This class was very dry. I would simply work on the assignments during class, as he would sit there and play video clips he had recorded of himself on the computer. So I could watch them at home if I needed help with the assignments later. However, we had four tests, no final, and we got to drop our lowest score. He\'d give us a study guide and tell us what documents to study, so it was an easy A. Our group project, I ended up doing all on my own because it was much easier to do than in a group setting. Overall not a bad class, I just feel like I didn\'t get anything out of it.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. Won't learn a damn thing and there is a possible chance of death by boredom. How is this guy a college professor? Avoid.

Dr. Griggs is a very fair, nice man. The homework load is very light. He makes sure you know how to do the homework before it's due and if he hasn't gone over it, he moves the due date. The tests are easy if you follow his study guide. He is available if you need help or have a problem. He did the best he could trying to teach a class where all but three people were on the internet or playing games not listening to a word he was saying and then complain that he does a lousy job. Was he rude or mean to these people? NO! Hint: PAY ATTENTION AND YOU WILL LEARN! Easy class - nice guy.

All you computer nerds need to leave Griggs alone. He is a fair teacher and has a rather light homework load. Some of you all comment on how he knows "next to nothing about this or that" but the man has a PhD in Computer Science while all you guys are still getting undergrad degrees. I am sure that you all have been computer geeks for a while but you still are in no position to judge. You all should be worshiping him as a leader, not chastising him. Remember what Yoda from star trek says, " he who live in a glass house should not go to the bathroom during the day." Live long and prosper you sackasses!!!!

I have to agree with the last review. Griggs is so cool that I want to crap my pants!! The only reason that I got a D (D+ actually) is cause I showed up to class still drunk after partying all night with your mom. One guy whines that "This jackass knows next to nothing about software development." I can gaurentee you that this guy is still a virgin. Another one of your trekie peers notes that "[Griggs]strolls in twenty minutes late to class and lectures on material that you can just read from the powerpoints." Tragic. Not only is Griggs the coolest thing since lesbianism (the hot "movie" kind), but he has this TA that is quite a looker. Take him if you want an easy D or if you need something to do for two hours, twice a week

The first time I saw Griggs with his Diet Vanilla Coke, I thought, "Wow, I didn't know people actually drank that stuff." It's like that Pepsi Twist stuff, you hear about it, but have you ever actually seen anyone consume that labia extract? "We're not the Osbournes, we're the Osmonds!" Anyways, anyone who is knocking Griggs needs to quit playing Solitaire and wake up. Now obviously Griggs' lecture on firewalls cannot compare to such fine websites such as Mulletts.com or addictinggames.com, but whose can? If you petafiles don't pay attention and are browsing soft-core porn, how can you learn? Thankfully Griggs has thought this out and is extremely helpful in his office hours. Ask him a question like, "what is a querey" (you have to say querey out loud in a British accent cause it sounds cool) 4 weeks after he went over queries and he will patiently let you know what's shakin. Your homework 3 weeks late? No sweat! Tell Griggs you're perfecting it and he'll let it slide. If you don't understand anything during the lecture because you were looking at those mulletts and laughing out loud, ask the chick next to you for help. My buddy spontaneously said to this girl next to him that "this class is so boring, wanna go make out in the bathroom?" And although she chuckled at the time, a few weeks later they ran into each other at a party and ended up making out in a bathroom - no fucking joke. He's a 21-year old virgin and busted one in his pants, but thats besides the point. Long story longer, her boyfriend dumped her when he found out. All that because of Griggs boring-ass lectures. So turn something negative and make it a positive. Oh, the tests are easy too. Griggs is a funny guy if you talk to him outside of computer shit. Take him and ignore all these other limp-wristed computer nerds.

I must admit that I was scared to take Griggs after reading all the bad evaluations about him. But honestly, I have no idea why he has such bad ratings. First of all, he makes the class a breeze. I didn't have to try all that hard to get an A. People in other Bus 391 classes had like 5-7 projects just to cover Excel. In Griggs classs, you have 7 projects total! Not to mention they are a piece of cake. Everything is layed out exactly how you should do the project in the book. However, if you are not fucking around in class too much and actually pay attention, Griggs will explain exactly how you do everything and you will rarely have to even look at the book. He is always willing to explain things and is just a really nice guy. Take his class if you want an easy A, and you actually do learn some new stuff about Excel and Access and Frontpage.

Griggs is a really nice guy. He wants you to learn about the subject, and he is truly interested in it. I think it's a boring subject, but he does a good job at presenting it. Class seems a little long sometimes. Just go to class and pay good attention and you will do fine on the two quizzes. He doesn't really grade the project and everyone gets full credit. I would reccoment taking this class- it's pretty easy.

This guy is bizarre...basically this is how the class breaks down. You facebook or do WHATEVER you want on the internet for two hours, with that said you can easily pull off a B doing that all the time. If you want a A, just pay attention a little every day, open the book here and there. He gives you study guides for the tests- definitely do them if you want to pass the class. That is how I actually did okay on the tests. Really easy for a class that could be potentially really tough. If you want to see the messiest office in the world- check his out...pretty funny!

I liked Griggs. He is pretty straight forward and no BS. Make sure if you take him that you treat the "quizes" as tests and not quizes, otherwise you will screw your grade for the class.

class was ridiculous. so easy. he tried out this system of giving 7 online quizes instead of any tests. everyone who was smart just cheated and got A's on every quiz. the hw, presentation, and website are super easy too. you work in groups of 4 so sit with computer knowledgable people. there was no final. take griggs! only knock is that hes boring but who cares. easy A

Yeah. Griggs. Here is how each class will go: He shows up 15 minutes late. It's a quiz day, so he will tell you that he is giving you 15 minutes to study. 30 minutes later he returns to the room. After the quiz, he lectures a little. I'd like to tell you about the lectures, but I was too busy playing online games. Everyone does something other than listening to the lecture. Then at the end of class, one table of people gives a presentation on a random magazine article. My group made the powerpoint in class the day we were presenting, even though we were given the article a month earlier. He's going to interrupt the presentation with techno-babble randomness anyways. Be careful on the quizzes, though - they are worth 10% of your grade each.

This class was HORRIBLE! He failed miserably at being a good teacher. The subject matter really isn't that hard, but half of the time I was sitting there waiting for him to show other students 50 times how to use simple equations in Excel. His quizzes started off really easy and then all of the sudden he started asking really stupid trivial questions to make sure you were reading the whole chapter instead of just studying the key terms. Homework was simple unless you're computer illiterate which it unfortunately seems like 75% of people are. Ugh... just don't take him. Take Barry Floyd.

Griggs makes this class unbelievably hard to pay attention in. So bring your cell phone or topics to chat about on Facebook. The quizzes aren't too bad if you study...but you do need to study. The information is found equally in the chapters and in powerpoints, so use both. He shows you exactly how to do the homeworks, so really pay attention when he's doing that. Otherwise, this class is what Facebook is made for. He's also always at least 5 minutes late, so don't rush. The chapters are short, so do yourself a favor and take 20 minutes and read them. It won't hurt.

Professor Griggs is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. In class he would go over PowerPoints, but most of the time would just say, "You can read this later." He ended up teaching us barely anything. Most of the time he would just get sidetracked and start talking about random things that had nothing to do with what we were learning about. For the Greenlight Program we took 4 tests, but only 3 counted and there was no final or midterm. His tests have some trick questions in them and some of the questions are poorly worded. Also, halfway through the class he'll say, "I'm going to take a break right now" and will just leave the classroom. Stay away from him if possible.

Ken Griggs was the most boring teacher ever. Each student gets their own computer, and spends their time playing games and on Facebook as opposed to listening to him because he speaks so monotone and is incredibly uninteresting. All he does is read power points to you for two hours until class is over, which he posts online. You wouldn't have to go to class, but the catch is he makes you log in everyday on your computer and fill out attendance, so you really can't get out of going. And you better read every page of your textbook and every power point or you don't really have a chance.

Boring. BUT super easy and super knowledgeable. He\'s very helpful and all the material we learn in the class can be applied for later in life. The tests aren\'t cumulative (well technically they\'re just quizzes) and there is no final. Take this class with friends b/c if not you\'ll just be the loner kid always on the internet.

ya hes boring, but its an easy A or A- if u do the work. u sit there on facebook for 2 hours and look up every once in a while. he will help you with absolutely anything. 4 quizzes, one is dropped, random easy hw problems using excel, access and frontpage, and the final is a little website you and your group makes but its no big deal and is worth only 8% of ur grade (one of my team members pretty much did the whole thing by hersekf. study his little study guide before the quizzes and u will get the gist of the quiz, but some questions are pretty random, but not tricky. he might have some bad reviews but theres no reason not to take good ol kenneth. if you can, try to take the class with friends and u might have more fun.

Boring class, but not too hard. He rambles about random things and definitely knows his stuff. Easy homeworks, four tests and a project. Only problem was that he NEVER lectured on stuff from the books, so it\'s up to you to read the book and powerpoints. He usually opened the powerpoint and said \"you can read this later.\"

Griggs is an ok professor for this course. You have a total of 4 quizzes (they\'re really midterms) and a final project. Class is simple if you are good with Access, Excel, and Frontpage. The only thing is that he drags on for the whole 2 hours of the class and sometimes uses pre-recorded videos of himself to teach the class. Nevertheless, it is a useful class and you can learn a lot if you can stand paying attention to him. Overall, an ok professor but then again you cannot do any better since I heard the rest of the professors that teach this class are worse.

Overall Griggs was an alright teacher. His teaching style is very hard to get used to at first because all his lectures have no specific structure to them. His lectures are all over the place and he doesn\'t really lecture over the chapters, which is what over half the quizzes/midterms are on. Students are left to read and learn the material in the book on their own. The lectures are boring and it is difficult to stayed focused. There are 4 quizzes/midterms and the lowest grade is dropped. There is a group project due at the end of the quarter as well. The homework assignments aren\'t too bad since his lectures usually cater to them. I wouldn\'t recommend Griggs as my first choice for this class.

I'm in this class right now. I spend every class on facebook or stumbling. right in front of griggs. we ask... "how do you do this?" griggs response: you just do it. cool.

The last comment pretty much explains the whole class. He comes to class late, we take easy group quizzes, talks about a powerpoint that we will "read later", and ... facebook. If you want an easy A take this class, if you want to learn something... dont. :)

Im still enrolled in this class (hence no grade), but I wanted to clear some things up from the comments. The class is easy because everyone sits on facebook and then when its time do work on something you hear "Huh? What are we doing?" and so griggs has to explain everything 10 times. This class is very easy. But the blame shouldn't be on griggs for the lack of material covered.

This class will teach you a few relevant things when using access or excel. Honestly, two classes are wasted on excel basics. Also, why in the world would anyone still design a website using microsoft frontpage 2003? It's such a pointless program and offers little in the way of functionality or design. The final project is ridiculous because the data and programs are really available only in the classroom making it hard to find a time to actually work on it. It's true that you can slack off in class, and just play solitaire or do assignments early, but it doesn't benefit you much. Don't buy the textbook. You hardly need it after looking at the powerpoints for test info, plus you can find a pdf version if you search online.

Griggs sucks at teaching. End of story doesn't really care at all about the class just likes getting to work on computers for a living I think. Didn't put in that much effort at all. Only thing is study for the Quizzes and youll do fine.

Griggs is just not a good teacher/professor at all. It was one of the most disorganized irrelevant classes I have ever taken. It pains me that he is a professor at Cal Poly teaching this class because I feel like really getting a handle on the programs during the course would turn out to be really useful. Not so with Griggs. He walks into class late with pretty much no plan on what the day is going to be. He'll ramble about whatever and then maybe tell you to open up an exercise which he'll speed through. His midterms (he calls them quizzes) are based on the text readings, which he never speaks about in class. Rather, he tells you the check some stupid videos he made online that are just powerpoint presentations with voice overs. Honestly, he is the the largest example of a lazy professor unwilling to try and give effort to get his students to learn. Now all that said, I wouldn't necessarily recommend not taking him, just because 391 is such an incredibly hard class to get. Bite the bullet, hate him for a quarter, miss and leave early some classes, don't learn anything, be confused about what the expectations are, but leave with an A or a B because the quizzes, simply put, aren't very difficult and are basically definition based.

Griggs is the worst teacher I have ever had. In fact, he shouldn't even be allowed to be called a teacher because he has not taught me anything. He is late to class every day. Never has the classes attention, speaks in a low monotone voice and goes over his useless powerpoints. He doesn't use PolyLearn, he uses he own jumbled mess of a website which has numerous disorganized links that are supposed to be helpful but are far from it. This class could be useful but has been a complete waste of my time. His tests are ridiculously hard. He expects us to perform tasks that he either went over one time and then proceeded to leave the room to "get water" for 25 minutes or he never went over at all. I cant believe I pay the money I do each quarter to be disappointed by lazy teachers like Griggs.

Professor Griggs is the worst teacher you will ever have. It's probably more beneficial for you to sign in to his attendance link on the computer, and then leave during the break. His lectures are disorganized, never planned, and you'll probably here "You can watch my video later on it" about a dozen times when he speeds through the ppt slides and computer work. If you miss one step, you'll probably be lost for the rest of the class so make sure to sit in a good computer group. The videos are helpful so definitely watch those to know how to do the homework. The tests are all definition based, but don't expect to learn anything. If you want an easy A, this is the class for you, but you definitely will be teaching yourself how to do everything.

While Griggs is a super nice guy, this class was extremely unproductive and boring. I attended every class and can say with complete honesty that I learned next to nothing. Griggs is late to class most days, and never seems to have a planned schedule for the day. He -sometimes- uses powerpoint slides to go over concepts, but goes through them in a matter of minutes without actually explaining anything, and instead just tells us to "look at his video about it online". When doing class activities in either access or excel, it is difficult to even know what to do because he doesn't seem to have a clue what he is doing. The majority of the class just sits on their computers surfing the web. Bottom line, this class is a waste of time and I really don't even see why it is a requirement. It's disappointing that I paid to sit through a class with a professor that didn't teach me anything.

Don't waste your time (or money). I would be curious to see how the hell Griggs even got hired. Unclear, inattentive, and unprofessional.

Wow, what a terrible teacher. We honestly could have learned everything he taught in the quarter in four hours. He clearly hasn't left the 90's with his teaching or his technology. Don't go to his office hours unless you want to suffer a heart attack from the disaster that is his office.

Griggs probably knows a lot about data modeling, but teaching...he is terrible! He basically records his lectures and puts it on you to download them from his website and listen. During lectures where he's actually speaking live (usually when the class is thoroughly confused), he does not appear confident with the answers. One student makes a suggestion and he responds, "Well, that's probably right. Let me think about that one tonite and I will get back to you next time." That pretty much screws us since the midterms and final come around faster than he can "think about the answer." If you want to ask a question during class, make sure you sit in the front row...he ignores everyone else. BUS393 was "team taught" by McQuaid and him, but it felt like 2 teachers battling over what to teach. They had problems communicating with each other and their lectures didn't seem to relate to the other topics. The entire class consisted of "Griggs' Part" and "McQuaid's Part". We had to bring 2 separate scantrons for the exams because they could not combine their parts together, even though they only had 20 questions each. Great teamwork there! If you want to learn about database applications and SQL, I suggest taking CPE365/CPE366. It's heavy work, but you'll learn A LOT more...and the professors actually know what they're doing.

Griggs has the uncanny ability to confuse everyone in his class by going off on tangents that are supposed to have something to do with the topic, but do they? No. He himself is also frequently confused by his own students. Many MIS students are expereinced from internships, prior classes, or independent knowledge and when they ask him a question, he seems unsure of his ability to answer correctly. Frequently when he is asked questions in class, he is unclear and sometimes runs around the question. Does he know? The world may never find out...

Dr. Griggs was one of the worst teachers I've ever had at Cal Poly. I'm a fairly technically savvy person with a lot of professional experience with computers, but I swear, during his lecture it's like Dr. Griggs is speaking another language sometimes. If any of you have ever seen the Saturday Night Live skit with Nick Burns "Your Company's Computer Guy" you should have a good idea of what to expect from Dr. Griggs (only it's not at all funny). He simply has no idea how to communicate to other people. I have no doubt in my mind that Dr. Griggs has an uncanny understanding of the MIS principles he's trying to teach us, but he simply has no clue how to teach. I've never been more frustrated in a class and that includes taking 342 from Dr. Gorman! I can honestly say the bus 393/394 series has only made me want to stop taking MIS classes altogether. If I hadn't taken so many prerequisite courses already I would have dropped it in a heartbeat. If MIS is really your thing, and you like listening to jokes about Pentium processors and outdated web-browsers, this class is right up your ally. If you're normal... take something else because you'll hate this stuff.

Dr. Griggs is a useless teacher for this class. He has never been in his office during his hours and if you are lucky to see him, you will never get any help on what the problem you have on your project. This is the worse class I have ever had in Cal Poly.

Here's the deal with Dr. Griggs, Very intelligent man who definitely knows some valuable stuff about Information systems and corporate IT. However the combination of the Business Departments budget (or lack of) and Dr. Griggs organization (or lack of) made this class a complete let down. It was evident that the team teaching w/McQuaid was not working..Not only were the students confused about how the two complimented each other..but it was clear that the two teachers didn't really know what was going on most of the time. As for Dr. Griggs curriculum, he outlines skills that are very important in industry. As boring as process modeling, and database normalization may seem during lecture, understanding these concepts may have been the difference in deciding if you're were of the 5 MIS majors who actually got a job after graduating this year.

Going to class is an abolute waste of time. He strolls in twenty minutes late to class and lectures on material that you can just read from the powerpoints. The textbook is useless. You don't learn anything but he's a pretty nice guy. His exams are pretty difficult.

Dr. Griggs takes an easy subject and makes it complicated and difficult by explaining it 15 times over. The students in this class get so bored listening to the constant repetition that they are all distracted and day dreaming about other things. He sets a course schedule at the beginning of the quarter, but doesnt follow it! During week four, we were still going over the power point scheduled for the first day. The best way to pass this class is to read the book on your own and try not to fall asleep in class. If you dont learn well by just reading the book, you are out of luck because Griggs wont ever get through all the material.

A lot of students bitch and moan about the class because they aren't learning anything. This is because half the class surfs the internet instead of paying attention in class. Griggs often wanders off topic like a retarded kid at the circus, but his tangents are often interesting if you actually pay attention. The work load is light for an upper division class but I still learned a lot. I hate all these nerds with sticks up their ass that complain about the the class. Get out of Business and be a Computer Science major. Griggs is a cool and helpful professor and I would recommend him especially if you don't wanna have to bust your balls like a monkey in a sweatshop.

Students surf the net because they are unable to learn and/or pay attention to his tedious/repetitive lectures. The entire quarter can be covered with two good lectures. Please don't insult business students as they are just adapt to learning as any other major. I'm happy you learned "a lot." Just keep in mind that you're a minority, and perhaps you're the one that needs a "stick up the ass" to catch up with the rest of us. By taking this class (like you have a choice), you will come out unprepared without the basic foundation for systems development or modeling that is required by most future employers. College is about preparing for employment and self-enrichment, and not to do "minimal" work. Perhaps you should reconsider your understanding of college and remain here a few more years "5th year senior" ;)

Many students who graduate from the IS concentration end up doing some sort of modeling, and it's unfortuante that this class does not give us enough structured feedback to really develop the necessary skills to succeed. I found it rather pointless to be submitting our homework which involved modeling, only to never get HIS feedback on it, leaving us with no idea if what we were doing was correct or not. He had a TA grade it, however if he has the ultimate say in our grade on the final project (which consists of a lot of modeling) I would like to have his feedback throughout the quarter so that I could deliver a solid project in the end. Additionally, his lectures are very repetitive and are very loosely tied to what you will be tested on. The book is your best preparation for the one test you will have (although he'll probably schedule 2 and cancel 1). Additionally, he cancelled the last midterm which made it difficult for those who did not do too well on the first midterm (which he even admitted had a few ambiguous answer for which he didn't adequately adjust for) to make up. The final project is also heavily weighted, however whenever we asked questions about it in class he would say things such as, "well i'm being vague becuase you may have vague clients," however he was not our client, our client was the company contact we were working with. Having vauge leadership only leads to unsuccessful projects. This class has a lot of potential, however it lacks structure. I think if he showed more commitment by focusing lectures we could gain a lot more.

Avoid at all costs. His grades are messed up, and I've heard from others that he'll complain that you're badgering him if you go to talk about grades. Just not very smart overall.

All right, by no means is Griggs a bad person or anything, but the lone fact that he rambles on about whatever the hell he wants in class is a great indicator that he is a horrible professor. Take for example the first few days of class. Oh what's this, we get to learn some data modeling techniques? Perhaps some database stuff? NO. We learned about the time value of money. That's right, the very first thing you learn in BUS342. Then, throughout the course, he would talk about whatever interests him, such as recessions, multi-touch screens, credit card numbers... you know what, I didn't even bother to listen to the fool. Whenever he talks about something, he goes on at least half an hour about it which can be done in 2 minutes. Then almost the entire class just unplugs the robotel system (look for a black box under the table and pull the power cord) and plays games. Following that, he disappears for 30 minutes and that's about it. Here's the great part though, half the shit he talks about isn't on the "quiz" he gives out, and the other half is only 10% of the actual material. Don't expect him to teach you anything in this class. Read the powerpoint slides, read the book, and don't even bother going to class. If you thought Wild was bad, watch out.

"I'm going to leave for 25 minutes to do something" This is what griggs says everyday. He basically leaves you to do an inclass assignment that he didn't even show you what/how to do it. Worst teacher in the OCOB by far.

griggs is a pretty awful teacher. leaves for literally 30 minutes almost every day right after assigning us class work that most people have questions about. I wish that cal poly had more intelligent IS teachers, but overall this class wasn't that hard. A Boring group project just like every other IS class, 2 quizzes, no final, and 3 homeworks

"Teacher" in the loosest definition. He doesn't even teach. Every class he goes through the PowerPoint slides saying "you can all read this later", so at the end of the class I always wondered why I even went to class since everything is self-taught anyway. And the entire quarter you learn nothing but data-flow diagrams. That's it for 10 weeks. And the final project is a joke. It's actually a step down from 393 where the project incorporated everything with customer information, sales, etc...and obviously it had to work. Here in 394 your project didn't even have to work. So my partner and I did the final project in one weekend. This class is a joke and it's a shame because all IS people have to take it, wasting all our time. On a positive note, you can get lots of web surfing and game playing done in that class.

The fact that Griggs is employed (tenured) and receiving a high salary should be considered a crime. This guy is literally stealing money from you, your parents, and taxpayers. Why? Let's go over a few reasons: 1) He's awful at "teaching"; he is unable to engage his students in any way and convey whatever knowledge he might actually have. His exams don't actually test your knowledge in any way, just your ability to memorize definitions (that come directly from his PowerPoints). 2) He is incredibly unhelpful. He NEVER responds to emails (I also have him for Senior Project). He just makes jokes or rambles on about nothing if you talk to him in office hours - if he is even there. 3) His website is disorganized and he is lazy. He doesn't grade anything; he has a TA to grade the easiest assignments. He has probably over 100 links on his website; the only ones I ever opened were the exam study guide and project guidelines. 4) The project is complete bullshit. He was lazy and did no actual work throughout the quarter, so I was wasting my time with the project. Our educational system is continuing to decline, and people like Ken Griggs are what is contributing to its downfall. Fuck the whole concept of a tenured professor - this guy sucks, he is incompetent and should be fired. There's a reason I've heard other IS professors crack a joke about the guy. I'm sorry you're required to take 394 with Griggs - but you really don't need to waste too much time on it, just thousands of dollars.

It really sucks that Griggs is the only professor available for this class. I'm not going to reiterate what everyone here has already said, but Griggs is simply a disorganized and overall terrible instructor. Honestly, the IS department as a whole at Cal Poly is very hit or miss. Barry and Kevin are exceptional instructors, and are great assets to the department. Girggs and McQuaid however are useless and their classes are simply a waste of time. I'm not sure how Griggs is still an employee of the university...

Griggs takes a class that could potentially be very useful to students and turns it into a complete, utter waste of time. Recycling PPT slides with no real applications is a disservice to students hoping to enter the workforce well-versed in today's technology. It's a shame that this class is required for IS students. Nice guy, but extremely unorganized and a terrible professor.

What a slick professor. Going into this class is like going into a time machine and being brought back into the 90's. So much for learning new technology...

Here we are at the end of week 8 learning what IP and MAC addresses are...

Everyone says Griggs is incompetent. I could see where they're coming from, but I disagree. Griggs is very cut and dry, but if you like straightforward classes, I recommend him. He shaped up a lot and he never left class randomly, contrary to most of the previous reviews. I did well because I looked at his powerpoints, took down notes that he wrote on the board (he will use test questions for definitions he writes on the board NOT in powerpoints) and his projects and homeworks were graded by a TA so ask the TA for feedback on those assignments. He even had an interesting guest speaker talk about Salesforce.com and had us create accounts and play around with it so that was fun. Easy class, very easy B, but you have to work a little harder on the projects to get the A.

Griggs is the worst "professor" I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing at Cal Poly. I could not tell you a single thing that I learned in this class, and I honestly feel like Cal Poly is stealing money and time from me by forcing IS majors to take this class. Griggs has a TA grade all of the homework assignments, and we never received any feedback on our assignments other than a letter grade. This makes it difficult to improve on future assignments because they are all the.same.fucking.thing. Literally, every homework assignment except for one was making data flow diagrams. I got a B in this class with the least amount of effort possible, because I refused to put forth any more time and energy into such a useless class. It is honestly a travesty that this man gets paid so much to stand in front of a class and ramble on about completely irrelevant information while everyone in class just browses the internet. He even realizes this at this point and just doesn't care, most likely because he realizes he has nothing useful to teach us regardless.

Why and how could you hate this guy? The material pushes towards IT more than 401 should be I didn't mind. Class consists of a series of cases to study. Read the cases (not long) and read the terms and summaries of each chapter. If you do this, 401 is a snap.

Griggs is a very nice person. The class consists on case studies, weekly quizes, and a term paper. This class is basically a cap stone so it's very straight forward and easy.

The class is easy, if you read the cases and the chapters you will ace the class. Sometimes his quiz questions where confusing, just go by common sense. Griggs is approachable and easy to talk to.

Fine teacher, but a little dry in the presentation. I wouldnt suggest having her at 8:00 in the morning, might be difficult staying awake.

This jackass knows next to nothing about software development. If you're a business major, you probably think he's smart and that his lectures are useful. If however, you're a self-respecting computer science major, you'll recognize him and his lectures as a joke. The great thing is, you only have to go class twice because he only has two, mulitple choice quizzes (read midterms), which btw are raught with technical errors, and no final. All of his lecture notes are on the internet in the form of a list of links so there's absoletly no reason to watch him drone on about how great Microsft is while all of his students busily scour the internet for softcore porn. If you're a business major, this class might be too much for you, and this moron won't teach you anything useful. If you're a CSC major, by all means take this cake elective.

I can't believe how ridiculous people are. He doesn't make the material in this course overly difficult at all. Though he was fast at times, he conveyed the material in an appropriate manner (and repetitively!!), and you do learn a lot if you really want to. It's funny that so many people don't pay attention in class and then bitch about Griggs being a crappy teacher later. Take responsibility for your own learning! Your employer won't be holding your hand, that is, if you do find a job.

He is the coolest teacher ever!!!!! ^ _ ^

I may not have always agreed with Grigg's teaching style and believe me, I have had my share of frustration over it. But looking back, I can honestly say his class is the ONLY business class that has helped me with my career. And it has taken me a long time to actually admit that.

The best MIS course I've taken at Cal Poly. Period. If you are an MIS concentration, take this elective if you can get it. .NET is cutting edge stuff, and I never even knew I could make an e-commerce page with session cookies and a shopping cart. If you're really interested in technology and the web, this class will be a fun relief from the other crap like finance and government. Good class, good teacher, he cares about the students and the material, take this class.

Dr. Griggs is the best teacher!! He honestly cares about his students. His class has a pretty laid back atmosphere... I've learned a lot. I would definitely take another course from him again. He's the best!!!!!!!!

This class had a lot of potential, however, Dr. Griggs uses an ineffective style of teaching. He takes 2 hours to cover 15-20min of material. Most of class is spent copying and pasting code from his webpage (while he takes a break, students don't get one). Seriously, we are trying to learn a new programming interface, people are already familiar with Control-C Control-P. We took our only quiz during week nine. It was originally scheduled for week 4 or 5. Dr. Griggs doesn't cover much of the material that the book discusses. In fact, I don't think anyone bothered to even open the book all quarter. ASP.Net is very powerful, but you are left to learn most of it on your own. I understand it is only his second quarter teaching the class, but I would expect him to teach the class more effectively. Oh and one last gripe, we took the multiple choice quiz 12 days ago and he still has not graded them and there are no more class meetings. I hope he actually grades the quiz and does not just randomly assign grades (I would't put it past him).

This guys' awful. I hate Griggs.

Poor guy, he's so nice and will talk to you straight and make all sorts of concessions, but the class itself is very glossy. I mean we learned .Net which is super-interesting and important, but the rate of information exchange was very low. This class is not too demanding so take it with a heavy load.

Ken Griggs is a classic example of why drugs are bad, mmkay?
