Professor Beardsley is a decent instructor who stays with the objective for the day, but his grading style is very confusing. He isn't very clear on things and it can confuse students. He is a nice person and is willing to help

Dr. Beardsley may not be the best teacher that you have taken, but he is nonetheless a good teacher. If you are enthusiatic about learning (which should be the case for most students) you will do fine in this class. It is a great opportunity to learn about personal finances which will help individuals be better equipped for the future. Knowledge of personal finances is not something that is required but is very useful, I highly recommend this class to any motivated students who wish to learn more about "personal" finances, such as types of savings, taxes, stocks, mortgages, APRs, investments, etc.

Dr. Beardsley brings a lot of personal experience to this class. Overall, I found the class helpful and informative. However, I noticed a tendency (at least in a smaller class with a wide variety of majors) for him to talk down to those who are not econ or business majors. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in learning more about their personal finances, but be prepared for a fast-paced class where the responsibility to clear up misunderstandings in the material falls on the student

Beardsley is a great prof, and I think EVERYONE should take econ105. It's a small class and it teaches you all the things you should have learned in high school about personal finance. He really gets students to learn the material, and the class isn't too tough either. It doesn't fulfill any requirement, but it is worth the time. One HW assignment every two weeks, and a test every two weeks is all you have to worry about.

This guy is full of himself, but the class was informative and is something that can be applied to my life now. The class is easy as long as you do the homework. He allows you to fill the back of your scantron with notes and the tests are every two weeks. Not a high workload class, but you have to pay attention in class. No final either.

Professor Beardsley is probably one of the worst professors I have had at Cal Poly. You cannot understand a word that he says and his handwriting is awful. His tests are pretty difficult at times and you actually have a good understanding of the material. I would not suggest taking this class!!

This class isn't too bad if you can understand the concept of economy. He does not give plusses or minuses, all of his tests are multiple choice, and instead of a final he has 4 midterms. This is a huge lecture, so most likely you will know someone in the class and you can take turns going to the lecture. Reading the text might help but is not necessary. Beardsley is an ex-hippie who is still holding on to his era, but you learn to enjoy his personality.

A good profesor. Lecture is held in the large auditorium of the Business building so there are a lot of people in class. The advantage of this a straighforward lecture style, mult choice test, and a consistent standard grading scheme.

Instructor is energetic and seems to enjoy subject. Subject is very dry and boring though. It is easy to fall asleep, especially with the large room. Likes to use the internet and the web for projects and extra credit. As long as you go to class and follow along, minimal reading is needed.

Beardsly is a pretty good professor compared to the others that I've had. You can make up any of the midterms if you do poorly. There is no homework and his exams come straight out of the Green Book (a notes helper book availible for a few dollars at El Coral). He is very laid-back so you never feel stressed about his class or going to his office hours. If you're the kind of person who doesn't like going to class but still wants a good grade, this is the guy for you.

Beardsley was an overall good teacher. His class was fairly easy, as long as you keep up your attendance. Pay attention in class and take additional notes besides the notes he gives out. We all hate economics, but he made this class more entertaining that I ever thought possible. Read the electronic bulletin boards, and go to class on Friday's when no one is there (he gives out test answers).

Professor is very good in explaining material, but rarely understands a student's question. Usually it takes a couple of tries to get the point across to him. He's so un-organized that breaks in his lecture to search for the right overhead make students quickly become bored. It's hard to stay awake in that class. Half-way through the quarter I went to talk with the professor DURING his office hours about a couple of questions I had.. After I asked my question, he gave me a half answer, and abruptly left the office, closing the door on my face and turning his back to me while he did so. I wonder what could be more important than a student's problem with the material. It seemed to me like he didn't care to help, and I never went there anymore.

Simply one of the most boring instructors I have ever had. I found his techno-utopianism and reliance on "internet assignments" tedious.

Beardsley's class was BORING. I slept everyday. It's a big lecture so you can never ask questions. Overall though, the class was damn easy. I didn't even buy the textbooks. I just listened in lecture got B's on the tests.

His class is not hard. The tests are fair. However, I have to say this..."I hate the music he plays in the beginning of every class." It is sooooooo annoying.

Beardsley was b o r i n g. But he does utilize Cal Poly's technology by using some mic thing too bad the battery goes does every 3rd lecture. Internet assignments are weird and turn into scavenger hunts which can be done in 5 minutes so thats cool. But he was too boring so I had to go 2 3 week stretches without going to class cause I would've had to shot myself after 10 minutes, realizing how boring this was and the fact that there was still 40 minutes left. Otherwise, the class is easy. You seriously have to be stupid to get less than a C. Curve helps boost a little.

First of all this class was boring due to the slow lectures. He resembles Max Weinberg from Late Night with Conan O'Brian. Anyways, he is a very laid back professor and his tests are straight from that damn green book. Don't bother buying the text because it is useless. I recommend drinking a large cup of coffee before class so you can stay up. He is a cool guy though. His tests are fair. If you pay attention at all the class is a for sure C and probable B. An A in the class will take some effort though. One last thing don't ask any questions because you will end up looking like an ass!

This guy is duller than Al Gore. Monotone voice, no jokes, no excitement. Perhaps Richard Simmons oppositte twin. He does provide lecture notes to buy at Second Edition, which helps. Your grade is based on 3 mid-terms and a final. You can retake one of the mid-terms for a higher grade. It's not that hard, but his lectures are absolutely boring!!!

Mr. Beardsley assembles a "Green Book" which has lecture notes, practice exams and review. This was helpful, but you still have to fill in some blanks on the lecture notes, so pay attention. I found it very easy not to pay attention, and not to stay awake. His test are straight from lecture though and you can have notes on the back of your scantron. Note every detail he says.

Dr. Beardsley is extremely boring. I spent a few class periods counting how many people were awake in an effort to stay up myself. His class is quite easy as long as you manage to stay awake and have a half an ear listening to him. All of his tests are scantron and straightforward and I almost never read the book, though definetly take time to read the smaller case studies book. Also take this class with friends so that you can keep each other awake by passing notes, coloring, etc...anything to stay awake!

I only have two problems with his teaching style. 1) he's kind of booring, but that's more a problem with me not enjoying the subject matter too much, so it may be subjective. 2) He tends to rant a bit much, it gets tedious at times. But other than that, he's a really good teacher. Great at explaining the material, well prepared, and decent tests too. A pretty good teacher.

Beardsley is the man! He's such an ex-hippie, and I love the way he emphasizes words at random. I thought his class was pretty interesting, although I seem to be the only one. He makes econ more interesting through examples from his life and through local issues. The great thing about this class is that it requires next to no work outside of class. Just go and take notes and you'll probably get a B. An A will require a bit of studying.

Take ECON 201 CR/NC. It will be the best thing you've ever done. The class is tedious, the work minimal and the textbook useless. It's a complete re-hash of your high school econ class, only he'll stop to ask stupid questions in the hope of making the class "interactive." Stuff like "Who can name something you might buy in a store?" And he'll wait ten minutes before someone'll answer and then has the gall to wait for a second response. If you take halfway decent notes, or copy someone else's, then you don't need to read the book. His tests are pretty short (usually 35 questions) and not that hard if you know the material. I missed class every other day and came out with a B. I could have had an A but I didn't want to bother studying before tests.

He's a pretty cool guy, if a bit on the dull side in lecture. This doesn't mean you shouldn't go to lectures, though. They will allow you to get the bulk of the test questions right if you attend every day. His tests are really easy, and you even have the chance to make up one on the final day. Grading is very fair and based on a curve. The class is generally very easy and has a minimal amount of homework.

He mght have been a good teacher had he kept more than half his class awake at one time. Most interesting part of the class was looking around to see what akward positions people were falling asleep in.

I bet this guy is good at telling bed time stories. He usually put me to sleep in the first 15 minutes of class.

I am not entirely sure what the people who said "Beardsley is a good professor" were thinking. He is far from a good professor. He blabs on for hours only to be interrupted with some useless 20 minute tangent regarding oil prices in Quebec. Then there's the testing method. I think it is fabulous that his tests are not based on your comprehension of the subject, but rather if you can translate his personal language into english. Oh, and if anyone tells you his tests get harder as the quarter goes on, believe them because the tests are actually painful by the end of the quarter.

Dr. Beardsley is very enthusiastic about what he teaches. This is both good and bad, since he teaches economics. Economics is a great course if you are into it, but if you don't like it you will just end up taking a nap and leaving class after the first hour is up. I had a very rigorous economics course in high school, so this class was a breeze. I found the tests easy and since homework was nonexistent all I had to do is show up and take a couple of notes to refresh my memory to get an A. Other people without a Econ background found the class both boring and hard. In observing some of my classmates, they would struggle over concepts, sleep in class, and spend a lot of time studying for tests. His tests are tricky. You HAVE to read the question. Lucky for us, they are mult. choice. Dr. Beardsley can be boring if you are not as equally enthusiastic as he is about economics.

Although Econ can be very boring, Beardsley did his best to get the material across with the least amount of pain. He explained everything very clearly and if you went to class, a good grade followed. He doesn't really assign homework and if you have any sort of a brain his tests are cake. If you have to suffer through Econ, Beardsley is your man.

This teacher is not the best choice for econ. 201!!! I consider myself to be a good student and this class completely messed up my GPA. His lectures are so boring you can hardly stay awake, if you take his class you will soon see what i mean...one day count all of the people who are sleeping. His grading system sucks and he pretty much curves to the highest score and in a class of 300 people unless you find econ extremely interested you're pretty much screwed. He allows you to write things on the back of your scantron and i still couldn't get the questions right, you just don't know what the mans talking about, he might as well be speaking a foreign language. I'm warning all you, beware of taking econ from this man. He is boring, goes off on tangents, and his grading system is retarded.

This teacher makes it so easy for you to do well, with just the smallest amount of effort. If you go to class, especially the day before the midterm, he gives you "hot tips" (basically questions that you need to know that correspond specifically to questions on the test). He allows you to cover the whole back of your scantron with notes to use on the test..get a fine point and just copy the green book...as you write, you'll learn the info and I swear, all but one or two questions on the test are _straight_ from the greenbook (a second edition class supplement). Those one or two questions that are not from the green book are from the text, which I would really recommend that you _not_ buy. It's like 60 dollars, its very boring reading, and it won't help your grade. I did fall asleep in class alot, especially towards the end of the quarter, but from what I've heard of other econ teachers, I would really recommend taking this one. And he does try to make it interesting.

This class is great because it is not boring at all because if you find his lecture boring you can just get lost in his gorgeous eyes. I think Cal Poly should hire more hunks like Prof. B, because it makes you want to learn so you can impress him during office hours. This class is also good because there is no HW and just study the practice tests which are exact copies of his midterms. PLus he has a lot of fun stories to tell you during class about great stuff

Average? Sometimes I think Polyratings reviewers are on crack. I can't stand this class. Beardsley is so so disorganized, and he doesn't present the material in a way that's easy to understand. He spent the first two weeks of class going through procedures and using all our class time to attend to individuals' problems - problems that weren't applicable to the rest of the class. Mostly it's just a waste of time; my friends skip all the time. I can't believe the class is four units - he doesn't present much unique material. There Must be a better way to learn this.

Beardsley tries hard to be a good and informative speaker but he needs to work on making his lecture easier to listen to. He is very monotoned and tells irrelavant stories during class that have nothing to do with his tests. His tests are worded difficultly and are hard to study for. I have received a C and an A on two of the tests taken and I studied the same amount of time on both.

ECON 201 with Professor Beardsley is a good class to take to satisfy the Econ GE requirement. I think that Dr. Beardsley presents the course material clearly and also makes relevant connections to the real world. In class discussions he tries to bring out critical thought among the students and isn't satisfied by weak answers. His Greenbook course supplement is very helpful, and all test questions come from related material within it (or directly from the practice exams, also in the Greenbook). The textbook for the course isn't nearly as useful. I took the class in the silo (3-213) so there were some problems with the sound, especially since Dr. Beardsley trails off every once in a while. Overall, though, Professor Beardlsey is a good teacher who I would recommend.

This professor was very boring. But the problem was how his lectures didn't predict the difficulty of the exams. I am an A student and this has been the only "C" I ever received. He was not very friendly when I visited his office hours, and he doesn't really seem to care about how you do in his class; he's just up there to give the material and get it over with. If you really like economics or understand it already you'll do well, but otherwise, the reading and lecture don't help and the class is hard. I studied a lot for all of his exams and got B-'s and C's. I would also say that this class brought down my GPA. I recommend avoiding this professor or taking the class credit/no credit. Otherwise the class is frustrating yet the material and teaching style bore you to death.

Class is made up of 3 Exams and 1 Final. Good luck to all you people who don't do well on tests. Lectures are horrible, he'd start off ok and in the end you'll wonder where he's going at. I read all the readings in one entire section and i'd say about 1/4 of the reading is on the tests. I've seen people write EVERYTHING there is on the green book on the back of their tests and they still managed to fail. If you do take this class, bring Altoids because they help keep you up. Material is hard to comprehend due to his lack of presenting material well.

Dr. Beardsley is not a bad guy. Yes his lectures are boring, but if you do manage to stay awake and listen to his lectures, his class is pretty easy. Also, don't bother to buy the textbook; all you really need is the greenbook. I didn't really read much of the textbook, but still managed to get an A in the class.

OK, so "Old Man" Beardsley is not a top-notched professor. And yes, this class is indeed oh so boring. Then again, ECON 201 is a boring class in itself and the lectures are attended by 200+ students. But for a class of 200+ students, he gets the job done. Teaching a class of such a big size is not an easy task, but Beardsley does a pretty good job of teaching that many. His lectures may be dry, but they are straightforwars; it depends on your learning level. The textbook is almost completely useless for this class, all you really need is the Greenbook. The Greenbook has most of the notes already printed for you that learning the material is easier. It has practice exams that help you prepare for the midterms and the final. There are 3 midterms and 1 final (which is slightly longer than a midterm). This class is easy if you know what you are doing. We get to use the back of the scantron as a cheat sheet, his tests are relatively easy, we get a make-up midterm if we do bad on one of them (but if you score lower, the average scores are taken), and he gives a generous curve. So if you want an easy A, take ECON 201 with Beardsley. Just make sure to show up regularly. Overall, not a bad professor who teaches relatively well considering that teaching a class of 200+ is not an easy job.

Yes he is extremely boring, but I found econ to be somewhat interesting. Stay awake in class and get his greenbook and you should do fine.

This is not a boring prof. It's just a boring class. Take this guy if you can. He handles the large amount of students very well. And his tests are easy if you show up to all the lectures. Not really any HW unless you actually do the reading (which is the same as his lectures). Good teacher with a good system.

This class is fair. He allows you to cover the back of your scantron with notes, which is helpful. Reading didn't help anyone in this class. You HAVE to focus on the practice tests and the book tests, because he will take quite a few questions right off of those and you'll see them word for word on the exam. Don't bother asking questions or going to office hours. The man is condescending, pessimistic (assuming you aren't worthy to ask a question because you just haven't read or studied enough yet), and not very helpful at all. Most of the time he didn't even answer the question the student was asking. There's no homework.... no projects.... just four tests. Watch out for test numbers 3 and 4 (4 being the final).... they have a lot of math and he doesn't allow calculators during the test. And be sure to stay in class for his "hot tips" about exams, because everything he hints about will be on there. A decent lecturer, but not the best TEACHer. But I hear he's better than the other professor...

No idea how people got A's in this class. Very difficult class with an even more difficult professor. Extremely unhelpful during office hours. Avoid this teacher at all costs. Incredibly boring.

Beardsley allows you to write notes on the back of your scantron. All the tests are multiple choice so if you don't mind that, I reccommend the class. Simple math (addition, division) and a good logic base are about all that is required, and if you decide you want to study, then you don't even need logic. Yes, he does manage to put 20 minutes of course material into a 2 hour lecture. Attendence is helpful and reccommended but in no way required if you spend 15 minutes figuring out the concepts in his little 'greenbook'. Nice guy, if you're nice to him, and handles the large class pretty well.

Lectures = extreamly dull, tests = rediculously hard, Professor = asshole does not care to help you understand material beyond in the lecture and he is very arogant. STAY AWAY FROM HIM AT ALL COSTS

This class absolutely sucked. All's I have to say is thank god that I got it out of the way. Beardsley's lectures were so incredibley boring I had trouble making it to class. He has a very monotone voice which makes Econ even more of a boring subject than it already is. Your whole grade is based upon 4 exams which are difficult. You don't even need to buy the textbook. Buying it is a big waste of money. The only thing that you need to succeed in the class is his greenbook. May god be with you when you enroll in his class

Prof. Beardsley is a good teacher even though his voice is pretty monotone. If you go to his lectures and pay attention it is easy to do well. You don't have to do the reading but it helps. If you study his "green" guide, then his tests are easy. The only reason people do bad is because they miss the lectures or they don't study enough. Overall he is a pretty good teacher!

I thought that this teacher was pretty interesting; he had a voice that easily caught my attention. His voice would always go up whenever he wants to emphasize something. His lectures were very clear cut, and you need not read the book if you go to class everyday. He explains the material very orderly, and is very open to questions and class discussions. There are four exams and no final. I missed one class and did struggle a bit because the material covered carried on to the next day. Overall, he was a very good teacher and I would love to take him again =)

This is the worst teacher I have ever had here at Cal poly. He does not know how to present material in a way that is understandable to his students. He never makes one solid point, all his thoughts seem to run together and he never takes the time to point out important things. Homework load is easy, there is one assignment at the end of the quarter and its basically just busy work. The test questions are really dificult but he does take many of his questions directly from the green book. Going to his office hors can be a waste of time, mostly because he will only halp you if you seem to understand the material. However he will let you write on the back of the scantron notes for the tests. One other thing, there are no calculators allowed and some of his math problems can become quite dificult with out them. Over all I would never take Beardsley again.

At first Beardsley seems like a really nice guy and that the class will be pretty easy. As the quarter progresses...he isn't so cool anymore and the material is a lot harder. He encourages questions and comments in class, but when students participate, he acts like they've said something really stupid. I found him to be really condescending and rude, and didn't really enjoy going to class. The two hour lecture is really hard to stay awake for. His little green book is kind of helpful, but you still need to take lots of notes. His tests are kind of long for the amount of time...and no calculators for the math problems.

beardsley and his mullet both rock. If you do bad in this class you are stupid. It's hella easy. All common sense. Go to class, listen, think, do the practice tests. You will get an A.

Ok well this teach on the first day seemed so cool. I mean honestly he has a mullet, which I thought he was going to be really chill. He also let us decide how he grades by the class voting if we wanted plusses and minuses or just straight up grades. Well by the second class, it was the worst I spent $60 on a used book that I never needed. The green book that I had to buy I recommend holding it close to your chest, becuase you'll need this the most. But honestly this was the most boring class ever. I felt like I was going to gouge out my eyeballs; he is the worst, but honeslty the class wasn't terribly difficult and he lets you make up your worst midterm. But this guy sucks at teaching and I had to teach myself to understand the concepts. So he is a bad teacher, but his class isn't that difficult in the sense he lets you make up a test, and his greenbook has everything you need. Don't buy the book I promise you it's a waste.

His class starts off really easy, exactly like high school econ, but about mid way through the quarter he becomes an ass. He ridicules some people in the middle of class. If you go to his office for help he asks to see your notes, and if you dont have perfect notes then he scolds you for not taking notes. It's not a really hard class and if you go to lecture dont bother even bying the book. I dont like him, but i would probally take him again.

I agree with the other guy - if you do badly in Beardsley's ECON 201 (and probably any of his other classes), you're basically just retarded, should pack up your stuff and move back to whatever hole you crawled out of because you're obviously night right for any type of "higher" education beyond learning how to walk in a straight line. But seriously folks, Beardsley knows his stuff, he obviously enjoys the material and teaching it to students, and he handled a class of nearly 300 people with ease and charisma. And he's got a mullet, a beautiful, flowing lock of hair graced by the Gods themselves. I mean, what else could you ask for in a professor. Take his class, try your best to actually go and stay awake, read the green book (and *ONLY THE GREEN BOOK*, you don't need anything else), and you'll do fine.

First off, don't buy the book. It's a pointless investment. just stick with the green book, and you're fine. Now, most people didn't have too hard of a time with this class (me included), but you do need to think. I would say that I studied for his tests more than most (say, 3 hours per test) and i "only" got a B+. I hear that he's ridiculously easier than the other econ teachers, too! Good teacher, especially for such a huge class, and almost (but not quite) a cake-walk.

His lectures aren't that great, you have to read the book to understand the material. The green book helps as well, but dont entirely depend on it. He understands the students difficulties and makes time in the lecture to answer all questions. He also gives study problems and questions right before the midterm or final. The only reason I didn't do so well was that I only started reading near the end of the quarter. --- 3 midterms and 1 final you get to retake one midterm if you missed or just want a higher score. The midterms are only 38 questions so if you miss a few it'll hurt A LOT! In addition the questions are tricky.

Beardsley is a good teacher. If you follow the study guide the class is really simple. He lectures to fit the guide and you fill in stuff. He's an overall nice guy who really wants to get people excited about Econ. Mullet Power!

Wow...I've never met anyone who can take something that should only take 15 minutes to explain, and fill up two hours with it. This was the most BORING class ever, but I still went every time and suffered. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a nice guy, but his teaching style needs a little work. Also, his tests questions are WAAAAYYY too wordy and half the time I couldn't figure out what he was trying to ask...many questions I felt could have two answers even though you're only allowed to choose one. He needs to learn to be precise in his wording, because he's too vague. But, overall, the class wasn't that hard. Just copy your greenbook onto your scantron and you'll be fine (he lets you do this). I think I could have gotten an A if I'd retaken one of the tests (he also lets you do this to bump up your grade at the end) but I was so bored with the class I couldn't stand to sit there another second after the final. I don't really think I *learned* anything in the class - but, hey, sometimes GE classes are like that - memorize what you need and then flush it out when you're done with it. Econ201 is just this way...

He's not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. His lectures are boring, but if you try to pay attention and make notes in the greenbook the textbook isn't necessary. There's no homework and the tests are short such that if you miss only a few questions your grade goes down quite a bit. However, if you understand the key terms at the beginning of the greenbook, take the practice tests and write pretty much EVERYTHING from the greenbook on the back of your scantron you should get at least a B.

You have to go to this class to do well. He gives you a break for 10 minutes in 201 and I left at that point every time. You have to stick it out, as much as it sucks. There are 3 midterms and a final, which are easy if you study. Do the practice exams and if you know anyone who has taken the class...get their tests and study them. Trust me...thats the only reasom I got a D+, but going into the final I had a B...the final sucks ass. Take time to study for it. Good luck!

Professor Beardsley's econ class isn't horribly difficult if you can manage one thing: stay awake in his 2 hour lecture class - twice a week, for a quarter. I know it is the stereotypical advice for doing well in ANY class, but staying awake, paying attention (pretty much just listening), and then study outside of class before midterms is all that is required to earn an A. A word of advice: DO NOT LET HIM SEE YOU FALL ASLEEP IN HIS CLASS! He can, and WILL, make fun of you in front of 200+ other people. His midterms are all fairly easy and usually all curved a few percents, and Beardsley also gives out "helpful hints" prior to midterms to further help you out on his all-scantron tests. He even allows for one retake of a midterm (of which many take advantage of, but I didn't need it) to help boost your grade for a midterm that you may have messed up on. Bottom line, Beardsley is a pretty good lecturer with fairly easy tests (no homeworks or quizzes at all), but his voice is hypnotic and you will find yourself falling asleep in his class.

This class is definitely boring and his lectures are definitely dull, but I give Beardsley the benefit of the doubt. First of all, the subject material is boring and the class is situated in the silo of 200+ students. It is not going to be easy to get that many people interested into this subject. Aside from that subject, Beardsley lectures on what you need to know about the basics of economics, no more and no less. His lectures are done to the best of his ability in this environment such that you get everything you need to know for the tests. He is great in that his green book has everything you need to know so that you don't have to buy a textbook. Tests are easy if you don't slack as he lets you use the back of your Scantron for notes and you get to reatke a midterm if you do bad on one. With this in mind, you should get an easy A/B if you can withstand this boredom and you don't completely slack.

Take this class with Beardsley if you want an easy A. 3 midterms and the non cumulative final and retake one. Notes on the back of all your scantrons. It doesn't get any easier. Go to class about 30 min late because he just talks about bs for that time and then you wont be as likely to leave at the break. I didnt go to class from midterm 2 to midterm 3 and i still got a B+ on it. So easy!

Ok, so economics is boring by nature, so you can't blame that on Beardsley. He is a pretty cool guy and he is really helpful during office hours. The book is a waste of money, don't buy it. The material covered is the same as a high school economics class but with a few more details. Resist the urge to fall asleep in class, because he'll notice. And stop talking when he asks you to or he'll embarrass you in front of the class. There are 3 midterms of only 38 questions each and a 50 question final. He also gives you a chance to retake one of the 3 midterms at the end of the quarter. If you attend class and read along with his published notes you hardly have to take your own notes. Or if you don't like to attend class and can teach yourself material then take this class. Pretty easy, Bearsley is cool and grades fairly. No twists or turns just a straight forward GE course.

This was the most boring class that i've ever had! You DONT need to go to class... Just read the green book.. and your set. (maybe have a buddy that goes to class... for the random graphs) Oh, and he thinks hes really funny.He isn't! But if you get board in class just focus in on how this man can stay standing on a surfboard without toppleing over from his overweight belly. And you can laugh at how the man flips his hair around... it always makes for a good laugh. Don't talk in class, he tries to make a point of everyone who does. Although, its really funny when he can't figure out who was talking...

A lot of people give Beardsley a bad rap because econ (as a study) can get quite boring. I don't believe that's his fault. I actually thought the class was quite interesting, but then again, I'm an engineer and I like knowing how things work. Basically if you go to lecture, do the reading, and make the cheat sheet for the tests(4) and non-cumalative final, it's an easy A. So yeah, if I ever had to take econ again, I would take Beardsley no doubt.

i loved Beardsley. of course, the material was pretty dry most of the time.. but that can't be helped. he's a very smart man and knows exactly what he's talking about. his tests are difficult but not overly so, if you read and have notes on the back of your scantron. i got low A's or high B's on all of them.. but i wish they had more questions, because with only 38 problems on the midterms, you can be dropped down to a B by missing only a few. if you are confused about anything, go to his office hours! he is very willing to clarify any problem you may be having. the problem sets and tests in the greenbook prepare you for the tests very well, but he can have tricky wording sometimes! he wants you to be able to APPLY the things you read about, what a concept! anyway, Beardsley is a great guy, silly and plays a lot of..interesting.. music during the breaks. i recommend him.

Professor Beardsley knows what he is talking about when it comes to economics. He presents the information in a way that students can understand without being confused. Althought the topic is extremely boring, he is able to apply the material to the real world, which makes it a lot more interesting. He has 3 midterms, which are each worth 38 points. The final is worth 50 points, and to let you know, his tests are are somewhat difficult. You don't really need the book because he has his own set of notes and practice tests that you are required to buy. Take good notes and realize that you will be in the class for the full 2 hours.

This guy is unbelievable, he rags on students for drifting off to sleep even though it is his monotone voice that puts them under. I got a A, B, C on the first three test then took the final and somhow almost failed the class. He makes everything much more confusing then it needs to be. You have to draw graphs that are pointless and get u nowhere. He is one of the worst professors i have had at Poly. Stay away, unless u want to take a two hours nap two days a week.

The low rating for Beardsley did scare me but he wasn't so bad. 3 midterms and 1 final - all multiple choice. You actually should go to class because he covers a lot of the information that will be on the test. Basically the green book is everything on the test, but you still sort of have to read the book because he includes the examples or case studies from the book sometimes just to see if you read. He also lets you write all the notes you want on the back of your scantron so that helps a lot. Plus there are practice exams to help you out. But just don't sit in the middle aisles where he can walk up and check to see if you did your homework that isnt "mandatory" and make fun of you for not doing it. Remember to read the introduction he wrote in the green book because he gives freebies on the test in there for those who actually take the time to read it. He does the same for the final with the internet assignment. He also lets you retake one test. The one thing I didn't like was how little time he gave us to take the tests. 50 minutes is not enough to read through 38 questions and answer them. Often felt rushed.

He had some random grading policies and what that he was really particular about and that I found annoying... but overall he was decent. His testing was nice - all M/C & you could write as much on the flip side of the scantron before the test (3 midterms, 1 cumulative final), though there was a lot of material & tricky ?'s.

Beardsley is a cool guy and follows his notebook exactly in lectures. His midterms are 38 multiple choice questions and you can have notes on the back of the scantron. The class is very easy and i didnt open the text once. There are no assignments, just 3 midterms and a 50 point final which isnt cumulative. I recomend this big lecture class to anyone interested or not in Economics and Beardsley is a cool teacher

He is by far the worst teacher i have ever had in my life! he has no idea whtat he is talking about and makes fun of the students. The day of the final everyone walked out of the class prepared to take it again next quarter becuase they all failed. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. IT IS A WASTE OF TIME

Beardsley is an extemely boring lecturer. The information he presents in class rarely was needed on his tests. If you take his class be sure to get the answers to the practice exams when he gives them out in class. Taking the practice exams and then studying them is the best way to prepare for the tests. For the first midterm I studied out of the book and I got a B. The next two midterms and the final I only studied from the practice exams and I got a high A. To sum it all up the class is extremely boring, but with some minimal studying it is an easy A.

Beardsley is a great professor even if you don't know anything about econ. I didn't know anything about econ before this class and he did a great job of explaning things clearly. You don't even need to read the book, just read the green book very closely and look over your notes before tests. His tests are very fair and not to hard if you've studied at least an hour or two. Take the practice tests in the green book!!! That is the best way you can study because sometimes he even duplicates questions. He is a very nice man and trys to scare you the first day. But don't worry, he's pretty cool! I would definitely take him! Pretty much everyone I know got A's or B's in his class. I did and it's wasn't very hard!!! TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, this class is amazingly boring. But its econ, you cant avoid that. Beardsley is an interesting guy. Basically, you dont need to go to class at all if dont want. I got an A and went about 5 times. You will get a textbook and a notebook that he puts together. All you do in class is take notes in the notebook, so just copy them from a friend or take turns going. Basically if you study the notes and Read the text its easy. 3 midterms and one final. They tests are pretty easy, they dont cover a lot of material since there are 4 tests (a good thing). He is a pretty nice guy, and a definate liberal hippy. If you can find a more exciting teacher, take someone else, if not, Beardsley isnt too shabby

This was by far the most boring class I've ever taken at Cal Poly. Beardsley talks about god knows what and if you even have a slight case of ADD, like myself, you're screwed. I dont know if there is another Econ teacher you can take, but if there is, definitely take <i>them</i>!

This class is so super boring and pretty much reiterates what you learned in high school econ. He tries hard to deliver a lecture that could interest some, but his style is definately not gonna appeal to most of the class. Anyways, this class is super easy as Beardsley will do everything possible to make sure that you can get an A or B with minimal effort. Just read the green book and you will be fine because the test material is only the stuff there. He lets you write notes on your scantron and if that is not enough, he gives you the opportunity to retake a test. You'll be bored to death, but the class is easy.

I caught myself falling asleep more than a couple times in his class--so like everyone says, he is extremely boring w/ his monotonous voice. So don't take him if you don't have to. The class isn't very hard; just memorize the green book, take the practice tests, and read the text.

Professor Beardsley, though boring, knew what he was talking about, but sometimes what he was saying got a bit confusing. I got confused quite a bit, and went to every lecture. There is no homework besides reading, and even then I skipped some and still got a B. It's not a completely rigorous course, but make sure you take good notes and read over your green book. Professor Beardsley is kind of paranoid about cheating and so make sure you're not looking around during tests. The tests are not too difficult, but still a bit challenging. The course itself was okay, but like everyone has said..Professor Beardsley is quite boring.

He's a jerk. I E-mailed him with a question, and he insulted me and didn't answer the question. He's a pompous hippie and loves taxes. The class is boring. Read the crap in the notebook you have to buy because he hides answers in it. Same with the internet assignment at the end of the quarter

Booorrrring...thank god i made it through his class before i died. beardsley loved to here himself talk, talk, and talk. make sure you have a friend in this class so you dont fall asleep. the practice questions really helped and the book was alright. if you havent taken econ before i give you 2 words my friend- good luck.

He is definately a smart guy but in my opinion is not fit to be a teacher. The class is a easy A/B if you go to class and take good notes. But, the problem is going to class and taking good notes because it is so insanely boring. Good luck staying awake.

I never expected Econ 201 to be an even moderately exciting class. However, this class exceeded my expectations of what a grand waste of time college life can be. Please don't waste your money on the book. All you have to do it buy his greenbook of notes and go to class. This sounds easy, but it is surprisingly difficult. For two hours, two days a week, you will be crying tears of boredom. He will spend 45 minutes going over 1 paragraph of notes. Then he will give you ten minutes to do a pointless example. During this time, he will call on students (towards the front of the class) that are zoning out and ask them for the answers. He then does his best to humiliate these students with his not so witty disrespectful remarks. And just when you think the class is over... there is still one hour left to cover 1 more paragraph of notes. As far as grading goes, there are 3 midterms, and one slightly longer exam (not comprehensive) during finals week. You also have the opportunity to retake on of the first 3 midterms on the final exam day. The tests are simply the greenbook notes. All you have to do is write everything down on the back of the scantron (which he tells you to do). There is no work outside of class, but I still really wish I never had to take this class. If Beardsley accomplishes one thing, it is this: After taking his class, you will never want to hear the word Econ ever again. I learned nothing about economics and if you take Beardsley, you probably won't learn anything either. Easy A/B if you can handle agonizing boredom.

DONT TAKE HIM!!! Boringest lecture ever, he did bad at teaching u have to go to class cause just like most of the things he talks about are in the test. Just but the greenbook thats it and ull do fine. Try to take someone else all his questions on the midterms are confusing

He's a hilarious guy if you just sit back and listen to his extreme pronunciations and such. He's boring as hell though other than that. He goes off on endless examples that then lead to tangents and 2 hours feels more like 8. The tests make sense only sometimes and don't think he's amazing after the first ridiculously easy midterm. There's no homework, but when everything is based on tests, I've seen others fall into trouble. Beware.

Beardsley obviously knows his stuff, but he's not so good at conveying that in an even mildy interesting manner. If you can manage to stay awake during the lecture, you'll learn a lot, but that's easier said than done. My advice: keep up with the reading, take good notes, and drink lots of caffeine before class!

This course was incredibly boring, the material was okay but Beardsley just drones on and on, taking two hours to cover material that could easily be covered in half an hour. He's not an evil person, and at times the class is even intersting, but for the most part I was dragging myself to class and wishing I was somewhere else while I was in class. This being said the course is fairly easy. If you read the Green Book, look up the key terms, and do the practice tests and problem sets you should be fine. The tests have some sort of tricky questions, so read them carefully. You DO NOT need the real text book, Beardsley was all full of the text book on the first day and warned us not to use an old edition, I used an old edition and only used it to look up key terms and the course was still easy. Just get the green book and maybe an old text book (you can even share), go to class (this is the challenging part) and you'll be fine.

Find another class. This guy is flat out a bad teacher, and on top of that he is incredibly rude. He doesn't answer the questions you ask and he wastes more class time than anyone I have ever seen repeating himself and going over directions again and again. He is just an all around bad professor.

this teacher is such a mean guy and just basically a jerk. this class is so incredibly boring also. this class was in the big lecture hall and even if you were in the back and fell asleep, he would come wake you up in front of everyone. there are three midterms and a final. you can retake a midterm also after the final to improve your score. really boring class so dont take it unless you have to.

Beardsley kind of sucks. His class is painfully boring. The guy just couldn't grab my attention. This class sucks and Beardsley doesn't help at all.

Beardsley's first two midterms are ridiculously easy for anyone who took high school econ, but the third test is a lot of math that is not hard, but easy to screw up. The final is pretty much the same as the third midterm. He tries to make anecdotes that are mildly interesting or at least not dry economics, but it almost never works. Perfect attendance is not manditory for an A, and neither is the text book. I never opened it. Just use the greenbook sample questions and key terms and youll be fine. And READ THE WELCOMING AND GOODBYE MESSAGES.

Beardsley is not the man for the job. I was told not to take him but i decided to anyways. He was a fair (at best) grader because they were all multiple choice tests. He is EXTREMELY BORING and has a very dull and droning voice. He lets you retake a test at the end and hide extra credit questions in his "greenbook" thing so look out for those. I went to every single lecture period and still got a D- in this shitty class. i recommend anyone else for ECON-201 than Beardsley because of how boring he is and how much of an ass he can be at times. Don't expect this class to be easy by any means...it sneaks up on you if you don't read and study regularly.

Rude, does not like people to ask questions, but grades subjectively on participation, very boring. Grading policies are fair enough except he reserves the right to lower or raise your grade based on how you participate in a class of 200+ people. DON'T TAKE IF YOU ARE AN UNEXPERIENCED FRESHMAN!

He can be very boring, but stick with him he gets better. He has funny moments. Most of the time your laughing at his way of trying to be funny then laughing with him, but he is a good teacher. He makes coming to class and taking notes very easy. You MUST go to class though or else you will be lost and copying them from someone doesnt help. He is explains everything in great detail. Just sit in the front so you can stay awake.

Fairly easy and basic class if you have taken econ before. Some very basic math if you can remember which equations are for what. Not too exciting. You do not really need to read the book. Just go to the lectures and take notes. 3 midterms and a non-cumulative final. All multiple choice. He allows notes on the back of the scantron. The day of the final you can make up one of the 3 midterms if you choose to. For the final he has you do all this online stuff. Make sure you do it all and READ it ALL!

He is extremely boring in lecture. I probably tried at least 10 different ways to attempt to stay awake during lecture and failed miserably. It doesn't help, of course, that he lectures in the huge 260 seat hall in the business building. However, a smaller classroom would not probably make him any more interesting. His mullet and monotone voice need to go.

Beardsley was painfully boring in lecture, but some of the material was quite interesting. I usually did ok on the midterms, and pretty much did all my learning the day before the tests by reading the textbook and greenbook notes that he put together. His practice tests are very helpful and reflect theactual questions, and his "hot tips" (9 questions that are directly related to the test) are great. He basically gives you all te resources to get an easy A, but its up to you to take advantage of them.

Unless you love sleeping in the uncomfortable chairs in the Business Silo, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Beardsley is GREAT at teaching you NOTHING... I took his class, and got a C-(barely), and then took AGB 212... same concept, different teacher and got a 94%... there is something WRONG THERE!!! If you read the book, you'll learn more than his retarded "Green Booklet" but you also spend $80 on a book that's only real use is as a coaster OR to shim a wobbly dresser... TAKE ECON 222 BECAUSE IT WILL COUNT TOWARDS OTHER REQUIREMENTS... I WAS TRICKED INTO THIS CLASS!!!

Beardsly is one of the worst professors I have had at Cal Poly. His class is extremely boring and he doesn't even try to make it interesting. He goes off on tangets and does not even cover the required material. His teaching style is nonexistent and I would NOT recommend taking this teacher. I retook the class with Marlow and got a B. Take him instead!

This guy was ridiculous! You're given a green book to fill out and his lectures are so boring that you fall asleep..when you wake up he is still talking about the same thing! His test are alright, study the notes and listen to his examples in class, these specific examples show up on the test. He uses a microphone and seems to forget because he's always coughing into it and clearing his throat..it's lovely. The only positive to this teacher is that you are allowed one makeup test out of the 5, so you can redeem a bad test grade. Try to avoid him unless you want to find a place to sleep.

This guy is the worst professor I ever had. This is the first time I've had a professor that annoyed me every time I looked at or listened to him. The only good thing is that the class is so easy. You do not need to get the textbook. Just get the "green" book and study off the notes you take in that. As long as you somehow find a way to stay awake during his lectures and study the notes, you'll most likely do fine.

WORST TEACHER EVER. I can't believe Cal Poly has let this worthless excuse of a teacher to teach for so long and torture so many students. His lectures are WORTHLESS. Going to class was a huge waste of my time, I don't know why I went every time. I hope I never see him again. Thank God he's retiring.

Oh God. Terrible, terrible professor. But you really haven't got much of a choice. The most interesting thing about a course taught by Beardsley is the horrifyingly hypnotic pregnancy belly he seems to be sporting.

Professor Beardsley is an ok guy; however, Econ 201 is probably the most boring subject at Cal Poly. It's very easy and Beardsley makes it even easier by giving you some questions before the actual test. Just do the greenbook practice tests and go over the greenbook lecture notes. I didn't even do the problem sets. Don't worry if you screw up on one midterm; he allows you to make up one midterm after the final. My biggest advice for keeping awake and paying attention during lecture is well... take a shot or two (probably not before EVERY class, haha). I'm not kidding, it makes the material much more interesting, and if this class is your last for the day, it's even better!

I think people rated Beardsley based on the class not his teaching. Econ is boring... enough said. How could a 2 hour econ class be exciting? Beardsley is there to teach us, he covers the material 10x with 20 examples. He has practice tests, and most his notes and graphs are in "The Green Book". The big pointers are show up to class, if you ditch you wont do well (you wont know the examples), if you have a laptop bring it (it helped me stay awake more than i took notes) but it was helpful to type the notes. You take almost 5 tests which allows you to forget the past. Overall it was an easy class.

I wanted to kill myself every...single...endless...day of class... He just keeps talking and talking and talking and talking....foreverrrrrrrrrrrr......and he yells at you every time you turn your head slightly to the left or right... I would STRONGLY advise anybody enrolled in his course to drop out or get another teacher. I would rather eat an entire jar of mayo than take his class again.

As you can tell, this review was done long after I took the course. Dr. Beardsley was a nice person, but was grumpy while he taught. For example, if a student fell asleep in class, he would angrily walk up the stairs in the auditorium-like classroom just to wake the student up. As for the material, not easy and not hard. THe more you study the notes he gives you, the better you'd do on the tests. His lectures, though, were not helpful.

Beardsley's class is boring. He can present the materials very clearly, and his tests were fair. The book was hard to understand, but he doesn't really teach from the book. He summarized the whole chapter and teach from his notes, along with whatever knowledge he knows of the topic. In other words, many times I found the lecture and the book irrelevant, though I understand both of them separately. One other thing, you HAVE to sit in the front of the room in order to hear him, he talks very soft and quick, in a monotonous voice! This guy doesn't seem like he needs to swallow!

Well, Dr. Beardsley is not bad, but not well too. You can expected to get a B if you do know the materials. Oh...and he doesn't take attendence.

This man should be fired. Avoid him at all costs. He is the most miserable person I have ever met and he tries his best to pass that along to his students. Avoid his office hours-all he does is demean everyone. I've seen at least 5 girls run out of this man's office sobbing. Seriously, avoid taking econ from this guy. If at all possible, take Elliott instead.
