Shes new and has no idea what she is doing teaching-wise. she is a genius though so if you need help regarding your career in sustainable and renewable energy then make friends with her. but this class had no structure and i almost failed since the random lecture notes give you no insight for all the exams. I got D's on all the exams and participated my way to a B.

Professor Chiu is a new professor and her NR 142 was based off power point lectures. Her class organization was scattered and we got bits and pieces of everything, from Global consumption to water sheds. Due to the broad topics in class, her test questions were difficult to predict and study for. However, she is genuinely a caring teachers who tries to help her student if they shoot her an email or go to office hours.

Dr. Chiu's class is confusing, to say the least. The whole class is based on powerpoints with scattered information and I still don't understand how all the concepts we learned connect to each other. Midterm and Final are very hard to prepare for and fairly confusing, but also a lot of common sense. Passing is not hard, but understanding is. The group project is probably the best part of this class. You get to create and conduct your own field study regarding students and sustainability. It's 40% of your grade and fairly graded, so it can make or break you. Random participation points make up 10% of your grade, so while it may be tempting to ditch, don't do it. So while this class may not be hard, you still won't have a clue as to what's going on during week 10...

This class was so terrible. I was really looking forward to taking an environmental science class and learn about sustainability but this class completely failed all the hopes I had for it. Professor Chiu is definitely knowledgable in the subject matter but presents it in the most dry and unclear way. I stopped going to class after week one and maybe went five times the whole quarter. She has this group project at the end of the quarter that is like 25% of your grade along with a midterm and a final. I somehow managed to get a B+ in this class even though I learned nothing. The midterm and final were alright but she graded the project so easily it definitely brought most people's grade up. Definitely don't take this class. it sucks and is a huge waste of time and its only three units anyway.

I learned that if I were to take up hunting, I should shoot deer, not bears, because a bear will hunt me back if I successfully wound it. Fascinating! I didnt know that the key to production and operations management was so brutally simple!

Dr. Chiu fails to be helpful in any classroom setting. She is not clear about instructions and thinks that students in her intro class should have a professional knowledge of the subject (GIS). This was supposed to be an interesting, 3 unit class not a demanding class from hell that you do not want to show up to. I understand Dr. Chiu is a new professor and could change her style, but take the other GIS professor, you will not regret it.

I love Dr Chiu! If you go to her office hours she's super personable and great to talk to. Midterm and final are off the slides so if you pay attention in lecture, go to class, and study the slide really hard you'll do fine!
