One of the best teachers at Poly. Not a tough grader, a super passionate sweet lady who loves teaching a class. She is amazing professor and her class was so fun to take, I am so glad I got her and I highly recommend it!!

Great professor! She explains the material quite thoroughly in class so the textbook is rarely necessary. Grading is fairly easy and the assignments aren't incredibly time. Tests and assignments aren't too difficult and she offers extra credit so getting a good grade isn't hard with good work ethic. Overall, the course is interesting and an excellent way to satisfy some GE requirements

This class is extremely easy and very interesting! She is also an awesome professor who really cares about the students. She is very nice and gives you so much extra credit opportunities you could almost pass the class with just the extra credit essays. Not only is it an easy class, but it is also really interesting and the group project was really fun! I suggest bringing in food for your group project, everyone in my class did and it made them much more fun!

Professor Derelian was a great teacher, and a super sweet lady all around. You can get an A just by paying attention in class. In addition, the class was super interesting! I would DEFINITELY recommend taking this class, or any other class she is teaching.

Dr. Derelian is the most eccentric, knowledgeable, understanding person I have ever met! She is extremely well educated about nutrition, and has done her fair share of college. TAKE HER CLASS. You will learn a lot, it is not a lot of work and she is a fair grader. Her tests are super easy. I LOVE Dr. Derelian and I promise you will too. She is AMAZING!

Dr. Derelian is such a great professor. She presents material very well and it is clear she is very enthusiastic about the course. She keeps students engaged and has a way of bringing all the fun in learning about food culture. There's one midterm, a take home midterm(essay writing), and a final. The final is a presentation and people usually bring foods of their country to share with the class. Definitely a stress-relief during finals week. Pretty easy class! Just look over the notes and handouts she gives you and you'll get an A. Loved this class and an amazing professor and I would definitely recommend her.

Absolutely fantastic- I'm honestly so amazed by her and her quality. She is so one of a kind and her enthusiasm brightens my day. She is seriously one of the best professors I've had, and I'm sure I'll still be saying that when I graduate from here. She is very clearly passionate and knows her stuff. I thought that a Customs and Cultures class would be something I'd be indifferent towards because I am quite informed about customs and cultures, but HELL NO WAS I WRONG. She presents fascinating material and is able to tie everything together so perfectly. I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for this woman- can you tell I love her? You're the luckiest person on this planet if you get her- the class is so, so easy and so fun. In addition, she usually lets you out 45ish minutes each class session. It's awesome!

Derelian is okay. She's not great as a professor but she also isn't horrible. Her assignments are super easy, they take some time but she often gives everyone an A. Its really hard to do poorly in the class, its just not that interesting of a class. As a person, she is super cute in how she dresses, she comes to class with a different colored outfit everyday and matches her clothes wonderfully. She's also very passionate about what she is teaching.

She is such a great teacher! She explains the material in such an exciting way, would definitely reccomend this class for anyone looking to fulfill a GE in this area

This was the easiest class I have taken so far as a GE (fulfills D4 and USCP) but also the most interesting. It is super easy to stay engaged and the assignments are very interesting. Class always got out 30-60 minutes early and the tests were never hard, one was a take home midterm and the final was just a project. Dr. D is also very entertaining and knowledgable, with a lot of experience in her studies. 10/10 would recommend

While Dr. D is a very lenient grader when it comes to assignments, but do not expect the same when it comes to her midterms. The first midterm is not too challenging but beware if you do not write the terms she is EXACTLY looking for. The second midterm is take-home though so it is a little easier. The great thing about her class though is that the final is a group project, but since most people take this class to fulfill a GE, your group can suck as mine did. She does offer lots of opportunities for extra credit though if you do mess up on your first midterm. Also when she was grading group presentations as part of the final, she does it off her head without a rubric so she does not give you a guideline, just go first to get a 100. While Dr. Derelian is a really nice woman, who is very passionate about her field of study, she is just not very consistent and it is kind of hard to figure out what you need to do to get a good grade. ALSO, THE BOOK IS NOT NECESSARY!!

I absolutely LOVED this class!!! Dr. D is an AMAZING teacher! She is passionate about the topics that she teaches and she is driven to make sure that the students in her class are learning what they need to learn to be successful. She has two exams in which are very easy, however some may say that she is a hard grader, it is because she believes that her tests are very easy. However, you just need to make sure that you are giving COMPLETE answers and you can't really guess or BS your way through. Just make sure you take your time and write out complete thoughts. There is also an extra credit opportunity in case you fail the first exam and can actually raise your grade significantly. There is a group project. Personally, I hate group projects, but this one is very rewarding. You get to go out into the community and teach a nutrition topic to regular people in the SLO area. It is a learning experience, Dr. D doesn't care if it is a fail because the whole point is to learn how to improve your own or group's performance on approaching the project. She is very understanding and sympathetic to her students, so if there is any clarification or ANYTHING needed she is always willing to help out in any way she can. Dr. D is an amazing professor and I hope I can take another class with her!!!

I don't have much to say besides Dr. D is one of the best professors at Cal Poly. Definitely one of my top 5 favorite professors here. She's very passionate, funny, and fair with her grading.

Dr. Derelian is, by far, the most qualified professor I have had at Cal Poly. With an extensive background in education and one of the most entertaining personalities, it's hard NOT to pay attention to her! I had Dr. D for 250 and 415, and will be delighted to have her for senior project. Dr. D is dedicated, reasonable, and knows exactly how to lead students to success (after all, she teaches a whole course on how to do so). She is lovely!
