Dr. Grieve may be the best teacher I've had at Cal Poly so far - she's personable, realistic, and all-around a nice person. She knows her English and she'll make the assignments actually worth your while! 100% recommendation for taking this class!

Dr. Grieve is a really solid English professor and I'd definitely recommend taking her. I had her in her first quarter at Poly and she rocked it. She was fair, funny, and connected really well with the class. She made one of my least favorite subjects bearable.

Grieve was THE BEST. I absolutely hate English however this ended up being my favorite class because she's so damn cool! She was very clear and fair about her expectations for us as students. She also lets you revise your work so you actually learn and improve your writing. She is extremely welcoming and helpful in office hours for anything you need. TAKE GRIEVE especially because ENG 134 is so annoying naturally.

Dr. Grieve is an amazing professor! She is extremely helpful when you go to office hours and gives every student multiple chances to improve their essays/grades. She makes class interactive and explains things well, but sometimes the prompts for her essays can be unclear. However she will definitely take the time to help you out if you are confused. She is a great professor and person, so much so that I chose to be in her class again for a different ENGL class!

Dr. Grieve did a wonderful job teaching ENGL 145. I went in to this class thinking it was just going to be another GE that I didnt want to take. I didn't actively try to gain anything from this class but somehow she still managed to convey the material. Sometimes in class busy work got a little boring and more partner work, and less class discussion than I would've liked. She is understanding, helpful, and very well rounded in her field. Can be a tough grader, which means your essays better be sharp. Overall highly recommend her!

Honestly one of the best professors I've had, she's super approachable and helpful in office hours. There were no midterms or finals for this class, and she didn't give out very much homework, but she is a pretty hard grader.

Professor Grieve is the best! Super relatable and just an awesome person. I do not enjoy writing, but she made the class entertaining and bearable. I got an A in her class but I worked hard and went to office hours often. I highly recommend her for ENGL 145- go to her office hours and turn everything in and you will be just fine.

IF YOU LOVE ENGLISH, might as well take this class, you'll like just about any english class you take IF YOU LOATH/DO NOT LIKE ENGLISH, AVOID!, not worth your time or energy; essays are vague and she will rip your paper apart (figuratively, not litterally); class can cripple your gpa and bore you to tears. If you do choose to take class, enjoy!

Best professor at cal poly and an even better person. SO understanding and makes her class very engaging and fun she listens to her students. Be aware she grades hard though so if you struggle with English go to her office hours and get the help you need to get a good grade. Do the homework and write your essays early and go to office hours and you will do good

Some professors are clearly BORN to teach, and this is definitely the case with Dr.Grieve! Not only is she probably the nicest professor I've ever had, she was also extremely helpful and fair with grading. Hands down one of my favorite classes/professors at Cal Poly. Wish I were an English major so I could take more classes with her.

Dr. Grieve is a super nice lady for sure. 85% of your grade in her 145 class will be based on your 3 essays, so if you don't feel confident in your writing you might want to take a teacher who gives some quizzes/exams/homework as supplement to your grade. She is very willing to help you out in office hours and refine your ideas for your papers. I would not say she is an "easy grader" but if you put in the effort you can get a good grade. Make sure you do the rough drafts for peer review because it is only helpful if you have an actual paper for your classmates to read. I made the mistake of just giving them an outline to look over and I definitely didn't get the full benefits of peer review. Overall, I would recommend taking Dr. Grieve!!

She is a good professor, but I think getting an A is too difficult. B shouldn't be hard to obtain, but unless you are a rockstar writer, this class won't be an A or A- for you.

This is a writing-heavy class. If you do not like to write essays and are not good at writing, this is not the class for you. 85% of the class is based on 3 essays. Dr. Grieve is super nice, she is the type of teacher you would actually want to hang out with. There are a lot of little requirements that are easy to miss, but no memorization or tests which is nice. You'll be stressed the 3 nights before you essay deadlines but otherwise you'll coast

Such an awesome teacher. Dr. Grieve really knows her stuff, and more importantly knows how to teach a class. One of the greatest skills of a teacher is to know how much control of a classroom to give to students. She gave us freedom to work with groups to review our essays, discuss different topics, and work on fun assignments. Through this course I was able to learn how to write better argumentative essays and also how to better prepare for an essay.

Dr.Grieve is seriously one of the best professors I have ever had. She is friendly, helpful, understanding, and overall enjoyable to be around. I took this class to fulfill the GWR requirement when it was her first quarter. She gave us plenty of time to complete assignments and extended them if she felt we needed it. I went to office hours all the time just to get simple questions answered and she was beyond helpful. I actually learned a lot from the paper assignments and they didn't feel like random busy work. They all related to one another and had to do with the final project. We were able to pick whatever we wanted to write about and I loved my topic so much it was actually fun to do. And at the end of it, you have a portfolio to take to job interviews! I seriously wish she taught every class. I recommend her for the GWR for sure!!

Dr. Grieve is one of the nicest and most understanding professors I have had at Cal Poly! The English 302 class for the GWR sounded like it would be super boring, but she really does her best to make sure you get something out of it. The assignments are made to go along with your major and you can even try to cross them over with an assignment for another class if it works for you. She is really fair in terms of assignments and grading and has the students best interest in mind. I would highly recommend her for this class!!

She's very organized and clear on what she wants you to do. She thoroughly explains and repeats what's due and when. She's easy to talk to and seems to care about students. She's flexible when you make a mistake or have a special request. The class was super interactive so I was totally engaged the whole time. The homework was a lot, but manageable because I already love writing. She allows you to take notes on your computer, which I like, but I found that I rarely used my computer since most of the class was discussions or activities. She’s a fair grader. I don't feel like I learned anything because if you know how to write well then there's no new information, you're just practicing writing a lot.

This class is mostly based around writing essays. However, Dr. Grieve allows a lot of freedom to choose what you write about. Most of your grade is based around 3 big essay projects: one is a rhetorical analyses, the second is a ted talk/podcast, and the third is a portfolio of essays of your choice. The book we read was one of my favorite books I've had to read for a class. Highly recommend this class if you need to take the GWR or if you just want to improve your writing. Dr. Grieve is very helpful, supportive, and offers a lot of opportunities for students to ask for help.
