Glanz, Hunter  

I don't really understand why this professor doesn't have higher polyratings. Dr. Glanz is a really great teacher. I came into STAT 218 with hardly any statistics background knowledge and he made the topics easy to understand and enjoyable. He prepares around a 200 page course packet which i suggest you print because they are all the notes for the entire quarter. They are extremely organized with plenty of explanations and example problems. Every single thing you will ever be quizzed or tested on will come straight from that packet. He’s not out to trick you and his quizzes and tests are extremely fair if you pay attention in class and do all the homework correctly. Every monday there is a simple 15 minute quiz which i usually had no problem getting an A or a B. Plus he drops your lowest quiz grade. He assigns homework on Monday and it’s due the following week. There are 2 exams which aren’t too bad and you even get to bring a one sided sheet of paper with formulas and definitions to it. The first one was much easier than the second however, he gives a ton of partial credit if it looks like you were on the right track. The final was pretty hard but doable. He lets you bring a 2 sided sheet of paper which is a life saver if you have the right stuff on it. Dr. Glanz is really approachable and he really makes an effort to get to know each of his students. I truly believe that Dr. Glanz knows each students abilities and sets his curve so your true ability reflects your overall final grade. He starts off every class asking if anyone has any questions from any of the previous material which I really appreciated. He is also great at explaining things in office hours even though I only went a couple times. He has a lot of patience.. several times a question would be asked multiple times. Instead of getting frustrated, he always takes his time and makes sure everyone understands each concept. I would highly recommend taking Dr. Glanz for stats…he’s been one of my favorites.

Dr. Glanz was great! I went into the class not expecting much since it was his first quarter teaching that particular stats class but he did just fine. He explained the subject material in class and in his typed packet. His tests were extremely fair and only covered material he went over in class, plus he lets you get cheat sheets! Take him!

Excellent professor. Very clear lecturer, clearly understands subject matter and communicates well. Friendly and helpful during office hours. Take him if you can.

Glanz is very organized and straight forward. His lectures are exactly what you need to know and he's probably the best stats teacher for 251. Highly recommend him. His tests are fine since he teaches so well so if you pay attention it is manageable. He is a great teacher especially if you like to be organized and on top of everything. He is super clear on what he expects from his students and is just a great teacher overall. Take him if you can!

Professor Glanz is an extremely nice guy, and truly wants the best for his students. This was the first STAT class that I have ever taken, and I feel like I really did learn a lot from this class. He posts his lecture notes on PolyLearn for you to print out and follow along in class, which made note taking much easier and better. The notes he posts definitely help highlight the important information and what you should be learning from the lectures. I feel that I could explain most to all concepts that I was taught, but I often found his midterms (three of them) difficult. He also has homework quizzes, which are open homework, and online reading quizzes, that you can do with others in the class, which both help boost your grade greatly, so if you bomb a midterm, you are not totally screwed. I recommend going to his office hours if you are not understanding the material because he is quite helpful, and will take the time to explain the problem thoroughly.

Hunter seems like the kind of guy that buys all his ties from Costco.

Dr. Glanz is a pretty good instructor. This was his first quarter teaching, and he certainly got a lot better over the course of the quarter. He gives quizzes and homework weekly. His exams are hard (averages of 65% and 61%) but he curves them, so it's not that bad. He does a good job of presenting concepts clearly, for the most part. He's also helpful in office hours and is super flexible if you're sick or have an appointment or whatever. He's pretty funny sometimes too. Overall, would recommend.

Best. Dressed. Professor. Hunter has his PhD, but his deep knowledge was not that apparent. Make no mistake, he taught the class just fine, but he was never "inspiring." He has a very nice set of class notes that he prepares by the start of the quarter, which are essential to passing the class. The textbook is useless - just read the class notes that he gives you. Quizzes are reasonable, as are exams. He is literally the first professor I've had at Poly that has had tests that are 100% from in-class material...very much appreciated. I wish his lectures weren't as dry so I'd want to go to class more. In truth, you could easily get away with not going to class because his "class notes" (found on PolyLearn) are so good. TAKE HUNTER. You won't regret it.

The class was pretty cool. He starts off most classes with just a fun little graph for everyone to comment on, which may or may not pertain to the lecture. Usually it's just a pretty looking graph that's fairly interesting. Lectures are pretty easy to follow, and the textbook isn't that hard of a read either. You can probably get by in the class by either reading or just attending class. He doesn't take attendance, and all the quizzes/tests will be on the same day of the week each week across the quarter. The tests and quizzes are not terribly difficult, the level of complexity is not beyond that in the book or the examples he goes over in class, so it shouldn't be too difficult. Moreover, if you took AP Stats in high school and have retained any modicum of knowledge from that class, you will do fine in the class probably. The entirety of the quarter was essentially review of AP Stats, and I don't feel like we touched unfamiliar material until Week 8 or 9. He always was helpful in his office hours, and was fairly flexible in his scheduling. Dr. Glanz really loves his stats, but I feel like he gets how not everyone can be as enthusiastic about the class. He tries to spice up the lectures with audience interaction and creating some other examples that aren't from his notes. All in all, I'd recommend taking the class with him, he's a great guy.

He is too interested in being liked by students rather than just teaching the material in a way that is easy to understand. He thinks that what he is saying makes sense when in fact no one knows what is going on. Class is pointless unless you like it when professors hover and try to talk about unrelated topics like the Superbowl. I would not take Stat 330 with him. Extremely harsh grader!

At first I was really worried about taking this class since coding is pretty difficult to me, but Dr. Glanz was always very helpful during class, through email, and in office hours. He lectures using power points and kinda just reads off the slides, but I didn't mind so much since his powerpoints were pretty helpful along with the book. There are MC quizzes at the beginning of each class which are questions straight out of the exercise book and are pretty specific/difficult questions if you didn't do the reading. There is also homework and a lab due every class (twice a week). There is one midterm and a final and both are open notes, book, Internet, everything. I thought the midterm was really difficult, but the final was not as bad. I recommend Dr. Glanz because he's very approachable and helpful and doesn't make it impossible to get a good grade in this class. He also has the most contagious laugh ever.

Glanz never go's into stats. He is very hand off and you must pursue him if you are lost which kinda sucks because he can't read students. If everyone is lost he just kinda sits back and doesn't do much. Basically you could google everything he teaches. If you are taking this then I would take Doi.

Glanz is a great professor! I took R with him and he was super helpful during lab and presented the material very clearly, sometimes it felt a little slow but its better than being too fast. Really cares about his students. Take him if you can

Hunter Glanz is the only reason I like SAS. This man is a god. He understands Leslie Knope memes, and the pink shirts are on point.

Professor Glanz is awesome! He really cares about his students and loves answering questions. He assigns homework and a lab every class and it's due the following class which is a great grade cushion if you it. Overall, he is a great professor! However, HE TEACHES IN THE WRONG ORDER! What do I mean? He assigns homework on material we haven't learned yet, he then quizzes us on that material which we still haven't learned, THEN he lectures about the material. I think this order kinda set us up for failure on the homework and especially the quizzes.

Professor Glanz is honestly such an awesome guy. If you come to him with any sort of problem or lack of understanding, he will do his best to ensure you leave fully comprehending the material. That being said, it's important to note that his style of lecturing is pretty dry, and he only lectures on topics AFTER assigning some readings, homeworks, and quizzes on them, which is the only gripe I have with his class. If you're REALLY interested in the material like I was, Glanz is your man.

Professor Glanz's midterm and final are difficult but fair. He gives everyone time in class to work on assignments as he walks around and helps, which helps with the heavy workload of the class. Even though I didn't get an A, he provided every resource possible to succeed in his class and makes a tough subject much more manageable.

Excellent professor. Very clear lecturer and very helpful in office hours. He teaches R by projecting his code onto each student's screen and running the code line by line. No final, just a fairly easy final project. I would highly recommend Glanz. He makes the class interesting and understands student difficulty. The midterm was challenging but, in the end, it doesn't account for much of the final grade.

What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.
