Gotsick is a cool and laid back professor. He grades pretty leniently but gives good feedback on essays. Overall, I recommend him. We do a lot of helpful in class writings on whatever topic he wants us to write about. We can write it any way we want. No BS structure, just our thoughts on a piece of paper. Take Gotsick, he's a beast.

Mr. Gotsick is super cool, forreal. If you have the opportunity to take him, definitely do it. Simple class; just some in-class writings (full credit if you try/put words on paper) and some essays. Had him at 8am four times a week and he managed to keep me from hating his class, which is saying something.

Mr. Gotsick is the man! He is a very sweet, helpful guy. His class can be a little boring, but he does his best and makes the material interesting! He understand what its like to be in college and take a bunch of other classes, and gives you an appropriate amount of work throughout the quarter. He was so supportive and helpful with revising my essay, and puts a fun twist on his assignments. He's a great guy and an awesome teacher! Take him if you have the chance!

Gotsick is awesome! He is super laidback, chill, and an actual professional comedian. Four essays (not difficult) and the only "work" is in-class writings where if you put words on a paper you will get credit. I hate english classes and this guy made it actually enjoyable. TAKE HIM

Gotsick is the best teacher I have had at Cal Poly so far. He is super easy to understand and makes an effort to get to know students which is awesome. You do small in class writings every day in class for less than 10 minutes and then he collects all of your in class writings and just gives everyone a 15/15. Required reading is 5 pages from a small textbook like 3 nights out of the week. You do 4 essays for the entire year and he allows you to revise 1 of them before the quarter ends. I started every essay the night before the due date and got an A.

Gotsick is such a great teacher! I really recommend taking him, he's really funny and helps the class interact with each other. His homework is just reading but honestly it's really short and his essays are really easy to write because the prompts aren't that hard. He makes sure you understand the prompt and is quick to answer your emails if you have any questions. He's a very helpful teacher and really understanding to your needs. He doesn't have a final, and finishes his class during dead week. You could say his final is more of a presentation, but they're really fun and easy. He takes attendance, you can be late 4 times and then after that he takes quarter grade percentages off so your A+ would become just an A. So I would suggest going to his class, it's an easy A and it's really not that tedious or hard.

Straight up G. Seriously, best English teacher I've ever had. He clearly outlines all the assignments and due dates in his syllabus, and is very clear when it comes to instructions for essays. He allows a 24 hour grace period for submitting essays and also one re-write for the quarter. He prompts interesting class discussions, and all the readings he allows you to better your own skills as a writer by analyzing the writing of others.

Mr. Gotsick was chill and funny. He shows videos in class occasionally to mix things up. Just do the daily in class writings, assigned homework readings, and inquiries and you'll be fine. There were only 3 essays throughout the quarter and he lets you revise one of the first two if you don't like the grade you got.

GOTSICK IS THE BEST TEACHER EVER. I really enjoyed his class, you have no homework, 3 essays, and a final video thing. His class is overall pretty easy. Your "homework" is to read a past student's essay in the Fresh Voices book, you also have 3 inquires due but they are just a page paper on your opinion about an article he gives you. Each class consists of a journal of a random topic and discussion of the essay you were suppose to read the night before. He is a fair grader on essays, go talk to him if you need help. He will help you a lot with what he wants to see. You can revise your first or second essay you do. I highly recommend it because it will improve your grades. He is hilarious and very witty. I highly recommend him if you want to have a good GE.

Gotsick is a great guy and made the class very easygoing. The material is easy and the assignments are straightforward. We only wrote 2 or 3 papers in the quarter and the subjects weren't too difficult. The final consisted of a 2 and a half minute presentation on anything you want. Definitely recommend if you need to take ENGL 134.

I thought this was a pretty easy class. You have three big essays, a presentation, reading responses, and participation that all go into determining your grade. I thought Gotsick was a pretty easy grader. I have never been that great at writing and I was totally expecting to get a B in this class but instead it was an easy A. He will know every student's name which is pretty cool for an entry level English class. We went through tons of different essay examples that were very similar to what he was expecting from each of our essays. He would tell us what he did and did not like in each of the example essays so I had a very good idea of how to write each assignment. Overall I would say it was a great English class and I had a good time for my first college level English class.

Gotsick used to do standup comedy, so he's a chill dude from the start. Super easy class, just how a GE should be. The 3 essays he assigns are a combined 85% of your grade, but they are all fairly simple. You can also rewrite 1 of the first 2 essays if you get a crummy grade on them, which is unlikely since he's a lenient grader. The other 15% boils down to a short presentation about anything you want (seriously, anything) at the end of the quarter and occasionally responding to the Fresh Voices readings, which I'd recommend actually reading because they help a lot with the 3 essays. TAKE THIS CLASS, and don't expect it to be the one class you spend hours every week stressing about.

Gotsick is by far one of the coolest teachers on campus. If you can't decide who to take for English 134, seriously take him. He knows everyone's names by the end of the first week, we only have 3 essays, 3 inquiries, reading responses and a pechakucha presentation at the end of the quarter for our final. There's no midterm, and no final test. For one of the first two essays, he allows a rewrite and his grading on the essays are pretty lenient. His prompts are very broad, making it easy to pretty much write whatever you want. For the first essay, you just have to write a 3-4 page paper about time in your life that you think affected you in some way. The second essay was a 5-6 page profile of anyone you want, and you kind of just told their life story. The final essay was a 5-6 page research paper on literally anything. The only homework he gives out are short readings in fresh voices and sometimes a response. Definitely do the readings, they help you a lot with your essays and they're pretty much what you discuss the entire class. Overall, Gotsick is an amazing professor, and he doesn't make his class to difficult and he made me enjoy English again!

One of the coolest and best teachers I've ever had, especially for English. Just the fact that I took the liberty to write him this review is a testament to his ability as a teacher. I recommend him if you are going to take ENG 134, there isn't a better guy for the job. Straight Up G

TAKE THIS CLASS. This class has the ideal amount of work for a GE. There are only three essays: a 3-4 page narrative (30% of your grade), a 4-5 page profile (30% of your grade), and a 5-7 page argumentative essay (20% of your grade). The rest of your grade is made up of reading responses (one page written responses to easy readings, 10% of your grade) and a final multimedia presentation (10% of your grade). There is NO midterm or final, you are allowed to rewrite one of your essays & resubmit for a higher grade, and you are given a 24 grace period to submit your essays. Mr. Gotsick cares about his students' success and he is a fair, unbiased grader . Not to mention he learns all of his students' name within the first week. He is very open to students' opinions and encourages thoughtful discussions in class. Mr. Gotsick is a very popular English teacher here at Poly! In high school, I used to dread English, but this class was very manageable and tolerable. This is a LOW stress class! You CAN get easily get a good grade in English 134 if you take the course with Gotsick.

By far the best professor I have had at Cal Poly. He is super easy to talk to. Basically he was a student in the class as well as the professor. Really laid back and made the class fun. 50 minutes a day for four days was not bad at all! He grades pretty decently. I am a terrible essay writer and got a B+. Be active in class and you will do fine. Small 24 person class was like a big family. Do not procrastinate and go to the writing and rhetoric center for help. You can get an A if you put a little effort in.

Gotsick is a really nice guy who is very approachable. If you are looking for an extremely easy class take Gotsick. If you have him look over your rough draft and take his suggestions before you turn it in, you are almost guaranteed an A. Unfortunately, he doesn't teach you a lot. I am not the greatest writer and was wanting to learn new techniques, but this is not the class for growth. During lecture, you just sit there and try not to fall asleep, learning absolutely nothing. If you are looking for an easy A, he is great. If you are looking to learn, try a different professor.

Professor Gotsick is the best choice if you're taking english 134. He is extremely friendly and approachable. I mean the guy used to do stand up comedy what do you expect. I enjoyed his class so much that I honestly did not mind at all going to class at 4pm on a Friday. That being said, I am not the greatest writer but I managed to get an A- in the class. (I could've gotten an A if I rewrote my profile essay but I had no time to do so. Took my initial grade B+) He grades EXTREMELY fair and in class he tells us what he is looking for on our essays and we sample other essays students in the past wrote. tl;dr: TAKE GOTSICK! Wait another quarter if you have to

The biggest perk to having this professor was we only had to write 3 essays compared to 4 like most English classes need to write. We wrote a narrative, profile, and argumentative essay. There's no final so instead we did a "tell me about yourself" presentation which was very informal. His lectures are always relevant to the essay you are writing and we did a whole class period of peer review for each essay we wrote. The only additional thing we did was a group project where we had to create a video on an element of English. We did ours on sentence fragments and were able to finish it within 4 hours. Overall, definitely recommend him.

Our grade was based on 3 essays and the final presentation. He is a fair grader, and is super helpful during office hours. The final presentation seems overwhelming (20 minutes) and he is very understanding of this when he grades. If you have a heavy workload, I would definitely recommend him!

Gotsick was a pretty cool teacher. At the beginning of the quarter he gives you a syllabus detailing what will happen each class period and he stays almost 100% true to that which is nice. Each class ties into something having to do with the current upcoming essay. Overall, I found his classes pretty pointless. It was just a lot of common sense stuff and stuff I've known forever. He is a fair grader on the essays and if you go to office hours he will go over your essays with you. Your grade is made up of DSRs (short writing assignments worth 10pts each) with an average of 1-2 per week, 3 major essays (100pts), and a "digital artifact." I thought he was clear about his expectations and would recommend him.

TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!! Gotsick is a great professor and pretty fair grader. You only have to do about 2 essays the whole quarter and a couple short writing assignments but they are really easy. Gotsick is the man, easiest English professor ever. We literally sat in class everyday and talked about a FreshVoices reading that we were supposed to do the night before. There are three essays, as long as you try, you're chillin. His final was kinda hard, study fallacies and just pay attention to what he says in class because he will throw things on there that he's once said. Overall, awesome dude, also if you want to make him laugh bring up the fact that he used to be a comedian.

Gotsick is super awesome! His classes were kind of boring, but they were only for 50 minutes so the time flew by. He is a super nice and understanding guy and cracks jokes every so often that are fairly effective in lightening the mood. I felt very comfortable in the class just asking and saying whatever came to my mind, and he was very receptive and open minded to everything I and everyone else had to say. Not too hard of a grader either, even though the final was kinda wack. Definitelyyy would recommend taking him though if given the chance.

Professor Gotsick is a friendly guy. He's easy to talk to and doesn't overexplain concepts. We wrote three papers in this course, the last being a research paper that we briefly presented our stance on to the class. A day or two before the paper is due, we would have "rough draft workshops", where we peer-edited each other's drafts (take advantage of this!!!). I highly recommend you consider him when signing up for this GE.

Gotsick is so darn chill and just a genuinely nice guy. Only 3 essays in the whole class and a final (which I thought was a joke, like did we really need one?). Nonetheless, he cares about your papers and gives you decent help if you go into office hours. Only downside is that his lectures are really boring, because he mostly goes over stuff that I personally learned in 8th grade and high school (i.e. MLA format, ethos logos pathos, etc). I'm pretty sure he knows that people would just skip his class due to this, which is why he takes attendance every day. However he doesn't really care if you do other things in class so feel free to zone out from time to time. I'd recommend him for English 134!

He sounds like he is a good teacher for ENGL 134 but he wasn't a good teacher at all for 145. He was not clear on anything and I had no idea what was going on the entire quarter. Good professor, the class is 70% individual assignments and project and 30% group work. He grades fairly and uses a wide range of technical communication genres for the assignments. No final, instead you make an ePortfolio and write a 6-8 page recommendation report, but you have 2-3 weeks for the Report and the ePortfolio is very simple. Only complaint is that the group for the first group project we did were our groups for every group project from then on, which can either be great or terrible.
