The other responses on this page need to be updated so that's what I'll do. Benedict has a clear understanding of the computer courses he teaches (now labled ARCH 124 125 126 and 127)...just look at his hundred plus page syllabus. He is organized to the point it would make one sick, which makes his lectures move very smoothly. He uses a microphone to speak to the class so he is not hard to understand nor too quiet. Lab hours are now more reasonable and it is now possible to print in color at the lab. You do NOT need to buy the programs or ink cartridges or special paper. These courses only cost me the 20 cents per page it costs to print in the lab. Benedict is a very understanding teacher...alway willing to help if asked a question.

As much as I love computers and graphics programs, I don't think 131, 132, and 133 were a very good idea. For the difficulty in course material--different versions of programs, Benedicts' learning along with us, etc.--I wish I could have just taken 111,112, and 113. Benedict is probably the best instructor to take for this series, because he gives the tutorial. He is very understanding of computer and printer problems, and lets you turn in late work, unlike some other teachers. He's really nice one-on one and willing to give you lots of feedback. What he really wants of his first-year students is cookie-cutter projects with a little creativity, but you come out with a good knowledge of design principles and ordering systems and color--stuff you use in 2nd year. If you don't have $300 to spend on Photoshop, $100 on Dreamweaver, $100 on Freehand, $100 on Form Z, $100 on a Zip drive, and more $ on special paper, ink cartridges, extra zip disks, etc, then don't take this class. The lab's hours are VERY limited and you can't print color in there. I say just tke 111, 112, 113!!! Save some money!!!

I think Benedict is very knowledgable and knows what he is talking about. The only problem might be that he is in the continual process of experimentation with his coursework, thus the students might have to suffer through slight revisions in what is supposed to happen. He is very good at offering suggestions to help the student improve. Like any class, just do the work on a reasonable schedule, and it isnt too difficult.

Benedict really is a good teacher. Be prepared to spend a lot of time working on projects outside of class, but if you are an arch major you'd better get used to that anyway. He is very approachable and is willing to help. Although he is not at all an easy grader, you can resubmit projects and drawings to get a better grade. Recommended.

BENNY! thats what we called Benedict.. but we address him as Will. I must admit Benedict was very intimidating to begin with, but you begin to warm up to him. For me it was like winter quarter. D'oh. But definitely, definitely, NO REGRETS taking Will. He wrote the damn syllabus for goodness sake. That must tell you how well qualified he is to teach ARCH 130 series. He's a tough grader and a tough critiquer, but in the end he's the best. He has this personality though thats hard to break through and just be comfortable with. Eh. So I definitely recommend him even if he is tougher than the other professors. Its worth it in the long run.

will as we called him is awesome. he knows his stuff and you deffinitly will too at the end of the year. do your work on time and you should be fine. dont be like me, because then you will be pulling at least 5 all nighters a quarter. this class is a lot of fun, and although benedict seems scary at first you will warm up to him. by the middle oof the year i had him laughing when i hit other kids in the face with banana peels. he also chuckled when i farted really loud in class. all in all, the class is a lot of fun, and you will have a great time getting to know the architecture program as well as a bunch of students and computer programs as well as drafting techniques. no prior abilities are necessary in this class.

I got sick this quarter and he really helped me get through. He's a good professor, but his voice is very quite and therefore he's hard to understand. In a 4 hour lab this makes time go very s l o w l y. You can talk to him and he seems to know you as an individual. He's somewhat personable, not mean or nasty or anything. Just kinda shy it seems.

Benedict is often learning beside the student, but that isn't any surprise in a CAD class. If a student has a problem he'll either answer it or investigate it until he has an answer for you. He's a great guy and appears not to be a very demanding instructor, until you get your grade. This is one of the few times I was surprised to get such a low grade in a class where I could practically produce the work in my sleep. My only recommenation is to ask for periodic grade reports, before it's too late to do anything about it.

William Benedict is unqualified to be an instructor in any capacity in the College of Architecture & Environmental Design. Will is NOT A LICENSED ARCHITECT. Will has (according to him) practiced architecture in Tennessee, Kansas, Texas, and California. A license search for Will in all of those states turned up empty. In all cases, even if Will did hold a license and had let it expire, there would be a record of such. Aside from being professionally unqualified from a licensure standpoint, the bulk of Will
