I took Ryan during his first quarter teaching at Cal Poly and was not disappointed by his ability to aid and expand my individual creativity as well as his ability to prepare me for the quarters to come. The studio environment is one that needs a professor with whom you feel comfortable enough to actually ask for help, as getting critiqued can put you in a seemingly vulnerable position, and he is absolutely a professor that is eager to help you improve while improving himself.

Ryan is a laid back, fun guy to be around. He knows his stuff and pushes you to explore beyond your creative boundaries and expand your thought process to encompass something that is much more than Architecture. He will also take you on short field trips around campus, to his firm downtown, and around construction sites. His workload is relatively light and he is very honest but very nice. He likes to explore different paths one can take with your project, and he makes sure to always meet with everybody to see how they are progressing. Overall, very organized class, easy to handle, and very enjoyable. Highly recommend him!

Seriously, why don't people talk about Ryan like they do Humberto and Keith? I'm convinced he's one of the coolest first year professors here. His third quarter studio is mostly made of returning students. He works as both an architect and studio professor, but he uses that to the students' advantage, always making them the priority. He took us to a job site and his firm, showing us what its like in the real world. His studio is really great if you're not the type to approach professors to ask questions. As you work, he always checks in on you and gives you helpful feedback. He realizes you are human, adjusting deadlines if needed. He also does Polylearn uploads to make portfolio easier. He puts a ton of thought into his class to make it a beneficial and enjoyable experience.

Ryan is a great professor. I had him twice, once for ARCH 131 and again for ARCH 251. He completely understands his students and lets them work at their own pace. Class with him is chill if you take his advice to heart, which the advice is normally really good. He talks about his daughter and cares for his students a lot. He really likes work done by hand and isn't a fan of digital work, but that's what he believes first year should be about. Overall, he is easy to understand, has solid crits, and loves to do little field trips with his class.

Professor Brockett has a reputation for unique fun projects and doesn't shy away from taking an bold approach to assignments. He implements many field-trips in his class which make the class more exiting than other second year professors.
