GW for president!!!! Terribly boring lecturer but a beautiful man. He possesses a certain charisma that cant be described. Like a tsunami that doesn't move and is out of shape. He's got killer hair that remains stagnant and unwavering like his spirit, perfectly molded and ready to launch shaun white into orbit.

G.W. is a legend. Besides rocking the best gel haired SuperCuts hair style, he loves putting to sleep all his students during lecture. But don't worry, he has more swag than P-Diddy at a music award show. I do not know what I even learned in that class other than how shitty life at the poultry unit is. Great family man, but even more so a fantastic story teller and amateur comedian that isn't afraid to test some material on us. Oh and did I mention he is an up and coming photographer?? He takes attendance checks to a whole new level. SDIF

Dr. Bates is a great professor. He makes the class challenging but is great when it comes time to offering help. He expects you to struggle a little and wants you to learn the material. I would highly recommend him. He's got some solid jokes.....kinda.

Good old Master Bates. This guy should actually be a hypnotist because he can put anybody to sleep at any moment. His favorite thing to do is make you feel dumb by attempting to explain something really confusing and then saying he is favorite phrase, "not too tough right?" His exercise for the day consists of the mile that he walks in class going from the center of the room to the slideshow screen to point out certain words. Do NOT miss a lab cause even if you do all the calculations he still won't give you credit for it. If you are the type to get an A through banging him, just talk about datums or some shit. That'll get him going.

Why Hello GW. Nice to see you this morning. Your hair didn't seem to go to bed last night either. What kinda super glue do you use for that quarter pipe up top? Anyway, thanks for reminding me that I need to inverse. I'm actually still inversing at this very moment. Let me know if you ever need an inhaler. I just wanted to say, you're growing on me, just like your little jimmy is growing whenever you touch that beautiful Leica TCR 307. Oh, and don't worry, I grabbed the serial number. Wish you the best.

I went in to the class expecting great hair after reading polyratings. Sadly, his hair is sub-par, if that. His teaching style is only slightly better than his hair. He's a great guy though and very accommodating. It's easy to get at least a B+ or A-. Super chill, easy labs, you'll get out of class early.

Labs are fairly easy as long as you work with your group, it's good because these are a large percentage of your grade. However, when it comes to homework and quizzes it really sucks. The homework he gives us is very unorganized and he does not go over any of it once you turn it in and it's graded. Quizzes are a hit or miss, he does not tell you what to even prepare for so it makes them pretty difficult. His lectures are horrible, it's just him walking in front of the class reading from the powerpoint and pointing at it with a laser. His voice is so monotone and he does not seem motivated about BRAE whatsoever. He moves on too fast not realizing that everyone is not super knowledgable like him and that we all come from different learning backgrounds. On the positive side, I went to his office hours a couple times and he is pretty helpful one on one. Other than that, I had to try really hard to understand what was going on in class a majority of the time. Steer clear of Master Bates if possible at all.

Bates is super swag. He may be monotone and an extremely active lecturer (he paces the entire time) but he's a cool dude. His lectures are kind of pointless in relation to the labs but are definitely on the midterms/final. Labs are super easy just follow every direction very carefully and you'll do fine. Be very detailed and neat in lab books. Not a hard class at all.

Bates is great. Super helpful and funny. Midterm and final are decently hard but half of the questions are straight off the quizzes so if you put decent effort into actually understanding what's going on you will be fine. Labs are long but fun.

Dr. Master Bates. Mr. T-Rex. He stands at about 6'3" with a wingspan of 4'. Try and count how many dramatic pauses this guy takes during a single lecture, you'll probably lose count. His monotone voice and amateur comedic jokes may put you to sleep in an early class but he's a good teacher and is always willing to help. When i say help, i mean he pretty much expects you to learn it on your own. You will definitely learn a lot in his classes if you actually try. His tests are straight forward just like his super sick gelled hair style which he brings to class everyday. He's a super down to earth guy who works really hard. Bates for President!!!

The reviews above me about Bates hypnotizing students to sleep is 100000% true. I spent all my mental strength trying to stay awake during his lectures which made my brain exhausted during the labs. This ultimately turned me into a lazy sack of shit as I scumbagged my way out of the labs by doing all the easy stuff or not participating in some cases. Therefore, I had no idea wtf was going on with the labs for the entire quarter. I took fucking turkey wishbone shaped Ls on all the fucking quizzes and the midterm. (https://imgur.com/a/YWIg0) For the final, I got annihilated on that shit. I'm praying to lord Jesus I pulled a 54% on that final so I can scrape a B- in the class. tl'dr Fall asleep in class so your brain is more functional during the labs.

Dr. Bates was the best teacher I had this quarter. Yes, BRAE 239 might be a four hour class and it's either freezing cold/wet or grueling hot, but this teacher is the best. He had clear powerpoints for lectures which he sent out ahead of class. There were weekly quizzes, but almost always there was a freebee question like "What is the purpose of a fence" - "to keep cows in." The quizes were not designed to be easy, but they were based upon the materials discussed in class. You cannot forgo studying because these are what bring down grades. There are maybe 5 total homework assignments, but the biweekly labs can take a lot (a lot!) of time. Take advantage of office hours to just ask him to look over your lab book so you don't lose easy points, I wish I had done that from the beginning. Bates really knows his stuff, and I gotta say, he puts a lot of time into being out standing in this field!

Bates is a pretty good professor. He really knows his stuff about surveying. His lectures are kinda boring so it's super easy to zone out. And if you zone out, you will find yourself lost in labs. The lab manual does a pretty good job guiding you through though. His homeworks are easy and light, quizzes are kinda hard, just make sure you study the slides for conceptual questions. Tests are too bad if you know what's going on in labs. PS it helps a lot if you are good at geometry.

G.W. is the MAN!!!! The dude effing loves water and dirt.Vertical turbine pumps and Parshall flumes gets this guy's dick hard. My favorite part of the lab was when he closed the valve on the pump that was running lol. Then water preceded to splurge on some chick haha. He rocks an overly gelled ski jump looking hair do and always seems to be short of breath. Highly recommend taking this beast of a professor if your down for a chill ass lab!

Fine teacher, but a little dry in the presentation. I wouldnt suggest having her at 8:00 in the morning, might be difficult staying awake.
