The class I took him for was required by all MATE freshman. I had no choice but to take him. The course he taught is definitely not his strong suit. He's confusing in his lectures and completely ambiguous in his comments. I'm not sure how he is in his other classes but I certainly did not have a positive experience with him. Do not take him.

Rob Carter is great. He clearly elucidates material while eliminating all the bullshit that comes along with school. His quizzes are clear and straightforward, and he prepares you for them incredibly well. Take him if you can!

I'm only posting this so he is no longer a 4.0 on this. He's a good guy and I'm sure he knows what he's doing in his other classes but he had a really tough time explaining anything in IME 140 unless you had already taken Mechanical Drafting and/or CAD before. I don't know how to explain it but he basically it was like having an extremely confusing textbook read aloud to you followed by a lab. He just didn't explain it well but he doesn't normally teach IME 140.

Carter is a MATE teacher so i give him a lot of slack. he doesn't seem to know what he is doing, but he is very nice and understands that drafting isn't the easiest thing to do for people who are completely new to it. he is always willing to help, whether he really knows the material or not. but i would take him if i could. i heard he is actually really easy for MATE also.

From what I've read, he is actually a MATE teacher teaching basic drafting. I've done drafting before and I often feel I know more than he does. Class drag on because he didnt really seem prepared. Powerpoint was most of the lecture and it's pretty dull. I didn't learn anything new in the class. On the positive, he's an easy grader and tells you what's on the final. Homework is basically study guides for the midterm/final, but isn't collected. If you know drafting, the class is an easy A. Solidworks can confuse people, but if you understand the tutorials or have a friend teach you the basics, it's not to bad.

Rob is an extremely nice guy who wants all of his students to succeed. I had him for both the lecture and lab components of this course. At times, the way he explained things did not make much sense, but he was a very fair grader to compensate. The biggest piece of advice that I have to anyone in his class is to go to his office hours. Not only does he try his best to explain the material to you there, but he also keeps track of who shows up to his office hours and gives you the benefit of the doubt for making the extra effort.

Rob is the definition of a homie. He is good at teaching, super approachable at office hours, and plays music when he's done lecturing. I mean the guys a DJ on the side, how cool is that! Would recommend him for anything, you'll have a good time.

Rob's a cool teacher but when it comes to IME 140 he struggled a lot with the information. A lot of weeks he had to ask the other teacher to help him with the lesson. He is however a ridiculously easy grader when it comes to the weekly homework. I got a 100% on all of them when i know they were not perfect. And most of us left class at least an hour early every week. If you want a easy A take him. If you want to learn take Georgeou

Fun fact, Rob is a DJ. I think Rob only teaches this class once a year, so a lot of it is him trying to remember how to do certain things in Solidworks. I can't really complain though since he grades super easily and is super chill about when we show up and leave, etc.

Professor Carter is really cool. This class is super easy and you're basically guaranteed an A. And you get to make some interesting (but mostly useless) castings. The homework consists of one worksheet per week. You'll almost always get out of class early. Basically, don't worry about this class.

To start off, I took him for IME 144,140,141,156, basically all the courses he teaches except MATE 210/215. His lectures are very good, informative, and thorough. The slight downside is he can be a little bland sometimes, go to slow for some, and go off-topic occasionally, particularly if you ask him a non-100% related question. His testing on material is very straightforward. If you pay some attention, don't miss class, you will do fine (A). His personality is super chill, and because of his personality, it will make the people who don't care about the class, care, and the people who care about the class, enjoy it. He is the professor worth waking 7am for, or taking the 6/7pm class.

Rob gives precise in depth notes and examples for IME 141. The labs are a lot of fun, and he's there to help walk students thru the material. The labs notes are checked for completion, and students keep the lab results. The week before the final we go over the exam, take notes on it, and can use it on the open-note exam. He's there for you if you need any help, teaches us the course precisely and straightforward, and Rob is just overall an AWESOME TEACHER!!!!!

Professor Carter is an amazing guy overall, an easy grader and very knowledgeable. I had him for the LAB of IME-156 while still having Perks for the LEC. The course is basically a bunch of quizzes and a major project, the power supply, that you work on all quarter. Carter was known to be a much easier grader on the power supply than Perks from what I heard. I would say I was average at the quality of my soldering and assembly and he still gave me an A on the power supply. However, small things would be docked off and he was would always explain why in great detail and in a very easy-to-understand way so you were never mad for the grade you got. The quizzes are based on weekly homework readings and are given to you in advance so you can answer and study them. The final, however, was very silly. Questions would show up twice and it was based on a program you used in class for about a day called DipTrace while he said it would be based on the assembly of the power supply. All in all, an easy class; stay ahead when assembling your power supply and always test things as you go. Try to choose the time of the LAB on a day that isn't missed due to holidays because you really need all the time you can get. If you have trouble with your power supply, also try visiting Perks during his office hours, I heard he was a beast when it came to this stuff.

This guy is the guy to take for lab! He knows what he's talking about and he curves it at the end, which is good because the 2 midterms you take in lecture could be pretty difficult. I was a little nervous taking this class because I knew that we had to build a power supply (and I'm not a very technical person), but I learned it's pretty easy, especially if you work with other people. Overall, definitely the professor to take!

Super chill guy, lab is pretty straight forward. The lab quizzes are really easy if you just go over the sample question he gives you. I had him both lecture and lab, and in the lecture he literally gave us 40 out of the 50 questions for each midterm, so it was kind of a joke. Overall an interesting class with an awesome professor.

Awesome guy, always wants to help out students, wants to get to know them and wants you to get to know him. Teaches the material pretty well. The lecture you should go to because he gives out midterm questions at the end of each one. The class is not too hard because of that and if you go to his office hours he will make things much more clear and also give points back on the midterm so go to his office hours! Super chill guy and definitely makes going into college an easier transition.

Lab he's great and having a good TA is always nice. Do the reading if you want to get done ahead of time and make sure you get the kids who know what they're doing and the TA to help. Quizzes are easy and the lecture is boring and easily skippable. Rob is a fantastic DJ with dope beats and a great person to just talk to about random stuff (especially music). Great class would recommend.

I had Rob for both the lab and lecture portion of IME 156. He was a good professor and taught a very general overview of PCB fab. I was in a class of the experimental kit with the arduinos, and so we were given very little guidance in the actual assembly portion. But, I feel like we learned more this way, and the kinks will be ironed out eventually.

Rob's great and I have no reservations recommending him as a teacher other than the fact he lags on grading and you don't know for sure where you stand. The entire time during the class I believed I was getting a high C when I was totally on track for an A. There are a few really good quizlets for the lecture and lab final that really helped, the lecture midterm was very out of nowhere but most people ended up getting Bs on it. Overall he cares about your box and your grade and is very chill in lab while trying to make lecture interesting (he plays really dumb videos that you'll grow to love). 5/7. Perfect teacher.

Professor Carter is a really cool guy. He's chill and knowledgeable at the same time. His lectures are easy to follow and he does a good job explaining the material while keeping it interesting. Rob is easy to talk to if you ever need help, and makes himself available if you ever need him. Definitely no complaints. The course is built around making an LED project that responds to sound. This is what you work in during lab, while the lecture explains the basic ideas of electronics which I thought was super interesting. The project is definitely manageable if you focus during the 3 hour labs. I had an issue with my board, and Professor Carter helped me diagnose it and get it running. The final product is really cool, as you essentially have a light show in a box.

Carter is such an amazing professor and a great guy. Every time I feel unsure about my major (EE) he makes me feel better about it. He's super helpful in office hours and in lecture and lab. It's a chill class but you still learn a lot. I enjoy currently being a TA for him and will hopefully do it again. He's one of the only professors who is understanding of the fact that life is messy and stuff happens.

It's a lab where you construct the LED light kit on your own pace. I would recommend working on as fast as possible so you don't have to go to lab for the rest of the quarter if you finish it early. He was mostly in the computer lab while everyone was working in the lab section. I relied heavily on the ta's since I didn't have any experience with electronics or circuit boards so I had to constantly ask the ta's for help but they didn't seem to mind and were extremely helpful and kind. I don't understand why Carter has good reviews when he doesn't even teach or help during lab. BUT it is still possible to get an A or a good grade because you just need to finish your project and make it work successful without Carter himself. You need this class for certain majors and you'll be fine regardless who your teacher is because you don't really need them.

Carter is this weird stoner wedding dj dude who's pretty chill and knows his shit. His exams are weird as fuck because every question has multiple answers and its multiple choice. But, let me say: IF YOU HAVE THE ROBOT LAB SECTION - DROP. NOW. Do NOTNOTNOT take that lab section. You have to build a line following, ball catching, ball shooting autonomous robot from SCRATCH and you have to buy an ass fuckingly expensive kit for this lab that meets fuckin like 9 times. each lab is 3 hours. you have 27 hours to build this shit. and it's one unit for the lab. biggest load of horse shit ever. I'm not degrading carter's rating here because he didn't teach this lab section (at least yet) but god damn please switch into the normal lab section at ALL COSTS.

So I had Carter for both lab and lecture. The lab part of this class is so easy, no matter who your instructor is because you're building your light kit which is so much fun and so freaking cool. You learn how to solder, crimp, work with metal, continuity testing, and how to design a circuit board. It's a really cool, fun, and informative lab and the three quizzes given are really really easy if you've done the reading and answered the accompanying questions (or just looked up a quizlet online). Carter grades super generously on the final project. During the lab, he doesn't really do anything except for the Diptrace part and it's the TAs who end up helping you, but in my class at least, they were all super nice and helpful so it didn't really make a difference. The lecture part of this class is hard because the information is super boring and dull and his midterms are hard so definitely study for them because they will end up affecting your final grade so do put in effort studying for them. Make sure you take notes during class and look up quizlets and find a good group to work with. But Carter himself is very very nice and is really smart so he will help you and he is a really good person.

Rob's a great guy and will do anything he can to help you succeed. The midterm and final in lecture all were group exams, so it was a lot lower stress than most classes. The lab was really fun as well. You could tell he was passionate about what he was teaching, even if he is a little awkward and hard to talk to. He's really sweet. If you take twenty minutes to cram before the lab quizzes you'll get an A in the class, easy as that. Just enjoy this class because it's such a light workload and an easy A, and it's still fun.

I had Carter for both the lab and lecture, it's a 100 level class so it's not designed to be stressful. The lecture has quizzes every week that are password locked so you need to be present to attempt it. The lecture has 2 midterms which you take with up to 2 partners, they were not too difficult as long as you look over his lecture slides before. If you go to his office hours and ask to look over the exam and talk with him about a couple of problems he'll add 3 or 4 points to your score. The lab section is really fun. The instructions are a solid guide. I finished the project on week 7 or 8 and as a result I didn't have to show up until the lab final on week 10. The lab has 3 quizzes that are based off of assigned readings, these are not hard. The lab final is based off of the project and the lab quizzes, also not hard. Overall a super fun class and Carter is helpful in lab and is worth taking.

Rob is a pretty chill teacher, and I think does a good job in boiling down complex topics into something that inexperienced people can easily understand. This was a once a week lecture, with a lot of students, so there wasn't a whole lot of stuff going on with this class. There are two midterms, one being the "final", and both of them were group exams and I left there 30 mins early. Overall, I'd recommend him

This guy is a great professor, you will do fine if you GO TO CLASS EVERY TIME and go to his office hours if you ever need help. I did horribly in this class but it was purely because of how often I missed the 8am lecture and how little I cared about the course material. Even with how horribly I did I still managed to get a B because of the grading curves and that our midterms are in groups. You will easily get an A if you just put in the effort to go to class, learn from me and don't miss class!!

Rob was an awesome lab instructor. The lab itself felt a bit pointless and repetitive at some points, but Rob did his best to get us interested in the topic. Grading was very informal and easy, as well as the workload. Rob focused on the things that are important in the real world and threw out some of the bullshit that is only present in academia. Take him!

If you have to take MATE 215, Carter is the professor you want. The entire lab write up is in class so there's no work outside of class at all. For the labs just write down the data and answer the questions. He doesn't care if you got the wrong answers as long as your answer makes sense. He really doesn't care about the structure of the writeup. Overall its pretty easy to get an A on every one. Also, every week you rotate around the room doing different materials experiments. Every week there is also a mini lab quiz based upon the prelab. Pretty easy to do well on if you spend a half hour or so every week reading it. If you don't bother to read them don't worry, because the quizzes make up a very small majority of the grade. So overall, a very chill class and pretty easy to get an A

Professor Carter is not as involved in this lab as any other lab I have ever taken. But that's the way MATE 215 is structured. You show up, take a quiz on a reading you had to do before the lab, and then you begin. There is no lecture of any sorts. Carter walks around to each group and explains the theme and concept of the lab, which can either be really informative and fascinating, or super boring and played out. Depends on your mood for that day. The quizzes are tough and will probably kick your ass, but as long as you follow the directions in the lab you will get a good grade. This class requires very minimal time outside of lab, and Carter is a good professor to take it with. I definitely recommend him.
