Fine teacher, but a little dry in the presentation. I wouldnt suggest having her at 8:00 in the morning, might be difficult staying awake.

This guy is crazy! He is very entertaining though, and kept the class laughing. He lets you have a page of notes for the test, which is VERY helpful, take advantage of it! The tests are multiple choice, and then some problems you have to work out. He tells you what is on the test before it, so they are not that hard. He talks in different voices, which is sort of creepy and talks about his wife alot. A pretty cool guy though.

professor bishop is the most disgusting human being i have ever met. he is rude to students during class, calling them stupid to their faces. when i asked him for help in spring quarter he was never any. plus he felt it was ok to email me in the fall of the next quarter telling me i should re-think the whole college thing and if he were my parents he would be "pulling the plug." because i didnt do to well in his class. he has no concideration for any student. if you wish to take a class that is benificial to your self as well as you college career i suggest you dont take him. althogh he is one of the only teachers who teach this class, which is why he thinks he is the shit. he is a rotten person.

Bishop is the man. He hooks you up come test time. You get to have a full page of notes. I never went to class, never did the homework, (which i am told is easy) and I still got a C. Only in America.

This guy is a little quirky but he's cool. Homework is due on the day of the midterms and it is posted on blackboard- all you have to do is copy it and turn it in. The class grades averaged low B, high C but if you make a conceited effort to learn the stuff and make a good cheat sheet (he allows an 8 1/2" X 11" sheet for every test) it is easy to pull off an A. Overall, he is a good teacher and actually does a decent job in making accounting somewhat interesting.

bishop is a good teacher. he cares about his students and is always there to help. he's a funny guy but the material is a little boring. he does however make funny voices which makes things interesting. homework is posted online so you can just copy it, which he knows you'll do. however, if you do and then check your answers you'll learn the material a lot more and therefore do better. the tests aren't too bad. he does allow you to have a cheat sheet. Use It! USE IT WISELY!

i thought that the material was somewhat boring, but he tried to make it more intersting by adding in jokes and voices. He helped the students understand by trying to relate the problems to real-life. i'd recommend taking him

Bishop was a great 8 am teacher. He was always outgoing which helped a lot when I was nodding off in class. During lecture he lets you know when material is not in the book and if there are certain pages you don't have to read to save you some time. His tests are very fair and he allows a cheat sheet. Overall a good teacher...take him.

Professor Bishop is a really good teacher. If you attend class everyday you should do fine. He gives really good notes so the book is hardly neccessary, except for the homework problems. His tests were nice because he let you have a full sheet of notes, front and back. Keep up with everything though, because even with the notes, the tests aren't always that easy. Very good teacher, and interesting class overall, i highly recommend him and the class

Bishop is a good guy. He wasn't as funny as I was told he was but his tests were straight forward and you were able to bring in a cheet sheet. I had the class at 7 am so I can't really tell you much about about how good the lecutures were since i learned mostly straight from the book.

Funny guy. Managed to keep me awake at 8am. The tests are straight forward, pay attention in class and/or do the reading. I did a little of both and got an A. If you can add AND subtract, you'll do fine in this class. I hope you like hearing about chocolate, because almost every hypothetical involves some chick named Ann and her chocolate shop.

Bishop is a great professor. Go to class, as he will pretty much tell you what will be on the tests. Not difficult, just pay attention to the lectures and do the hw examples and you'll have no problem.

bishop is pretty badass, hes a funny guy, likes to be goofy in class to keep everyone awake and he knows his shit. i put very minimal effort into this class and got a b, an a is definitely attainable. highly recommend him, especially if you have it at 7 am like i did!

Just like all the other comments, Bishop is a great teacher for non-accounting people to understand accounting.

Professor Bishop was very prepared for classes as he has been teaching this course for quite some time now. I found his lectures to be easy to follow as he uses an outline form and writes everything you need to know on the board. It is definitely important to go to classes as he tells you things that will be on the test, but are not in the book. 7 AM classes are difficult to stay awake for, but Bishop does his best to keep you alert. Since this is a large lecture class, be prepared to do your homework by hand. However, he does give you all the answers online to download, so it really isn't that difficult. If you attend class and do the homework the exams are pretty easy.

Professor Bishop somehow kept us all awake from 8-10am on Mondays (and Wed.), mostly due to the fact that he was able to make accounting fun. Okay, maybe not FUN, but definitely interesting. His jokes are pretty funny, and keep you in a lighter mood when you wish to God you were back in bed dreaming about Will Smith (or Eva Longoria). His only homework requirements are due with every test: 3 midterms and a final. Since he keeps the hw and answers online all quarter, you can work at your own pace. Each hw assignment is worth a max of 9 points, which calculates to like, half a percent of your total grade, but w/e. I would HIGHLY recommend doing the hw, even though sometimes it's long and worth so little, because thats what he bases his tests on. Another great thing about Prof. Bishop is he lets you have a "cheat sheet" for each test, full page front and back. It's not too hard, not entirely necessary to show up since the hw is online, although it's always a good idea. So, in summation, I would highly recommend him to nonbusiness majors. He's funny, knows what he's talking about, and with any effort, you'll leave knowing the basics of accounting = )

A great teacher and very understanding person. Tests were not bad I just wish he put some notes online to view when you miss class. The class is graded different from most classes and so it is easy to get a C you have to have a 60%. The class is a lot of fun if you enjoy accounting, but I personally am glad I am not an accountant. Great Class Would Reccomend!!!

He is good at presenting the material. He makes it easy to know exactly what to study for each test. Going to class helps on the written. I did better on the tests when I went to class. One thing is if you have any questions do not bother with office hours or emails he rarely checks his email and is rarely in his office hours. So as far as being available for help he isnt.

Bishop is hilarious...He was the first instructor at Poly who actually presented material well enough to understand it. Class was at 7 am, but it always flew by and he's entertaining to watch. I'm not really an A student, but I was able to pull it off with this guy...He also lets you use a back to back fulll size piece of paper with notes on it for each test

At 8clock, a 2 hour accounting lecture is the least apealling thing in the world. I never went to lecture and did decent on the tests by reading the book and making sure to understand the problems. If you go to every class, you most likely will get an A or a B. IF you dont go to class you can easily get a C.

Bishop is CRAZY, but in a good way! He is high energy, and that was really helpful for a 7-9 AM class. He moved (more like ran) all around the room, and even did little voices and stuff to make it interesting. He makes the accounting principles relate to real life situations, so it is easier to understand. He knows what he is doing. You are allowed a cheat sheet for every test AND the final, so take the time and DO IT! I scanned examples out of the book and pasted them onto my paper and passed all my tests with As and Bs. All the answers to the homework are on the internet, he gives you the web address, so I would do it, even if you just copy all the answers down and turn it in, he doesn't care, and you'll still learn something from it. You are allowed to miss one test, and make it up in the next class day, but if you did you had to take a point hit, unless you had an excused absence from the school. I would recommend him, and would take him again if I had an interest in accounting.

This guy is amazing! i had him 2 times a week for 2hrs at 7 in the morning and i didn't fall asleep once! he is really funny and sometimes deems it necessary to run up and down the stairs of the big circular lecture hall impersonating a drugged out college student. which is awesome cause he's old and full of energy. no stupid power point! he doesn't like technology and sometimes rambles about it. he makes sure everyone knows how to do the procedures and writes them on the board. For all of his tests he tells you EXACTLY what will be on the test, no doing the same calculations over and over but with different numbers. a few of my other accounting teachers do that urgh!

Bishop was a great teacher. He was really clear on all of the material that he presented to the class. He tells you exactly what will be on the test, and allows you to bring a full page (front and back) cheat sheet with you. Try not to miss class (even though it's 7AM) because he sometimes gives you hints on things on the test or what to put on your cheat sheet, or will give extra credit for being there! You can just copy the answers he gives you to the homework (which takes hours to copy anyways, I don't know HOW long it'd take if you actually DID it) and you'll still learn enough for the test. Pretty easy class, kids. No sweat.

This class was easy and bishop made it so even if we all were falling asleep at 7 am. Warning, he likes to put his nails against the chalkboard if you are falling asleep. I got a B+ but I was expecting an A and am going to talk to him about it. Its one of those classes where he tell's you what is on the test, there is room to mess up, and you can copy the hw online last minute although its a lot of copying. If you are a smart person and dont study, I guarantee an C. For people who didnt get what seemed obvious at times, he clarified until they did. It also didnt hurt that he had a sense of humor and has make up tests and two final dates incase you need to leave early. Take him.

He is an excellent in keeping in tune with his students. The homework is not turned in but helps for the tests. The class is interesting and very informative. I would recommend him to anyone think of taking a course offered by him!

I highyl recommend this teacher. I had him in 8 o'clock in the morning and I never ever had a teacher with so much energy. He kept the whole class awake. The homework is not collected so it is up to you if you want to do it, but it will benefit you a lot. He always motivates you to do better and gives you the opportunity to drop the lowest exam grade. He is just a great teacher and deserves to be recognized. =)

bishop is one of the most enjoyable teachers i've had at cal poly. he makes a boring subject seem somewhat interesting. there are three midterms and a final which are all worth 100 points. he is an extremely fair grader and if you do the homework you should do quite well. he tells you that attendance is not required so in a 5 unit class that is kinda nice. he is a very cool guy whos funny, energetic, and respects his students. i wish all teachers were like the "Bish"

Bishop is a cool guy. He explains the notes well, but his outlines are very vage. He will help you with the monster problem also. His tests are pretty hard though. It is not impossible to get an A. I would highly recommend him.

I had been putting off 214 because it was 5 units and thought it would be impossible to get an A in, but with bishop it was a piece of cake and I had fun too. His lectures outline exactly what you need to concentrate on out of the book and the tests are straight forward. If you do the practice problems and read the book you'll ace the class. I definetly recommend bishop!!!

I think that Bishop was a good instructor. The tests that he gives are not that hard, but not that easy as well. You really have to read the chapters thoroughly in order to do well on his exams. The multiple choice questions get tougher as the quarter proceeds...be warned. Some of the questions are extremely vague and leave you wondering where did he get these questions from.The problems, on the other hand, are extremely easy and if you do the homework you will do fine on that section of the test. Overall he is a good hearted guy who does want his students to do well.

Dr. Bishop was an awsome teacher. He made accounting interseting and even fun. He was always enthusiastic about accounting and it made class much more enjoyable. He seemed to really enjoy watching us learn the concepts, he would get so excited when he would call on somebody and they had the right answer. He assigns optional homework, and gives 3 midterms and a final. doing the hw helps alot, even if you dont do it all on the day its "due" do it before the tests becuase his questions are based on the hw. i definitly recomend Bishop for 214.

Roger Bishop, or "THE BISH" as he refers to himself in third person is an OK teacher at best. He tends to speak into the dry-erase board and spends so much time pulling numbers out of his ass and trying to act cute in front of the class that you end up learning nothing. His grading scheme sucks, and his lectures are so godamn boring you will be writing a countdown of the minutes left in class on your paper.

I found that Bishop was very difficult to follow in his lectures. I do not feel that I learned a thing from this class. Tests were the majority of the grade, with 2 excel assignments and one group project. I would not recommend Bishop to anyone who enjoys accounting, and wants to concentrate in accounting.

Bishop is the funniest guy in the college of business, and he makes accounting semi-interesting as well. He often impersonates his wife, which is hilarious, and he is fair with his grading. Keep up on the homework, even though it's not collected, and it's easy. His final is tough, so be ready. He didn't make our class do the group project, all we had to do was listen to some speakers in class and we got some points for showing up. I could have had an A if I'd been ready for that final.

Bishop is a very good teacher. After disliking financial accounting, I enjoyed managerial. He is entertaining and his lectures are very clear. I had very few problems with the material, and any I had he cleared up easily while not making me feel stupid. I would have had an A except for the final. Again, do the homework even though it is not collected. VERY helpful in understanding the material and studing for exams. I would definitely reccomend him to people. Especially after some horror stories I have heard about other teachers.

Bishop is a pretty good teacher. He only gives you the material that you need to know so there aren't any big suprises on the tests. Go to lecture and do the homework. Bishop makes the class interesting even if you don't like accounting too much. The class is also based on total points so points on projects count just as much as a points on tests which is pretty cool. Take Bishop if you can.

Bishop is the best. One of the coolest teachers at Cal Poly. Take him if you get the chance. Just do the reading and recommended homework if you want to do well. If you can do the homework without using your notes the test should be a breeze. He gives partial credit and makes it obvious what you're going to see on the test. Again, take him if you can. Accounting is boring as hell, but Bish is the man. You can sit through this guy's class without falling asleep, unless you are the hot asian chick from my class. His tests are 50-50 mc and work probs. HW is never due. Not an easy A, but you can.....

Bishop is great at relating to his students, his lectures are easy to follow, homework is never collected and can be found in the reserves, he gives plenty of time to complete assignments, the only thing that sucks about his class is how you can get screwed over on his multiple choice questions because they are ridiculously out of porportion in value on his tests. Other than that, I definitely recommend him.

I had Bishop for 214 and 215 and he is a really cool guy. his 214 class was easier but if your going to take either accounting class you should take it with bish. he assigns homework but never collects it, and he tells you exactly what will be on the test. his multiple choice questions are pretty tough and this quarter it screwed me. he gives excel assignments and a group project to boost your grade. hes pretty funny and he doesnt give a shit if you dont come to class. if you just do the homework, and study a little you will be guaranteed a good grade!

THE BISH. I love this guy. i did nothing and got a C in managerial accounting. I wish i had this guy for all my classes. the great thing is that i probably learned something, even though i didnt work too hard....if you wanna pass managerial accounting and do barely anything, this is the guy to take...not recommended if you are an accounting major though. THE BISH ROCKS!

"Bish," as he calls himself, is a very animated teacher who seems to think more of interesting and humerous ways to convey information to the class than its actual content. Not a very personalble guy, he comes to class, lectures, and gets out. He doesn't seem too concerned if you have questions and he does not stick to his office hours at all. Our group waited around his office for an hour on a Friday until we finally left. Turns out he was at his "Professional Accounting Job" downtown. He isn't a very fair grader either.

Not a difficult teacher but he tried to screw me over on my grade. It seems he takes to slackers and kindda gives them a little boost. However if you a good student he will try to grade you down. i kept track of all my grades for the class otherwise he would have never give me the grade i deserved. He is difficult to get a hold of but dont be afraid to confront him is he tries to stiff you on your grade.

Bishop is a pretty good teacher. SOmetimes I thought that his lectures could have been more complete and he could have explained things better... but overall it's not that bad of a class. 2 midterms and a final... none are cumulative which is great. Just be sure to do all the hw problems and you will dofine!

Roger Bishop is a very legitimate professor and I'm really glad I got him for Managerial Accounting. His teaching style is very basic and he explains things in very basic terms. Other than exam days, every day is nearly identical in that he outlines chapters and explains the material in them. His tests truly see if you understand the material. I studied and understood the first test and got an A. I didn't really get the material and studied minimally on the second test and got a D. So if you study, the tests are really not that hard, but if you don't they're impossible. He has three tests (including the final) equally worth a third of your grade each. Overall, Bishop was a great professor and I would definitely suggest him for the class.

Bishop is the best accounting professor that I\'ve had at Poly! He is always really lively and energetic which makes it easier to stay awake in class. He also gives the pages that you should read in the chapters, which saves a ton of time because you aren\'t forced to read the entire thing. His tests are fair and have no surprises, if you study the material you should do fine.

Bishop is an extremely energetic professor. He throws markers and talks like Goofy and sometimes whispers which means you really have to pay attention. His lectures outline the parts of the chapter he wants you to cover. Go to class, take notes, do the homework, check the homework against against the answers, and study. If you do that, a B is a very realistic grade. I will agree with the other people that his MC questions are weighted too heavily. 3 points for one question is way too much. He once said that we could have it one of two ways: more free response questions and less MC questions OR just keep it the same way. Personally, I\'d rather have more free response questions because that means you have a better chance of getting partial credit. Take Bishop\'s class.

Mr. Bishop is quite knowledgeable in Managerial Accounting and is able to present the material in a very easy to follow and enthusiastic manner. He actually has real-life workplace experience applying what he\'s teaching so that is always a plus. He\'s really energized and keeps the class entertained. He specifically tells you what material will be covered on the tests so you don\'t have to read the whole chapter and guess what will actually be asked. Also, the homework is optional, but you should do it anyway because I found the only way to succeed on the tests was to practice writing the formats, formulas, etc. Pay attention to vocabulary (usually found on the MC portion of tests, each question is worth 3 points!) as well as conceptual problems. Highly recommended instructor.

Horrible professor. If you like markers being thrown around and funny accents, go for it. Personally, I'd like to learn something and walk away with an A.

One of the best teachers for Managerial Accounting. Explains each chapter really good and is very expressive during lectures, such as jumping on a table for you to get a concept. Grade is based on 2 midterms and a final, which the final is basically a midterm since it is non-cumulative. Very understanding and will help you if you have a problem. Before a midterm, will review the what EXACTLY will be on and tell you what to focus on. As long as you attend class, pay attention to notes, and do the practice problems that are handed to you with the answers. You will do very well. Highly recommend him, won't regret it.

AMAZING. Absolutely amazing. He's the greatest teacher ever. Take him if you can! He knows what he's taking about (to a t) and will take the time to explain to you if you don't understand what he's talking about. He's funny, professional, and basically awesome. His tests are difficult, but if you actually read and do the homework you'll do fine. It's hard to get an A if you mess up on the first test but he's really good about helping with grades if you need it. TAKE THIS CLASS!!

I don't know. I think most of his reviews tend to overrate him. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy and an acceptable professor and I would recommend a friend to taking him. That said, I just don't think he is a very good at teaching the material or that knowledgeable. He teaches the class by writing outline notes on the board and will maybe 1 or 2 questions at the end of the class. Frankly, I found his outlines to be pretty repetitive and not helpful. You really had to go learn the material on your own, which wasn't very difficult but it made class almost seem like a waste of time. In my opinion, a fully competent professor could teach the material in 1/3 time he does, and get his point across better. I guess, in conclusion, he's okay.

Honestly, Bishop is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. There are 2 midterms and a final which are all nearly impossible and he doesn't present the material clearly! The final had a dumb question about a broom and i spent twenty minutes on that and still didn't get the right answer. AVOID HIM PLEASE!!!

I know most people say Bishop is easy and straightforward, but I thought his class was really challenging. I did all the homework problems twice, went to class and took all the notes, yet I could never seem to do well on the tests. He really tests that you can understand and apply the material, and the tests aren't as similar to the homework as you'd expect, at least in my opinion. He is a really nice man though and makes class entertaining!

Bishop has been my favorite professor in OCAB so far. He is extremely knowledgable, presents information clearly in class and basically writes notes for you. If you attend class and do the practice problems, there is no reason to not know the information. The two excel homework assignments were easy to complete, even if the format was kind of ridiculous. I hated financial accounting and was worried I would do poorly in managerial, but because Bishop actually teaches very well I have done much better than I anticipated.

bishop is awesome. He has so much energy i cant believe it. He always made the classes entertaining by doing things like standing on desks and chairs, & laying on the ground just to get certain points across. i would definitely recommend him!

Definitely one of my favorite professors at Poly. He's an older gentleman with the energy of a 20 year old. I can honestly say that I was never bored in his class even though Managerial Accounting can be dry at times. You need the book, but he'll tell you which sections of the chapter to read (rather than to read the whole chapter). The class is graded on two midterms, a non-cumulative final, and two excel assignments. If you go to class, take notes, do the reading he tells you to read and follow his directions, an A isn't very hard to earn.

What a waste of a class. After reading the polyratings I was looking forward to having him but i was sorely disappointed. Maybe you should take him if you like his teaching style but if you don't you are going to hate his class like I did. There's a reason why the reviews past 2013 are so black and white. I wish I took someone else.

Overall a great guy who will basically stop class if he finds out a student is understanding something in order to help them out. Yes, he is a teacher who is out there to help his students learn and not just earn a paycheck. He isn't trying to trick you and lays out exactly what pages to read, how they correspond to his notes, and the tests are all non-cumulative along with being open book!!! However they are still not that easy. He also makes the homework assignments elective in which you decide whether you want to do them or not at the beginning of the quarter. You will also do Tax returns in class under his guidance so that you can easily get help from him rather than having to scramble to figure stuff out as with other teachers. Take him for Tax it will be well worth it.

Alright, I must say the guy is very nice. He is very energetic and always willing to help out with any questions during class. However, I felt his lectures were a bit long and tedious. He did not really explain how to work tax issues, rather he just told us where we could find how to do it in the book. I felt I had to teach myself. However, he does allow you to have an open book during the test. I personally tabbed everything in the chapters. His tests aren't too difficult as long as you study for a very good amount. Go to class,read the book,and study like crazy.

Take him if you DO NOT want to learn and DO NOT want a good grade.

Bishop is a cool guy overall...his tests are fairly straightforward, so if you study his practice problems and work them through, you should do fine. His tests are open-book (not notes) so be sure to copy the solutions of the problems onto the pages of your textbook. If you put in fair amount of effort, you'll do fine. The main drawback of Bishop, however, is the fact that he simply hates technology. There are no powerpoint slides, no typewritten assignments allowed (kill me please....). He also doesn't know how to post stuff on Blackboard. Mr. Bishops says "you must come see me in person if you need to contact me; no emails or phone calls allowed." And when confronted on this issue, he says that he gets bombarded with emails asking for lecture outlines (from students who choose to ditch class) or students asking to makeup exams that they somehow missed. He thinks that emails take time out of his unpaid schedule (that's what the office hours are for).
