Missed the first day, went to the second day. Went to the midterm. Went to the Final. Three days of class total. I got a B, easy. This kind of shit gives our school a bad name.

Dr. Berning made what could be a very boring subject interesting. I came into this class knowing nothing about cows and she did an excellent job of teaching the basics. I would recommend her for any dairy class.

This teacher is great. I would recommend her to anyone that wants to learn some pretty cool facts about cows and dairies and that wants to get a good grade with no problem. This teacher cares a lot for her students and makes a really good attempt to learn about them and help them with whatever they need. Berning is awesome so just take the class and enjoy it.

Dr. B was a great teacher! The class was interersting and summarized...no BS. Study hard for the quizes because they can help you grade a ton! Labs are fun and often don't take 3 whole hours. I highly recommend taking this class.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME teacher!!!!!! Definitely take her fr an class that you can, she is such a good instructor and you really will learn a lot in her class. She is so smart, she does math problems in her head that i have trouble doing on a calculator. Her tests arent that hard, they are all 50 questions and they are all worth the same amount. The final is not comprehnsive and there is only one lab quiz. If you show up for every lab, which i recommend, they were SO much fun, the lowest grade that you can get is a 45 out of 50. Nothing beats that. The book is only 8 dollars and her lectures stick pretty close to it, but some of the stuff she add to it in lecture WILL show up on the test. However, i went to the lectures for other reasons... Dr. Berning is hillarious, she made the most boring info so funny and she has the best one liners. Definitely take her!!!

Best teacher ever. Her ability to ability to teach students is surpassed only by her ability to inspire them. She will make you want to be involved in her class. Everyone should milk a cow before graduating Cal-Poly...TAKE A CLASS FROM DR. B!

Dr. Berning is one of the most personable professors I have encountered here at Cal Poly. She gets to know a majority of her students through interactive labs which are kept to minimum enrollment in order to ensure one-on-one activity. Her lectures are interesting and informative. She inspired me to take up a minor in Dairy Science which I hadn't given a thought to prior to her course. As long as you study for the three of her 50 question tests, you will do well and learn a lot.

FUN CLASS - AMAZING TEACHER ! Dr. B really cares about her students - she makes a strong effort to develop a relationship with each person in the class, answers questions thoroughly and clearly without making you feel inferior. She is considerate, friendly and attentive. She loves teaching and loves dairy. Lecture is straight forward - just fill out a notes packet, study the pages she tells you will be on the test and you'll do well. Lab is lots of fun - volunteer/participate as much as possible!

wow, all I can say is Dr B is the best teacher in the Ag dept. she really knows her stuff, and presents it in a way anyone can understand. Don't worry if you are from the bay area like me and have never touched a cow in your life. This class in interesting, well organized and you will know exactly what to expect on the tests. She has been teaching 230 forever, and doesnt change anything from quarter to quarter. She really only presents you with a note package which from which you will neeed to know the main ideas and terms. Her tests are right out of the notes. The labs are interesting and fun. You will get a tour of the dairy, learn how to milk, play with calves, watch someone do AI, learn how to judge and do some nutrition problems during the labs. You come out with a good understanding of dairy cattle and the industry, which may help you in a future job or internship. The things she teaches are things you will remember long after the class is over. My only advice is to go to class everyday. Some concepts are a little bit elementary and some are a little more challenging because there are so many types of people in the class. (hard core aggies and umm some ag business people who don't give a crap about ag.) I really reccoment taking this class for any ASCI or AGB support. Dr B is simply awesome.

Berning is an awesome professor! She is really funny and easy to talk to. First of all the lab is a joke and most of them are actually pretty fun, just try to have friends in the class. I never went to lecture and got a high A on the first midterm and an A on the second. The final is not cumulative and she basically tells you everything that is on it during the last lab. Coming from someone with NO experieence with cows, I actually learned a lot. This class is an easy A.

She was helpful when I asked her questions. Don't be afraid to go to her for help, and the treats that she keeps in her office are worth it too! I am glad I took dairy science with Dr. Berning because I came away with actually knowning something about cows from no previous experience. An added cool thing is that you didnt have to go buy a book; the book was the class notes --but you did have to buy that. I would def recommend taking this class.

DSCI 230 is one of the most fun classes I have ever taken at Poly! Dr. Berning is an easy going professor and will answer any questions. Labs are a ton of fun where you get to learn how to milk cows, collect semen from a bull, and play with calves. The class is not very hard to get an A in and the final is NOT cumulative. The \"textbook\" for this class is a notes package that is only $15 at the El Corral bookstore. I definitely recommend this course as a support course to anybody in the college of ag.

I LOVE DR. B! She is so nice and pleasant. She presents the material in a very straight-forward, and this was the only class/lab I actually looked forward to all quarter. She wants her students to do well, cares about people, and is a no-nonsense woman. If you get the chance, TAKE DR. B! This class will lower your blood pressure, cows are calm, she is calm, the material is straight-forward. You study, you do well, she never pulls a fast-one on anyone. TAKE DR. B!

I absolutely adored Dr. Berning. She is a very kind lady and knew the material she was teaching very well. The grade in her class is based almost completely on the two midterms and the final. There was a lot of material on all of the tests but it is not too difficult if you take the time to study. The labs were all super fun and engaging. I highly recommend this course.

She's has good intentions but she also has favorites. I was on her good side the whole quarter but I felt bad for those who weren't. She can get moody at times too and it really doesn't help that all her jokes were cow sex related. I guess that is the class I signed up for though! On the other side, Dr. Berning really wants everyone to do well in her class so even though I bombed her first midterm, it wasn't very difficult to bump by grade up. Lastly, go to her office hours! IF you're lucky, she has baked goods she'll offer you to try!

Dr. Berning is the best professor on campus. She knows exactly what she is talking about and conveys it to the class very well. She always checks for understanding and is very helpful when you dont understand something. There are only three midterms that are not cumulative and very straight forward. If you have a free elective and like cows, please take this class, you wont be dissappointed!

Certainly the best, most knowledgeable professor Ive had so far! The only class I never wanted to ditch. Most labs are fun and Dr. B truly works her best to answer questions! She exhibits excellent instruction in lecture. She goes through each and every scantron to make sure that no erased marks get graded, and then goes through the effort to write your score down and staple the corner over to ensure privacy, and gets things graded fast!! I have never seen a professor this dedicated and proactive about grading before. She has inspired me to explore more fields in agriculture and is certainly an incredible human!! Even if you aren't CAFES, use a free unit in DSCI with Dr. B!!!

Dr. B is incredible!! She cares for her students, teaches with passion, and expects a lot but is very clear with what she requires! She wants to see you succeed and this is definitely one of my (if not my only!) favorite classes so far. Tip: Go to her office hours when you can! She usually bakes things and loves to talk to students about her journey as well as any questions you might have! Awesome Class

Dr. B is my favorite teacher at Cal Poly so far. She was so helpful and caring when you had questions and is very educated in the Dairy Industry. It was easy to get a good grade as long as you go to the lectures and take notes. She gives an easy fill in packet for the class that really helps to remember the important stuff. Truly loved it and had fun playing with the cows.

Dr. B!!! I came into this class thinking it was going to be an easy-ish A. I WAS SO WRONG. I worked my butt off and barely got a B. That being said, I would definitely take her class again. I had no previous knowledge about large animals, let alone dairy cattle. Dr. B really cares about her students and helped me figure out the best way to study for midterms. (No homework, but exams were tough). Pro tip: ask questions and go to office hours because she will remember you.

Dr. B is hands down the absolute best professor I've had at cal poly EVER. She is super knowledgeable about dairy science and makes every effort to ensure that her students understand the material. I purposely take every class with her that I possibly can. This class does have a lot of material to be learned, but she takes the time before midterms to let students ask any questions about stuff they're unclear on. There's no homework, but there are a few quizzes. Also, she uses like "notebooks" instead of textbooks so there's not a lot of fluff to read that you don't even need to know. It's very straightforward. I didn't know how interested I was in dairy science until I took my first course with her. TAKE HER CLASSES!

Dr. Berning was incredible! I took this class because it sounded better than my other options and I LOVED it! I want take another dairy class as a result. The labs are fun and the lectures are interesting. Her tests are all multiple choice, basically three mid-terms (the final isn't cummulative) and if you study, they aren't bad at all. She gives you lots of hints too, telling you almost exactly what will be on them. I would highly recommend this class and professor to anyone!!!

Take this class! I was concerned about taking a dairy course because I came from a non-agricultural background but was so glad that I did. Professor Berning is an all-around great teacher and is passionate about what she teaches. There is no homework aside from studying for the two mid-terms and the final (Worth 100 points each). The other 50 points come from showing up to lab which is informative, enjoyable, and is usually called early. She is entertaining enough to keep students awake during class and you will leave feeling that you learned a lot about the dairy business. Her class is not challenging and is a unique experience that is not offered at most schools. She is willing to answer any questions at office hours and truly cares about her students.

Dr. Berning was one of the best professors I've had at Cal Poly. She does expect a lot from her students, but she does a great job of presenting the material, and she's very clear about what's going to be on the exams. She's extremely organized and straightforward. I would suggest keeping up with the material, because there is a lot of it and it can get deep pretty damn quick. We had two midterms and the final, plus quite a few quizzes (she lets you keep your 3 best scores). Overall, she's kind of tough, but very fair, and a really great person as well. I would absolutely take her again.

I just wanted to take the time to add to the accolades for Dr. Berning. Not only does she know her material and how to present it, but she believes her students can handle the material and has the very rare quality of making you feel brilliant even if you've made a some mistakes.

This class is very interesting if you want to do anything with cows. There is a plithera of material presented and it is very detaied. She does a good job of explaining the material and if you ask questions she will help a lot. She is has a bundle of knowledge to share. DO NOT fall behind. Study a lot. The two tests are essay and need to be answered with as much detail as possible. She gives about 6 quizes that are mostly short answer and drops the lowest. There is an optional final that is scantron. Heard it was hard but did not take it. I would take this class again if I had to take a physiology class again. But, I would say that the difficulty of this class is more like a 400 or 500 level class.
