Frantz is a very fair professor who presents the material clearly and makes organic chemistry enjoyable. His attractiveness is very distracting.

Even though I did well in his class, I don't recommend him to anyone. He throws curveballs at your in tests and his teaching style is bad.

Dr. Frantz is the best. He is so nice and helpful, and he really cares about his students. Go to his office hours! He is super helpful and funny. We had four quizzes, two were take home and two were in class. The quizzes were straight forward if you put in the effort. We had two midterms, and I thought that they were very fair. He posts all of his old tests and quizzes that he has given, and they are pretty similar to the ones he gave this year. This class does require a significant amount of work if you want to do well. However, Frantz made it a lot more enjoyable, and I am taking him for the rest of the series because he is so great!

Take Frantz. Seriously. I had him for both lecture and lab and absolutely loved him. O chem is hard, there's no denying it. But Frantz presented the material very well and gives his students all the tools they need for success. He gives out lots of helpful charts, tables, and handouts and he's a really fun guy too. Do the reading before class (it'll help you follow along during lecture) and do the suggested homework problems. It is a lot of work but it pays off. I have a great understanding of O chem and though I couldn't take him for 217, I would love to take Frantz again for 218. He's great!

Frantz is incredible. At first I was really struggling to understand his teaching style. He gave us access to old quizzes and tests which were generally completely different from the ones he gave us which made me realize I was not prepared for the first midterm by studying off those. If you attend class, ask questions, do (ALOT) practice problems and MASTER REACTIONS by the second half of the quarter I was able to bring my grade up significantly!! Dont get down due to a poor grade on your first few quizzes or midterm, you can come back! He is very helpful and wants you to succeed!! He is great at explaining things in multiple way so you can understand!! and his information sheets are the best in the department (I think personally...now in Ochem 217 with another professor that I dont particularly like the info sheet layout and info) Take him any chance you can, you wont regret it!!!!

Dr. Frantz is kind of like Jimmy Fallon because he is always SO EXCITED about whatever he's talking about. Great teacher, personable, and fair. If you take him, come up with a good answer to the prompt: what's something that you like? Frantz will forever be my cyclic BROmonium.

He's a very hard teacher, and I had to work really hard in this class. His tests and quizzes are not like the same problems as his practice problems.

Frantz is a great option for Ochem. He really tries his best to make his exams fair. Overall, organic chemistry is always going to be difficult, but Frantz is a great option. He is really knowledgable and will make ochem a lot more interesting.

Dr. Frantz is a very passionate and outgoing professor. He is very helpful in office hours. His tests can be a little challenging, but he understands this. He is a very fair professor. Ochem 3 is hard as it is, and he understands that students struggle. He is a bit ADD and gets distracted and has messy notes, but overall he is a great professor! Very funny too!

Frantz is an amazing professor and is easily relatable, making it easier to learn from him. He is on par with Meisenheimer. I highly encourage picking him from lecture and lab.

This was Dr. Frantz's fist quarter teaching at Cal Poly and he did an amazing job. He learned everyone's name and got to know everyone really quickly (I had him for lecture and lab). He made me feel really comfortable asking questions. He also presented the material in a way that made O Chem seem less scary and and almost fun (I hate chemistry and was dreading O Chem). His tests are really reasonable. He gives out lots of handouts with example problems and goes over them in class, giving you time to work with your peers. If you do these worksheets and the homework you will be able to do well on the tests. He also gave 5 or 6 quizzes. I wish I could take him next quarter.

Dr. Frantz was easily the best professor I've had at Cal Poly, and definitely one of the best teachers I've had period. He is pretty funny and always tries to make the class as interesting as possible. His interest in what he teaches is infectious and makes O-Chem not so bad. Super cool and nice guy as well. He is very knowledgeable about the material, and always answers your questions clearly and in-depth. Best thing he does is make video tutorials and keys for many of the quizzes, handouts, and even exams. These make very good study materials to look back on at the end of the year. He is a fair to easy grader, and gives partial credit where he reasonably can. Overall an excellent professor, and I would highly highly highly recommend him.

Dr. Frantz is a very active, young, amusing, perfectionist professor; he definitely made the course less horrible, despite hating ochem I always looked forward to lecture and lab. He’s a really fair grader, very approachable and truly helped in his office hours; he makes video keys explaining quizzes, and worksheets, which was extremely helpful. The class wasn’t easy ochem is a difficult subject however If you put effort and do the book problems he suggests and his worksheets you’ll do fine on the class. He’s just amazing overall I would definitely recommend him over anyone else; I would absolutely take him again if I could. Plus it helps that he’s also very cute :)

Dr. Frantz is THE best professor for O-Chem. I really learned a lot in his class because he was so approachable and really wanted us to learn the material. Instead of hating O-Chem, you will love it if you put the work in. Do all the worksheets and textbook problems on your own. Ask questions in office hours if you don't understand something. You should be good.

Awesome professor. Frantz always told us what to expect, and his tests and grading were fair. I would've done better had it not been for another difficult class I had. My only complaint is that he is young, good looking, and very sexy. It was hard to get to know him during office hours cause there'd always be a flock of girls hovering around. But he does take appointments for office hours, which is something I probably should've done. Ah well. Take Frantz!!!

Dr. Frantz is an angel dropped from heaven and sent to Cal Poly, he's an amazing professor who goes above and beyond to help everyone succeed. If you don't understand something go to office hours and he'll try and explain it in different ways which is awesome. He's a really knowledgable and super sweet funny guy, with a really dorky laugh, just do yourself a favor and take him for lecture and lab you won't regret it!

I’m not going to lie the first few classes I was a bit iffy about Dr. Frantz because he was new and young. At first he seemed nervous and all over the place he constantly made mistakes and was always sweaty for some reason but as the weeks went by I really appreciated his enthusiasm for ochem. His friendly personality was very warming for a professor you could tell he cared for all his students I thought he was a very fair grader he always covered everything on the quizzes and exams and I loved that he made video keys. Great Professor!!

Dr. Frantz is an excellent professor. He started out a bit shaky but quickly created a solid plan of action to teach Ochem. I hated gen-chem. I loved Chem 316, and actually enjoyed studying it. He is helpful in office hours, an animated and patient teacher, and is always looking for new ways to make the material more approachable and clear. He makes great video keys to tests and quizzes, helpful worksheets, well-condensed summary sheets for each major concepts, and writes fair tests/quizzes. He may be overly prone to getting chalk-marks on himself from the chalkboard, but seems to genuinely enjoy teaching and sharing his knowledge of Organic Chemistry with his students.

okay first off, HOLY HOT PROFESSOR. wow. i mean wow. it was hard for me to attend office hours because of my awkwardness and immediate blushing whenever i attempted to talk to him. good god. embarrassing. okay, now that i got THAT out of the way, I took professor frantz during his first quarter at cal poly (Fall 2014). I was skeptical at first because he was new. by the end of the quarter i was sad that he would not be teaching 317! He is absolutely amazing and genuinely cares about his students. he damn near learned everyone's names in the classes and believe it or not, he actually made chemistry INTERESTING! i hated gen chem and organic chemistry was really interesting to learn about! i was thoroughly impressed and still VERY thankful for the handouts he made for us because i STILL use them for chem 317 everyday! if you have the chance do NOT miss out on taking his lecture AND LAB! when i see him in the science building i STILL get utterly awkward when he says hi to me. -____-

First off...the cutest professor ever! personality and looks wise :P I'd date him If I was a tad bit older. ANYWAY! Great teacher, very approachable and helpful towards his students. The hand outs and video keys he makes for them are SUPER helpful! Hard class but manageable with him teaching!

I thought I was the only one who thought Dr. Frantz was charming! Anyway, it was very nice having him as a professor. I was worried about him being new as many others have stated, but I believe his age is a benefit. I really felt like I could relate to him, and he was very approachable. Organic chemistry can be very scary, but Dr. Frantz made it bearable. He was straight forward and offered some awesome in-class worksheets. I have full faith that he will only get better as he gains more experience. I would recommend him.

if only he was taller he'd be the definition of perfection! Ochem is very intimidating but like everyone else has said Dr. Frantz made the class sooo much less painful! His worksheets, videos, and quizzes help prepare for midterm which is very straightforward! Reading the comments makes it seem as if he's an easy teacher but in reality the class is very difficult its just that Dr. Frantz somehow makes learning and retaining the material simple I totally completely and utterly recommend him!

Okay Dr. Frantz deserves an A++! Hes one of the best professors at Cal Poly and one of the best if not THE best I've had. He's super approachable and honestly caring. Like everyone has said he makes video keys and very helpful worksheets, 5 quizzes, 2 midterms, and the final. Ochem is awful but with Dr. Frantz you won't hate your life as much because he always has a smile on and always has a positive attitude that somehow rubs off on you! Thank You Dr Frantz you're an amazing professor don't ever change!!!!

Dr. Frantz was a really good organic chemistry professor. I really enjoyed his class because he always brought such energy to the class that made learning ochem that much better. He was very helpful with his problem sets and video keys as previously mentioned. My only issue with him is that towards the end of the quarter, Frantz began to try and get approval from colleagues. Because of that the average on the second midterm was 64%, much lower than the average of the first midterm which was 75%. The only problem was that I wished he did things his own way instead of constantly asking others what he should do and if he did things their way. Other than that I really enjoyed his class, learned a lot, and felt good about my abilities in organic chemistry.

Dr. Frantz is awesome! I was wary of taking this second ochem class because I had take the first (316 equivalent) at another school, thus I was missing some information. However, Dr. Frantz made ochem super accessible and even a little fun (gasp!). He was very approachable and super helpful during office hours (I went almost every week). His enthusiasm and overall genuine love for organic chemistry made the course both interesting and much less of a pain than I thought it would be. The chemistry department is very lucky to have gotten Dr. Frantz as he is one of the best professors I have had a Cal Poly. That being said, don't be fooled into thinking you can get an easy A in his course. His quizzes and tests are challenging, but I think I learned more because of it.

I had Prof Frantz for both 316/17 (lecture/lab) as a lecturer he lacked experience which was expected given that he was new however during 316 I gave him an A for effort he seemed as if he genuinely cared for his students went above and beyond to make understanding ochem a bit simpler yet when I had him for 317 he seemed a lot more distant/ lazy he took longer grading our work which didn't make sense since he was only teaching one lab section he never truly showed us our overall lab grades. When we asked for help he always seemed busy it looked liked he left everything(making quiz / exams) to the last possible minute. He gave 5 quizzes and made some video keys and we had to practically beg for the awesome worksheets he made in 316. He was always in a hurry wouldn't even stay a min after office hours ended!! overall he's an ok prof he was better in my 316 class but I guess the attention from most of the girls finally got to him! He's not even that good looking! If u have a chance to take someone else I would if not u will survive.
