Boche is an ok lecturer, although rather boring at times. However, his tight jeans have gone to his head, and he's got an attitude problem the size of Texas. But he was a fair teacher, i'd take Connely for 215 if you can.

The class wasn't terribly entertaining or enjoyable. Boche isn't enegetic either, but he does know his assembly. An easy class overall.

Boche knows what he's talking about but isn't quite able to pass the information on effectively. He jumps from section to section in the book and at times goes off on a tangent. He has a very soothing voice that makes you wanna sleep, so it can be hard to stay awake in his class. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. I would wait until Dr Connely taught the class.

He's freakin' ancient, and extremely monotone, but if you're able to stay awake and somehow manage to pay attention, he does a good job of explaining the subject matter. Otherwise, head previous advice and seek out a more lively professor.

If Boche is the only teacher available for the course...two words come to mind...GOOD LUCK. His monotone voice makes it difficult to want to stay awake and his lectures do not pertain much to what you need to know for the labs or quizzes. He is unthusiastic about teaching and, from my impression, uncaring towards his students. Better hope his office hours are during a time when you're available because when I tried to schedule a time when I could meet him to get some help in the class he basically blew me off and I was on my own. Recommendation - find another teacher at all costs.

Boche's class wasn't very easy in the beginning. My suggestion is to read the book and pay close attention in class for the first couple of weeks. After you build your foundation for the class, it gets easier and easier. You have to have basic programming skills, and the ability to use those skills in coding some difficult assignments. His quizzes were worth a lot of points, five of the seven were only counted. They counted for 50% of the final grade, which means that each point in his 10-point quizzes counted as a percent of the final grade! Also, try to sit toward the front of the class because it is sometimes hard to hear him speak.

Boche is not exactly the most exciting lecturer. His lectures did tend to be boring sometimes but damn, I don't know how anyone could keep a classes attention for a hour talking about assembly. He is informative thou. I thought that the material covered was pretty interesting and I was pretty satisfied with what I learned from the class (I was pretty impressed when I asked some other individuals what they learned from the same class with a different professor and found that they didn't cover as much as we did). 50 percent of your grade is based on the best 5 out of 7 quizes that are given weekly. Quizes are fairly straight foward. I suggest finding someone who has taken the class with him and studying their quizes. There are 5 project that I thought were pretty fair (don't wait till the last minute to start them thou). The final is just like the quizes (he says that the final is like to 2 quizes). This class isn't all that tricky. Even thou Boche isn't the greatest lectures, I thought he was an alright guy. I leave you now with what I thought was one of his funniest quotes. "Real men program in assembly." - Ray Boche

Alright, the lectures are boring but I mean, look at the material guys! It's equally as boring. My only complaint is that it is really hard to predict what material will be on the quiz and he doesn't really tell you what to study. For those who were more fortunate than I as to have quizzes from his previous classes, you bastards ruined the curve! I suggest locating old quizzes if you want it to get an easy A. I got a 'B' average on the quizzes, but I seriously knew the material more than the fools who had old quizzes and got A's.

Boche is an ok lecturer if you like that boring, monotone type. Trying to keep awake in his class is very difficult unless you really like computer architecture. But even then, you have to struggle to stay awake. His labs are average but tend to get you thinking at times...Overall, his an ok teacher but if you have another choice, take the other choice!

This man will make you work! He covers much more information than Connely. However, if you keep up with the projects, you will learn (one wonders what the use of know assembly language is). He is more of a helper than an instructor. He gives you your "toolbox" (the blue instruction handbook) and sets you on your way. He is very helpful when you have a problem, though, and will sit and walk with you through the code. With some classes, if you get a 45/50 on 7 of 5 quizzes (10 apiece, he gives no tests other than the final), you don't have to take the final. Speaking of which, the quizzes were 50%, the projects 30%, and the final 20%.

Although it took me a week or two to get used to his style, I ended up really liking this professor. He really knows what's going on, and turned out to be a fair and humourous teacher. Just read everything he gives you, and you'll be set. He will let you do your own thing, which can be both good and bad. Do the projects and study for the quizzes and you'll do okay. Some say he's boring, but I liked his lectures.

If you have the chance to take another professor for this class i would go with them. Professor Boche definately knows his stuff but he has problems teaching it to the sutdents. Everyday in lecture all he does is just run through line after line of code, which isn't always the best way to teach. Also the programs he has you do start out real easy which makes you think this is going to be an easy class and then they get incredibly hard. All i can say is good luck if you get him!!

Man, this guy sucks. I was pretty much lost during the beginning of the quarter and the quizzes are really picky. I averaged only B's on them, the good part is that if you get an A average on the quizzes you don't have to take the final. The first assignments are pretty easy but the difficulty increases exponentially towards the end. The final isn't too hard, it's like two quizzes so if you need to save yourself from getting a sorry grade you still have a chance.

Bottom line, Boche is a very fair teacher would has a special kind of enthusiasm. He does care about teaching the material and does a good job of it. You take your best 5 of 7 quizes which are straight from lecture. If you can program, you can get A's or B's on his quizes (50% of grade). If you do the programs you can get A's on that part (30% of grade). If you study your old quizes you can get an A on the final (20% of grade). Therefore you should be able to get an A in the class no problem (or at least a B). Plus he is way better than the alternatives (from what I hear).

Boche, aka, Lil' Tricky Dicky (you'll know where the little comes from when you see his pants) got his nickname from for being such a hard arss. Not only is this class boring to begin with, its outdated, like Boche. You'll never see another 68000 in your life. For god sakes, LTD doesnt even know what Ctrl+Alt+Del is. His grading policies is one of worst I've come across. I just hope Boche retires....FROM LIFE!! Muhahahahahaha

I don't know what got the person below ticked off, but Boche is harmless. He is quite a passive person, but he is also realistic in his demands. He tries to challenge you to keep things interesting on the homework and the midterms are pretty darn well explained in the classes before, but the course has a a somewhat steep learning curve almost immediately. The most difficult part was figuring out how to use the assembler: the teacher hadn't used this one previously so we all were figuring it out at the same time. You shouldn't have much of a problem with this course if you come to class. If you do have a big problem with this material, especially as straight forward as Boche presents it (other teachers' classes look a lot tougher!), then I recommend considering changing your major (from CPE or CSC). One recommendation I have is to try to read up a little before taking this course on what assembly is if you don't already know.

Boche is a pretty good instructor for 215. His tests are pretty fair and a lot of the questions come from the most recent programming assignment. His lectures are boring, but he does do a lot of sample quiz questions which help. The first three programming assignments are very easy, but the last two are a lot more difficult and time consuming. Overall, I would recommend Boche for 215.

First off, Boche lacks any mental capacity to lecture in class. Boche speaks in a very low tone and mumbles a lot of what he's saying. Students are often (I'm not the only one) leave class confused and frustrated. I learned everything off of the book because he's no good at answering questions either. His writing on the board is sloppy and scattered around the board. He has no format for the student to copy his writing and it was very frustrating and made the learning process even harder. I hope everyone avoids this man. Even if he's the only one available, don't take him.

Well just like any other course, if you put enough time into this class you will get a good grade. Be prepared to spend time a lot of time in the computer lab working on your labs. Boche is a little boring in lecture but he does know the material. The final is just like a long quiz so there are no suprises.

If you are lucky enough i would highly recomend this prof for 215. Your other options are never that great unless fryer is teach it. He is a very cool guy, fair and straightforward about grades. Helpful in office hours and great in lab. His lab is optional so when you do go expect to get a lot done on your project. Take this prof, the best 215 teacher by far. Also made me well prepared to take 315 which i am doing well in because of how he taugth the material.
