This guy does not want to teach. It becomes obvious when he cancels class at least once a week, or just doesn't bother showing up. All the papers he assigned were short (500-600 words!!), a journal was kept and written in almost every class, and a few easy projects were assigned such as creating a persuasive advertisement. It wasn't a large workload at all, but he was a harsh grader with essays. He's a nice guy with a sense of humor, but seems as if he wants to be off by himself reading or something.

Ken Brown is the easiest teacher and this class is an automatic A if you show up. There is no book, all you do is watch movies in class all day. You have 3 easy assignments and a final which he tells you what to know. Half of the scheduled classes will be cancelled. Attendance is everything....go and get a fat A!!!

Great teacher! some of the most insightful conversations you will ever have. You might wanna be a decent writer because thats basically what the tests are.

Ken knows his stuff, but cannot present the material clearly to students. Many people would ask questions and he would make it even more confusing. This was a typical GE lecture class.

Ken Brown is the shit!!! He is so laid back about everything. If I could take every class I needed at Poly with this guy, I would. I can't believe anyone would give him a bad recommendation (fuckin' idiots!). Watching movies, getting classes cancelled, and having the questions to the final is my idea of the ideal teacher...which is Ken Brown. Take him and enjoy life!

Dr. Brown is a nice guy but his heart is not in the class. He missed class 5 or 6 times during the quarter and he frequently complains about how he's behind and too tired to teach the class. His tests are fair and the classwork load is very manageble, but I was dissappointed by his lack of enthusiasm.

As mentioned above this guy basically gives a rat's ass about his students. he is fairly conceited and the thing I really hated was that he made 25% of our grade participation. I guess in his small mind I didn't participate enough so, even though I got A's and B's on everyhting else I ended up with a C+ in the class. Take someone else if possible, otherwise prepare to suffer.

Dr. Brown is organized, well-spoken, well-read and attractive. He is a fair grader and the readings are planned perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed his class, even though it focused almost exclusively on African-Americans. It's too bad a separate course exists to focus on the subject matter. I would enjoy reading the material in "standard" English courses.

Brown is not a teacher I will ever take again. I did alright in his class, but his ability to relate to his students sucks. He actually had the nerve to curve down, ie. 95+ was an A, 85-95 was a B, 75-85 was a C, and so on. Don't take him, especially if it is for a GE.

I was disappointed in this class from the beginning. I don't like the fact that the class was supposed to be ethnic american lit. and he narrowed it down to just african american lit, because "that's what he knows the most about, being black himself". If he doesn't know about the literature of other ethnicities, then someone else more qualified should be teaching the class. Some of his lectures were very animated, but a considerable number were disinterested and apathetic, and he did miss multiple classes. He said on the first day of class that it was a priority for him to learn students' names, yet he was still clueless with all but a fraction of the group by the 9th and 10th week of classes, something that bothers me considerably in a class where you get a grade for participation. I think this guy should go on sebatical and reevaluate his teaching strategies.

Fine teacher, but a little dry in the presentation. I wouldnt suggest having her at 8:00 in the morning, might be difficult staying awake.

This teacher hasn't taught at Cal Poly for years--why are his evaluations here?
