Garrett is the best math teacher I've ever had. His lessons are easy to follow, His tests are fair, he makes himself available, and best of all he understands where we are coming from as students because he is still a third year and isn't out to get you like some professors are. I highly recommend this class, you will not be disappointed

The fact that Garrett is teaching this course as a 3rd year is impressive. It also worked to the class' advantage in the way that he knew how to relate to the students in the class. I would definitely call him a nice guy. This was great, but, I found that I was routinely going to Garrett's office hours to get him to explain things better- he's great at explaining the lessons one on one, but it's pretty easy to get lost when he's lecturing to an entire class. Also, there is a downside to Garrett's friendly, carefree attitude: he doesn't seem to have the right approach with students who are really struggling in his course. There are a lot of "Oh, it'll all be okay, you'll do fine!"'s, and not a lot of "You need to focus extra hard on this course, and possibly get additional help". Overall, I liked Garrett as a person, and I think he will grow to become a great math instructor.

Garrett is a really great guy, and he wants his students to do good. He is a grad student, so he is not much older than most of the students. I never went to office hours because i didnt need to because he taught the material well, but i know from others that he was always helpful at office hours. He assigns daily homework, but it is optional. He grades partial credit, and it is not hard to do good in his class.

At the risk of being deleted, censored, whatever, I have to say that Garrett is fucking GREAT. I am a terrible math student, and dreaded taking it as a support course. I crashed his class by chance, he let me in, and knew my name (and everyone else's) within a week. He's a student as well, so he's extremely approachable and understanding of his students. His homework is optional, and his tests are very fair. He will even be democratic about some of the tests to see what he thinks is fair to put on them. He is extremely helpful at office hours, and sometimes will stay later to help you out. This guy just loves math, and knows how to explain it to people who are awful at it. I HIGHLY recommend him - take his class while he's still teaching.

I thought Garrett was a great teacher. He is a 4th year so he is young and really relatable. He is a pretty chill guy and is always willing to help you out. His homework is optional and tests are fair and he does a lot to help out your grade. The only problem I had with him is that he doesn't explain things very well for someone who has never taken calculus. There were people in my class who had taken calc before and it was easy for them because it was just review. For me, I had not taken calc or trig and I struggled to follow him. I always had to go to office hours or get help from other people. However, he is very helpful and he explains things better one on one in his office hour. It just takes a lot more effort to do well. P.S. SO ADORABLE.

Garrett is a really good teacher and really helpful in office hours. He is kind of awkward when he teaches but it's cute. His quizzes and midterms were fair especially since he graded on a curve. The only bad thing is that he doesn't collect homework so you have to do very well on the quizzes and midterms if you want to do well in the class.

Bates is a saint. If math isn't your thing, do everything in your power to take his class.

Bates is awesome. Clearly presents all the material on the quizzes an midterms. He pretty much spells out exactly what you need to know to get an A in this course. He does help you learn the material and knows what he is talking about. If you can, take this class, it is definitely worth it.
