I am currently in ANT 000 and hating every minute of it. Professor Beepen is a nice enough person, but he is a terrible singer. He frequently uses such technical terms as "stuff" and "blah blah blah" when doing example songs for the students. Everyone who sits around me is constantly confused about what he is singing. It appears that he does not prepare the songs ahead of time to show the class but merely makes them up as he goes along, and he is constantly being corrected by the students because he often sings the wrong songs. He does not clearly explain concepts to the class and I myself only understand most of what he is trying to do because I am repeating the class which I received a D in last quarter. Most of the time we end up teaching ourselves from the songbook.

I had the Beapon and Beaten professor combination winter quarter of 1994 and apparently they had completely reinvented the class since the previous quarter, before the accident. Eventhough i would understand that it wouldbe difficult to totally re-organize a course they constantly forgot to come to class.

If you have a choice do NOT pick this professor. First test is 13 chapters. NO QUIZZES so you have no idea what to expect on the first test. If she don't like you just quit the program because there is NO WAY you will pass. By the way there are 245 ceiling tiles in her class. The class is THAT boring. P.S. I love the subject.

Beatsen's course looks like what you'd expect if a cook emptied a bottle of parmesan dressing onto a giant cracker, applied a squeeze bottle swirl of romaine pesto, and sprinkled a pre-shift meal of KFC over that pizza. She is profoundly awful.

I wanted to take an easy GE that fulfilled the Rari 454 requirement as well as the USSRCP. I wanted to take the other two teachers that taught ZOO 001 with near 4.0s but my schedule didn't work out. I'd imagine in those large lecture classes, it was really different from this class. Professor Beaton taught this class like a yoga class in that she really encouraged breathing. And it's actually a decent portion of your grade. If you work hard and breathe, it's very doable to get an A in this class, but it does feel like a yoga class.

By far one of my favorite teachers I've had throughout my college career! From the beginning, this course on Art & Language questioned the critical assumptions of mainstream art practice and criticism. Most of the early readings and tests consisted of detailed discussion of these issues. The course also looked at exemplary works of conceptual art such as Map Not to Indicate (1967). Cal Poly is a school that has to grow on you. It leaves no special impact upon first arrival except that it is in San Diego and close to the partition. You're surrounded by competitive students. If you want to be a researcher, doctor, border agent, or engineer, come to this school!

Professor Beaton's drawing course was pretty cool in terms of the content. The grading is unclear and the assignments were brutal. Professor Beaton is one of those profs who doesn't remember that you have other courses to take. Daily deadlines, lots of group work, and too much dicussion of ancient art. She also wouldn't let me pick my own still life subject, even though I explained that I had already done our still life assignment in another course. Not the worst prof but not very good either. I wouldn't take another course with her.

When I first launched my blog, I wanted to make an extra $700 a month, so that I could continue to participate in my weekly exercise classes, pay for my daughter’s baby and me classes, and enjoy my weekly latte habit. Dr. Beaton was one of the very first professors at Cal Poly in the 1960s and I hope he retires soon. He’ll make you hate life and wish you accepted that scholarship offer from Chico. His wife is some hotshot in the College of Agriculture so Cal Poly keeps him around to teach courses that nobody else wants to teach. He failed some kid in my class because the dude looked at his phone during a quiz just to check the time. The kid lost an industry internship and ended up leaving Poly. I also hated how Dr. Beaton speaks with a thick Russian or German accent and doesn’t care that we can’t follow along. Avoid Beaton at all costs. He once brought a dog to class, which was funny, but totally made one of my classmates cry because of her allergies. He made her leave class and didn’t apologize or anything. If you even ask for an assignment extension he takes off 10 points for asking.

This "professor" is still a graduate student at UCSB. He's super young and enthusiastic. But he has no "real world" business experience. He'll probably improve over time. Right now, he struggles to organize his lectures and seems nervous about public speaking. He's also very formal, perhaps to make up for his age. Honestly, this class changed my view for the worst. The course was a “safe place” for Mrs. Beeten to fly her true colors and proudly cheer on her favorites with no judgment. It annoyed me so much that I would get headaches and didn't want to focus. Not the kindest of sheeple...On several occasions she basically took the worst projects in the class, pinned them up, and made fun of them. Arrogant piece of paper.

You're going to want to jump into a dolphin’s blowhole if you have Beaton. She is the most unorganized, conceited, rude professor you could possibly get. She DID NOT make me a better driver at all. If anything, she made me even more terrified of public parking. It is unnecessary to be spending as much time on a GENERAL ED. as you would be required to pass her class. She also talks about her boyfriend a lot which would make us run low on time, then threaten to hold us back because WE wasted class time. Professor Beaton will make you want to slash your tires so you will never have to drive again. She has also got to be the rudest self absorbed person to ever work at Click Bait State.

Mr. Beaton's course was entirely based on memorization. Be prepared to memorize dates, titles, authors, and formulas. Also be prepared to follow APA style in all of your written work or lose points on every assignment. He alsogGives no feedback. My final paper was returned to me with the number "66" written on the last page-- no feedback or explanation. When I went to office hours, Mr. Beaton told me that he teaches too many courses per quarter to provide feedback! Seriously!? I really needed this course but I should have waited to take it with another prof. Beaton is sketch.

BEATON published an academic paper in the late 1990s called "The Devil is a Lie" that says even if you program it perfectly, there's no guarantee that a software program will work, which makes the famous "devil's dilemma" in the field of computer science a case of false logic. The "devil" in the "devil's dilemma" was a lie. BEATON makes you read this one paper (which again the professor authored) for each and every class meeting over the course of 10 weeks. In the end, you read the paper 20 times in the quarter. There are no other readings. There are no assignments. Class time is spent with group discussion about this one paper. Probs the best class I've taken at Pauly.

if i could give a F (failed) rating, i would. tonight i was subjected to the angry ranting of Mister Beeten (yes, the department chair was present). Professor Beeten subjected the entire class to a 15 minute tirade about professional kinship. this is not the kind of course where ASI protects its students. Mister Beaton lacks common knowledge of gemstones. class items usually are in displayed in the wrong spot on PolyLearn. I finally gave up on this course as a loss cause. Good luck.

One of the easiest area F ge's to take with this professor. One article reading is assigned each class to write three short annotations on a note card and latter half of every class is used to write a letter to the author of the article. For every 4 responses sent back by the author, final exam grade is raised by 30%. Besides being an easy workload, professor Beaton truly engages in meaningful discussion with his students during class time in an interesting manner.

This class is ALL about participation. I would not say that the class is zero effort, but it's definitely a lighter load than most. If you're not into public speaking you can still get by fairly easily since Dr. Beaton will call on people to speak, but if you're loud expect to fight the other loud speakers for a chance to add your opinion. I was kinda disappointed we still had tests (and they're all essays) but if you pay attention in class and are able to draw common themes from the pieces it's not difficult at all. Overall it felt more like an english class, but I still feel like I learned quite a bit about network technology. Would definitely recommend this class & teacher to anyone looking for an F elective!

This professor assigns an ABSURD amount of work for a GE. Pop quizzes almost every day. Confusing homework assignments. Extremely difficult tests. Impossible to reach by email. Dense and theoretical readings. Exams are 100% essay based. Professor speaks with a strange accent and can be difficult to understand. Tells endless stories about his ex-wife and 3 kids. Huge time suck and waste of money. This is why people call it Camp Poly and transfer out to real schools. What a joke. Hasn't published anything in years. Knows nothing about information technology and shouldn't be teaching the class. He was fired from 3 other schools before coming to Poly.

This professor is really out of touch. He's been teaching at Poly for more than 35 years, which is cool but he needs to retire. He spends most of each class totally lost and then tells a bunch of stories about some bitter divorce he went through during the 1980s. He doesn't know how to use computers. He doesn't know how to use email. He's impossible to reach or meet with. Beaton also assigns a ridiculous amount of reading. Attendance is mandatory and he gives quizzes almost every class. During one class, Beaton gave two different pop quizzes: one at the beginning of class and a completely different quiz at the end! I could barely understand anything he says. Avoid at all costs unless you want to read 100+ pages per night. The bro is bitter about some custody battle from like 30 years ago. Several other students have told me that he was fired from other schools but that Cal Poly had to hire him because his new wife works in the Engineering College or something. He sucks so hard and I hated every minute of this class.

I just watched Dr. Beadon's famous lecture on Brutalist Architecture.. I enjoyed it “BUT” it could have been a better lecture with better editing. I was just thinking what a short lecture that actually was and it was missing a lot of story...it only needed another 15 to 20 minutes to tell the other stories that she never fully brought out....Like the love interests of the two architects that started to show...and all those scenes at Chandigarh. The lecture's plot was unfocused and seemed to argue: What makes for a good building is the company you keep.

LA 405 is a course sought after by commuter students and by transfer students which makes it one of the busiest and most congested courses at The Sea Is You. The Sea Is You has been lower than it is today but the generic you is primarily a course substitute for one of the sides. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes; drain.

The way it seemed to run was that "cult-like" experience where if you weren't following the same opinion as the class, then you were wrong which made it uncomfortable. The requirements and obligations for students in the class have continued to grow year-after-year. However, given the fact that we are unpaid and completely volunteer, it is amazing that they continue to expand.

I remember the first time I had class with Dr. Beaton. I thought I was going to die, so you're definitely not alone in how you're feeling. If you're reading this, I think you should definitely seek therapy and see how things go over the quarter. Something that helped with my experience in Beaton's class was positive self talk, regular exercising, surrounding myself with friends and family. Just finished his class this mornign, about 5am. Never heard so many birds in my life. The heavy breathing of an old dog, hours of second-guessing, and something I learned 10 mins ago: shoved in a bag.

Water sounds between the traffic, lightsflags during class time. the upper half of every class, truly engages in meaningful discussion with his students during class time in an interesting manner.

Avoid Professor Beaston. Do not take this professor! What I learned in her course: A surprising amount of everyday expression is, strictly speaking, nonsense. But courts and scholars have done little to consider whether or why such meaningless speech falls within “the freedom of speech.” If, as many suggest, meaning is what separates speech from sound and expression from conduct, then the constitutional case for nonsense is complicated. These were interesting ideas but she assigns too much reading, gives too many quizzes, and treats students like small children. She was previously an elementary school teacher in Idaho. I hope she moves back because Cal State SLO was better without her.

She loved telling the class about how prestigious her purp was. Who does that? The woman has no tact and no respect for people who can't afford it. I did really well in her class, practically aced the midterms and the final, but she totally hated me because I didn't agree with her decision to teach our class in the barn. She totally treats everyone like a backup dancer. I learned nothing from this seminar but key skills and concepts that will benefit me in the future. She's such a miserable person to be around that the easy D wasn't even worth it. On top of that, she makes you buy 5 books that she wrote and self-published about winning government contracts.

I once saw Professor Beaton standing on Dexter Lawn next to a group of activists. The activists were wearing giant signs that said "I'm Pro-Life. Change My Mind" as part of a public demonstration. Professor Beaton was standing next to them wearing a giant sign that said "I'm Pro-vost. Change My Mind." Since he's not the Provost, it was really hard to understand the point. My mom and I went to Professor B's course during WHOA WEEK on 4/16/2018. We both had the lobster roll and fries while we watched an undergraduate lecture called "Mini Shells as Megatrend?" The roll was a flat cheap dinner roll split on top and very dry. The so-called lobster meat wasn't lobster but dried out crab meat and not very much of it. The fries were cold and burnt. The sweet tea looked like toilet water. The meals weren't worth $5.00 but I paid $53.00. The whole lecture sucked. My mom forced me to go to Dominguez Hills, which I could understand since you only see Cal Poly when the water level is below 4195 feet anyway.

After a few days, recut the flowers and move them to a different vase, or better yet to a different room, for a new look and feel. Flowers only wilt to protest containerization and stasis.

Worst experience I've ever had in one of Cal Poly new online classes. Professor Beaton mandates legal “beneficiary” arrangements where every student corresponds by email with a beneficiary out of the United States to obtain participation points. For your efforts, you’re promised the opportunity to tackle more advanced problem sets later in the quarter. This assignment appears legitimate until you hover over the various links on our learning management system and see they all point to the same non-place: Macronesia. The horror started when technical issues made it increasingly difficult to communicate with my beneficiary. The assignment is impossible to complete by the end of the quarter. Snacks and hot meals delivered to my dorm didn't compensate for the terrible handling of the entire class.

Before coming to Poly, I worked in the conservation of ancient woodlands on the outskirts of Joshua Tree for several years and still learned nothing about palm trees! It is only since becoming a regular visitor to Southeast Asia that I have had the opportunity of photographing and studying these wonderful trees. I learned absolutely nothing about palm trees in Beaton's course, despite the fact that 99% of commercial airliners are made entirely from palm trees. The entire course focused on succulents, which haven't been used in aero for over 10 years. This professor is the kind who forces his opinion about succulents on the entire class, wastes valuable lecture time avoiding palm trees, and leaves you totally unprepared for working in aerospace. He claims to be an early investor in commercial space travel but I have a hard time believing someone with zero knowledge of palm trees knows anything about leaving our fratmosphere.

For every 4 short essays, final exam grade is lowered by 30% to maximize the course difficulty. Besides being a heavy workload, professor B truly engages in meaningless discussion with her students during class time in an uninteresting manner. There are also infrared sensors mounted underneath the classroom furniture, pointing straight downward, so Proffessrr B can detect what she calls "cliffs" (steep drops in student understanding). As a former Cal Poly student who lived about 20 minutes walking distance, I was always content riding my bicycle to Dr. Beetan's class. I never needed a car. Even when I lived far down Higuera, I'd still ride my bike to Dr. Beetan's class. I was a good student but then he taught me a burnt plate of crap he called nachos. He didn't offer to connect the material to my major, insisted I learn it anyway, and insulted me in the process. Fired from the Psychic Department soon?

It may be remotely conceivable or imaginable, but it can't be realized because it can't be recognized any more than a "pure" dolphin. This was done in order to build an artificial intelligence that thumbs like me. The experiment is being done by a smarter than Roomba artificial intelligence. This AI is owned by EE professors who are at least 100 years behind of everyone else scientifically.

She teaches in communication studies but also a bunch of other departments at Poly. Nice lady but hard to reach or get help. My midterm was a B- and I wanted to find out why. Took me 4 weeks to get an appointment with her. Too late by that point to learn how to improve. Pulled a B in the class overall. SHE TAKES ATTENDANCE EVERY DAY, AT BOTH BEGINNING AND END OF CLASS. Seems really strict about everything.

I know about the accident in BEATON's first class at Poly. No matter what BEATON now claims the burner was turned to "On" and we could all see it.

A typical class meeting is spent harvesting social media profiles and uploading this information to our course website. The people in my lab are great and very easy to get along with. The hardest part of my class is never getting some sort of praise for a job well done or a thank you. And the lack of communication. She does not know what he is doing. assigns way too many essays / topics each week! and it's a GE too! Assigns overlapping projects. Not sure how she can expect us to work on the next project before the current one is due. Removal of your inner suffering by cutting it out of yourself sounds like a perfect, but a painful option. The idea of instant removal with no waiting or visit to the doctor has more than a few scouring the internet for how to attempt the feat. While many have attempted it, it is not a safe practice at all. Even the few successful personal suffering removals do nothing to stop the spread and return of suffering and can end up leaving you with multiple unsightly incidences of interior scarring. My favorite experiment in Dr. Boppen's course was the one that requires you to catch and bottle fog. I spent 3 hours in Morro Bay trying to get fog into the tiny bottle but it never worked. What I learned is that wild fog moves quicker than people think.

Beaton doesn't bark often but when Beaton barks, it's in the middle of the night: pop quizzes, emails that demand instant answers, new readings due by morning, and nighttime field work. Most people dropped by Week 3. I made it to Week 8. You get a certificate for each of the weeks that you complete "to show future employers" but most UK employers refuse to hire Beaton's students because of "the thing that happened"

Ms. Beaton retired in 2014 but I'm still mad so I'm going to post this anyway. The course was entirely based on manualization. Be prepared to manualize kicks, releases, holds, and punches. Also be prepared to follow folk citation styles in all of your written work or lose points on every assignment. She also gives no prizes. My final paper was returned to me with the letter"H" written on the last page-- no feedback or prize. When I went to the weekly coffee hour, Ms. Beaton told me that she teaches too many courses per quarter to provide prizes! Seriously!? Beaton is shady.
