Chen is the MAN. He is seriously here to help you. People who do bad are the people who don't study at all. All you need to do is read the book and pay attention. It ain't hard to get an A if you listen to his lectures. He is willing to slow the pace of the class until students get it. Super helpful in office hours. Forget the people who gave Chen a bad score. He is my favorite teacher at Cal Poly.

Chen is one of the coolest professors i've had at Poly. His Class was an hour of lecture and an hour of hands on work on Access and Excel. He goes out of his way at office hours to clarify material and does a great job conveying the material in class. He has an impressive background in IS and it clearly shows in class. I would 100% recommend Chen! A+ Professor for being new to Cal Poly.

Really Great Teacher, take him if you're just trying to get 391 out of the way because he gives you everything you need to pass the class!! 2 exams worth 30% of your grade and a project worth 25% which is not hard at all. He grades on a curve so thats helpful. HE BRINGS COOOKIES FOR THE MIDTERMS!!!!!!

Took this class last quarter and he was a great professor! Some people say he was very boring, which was true because he covered a lot of material. But everything was super useful in future IS classes, he was SO nice, brought scantrons and pencils for people every test, even brought us cookies once, and he's always open to helping people in office hours, which a lot of us did for projects. Super knowledgeable. Accent was definitely understandable. Great guy overall, so glad I was introduced to IS by him and not some of the other IS professors.

Let me tell you Chen is the best teacher you can take at Cal Poly. Seriously the people who do bad are the people who don't look or read the book. The test is straightforward if you read the book. He is willing to help you. Everything you will learn in his class is extremely useful. You will not regret taking him. Also one of the nicest teachers in Business Building.

Class consisted of half lecture, half hands-on activities using SAS Enterprise Guide and Miner. If you're gonna take this class, beware that Dr. Chen's lectures are extremely long and boring, he just talks non-stop for about an hour while going off the slides. Most people were on Facebook or Buzzfeed during lectures. Also, the hands-on assignments don't prepare you very well for the final. Go to office hours and have him explain all the steps to you when using Enterprise Miner, you need to understand what they mean. Otherwise, Dr. Chen was very nice and he was fair with grading, he curved the midterm since everyone did so bad on it. He is obviously a smart guy with a lot of experience in the field, but I feel like he needs to improve as a teacher.

Chen is the man. I wish he taught more than one undergrad course. This class is super useful on your resume and I learned a lot about data warehousing and data analytics. Honestly, if you chug coffee and pay attention to his lectures (they pretty much go all 2 hours up to the last minute every time) you'll do good in the class. He curved both the midterm and the final up to around an 80 average for the class. He's also super accommodating and won't really dock you points for turning in a homework a couple hours or a day late. Great class

Straight up, Dr. Chen is the absolute man. This guy is so intelligent and does his best to present the topics as best as possible and makes sure that students understand the material before moving forward. He is always willing to help answer questions and going to his office hours is super helpful. His class is tough and it does require that you put in the work, but it's totally worth it. If you are interested in data mining or data analytics at all, I would say his class is a must take. You get hands on experience in SAS enterprise miner and XL miner which are very highly sought after skills that you can put on your resume. Come prepared for class, drink coffee, and practice with all the datasets he gives you and you'll do great in this class. Dr. Chen may be one of the best professors at OCOB, I don't have a bad thing to say about him.
