I took this class spring quarter 2013 at the end of my 2nd year. For her to be teaching here so long, I'm surprised she didn't have a polyratings profile. She is not an amazing professor, nor is she a bad one- I don't want to sound too biased just because of my performance. Music theory just wasn't my cup of tea. Most people coming into this class have musical background to some degree. You will be at a disadvantage if you have no musical background. I'd recommend taking ART instead. Yet, I do have one question to ask: how was taking this class supposed to make me a better engineer? It won't. In fact, most (if not all) GE's won't. I will never need to know how to compose random music and recite the notes in base and treble clefs in my professional career. GE's are nothing more than ways to unnecessarily provide professors with jobs and generate money for the state. In reality, GE's don't solve anything and our education system continues to suffer because of them.

I really enjoyed this class with Prof D'Avignon. I had some musical background, but even those who didn't seemed to enjoy and do well in this class also. There was homework a few times a week, and you had to go to three concerts throughout the quarter and write a report on each of them but I thought the workload was reasonable for a GE. The quizzes and midterms were fairly easy and didn't require much studying as long as you paid attention in class and took notes. Overall, I enjoyed it for a GE and thought it was an easy enough class to manage on top of the rest of my workload.

I really enjoyed this class as well as Professor D'Vignon. She was a great teacher. She was nice but really pushed you to become better at music theory. The class is fairly easy if you have any musical background or know any theory at all. The homework is almost a joke and takes less than an hour to complete. You have to go to three concerts and write a concert review but if you pay any attention at all during the concert then you'll be fine. The midterms and final are exactly what you learn in class and she will tell you what you need to fix before turning it in. Definitely take this class if you can.

If you do not have any prior music experience, this class will require some extra effort on your part. Professor D'Avignon will do her best to help answer questions, but even some with music experience may need to do a little bit of extra drilling in order to keep up with her teaching pace. This class had a workbook that we used (and you will not be able to sell it back because she wants the original copies of your workbook pages). Another course requirement is that you attend concerts and write concert reports. You will also write original compositions (within certain parameters). All that being said, I loved this class and I highly recommend taking it.

Horrible professor who is mean to certain students. She has her favorites who get graded easy. If she doesn't like you because you are a boy you will get bad grades on tests.

Missed the first day, went to the second day. Went to the midterm. Went to the Final. Three days of class total. I got a B, easy. This kind of shit gives our school a bad name.
