to help and will know you name afterwards. His slides are directly everything you need to know. He reviews material in class.

I love Professor Burgunder! He made this class super interesting and overall it was pretty easy to get an A. There's no required textbook and all of the readings are online. As long as you do the readings and pay attention in class you should be able to get an A!

On paper, this will look like the most boring course on your schedule. However, his lecture style is equal parts informative, interesting, and hilarious. He will also weave current events into the day's lecture, which keeps it fresh. The quizzes and exams come directly from his lectures, slides, and readings. There are no ugly surprises. If you do what you're supposed to do, there is no reason you should not get an A in this class. Also, no dreaded team projects. Warning: don't try to wing the exams just because they are for the most part multiple choice. He is a master at crafting some very tricky multiple choice questions. You need a good understanding of the material.

This class requires so much more additional effort outside of class compared to other classes. There is SO much reading and every test question only has 2 options and then theres always an "all of the above" or "none of the above" to make you question every single decision you make. This class is frustrating because it is on simple material but forces you to remember small details of cases and stories that he covers in class and in the reading. He also gives pop-quizzes so you can't miss class.

No doubt that this class is so hard. Mr. Lee is a good and a very knowledgeable instructor. However, as a minority I suffered a lot and found myself lost in his class. He assigns so much reading beyond the average student capacity, for each class you have to read and grasp 4-5 articles with average 1000 words each + 5-10 pages from different pdfs. Very overwhelming, dry, and hard material at times to understand. English is my third language and had really struggled to only get the general point of most of his articles. His midterms are very hard and super tricky. Honestly, I still don't know the purpose of keep tricking the students! His midterms contain specific details from the reading and you are cooked if you don't know them. Moreover, the student needs to understand the concepts very deeply and apply them to these specific cases and scenarios. ~85% of the grade is 2 midterms (75 +90 points) + 105 point for the final + 30 points for the paper+ 5 points for draft+20 points for pop quizzes+5 points for participation. A nice and a good instructor but not for everybody, very tough grader! Maybe only if you have a prior knowledge of his topics. Good luck!

I personally liked the way Burgunder taught because he actually taught the material without reading off powerpoints like 99% of the other professors I've had. He provides a lot of examples when lecturing that are easy to remember and you don't have to read a damn textbook to learn the material. He just assigns readings on articles from NY Times and Wall Street Journal and although he assigns a lot to read they're easy to understand and are interesting. As far as tests, they're very frustrating because almost every question has the choices of "none of the above" & "a & b only but not c" that make you second guess yourself. He also claims that they will be based on very general material that he taught in class but instead are very specific. I had gotten C's on both midterms because I just studied the powerpoints and notes. So I'd advise to re read the articles even though it's kind of a lot it'll be worth it. Also take good notes on the examples he provides in class to help you through studying. I had a 75% in the class before the final, average was an 81% and ended up with a B-. Idk how because I swore I was going to end up with a C lol but I must've done good on the final because I made sure to study a lot for it. There's 5 random pop quizzes on the readings that are easy if you read and he drops the lowest one. There's a 5-6 page paper that you can do by yourself or with a partner that he was such a grammar nazi on. Me & my partner got a C on it because he marked us off on grammar instead of content. Frustrating but he said the average grade on them was a B-. Class is out of 335 points so a little easy to lose points and get a lower grade than expected but overall a good lecturer.

Excellent prof. Best I've taken in the MBA program so far. Has a relaxed, fun, hands-on approach that every prof should model from. Why do profs go out of their way to be so boring sometimes? If we're bored they're bored too. Lee Burgunder is a strong exception!! He's great at weaving in current events into his lectures that students, and he keeps up with technology and what students are interested in. A model prof for the other lazy profs that are stagnant and never adapt.

My favorite professor and favorite class of my entire Cal Poly experience. He didn't bring in "guest speakers" for our class and I blame and curse all of you who criticized him for it. What could have easily been a very boring subject ended up being my best class simply because of the way he presented it. He obviously knows and loves his field, and that passion comes through, even if in a dorky way. Yeah, he wrote the book, but it helps a ton cause whatever you miss in lecture you will read anyway, so it drives the point home without any question as to what is important to him that you learn. And, his jokes are funny precisely because they are so lame! If you're too cool to appreciate that, then I hope we never meet.
