Andrews, Amelia  

The format of this class was bizarre, and her final is impossible to ace. First of all, 50% of your grade is based off of modules-- quizzes on various topics relating to California government. They're easy enough to do well on, since you have the internet to look up answers. However, that leaves 50% of your grade relying on the final, a test that is pure fuckery. She claims that the final questions are taken from the modules, but the modules are actually questions that are randomized for each individual student, so there is no way to actually study and prepare for the same shit on the final. Which is fucked, right? Anyways, if you're taking this class, it's probably because you only need one credit to fulfill the GE requirement, but just be prepared to deal with some bullshit, because myself and a lot of other students had easy A's until we got fucked by the final (which also happens to be 100 questions in 50 minutes).

Much of this class was online so I never really had the chance to be taught by her directly, but from the short moments I did have with her she seemed pretty understanding and willing to answer questions. She was open for office hours. Personally, I think this class was more work than it should’ve been, but if you make sure to pace yourself on reading everything in the book and making study guides (not just doing the quizzes), you should get a good grade on the final.

This was a weird class. It was rather disorganized, and the first half was hour long lectures in the 2 hour time span (we were let out early) just hearing someone talk about Politics, then the second half of the quarter was hearing someone just talk about politics really fast because we were pretty behind. People in this class didn't know that the US has a 3 branch government, which is embarrassing. It basically is government 101, and probably covers what you learned in 8th grade. The exams were all copied from quizlets freely available on line, so everyone did really well. All in all I feel like I learned nothing, got an easy A, and had an OK time. Professor Andrews is a great person, but man was the class disorganized. I'd much rather sit down and talk politics with her than take another class. But hey, I'll also take the free 4.0.

Dr. Andrews is an AWESOME person and her class was relatively easy to pass. Her quizzes/tests are all online and you can work in groups and use resources. This was her first quarter teaching at Cal Poly and she over whelmed her students with her assignments but was super understanding and willing to extend deadlines when it was clear that students were confused or could not find the time to finish the assignment. Lectures are interesting if this is the field that you're interested in but you really don't need to pay attention to them in order to pass the quizzes/tests. She also gives study guides for the midterms/finals. Overall an easy A.

Dr. Andrews is interesting and clearly cares a lot about her subject, but she often was unorganized and we got behind a lot. The main assessment for the class was a group project that could have been explained better because it was very difficult and confusing. There wasn't much reason to go to class or take notes, because we never got tested on any of the lecture material. She gave us way too many pointless busy work assignments in my opinion. She took attendance for a small amount of points and it affected how much extra credit you could get. She did give a lot of opportunity for extra credit and ended up grading pretty easily.

Dr. Andrews is extremely intelligent and knows exactly what she is talking about. She did seem to suffer from the fact that this was an entry level class and that she was almost too smart for her students sometimes. She was very informed about her subject area and I would consider her an expert in research. POLS 180 is a very open class and the point is to learn about research and have other content as a supplement so your professor really controls a lot of how the class is structured. Every one of my peers that I have talked has had a different POLS 180 structure. Dr. Andrews was very disorganized in the way she set up her class. She changed the reading schedule many times because the class did not move fast enough. I would say that sometimes it was the class's fault for not moving on but also sometimes her fault for not forcing the class to move quicker through the content we needed to get through. While she was disorganized, I do believe that she was this way partly because she was pregnant and not allowed her ADHD medication, so I felt for her and gave her a pass in that regard. Dr. Andrews set up the class as assigned readings due each class and you would have to complete a ~200 word discussion question based on the reading. There was no midterm, tests, or final in this class. Instead there was an article critique as a midterm and a literature review as a final. The article critique was around 850 words and was not too difficult to complete as it was an individual assignment. The lit review on the other hand was a beast. It was a group project that ended up being around 3000 words. It was difficult because the expectations were very high and often unclear about what to do as she was weary to show us any examples. Group projects are also just difficult, but that's the case with all classes. Dr. Andrews also said on the first day of class that she gives "an almost unethical amount of extra credit" which ended up being true; I got nearly 7%. This class was easy if you participate actively in class, do all extra credit, and put effort in your article critique and lit review. This class did cause me a ton of stress due to the massive organization problems, but I have a ton of respect for Dr. Andrews and found her young perspective refreshing compared to my other professors. She also is very easy to approach in office hours and swears often.

I think we probably need to give Dr. Andrews a pass, because she had a rough quarter in her personal life, but there were days where she was all over the place. It was very theory intensive, and she would only lecture for the full two hours without giving any breaks. I think she cares a lot, and she's obviously brilliant, so I think without the distractions, the class would have made more sense, but it was rough. There is a group project at the end, and your group is assigned, and it's worth 70% of your grade, so definitely be proactive about doing the work. Overall, okay class, but definitely not straightforward or clearly presented.

I really loved Professor Andrews. She can be somewhat sporadic when it comes to presenting material and very energetic throughout lectures, however she is great at clarification and working with students if material or even deadlines become problematic. She is always available for questions and honestly wants her students to succeed in class as well as future endeavors through Political Science. I highly recommend taking a class with Professor Andrews as she is personable, entertaining, and a brilliant instructor.

The class was alright, I really did not learn anything new and now I'm really lost in 361, take a good teacher so 361 makes sense

What else is there to say? Fine person, nothing interesting. Class was meh... Blah, blah, blah... Fine person.
