Dr. Gervasi is not only an amazing teacher but also an amazing man. I knew he was going to be great on the first day of class. He made an effort to know everybody’s name and successfully learned them all by the 2nd or 3rd class. It is evident that he cares about all his students. He only had office hours once a week however, he puts sample problems up on polylearn every night. He usually assigns the odd problems (because the answers are in the back) and works out the even ones for us. He also encourages his students to email him with homework questions and he typically always responds immediately with guided help. He takes time in the beginning of each class to review homework questions. Dr Gervasi explains the material so clearly and makes an effort to make sure his students understand what he is teaching. I am decent at math but many students in my class struggle with the subject. However, i think most people in my class believed that they comprehended the material so much better and even liked math more because of him. His character is unlike any other teacher or professor I have ever had. Aside from caring about his students, he is passionate about what he teaches. He has a good sense of humor that he integrates into class and he is ALWAYS smiling. He told our class that we motivate him to be a better teacher. Dr Gervasi is so well respected among his students. His class consists of about 10-11 quizzes (drops your lowest) and most of these quizzes are pop quizzes- so don’t skip class. However, they are exact homework problems so just keep up with all the homework and you will be fine. They aren’t hard at all. He had 3 midterms which aren’t too bad if you understand the material. The final is probably the hardest of all the exams but it's not too bad if you study- he even gave our class a notecard. Unfortunately, Dr. Gervasi only taught one section at cal poly winter quarter because his main job is at Cuesta. Cuesta is very lucky to have him and hopefully over the years Dr Gervasi will obtain more time at cal poly because he would be a great asset to the Cal Poly math department. If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to take him, I wouldn’t pass up the chance.

He is a really great Professor. To my knowledge, he is a part-time professor, however, he makes himself very available to his students (mainly sending him pictures through email). He also gives you gimme quizzes which he lets you change your answers to the correct ones (only occurred two times, but really helped). He is kinda goofy sometimes, but he tries to make the class as fun as possible and is generally pretty clear when he teaches Calculus II. It's a hard class, but if you put time into it after class, you will do great in this class. I highly recommend taking this teacher.

I love Dr. Gervasi! Calculus II is quite a difficult class, but he convey the material in a very clear way. He's also very organised with his notes, and his quizzes. A typical class would be going through any of our homework problems and teaching new concepts. He's very approachable, full of energy, and is funny. Even though he isn't a full-time professor at Cal Poly, he makes himself as available as possible. He tells us to shoot him emails and homework problems and he replies to us within seconds! Highly recommend!

TAKE HIM!!!! Great professor I had him for Calc 2 The truth is I didn't do well in this class because it was a rough quarter for me. However having calc from 5-6 pm can be pretty annoying but because of Dr.Gervasi this class was my favorite class! He is really passionate about everything he teaches, he teaches them very clearly and he is really energetic, his class is anything but boring. I highly recommend him, everyone must take him. He's probably the funniest and best math teacher I've had so far. I still email him once in a while if I have a math related question and he still emails me back usually within an hour. He is on top of his email game! Homework is not graded, but If you do all the HW (which isn't much) you'll do well in this class and if you make my mistake and don't do the homework you're screwed.

Dr. Gervasi is overall a great human being. He is an incredible math teacher. Even though I got a 5 on the AP Calc AB test, I was nervous for Calc 2. He was so helpful and attentive to all his students, and you could tell everybody felt that way. We had 10 quizzes which were from the homework, and they really helped you prepare you for all the chapter tests. He made himself totally accessible outside of office hours. If you send him a picture of your homework problem you're stuck on, he helps you get to the next step, and then he addresses it the next day in class to make sure you understand fully. Of course, you still have to do your homework and study, like you would for any class. Best teacher I've had at Cal Poly. I would recommend him to anyone.

TAKE GERVASI Dr. G is great, i can't find one flaw. He has realistic expectations for his students and goes back over stuff when they're struggling. He doesn't collect homework and doesn't take attendance. He is helpful during office hours. I had his 6-8 pm and he even let us go early some nights when he noticed we were just not being productive. The only grades in his calc 2 class are tests and quizzes, but i felt that if I studied it was not too hard to get an A or B. Definitely take Dr. G's class if you can get him.

Dr. Gervasi is the best teacher at this school and most definitely by the best teacher in the math department. It was truly an honor to be in his class. Your grade consists of three quizzes, three midterms, and then the final. This guy truly knows his stuff. This was my third time taking Calc 2, and even though he was the most challenging teacher for Math 142 that I have had, he definitely made it fun and appreciate calc 2. If you want a teacher who really cares about his students take Dr. Gervasi!!!

Dr. Gervasi has a great attitude every single day when he comes in to teach. I genuinely think he loves his job, and he definitely cares about his students. He's an excellent teacher, but keep in mind, his class will still be difficult and can punish you if you don't put in the effort. Overall, one of the best math teachers I've had the pleasure of learning from. Take him if you have the chance, and make sure to do the homework. You will thank me later.

Did not realize how great I had it. Gervasi is definitely one of the most passionate educators I have ever had the opportunity to sit down and learn from. He is always willing to help out with any problem you have with the curriculum and is extremely clear with his teaching. He made this 5-6pm class extremely enjoyable and although I did miss out on getting an A, the grade didn't matter to as much. This is not an easy course and you had to do the work to attain the grade you really want but he gives you all the right resources (hw assignments) to succeed in his class. The only negative I have about his class is that some of the questions he made on his quizzes and exams seemed foreign to me and a couple other classmates. That is, the questions he tested us on looked different from the homework questions. Overall, TAKE THE BOY. You will not regret being a part of the Gang.

I guarantee you Professor Gervasi will be one of the best teachers you have at Cal Poly. He's super enthusiastic about math and you can tell he really loves teaching it. He's also been the only math teacher I've ever known that can consistently make the class laugh. He teaches the material really well and will answer any questions you have about it, and will definitely reply to emails if you have questions on homework problems too. In terms of quizzes and tests, do the suggested homework and you will be fine. He doesn't throw curveballs on his tests (he did once but it was on accident and he gave the whole class credit for the problem) and gets his questions mainly from the book, so if you have extra time then it's a good idea to do other problems from the homework sections. It's still a pretty hard class since it's calc 3 but do the homework and you'll do well. I don't see how he could make this class any easier. Also he has 3 quizzes, 3 midterms and a final, and doesn't drop the lowest midterm like most other professors do so don't bomb a midterm like I did lol. Take the class

Gervasi was the best professor I've had so far at Cal Poly. 1. He never takes attendance and doesn't care if you show up. 2. His quizzes and tests are literally questions from the book/hw. 3. He never checks hw, but will thoroughly go through any questions from hw you have in class. 4. He is so passionate about math! He gets excited when students ask interesting questions. 5. He knows you name by the end of week one. 6. Gervasi is a great guy, he's a parent and genuinely cares about his students on another level.

I honestly could not have asked for a better professor. I'm not all that hot when it comes to math, but I took it upon myself to get my act together and give math a good try now in college. Dr. Gervasi is easily in my top three greatest teachers and i honestly can not see why he wouldn't take the #1 spot. He is humble, ethusiastic, and more than willing to go the extra mile for you as long as you're willing to do the same. I have five hours straight of calss right before his, and his class is the highlght of my day. Before I came to college math was easily my weakest subject, but just a few lectures into his class he made me feel like a genuis. Dr. Gervasi is extremely charming and full of compassion and It's something that strikes you within the first 10 minutes of talking to him. As long as you're willing to give him and the class even the tiniest bit of a chance, he'll bring out the best in you. Now getting to what you're probably looking for... HOMEWORK: Doesn't collect any- He's smart to do so. And you'd be smart to do it anyways. Dr. Gervasi recognizes that sure, he could collect hw and take off points for people not doing it OR he could reward people who want to learn and not just earn the HW credit. He does this by making the quizzes and tests HEAVILY drawn upon from the homework. Look, he assigns a very reasonable workload of HW, so do it. It really REALLY will help you in the class. TESTS/QUIZZES: THREE QUIZZES(30%) and THREE TESTS(50%). Like i said, if you do the homework and actually try and enjoy the class, its almost impossible for you to get anything less than a B on the exams. Trust me, put the effort in- and you'll be rewarded heavily. FINAL: (20%) I'm looking foward to it LECTURE: There's no other way to put it... from the second he enters the class you feel excited, happy, and with a genuine desire to learn. You leave feeling like a hero on their way to fight the dragon(HW) Dr. Gervasi is easily the best professor I have had here at Cal Poly, it saddens me that i only have him for a quarter. He makes me want to be a MATH MAJOR! You'll absolutely love him

HANDS DOWN THE BEST TEACHER EVER AT CAL POLY. Made the class really enjoyable and a class I was looking forward to. Not an easy class tho, but pretty straight forward and manageable to get a good grade. Homework is not required but will help you tremendously. He is also the best grader ever, really quick and super helpful (doesn't count questions if too many people missed it etc). Thank you for everything Dr Gervasi!!

Gervasi is amazing, hands down, no questions asked. He is easily the coolest, most genuine and passionate math professor at Cal Poly, and he so loves what he does. Best class I have ever taken, and if you don't want to hate math and calc by the end of the quarter, then you need to take him. Even worth it with the 6-8 TR (he teaches at Cuesta full-time, but we need to just hire him and have him teach everything).

Pray that you are lucky enough to take Dr. Gervasi's class. He is EXTREMELY kind, approachable, genuine, and fun. Teaching skills are great and tries to explain things in a way that everyone can understand. He goes out of his way to learn everyone's name. His enthusiasm at the beginning of every class is contagious. Encourages questions and doesn't make you feel dumb for asking. His exams and quizzes are very fair and doesn't try to trick you. Easily one of the best teachers Cal Poly has to offer.

Professor Gervasi presents the information in a very clear way and sometimes in different ways until you grasp it. People respect him because of his demeanor and the fact that he knows what he's is talking about, plus he had almost everyone's name learned by the end of the first class! He smiles a lot which always puts me at ease as math makes me nervous most of the time. Lots of energy which is good for a class that meets 6-8pm so it's hard not to pay attention to him (although it's obvious he works out which can be a distraction at times). Take him if you can!

Um, yeah. So Dr. Gervasi is a math professor, not a theater/dance professor. So the student above should stick his tongue somewhere else!
