I seriously dislike this teacher. She is lazy and reads off of the powerpoint then doesn't give back a scantron test for a week after you took it when all she has to do is put some numbers in a computer. She will not put up dated grades on poly learn until right before finals. Tests are okay, but asks specific random information rather than broad on the entire topic. No books are needed. Don't like her at all, take another teacher if you can!! Noland was supposed to teach the class but Burroughs just kind of took it over and Noland hasn't shown up since the second week.

She is a really bad teacher and has no sympathy for students. Her midterms are really hard due to little super specific facts about a broad general topic that we only spent one day in class for. She always looks unprofessional and treats the class that way. If you try to go to her office hours to see how you did on a test, she will usually blow you off saying she has an "unexpected event" that she has to go to, she did this 4 times to me this quarter. The class was supposed to be taught by Dr. Noland but Burroughs ended up teaching the whole quarter. If you can get out of her classes try to do it! The headaches and stress from her alone isn't worth it!

This class was fun because it was about animals and that is my major, and therefore what I am interested in. But she is so frustrating to work with because she always acts like you're stupid for asking a question. She also put questions on our midterm & final that we never discussed in class but she wouldn't know that because we always have guest speakers and she isn't there every class period. If she didn't lecture about it, she has no idea about the topic and then you have nobody to ask for help if you don't understand something

First off, Virginia is a very opinionated teacher and on the tests instead of thinking "What's the most logical answer" for a question you aren't positive of the answer, you find yourself asking "What would Virginia want the answer to be?" Terrible teacher, avoid taking any of her classes. Very harsh grader and doesn't cover all the material she puts on the midterms and final.

Honestly, I understand where everyone is coming from -- I felt the same way. I don't think she is totally mean or unhelpful but it definitely seems like she doesn't really want to be teaching this class... definitely lacks genuine enthusiasm.

The class was mainly guest speakers while Burroughs oversaw the class. When she taught and presented her powerpoints, she read off the slide. Didn't know many of the answers to specific questions. She has her masters and you can tell. Her tests are straight off the powerpoints, but include a few very specific questions. Study the powerpoints, and go to class for the guest speakers/ to meet the other professors. An A is definitely possible if you study. She drops the lowest quiz and test. Nice professor, not the best at teaching.

She definitely does not deserve a 1.5 rating, I mean seriously? That being said, ASCI 112 involved mostly guest lecturers specialized in their fields. For a non-asci major, I learned a lot about animals and shit, even a good amount of basic biology. Project involved interacting with animals which was cool cause I never do that. She is average. Her low polyrating score comes from polarized reviews of negativity.

Virginia's lectures were just her reading off of a powerpoint; going to class was unnecessary and she's really just a boring, monotone teacher that I feel lacked a lot of knowledge about the stuff she was teaching. Her tests were RIDICULOUSLY hard; the first midterm we all did well on so the second one she made it so hard that we all failed. She's not a great instructor and if anyone else is teaching 112, take them. Easy to pass the class but you won't enjoy it.

It might have been the lecture hall and comfy seats, but I fell asleep every day of lecture with Virginia. She goes over exactly what is on the slides, and her voice is pretty monotonous and puts you to sleep. As a person, she's great. She is helpful in office hours and for projects, I definitely recommend going to talk to her- it will help your grade immensely.

Virginia is a great person and personable when talking with students during office hours or during a break in the class, but otherwise one of the worst teachers I have had. Her midterms and finals are set up as trick questions intended to get you to choose the wrong answer. I studied for 20+ hours and made 150+ flashcards for the final and still got a C. If you are an ASCI major who is interested in companion animals she is the wrong teacher to have, she gears the class toward people who were raised around livestock and horses and who know quite a bit about animals. She does not take into account that not all of her students were raised in agricultural areas. She is an awful grader and very nit picky. Took an assignment into her for her to look over, and still got a B on it. Virginia definitely needs work on her lecturing, everything comes right off the slides and her lectures are as dull as possible, it was very hard to pay attention for the entire 2 hour class. If you decide to take this class be prepared to be very stressed out, while it may seem like an easy class for those who are incoming freshman or non-majors who are taking it to fulfill a GE, you are sadly mistaken.

Burroughs was fine in the beginning of the quarter being all nice to the class and then she took a turn. Its practically impossible to get a perfect score on any of her test except maybe the first one because it is really easy. She gives a stupid group final project and give EVERYONE low B's and C's so it drops your grade significantly. Went into finals week with an A and came out with a B (she doesnt do A+, A, A-, B+, etc.) She reads right off her slides and is very monotone. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! Take Huzzey!

Absolutely loved Virginia Burroughs. She does an amazing job of not just lecturing to students but forces you to interact with one another She also handled there only being 20 people out of the enrolled 150. Take this class and you won't regret it

Condescending and mean. At first she was nice, but I felt she expected way too much out of us for this lower division class. The first quiz was ok, she graded the 1st project harshly and the 2nd quiz was hell. I'm sorry, but she should not be teaching at Cal Poly.

HORRIBLE GRADER. She gives out the most simple prompts for projects (first of all, why are we even getting projects in lab) and grades extremely hard after barely giving any instruction. On lab quizzes, she expected more answers that were even asked on the questions.. Avoid. She's a shitty time.

Virginia may seem nice at first but she is super fake. She gives shitty prompts for project, not explaining what she wants at all then grades you very harshly when she wasn't even clear on the assignments. She expects more than the correct answer on quizzes which is ridiculous because she doesn't even give you enough time to right a simple answer. We must of done 3 things that pertained to the actual class, other labs were a waste of time. She is a horrible teacher avoid taking her.

Virginia, please take this as constructive feedback. Virginia is a nice person, but I think the lab could have been taught much better. I liked that this quarter she changed the major assignments from tests to presentation projects- the first presentation was super applicable and really cool. The second presentation was not really relevant to the class- it was pretty interesting, and certainly way better than a test, but it could have been on a more applicable topic. Unfortunately, she barely explained either assignment (one of them she posted on Polylearn and didn't even speak to us about) and then graded really harshly on things that she never mentioned we would be graded on, including weird or nitpicky things like our enthusiasm level (bizarre because people who had that feedback were legitimately enthusiastic about the presentation. Also this is weird because she has really low energy and interest when she's talking) and stuff on our powerpoint, like font and blank space, all of which was still clear to read from and had a lot of thought put into. I love, love, love the lecture with Sprayberry, but this lab is largely a waste of time. For one, we had 3 out of 10 labs cancelled, got out super early from most of the rest, and generally were not given very interesting or challenging assignments, apart from the fetal pig dissection. This lab has so much potential and could be incredibly cool, but unfortunately Virginia's apparent disinterest in the course has made it a disappointment. I just wish Sprayberry had enough time to teach the lab as well :)
