Ugh, I hate this guy. Not the worst lecturer I had; and he certainly comes across as open minded and thought-provoking--but he TRIES so hard to be this "cool, laid back professor" type. He shows his true colors every once in a while if you ever question his theories or just pay close attention. He's full of sh*t is what I'm trying to say. But since he teaches a lot of mandatory classes for Psych majors, just take him if you have to (it'll be an easy A; his classes/tests are very formulaic and not really mentally stimulating beyond a pseudo-awe-inspiring quote he'll drop every once in a while to come across as deep to his predominately female class [I even heard him rip off a joke I heard Trevor Noah say on the Daily Show and he tried to present it as his original idea, like he thought of it on the spot]; this guy is just gross and intellectually dishonest).

I really don't understand why people like this guy. I can't even give an explanation other than he rubs me the wrong way. Not even a bad lecturer/professor per se, but is boring and I left both classes I had with him feeling I gained zero practical knowledge of anything. There was just a haze of jumbled, useless psych trivia leftover that was committed to memory an hour or so before his bullshit multiple choice exams

Very good instructor- facilitated class discussion in an interesting way and tried to make material relevant to us as students. The tests are not an easy A, however. Not all material is covered in lecture- reading text is a must. Online study guides through the text help, as well as seeing him during office hours. 3 tests, one paper, one slightly cumulative final, and several extra credit opportunities (research and give a speech on a relative topic).

Estrada is an amazing Professor and I would HIGHLY recommend taking him! I was super intimidated going into his personality class as a freshman but I have never regretted the decision. His tests are very straight forward and he gives you lots of chances to succeed via extra credit. He is so knowledgable about the subject and is extremely open to ideas, questions, and classroom discussions. Overall great guy!

Dr. Estrada is great. He knows how to balance fun with work, and his use of class discussion gives a chance to further your understanding and expand upon the content he is sharing. The class isn't difficult as long as you read and go to class.

Such a bro! He is one of the top teachers in the Psych department. He is kind, encouraging, supportive, just an incredible person. I talk to him about something in office hours, and he emails me about it and asks me in class if I understand better now or how the issue is progressing. Honestly I would want to hang out with him. I am going to use him for any advice I ever need in the future, and any classes I can take with him.

Estrada is one of the 3 best Psych professors. Any chance to take a class with him, take it. He does have a hatred of phones, but as long as you don't touch it, and join in class discussions, he will be friendly and helpful to a fault. One of the most intelligent and important people you need to meet.

Excellent professor, interesting lecture, fair exams (written or scantron, your choice) he does want you in class physically and mentally (don't be on your phone, he'll call you out).

Dr. Estrada is so awesome!! Highly recommend him. I have test anxiety and all his tests you can do either multiple choice or essay which is so great because it allows you to write thoroughly and show him everything you DO know compared to multiple choice which doesn't give you a chance. He is very straight forward and responds over email, and office hours are helpful if you need them!

I thought Dr. Estrada was a really cool professor. He made lecture interesting and was very approachable. The class was 3 tests and a slightly cumulative final, an online article with a quiz, one study guide, and a 3 page paper. Overall a good class!

Take Estrada for the easy class and occasionally interesting class conversations. Be weary of him for what some other ppl have commented on below--this guy gives me an off feeling. Not a bad professor, but he does seem a bit, as someone said below, "two faced". He acts super nice and sensitive and then one day someone was on there phone like a minute before class was dismissed and he FREAKED OUT. IT was weird; I understand his policy and I try to respect it--but after seeing his over-the-top reaction I think I see what others were getting at. I really liked him for most of the quarter, but now he kind of gives me the creeps. Maybe he's got some personal stuff going on that's bothering him(?); either way, I'm just going to try to avoid him best I can for the rest of my time here at poly. But if you're in a situation where you need the class and he's the only professor left available teaching it that quarter, don't sweat it, his tests were always a breeze. Just don't even think about touching your phone during class, other wise you could trigger this dude's inevitable mental breakdown.

I had Estrada for personality and HR, he's an alright professor and his tests are all real straightforward. Definitely more interesting in 305 but also had a lot to offer in 323 since he does a lot of counseling work on his own. I liked the classes but I feel kind of sorry for him personally; he has this kind of 'put-on' persona in class and then I see him walking around campus, looking down at the ground, with his hands in his pockets. Seems like a lonely, sad, little man.

Dr. Estrada is a really nice guy. His lectures are fun and informative. I can tell he really enjoys teaching. His tests are really straight forward, he doesn't pull any tricks. I really like him as a person and a professor. I took him in the Spring and Personality became one of my favorite classes. I will take more classes with him if I am able to in the future

Estrada is a really cool guy and an interesting lecturer. Plus I'd recommend his classes for anyone needing a GPA boost; all the tests were super straightforward. I never even had to read from the book the entire quarter. Just take good notes, maybe review them once, and then just pick whatever answer sounds right or the most politically correct--his material is very simple and he never tries to trick his students

Estrada's psy 305 is my favorite class Ive taken in college so far. A mixture of incredibly interesting material and Estrada's ability to communicate about the subject made lectures awesome. The exams are moderately easy and the final wasn't cumulative. Also offered two extra credit opportunities throughout the quarter. Can't recommend taking this class with him enough.

This guy is a creep. I thought he was off and then one day in his office hours he behaved VERY inappropriate towards me. Ugh I can't stand that most psych majors like him cuz I swear I see right through him. He is FAKE as F**K. Two-faced. He puts on a cool, friendly, thought-provoking kind of vibe in class but this guy is just a two-faced little creep. You should avoid him, I might even be reporting him to UPD

Reading all these bad comments makes me so sad, Estrada is such a dope guy, taking him this spring was so much fun!! I'm almost guaranteed an A in this class and I love coming to lecture, maybe he's changed? He has a kid now and seems so open to many different view points, even being the annoying psych major that challenges so many view points he always makes me feel understood and that my personal viewpoint is interesting even if it does not correlate with him! Awesome dude man people are just mean lol

PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO THE OTHER BAD RATINGS!!!!! ESTRADA IS SUCH A HOMIEE!!!! His tests are SO straight forward if you do the readings and go to the lectures!! plus he makes his class interactive you don't want to miss it!! I participated fairly often in class discussion and he enjoyed it! He is not an asshole and takes other peoples opinions well unlike other ratings try to make him seem... super understanding, (back story- the quarter I took him I was super overwhelmed and semi slept through the beginning of a midterm and he still allowed me to take it after showing up late, T GOD!!) I sincerely miss this class and he's just such a cool dude, you learn such interesting things in this class. Overall, the class is not too overwhelming like he just presents things pretty easily, I would def recommend!!!!

fuck all these reviews estrada is a HOMIEeee. I have a strong tendency to dislike professors and seriously he put me in a trance every class, he is so so so smart he's clearly well read and has information for every question you ask. Seriously favorite class, went into office hours before every test and he would go over every single thing i didn't understand, pretty sure multiple times he would work with me for over an hour. He is very genuine, I'm very confused with the two-faced reviews because I think he's just a little shy/awkward and people miss read that because he is a VERY genuine teacher that is passionate and knowledgable what he teaches. Could not recommend this class enough, sure I studied an insane amount but I can not begin to explain how much I've learned and how interesting the material is.. IT never felt like studying. Take. This. Class.

Okay I genuinely don't know why Estrada has such low rating because I love him so much. I took this class my spring quarter freshman year and I still remember how much I liked him as a professor. He is very straightforward about his material and what he wants you to know. Personality is one of my favorite classes that I've taken partly because of him and because of the material. I don't think this class is normally a lecture, but my section was. There was 5 point reflections due every week which were pretty easy and no longer than one page. I think there was 4 midterms and a final which sounds awful but it was actually really helpful because of how he taught. He would teach two approaches to personality and then give us an exam so the tests weren't too difficult or filled with too much information. I 10/10 recommend this class and him. He is DOPE. I wish people were nicer to him on here

I really liked Estrada! He really clearly explains each Personality theory and is interested in it! Also, he's really humble and genuine which I appreciate. Chill class compared to Don's, take it! ~~~~~~~~~ I didn't really use the book, so I would just recommend sticking to studying the powerpoint slides. Also, the assignments (movie report, quiz, and a list of questions that is basically a study guide for the first test) are pretty easy and he doesn't grade harshly.

Can't stand this teacher. Do not trust this man. I would never take him for anything. This class relied on student volunteers to be used as participants, and if you happen to get a volunteer who doesn't take their responsibility seriously, this teacher will totally pin it on you and offer no help. He actually blamed a class member for his volunteer's flakiness. He has major anger issues, and about blew a fuse when a class member was checking the time on their phone...mistaken for texting. Dude needs a major chill pill.

He is very insightful and dedicated to his work. If you want to go into counseling, he is a very helpful person to talk to. Go to his office hours for help on the papers, read the book to get a good grade on tests.

Estrada was a great Professor when I took him for Helping Relationship this past year. Insightful lecturer and he gives fair tests. I really recommend taking him for this class, his expertise is in psychiatry and it really shows. very interesting class that you'll get a greater experience out of if you take it with Estrada; couldn't recommend him enough!

DON'T KNOW WHY HIS RATINGS ARE SO LOW. GREAT GUY. Seriously!! He is so cool and I did not get a "fake" vibe from him at all. He genuinely loves what he teaches and wants students to come to him when they need help. He gets angry with phones or talking during his lecture but if that's what you're really concerned about then go back to high school because it's not that hard to stay silent or just text off your laptop for 2 hours!! Readings are assigned but not really required because they're the same as the lectures. You have two midterms, a group presentation, and a short paper. I was dreading the paper but it took me two days and is more opinion based so it's not hard. The tests were difficult but do-able with preparation. The class itself is really useful and informative and he knows what he's talking about. I hope his ratings are raised over the next few quarters because I never had a bad experience with Estrada (I'm not a try hard book worm either definitely an average joe) and I hope to take another class with him in the future

Estrada is a joke. Sure the classes are easy and you can get a B without ever studying (literally never glancing in the textbook) but him an educator is laughable. First, as a few other have mentioned, this guy just seems very disingenuous. He's fake. He tries to talk all cool, sensitive, and profound but frankly I never heard an original idea come out of his mouth. Also, if you disagree with him on certain issues prepare to have him slight you and say little bits of condescension as he pretends to act mature about it. This guy is a creep. Seriously; h kind of guy that friend-zones a woman and then molests her when she's had a few too many to drink. And BTW, I'm not bitter about my grade (I never studied once and got a B-); I just don't respect this professor as a man, plain and simple. So sure take the class if you don't care and just want the easy grade but don't expect anything but bullshit spewing from this douchebags mouth. As a psych major I would tell anyone outside of the department to NOT take a class with him as it's embarrassing to the major: take a class with Williams, even Dr Caldwell--say what you want about her, at least she's not intellectually dishonest like this clown

Professor is two-faced. He pretends to care about the students and portrays himself as helpful, but when you talk to him individually he doesn't want to hear your thoughts if they differ from his nor is he open to hearing feedback. He claims to students in class if they have difficulties to keep him apprised, but once you do, he becomes immature, defensive, and hostile. He is extremely passive-aggressive when emailing you, which is vastly different than when you talk to him in person. He had two reactive situations with my class in one quarter and believed we were out to get him (told the class the first time). I wish I could say that he will be a good professor as he teaches more since he is a newer one, but his lack of awareness of himself and others astounds me. He had some redeeming moments throughout the quarter, but they in no way overshadow his negative behaviors. This class was required and he was the only one who taught it. The tests were fair (straight from the book) and the structure of class was fine. It was just his behavior that is inexcusable. He should not be teaching graduate students. He is not mentally prepared for students to disagree and handle it objectively.
