WARNING: THIS TEACHER IS A COMPLETE MORON. DO NOT TAKE HIM AT ANY EXPENSE. He grades horribly. If you don't have the picture exactly how he has it in his book, then you won't do well. If you do get stuck with him, take notes on exactly how he solves problems and memorize it. This may be a problem because it is very hard to stay awake in class.

This class seems really easy and enjoyable at first, but don't be fooled because he is one of the worste teachers I've ever seen. He is soo boring in class it almost drives you to tears. On the first test i got EVERY SINGLE RIGHT answer and still recieved a D(that included the heavy grading curve). I would avoid this guy at all cost.

I remember looking on PolyRatings and seeing that I should "avoid this teacher at all costs". I went ahead and took the class( I should have followed others advice). Ihad to withdraw because he was not explaining the material clearly at all, he doesn't give partial credit hardly( even if you get the right answer if one step is off from the way he wants it he will knock you off all the points. I would suggest if you have no other choice then wait til next quarter cause I definatley completely wasted several hours of my life with his lecture and didn't learn a thing. As people have said before don't take this professor at all. He did let me withdraw easily though. He is a nice guy but not a good teacher.

Boone is the worst teacher i have ever had. The way he teaches his class is horrible and confusing. I recently got back a mid-term, and missed 1 problem worth 5 points and I got a 66 because he couldn't understand how I did my work. I went into his office hours to explain and he still couldnt get it! He is old, teaches horribly, is hard of hearing, and should be in a retirement home. DO NOT TAKE AT ALL COSTS. The only reason i did was because i couldnt get any other physics class, it wasnt worth it!

I think there's something wrong with how he evaluates the exams when the average is 32, the high is 75, and the low is 2.

THIS GUY IS AN ASSHOLE. HE GOES OUT OF HIS WAY TO TRY TO STICK IT TO STUDENTS. DONT EVER BE LATE FOR A LAB BECAUSE GUESS WHAT, HE WILL GIVE YOU AN INCOMPLETE(BASICALLY AN F). HE HANDS OUT HOMEWORK SHEETS AND DOESNT EXPLAIN WHAT WE HAVE TO DO, THEN STICKS IT TO THE WHOLE CLASS WHEN THEY DONT DO SOMETHING THAT HE DIDNT EVEN MENTION(HE ALSO GRADES HOMEWORK BASED ON RIGHT/WRONG W/ NO PARTIAL CREDIT). NOT ONLY IS HE A DICKHEAD, BUT HE IS STUPID AS WELL. HE RAMBLES ON ABOUT THE STUPIDEST STUFF FOR MOST OF THE PERIOD (COMMON SENSE STUFF), THEN SPENDS TEN OR 15 MINUTES ON THE PERTINENT INFORMATION. LETS PUT IT THIS WAY, AFTER TWO WEEKS, ITS ALREADY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO PASS THE COURSE. HOPEFULLY YOU SEE WHAT A SHITTY PROFESSOR THIS GUY IS. SAVE YOURSELF, FIND ANOTHER TEACHER.

This guy just plain sucks. He's totally vague, boring, and basically a bad teacher. He is the worst teacher that I have had here at Cal Poly since i started. If you want a decent grade, a decent understanding, and a decent teacher, FIND SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!!

Dude this guy grades hard.im in the middle of taking his class and we just got back our first midterm and i got a 52 out of a hundred which was a D- . i made the stupidist little mistakes and he took off a grip of points. like i forgot an x on an axis. you get credit if you get the write answer and you dont if you get the wrong one, even if the mistake was minute and your process and logic was correct. make sure you show your work CLEARLY. he is definitly the hardest grading professor i have had so far. his problem is his grading. he doesnt give partial credit but if you stick to the hw you should do well. i should have gotten higher on the test but those damn little mistakes that cost me a lot of points and his stupid ass grading style.

While Boone was a fairly hard grader, his homework and tests were very straightforward, like the examples he did in class. if you followed him and took notes, then there are no problems. I thought he was a decent teacher.

Dr. Boone explains material clearly, and even if you don't understand he'll answer questions during lab and helps a lot during office hours. His writing is a little hard to read so you have to listen to what he's saying at the same time. His tests aren't difficult, but his grading is really tough. He tends to be very anal about what he wants on the tests. If he says in lecture that he wants to see you do something on a test make note of it because he'll hold true to that. He does seem to take off quite a bit for small things though. His labs are usually super-short. I usually got out within an hour or so, but never more than 2 hours. He greades labs the same way he grades tests so be careful about that. Overall,he's a decent teacher, but needs to refine his grading skills.

Dr. Boone does a decent job trying to explain things in class, however, he oftentimes confuses things by explaining unnecessary complexities or giving examples that just don't make sense. He has an obsession with drawing pictures, which makes absolutely no sense to me. I personally don't find pictures very helpful, and when I do, it's usually in my own strange style. In this class, pictures seem (note this is just my opinion) to count more than the actual work itself, which makes no sense to me. In lab, he is inflexible and relatively difficult to deal with, because he has very set ways that things must be done, and very set formats for the lab reports. While the lab grades don't matter too much (and therefore it's not a big deal in the long run if you screw the format up), it is rather annoying. He is also very unapproachable. As an example, I made an appointment a day ahead of time to talk to him about friction (something I was having great difficulty with) after our lab class. The "appointment" consisted of him listening to my questions and throwing out one or two-word answers while packing his bag. He left me with a very strong impression that he didn't want to talk to me, and wasn't willing to help me with the problems I was having in his class. I had to drop his class because of his unwillingness to help me understand. Had he spent the time to answer my questions, I probably would have at least been able to pull a 'C' out of the class, but at the point where I withdrew, there was mathematically no way I would have been able to get anything higher than an F.

I was dicouraged by the previous polyratings on boone before i took his class. I had him for lab and lecture, hes one of those professors that requires all his students to be in both his lab and lecture classes. Boone explains things well, his only weakness in lecture was when a student asked a question he sometimes took a long time answering, before he made sure he understood the question being asked. more than once he misenterpereted the students question, but i wouldnt blame this completely on him, often the students didnt phrase their questions well. The tests were fair, though they got progressively more difficult along with the material. There were never any surprises on the tests, and he always provided all the equations you need on the board during exams, and allowed any calculator you wanted. The truth is that he can be boring, and is a huge stickler about notation (he takes off major points, but he is very clear about what he wants) Overall, i recommend boone to anyone who is good at following instructions.

Dr. Boone probably isn't the worst professor at this school, but he isn't great. I don't think anyone will ever come across a professor who is more anal about labeling axis. His grading is weird, if your pictures do not look like his you will probably get about 25% for the problem if your answer is right. He isn't sympathetic to other students like someone said on this site. His tests aren't too hard, but they aren't exactly easy, and he tends to only do easy examples in class. The assignments are also bearable. I wouldn't recommend taking him unless you have a good understanding of physics, or have no other option.

What can I say only that Boone is a great instructor and really laid back. As long as you turned in a lab write-up with some crap on it, you got credit. He explained the material well and didn't expect you to be able to know every little thing there is to know about physics. If you had a question, he always answered it and you came out understanding it. The real cool thing was the last week before finals (March 03) he was like "it is getting close to Christmas.....and I wanted to be nice. I don't want to do this lab so... I am going to let you all go." I thought that was pretty cool. The first week he also let us go after taking role telling us that "the lab that we are supppose to do is not worth our time this week, so you can go." AND he cancelled one lab too. So out of 10 labs, we ended up doing only 7. Overall, Boone is a great instructor and I would take him again. If you want to understand the labs and get a good grade, even if you don't, take Boone.

At first I thought Dr. Boone was a little anal about doing things exactly his way, but after a while I realized that the way he tells you to do things ultimately makes things much simpler. For pretty much every problem you will encouter in HW or on a test he has done an example problem that is similar. This was helpful to me because I understand problems best when I see an example, rather than trying to figure it out from a couple generic formulas. He is very strict on grading though. I scored over 100% on the 1st two midterms, got a low B on the third, and probably a B or C on the final, and ended up with a B- in the class.

Boone isn't perhaps the worst guy out there, but avoid him if you can. Half of his lectures are sample problems, which are good, and homework isn't particularly hard (but the grader takes off major points for little things) and the homework weight in the class is really unfair, it is worth more than 1/2 of what the final is worth! Don't be fooled - his tests are not as easy as the homework problems, so don't be surprised to get a D or F on them. However he does curve, but he is also very specific on doing things his way so make sure you pay close attention to detail (such as labeling answers) and drawing pictures. BOTTOM LINE - avoid him unless you know your stuff already, this guy is not for students unfamiliar with physics.

If you have no background in physics you will be just fine with Boone. Every problem on his exams have been worked out as an example during class time or are on the homework. Most of the homework problems are worked out as examples and he is very willing to help in office hours. Trust me, go to his office hours if you want to get good hw grades. In the end, if you go to class, take good notes, and spend a decent amount of time going over his examples you will get nothing less than an A.

Ok.. I kicked ass in highschool physics.... lets just put it this way.. he might know the material but as far as grading he's an ass. I lost all credit on questions on my midterms because I would draw my axis differently that he liked, I lost points because as he said.. " .. you're organization isn't the greatest.." if you want take him... as far as I'm concered it's not the material as much as it's the teacher.

Boone has a very unusual way of grading physics. First off, he doesnt grade on a curve, under any circumstances. Secondly, he grades very harshly on everything, including tests, homework and quizes. If you get the right answer but didnt go about it his way, but still showed work and had clear logic using given formulas, he will take away 80%(no joke) of the points for that problem. He does this on everything on the class, so the chances of you passing the class are slim to none. If u want to get a shitty grade and not learn anything, this is your guy!!!!!!!!

Boone is a very fair teacher. He gives weekly quizes which are worth 50% of your grade, which I liked. Sometimes they were a little tricky but if you knew your material you were guaranteed a high B. He was helpful during office hours and recongized those that tried and gave them credit for trying. I would recommend him if you want to take MATH 143

Boone did an alright job of explaining the material. It seemed though that he would rather be teaching PHYS and not math. I have a feeling the reason that the class was easy is because CALC in high school had already covered these topics. Homework was due too often although he graded it very easily. Grading scale was fair. Overall a run of the mill experience.

Dr. Boone is an excellent professor. His tests are fair, but you must keep up with the material in order to do well in his class. He is very friendly and sympathetic to students. Take the classes he teaches if you get the chance.

I totally recommend taking this class from Dr. Boone. He doesn't take role in lecture, and his labs are super easy (you can BS most of it). He offers up to 5% extra credit if you watch some videos and write a 1 page summary on the video-easiest extra credit I've ever done. He gives out study guides before the tests-do them, it's all on the tests. The tests are fill in the blank and essay, they aren't too hard either. If you don't understand something he'll totally explain it to you and will even tell you if he won't put it on the test. One warning, I recommend consuming a strongly caffinated drink before attending lecture.
