Professor Anariba is an incompetent teacher. He reads directly off of his slides and if students have questions, he only utters back exactly what you can read directly off of his slides. He will tell you one thing, and then change his mind. Although he may be a bright man, he doesn't know the basics of chemistry. This class requires a lot of work. He gives you 3 quizzes, 3 midterms, and 2 papers. The papers were a waste of time and did not pertain to any of the material he was teaching. They were busy work. I did well in this class because of the time I put into studying and because of my high school chemistry background. His grading was fair and questions he put on tests were fair. But sitting through his class was like getting teeth pulled. I would not suggest Professor Anariba to anyone.

Anariba was new to Cal Poly when I took him a couple quarters ago. We found out really quickly that he knew a lot about Chemistry, but he couldn't present it in a clear way which completely screwed a lot of us over, since this was a General Chem class and a lot of us hadn't taken chem since high school. He contradicted himself a lot and sometimes seemed to get confused on what he was trying to tell us. I never was able to go to his office hours, but a friend told me that he kind of beat around her questions and gave her indirect and not completely relevant answers. Overall, he was a really nice guy and extremely passionate about Chemistry, but not the best teacher.

Dr. Anariba is right now leading my list as the worst teacher I have had at Cal Poly. He gives three tests a few quizzes and two papers to be done as a group. The papers were a complete waste of time and on the first one he wrote on our paper that it was poorly written then proceeded to give us full points for it. He also is the only teacher I have ever had who seemed as if he didn't know the material he was teacher. On one occasion we spent ten minutes trying to point out a mistake he made during a calculations and when we finally got him to see it be brushed it off like the assumption he made we should take for granted even though it was wrong! He was also surprised by something he saw on the periodic table and he said "In my 3o years of chemistry I have never seen that before" but we had all known about that particular quirk on the table since high school chem! Moral of the story if you want a teacher who breathes incompetence take Anariba other wise you are better off waiting a quarter or finding a different section.

Anariba is an OK professor, but there was nothing really that special about his class. He lectured directly off of slides. Also he did provide a fair amount of test prep material to the class via blackboad, but people would continuously find errors in his solutions and questions throughout the quarter. Consequently, there were several emails throughout the 10 weeks of him apologizing and correcting himself. Though he's a smart guy, I honestly put more trust in his TAs if I wanted a question answered. Those things aside, there is 1 big thing that bugged me the most about his class. On several occasions Anariba would delay quizzes - during one instance 10 minutes before we were supposed to take it. He forgot to print them. These delays added up and we ended up taking our last (3rd) midterm on the final day of lectures. This eliminated all chances for us to have a review day. I additionally, he certainly wasn't someone who people could look up to as an expert. During one of our last weeks, while going over the basics of organic chemistry, he professed to almost failing o-chem himself. What if you were flying in a plane and heard the captain say over the PA that he didn't do too well in flight school. Gee thanks...
