Bonini, Vincent  

I took him 2 years ago during my first quarter here in Cal Poly and I couldn't have asked for a better calc 1 professor. I believe I was part of his first Cal Poly lecture if I can remember correctly. Going to lecture is super helpful, and the entire time you are writing. He usually going a couple min over, but the guy is super chill that the kids never disrespected him by getting up and leaving. He runs through super fast and gets mad when any kid not part of his lecture comes in interrupting him. The scene is funny every time. The exams and quizzes aren't too difficult and the assigned problems are perfect for studying. Occasionally he allos for group quizzes which is always nice. One of my fav textbooks in college has been the calc textbook. You just can't go wrong with it. Outside of class Bonini is great to talk to. I still see him at bus stops and we sit back and talk with each other. Take him and you won't regret the decision.

Calc 3 is the hardest calc class and bonini knows that. He gives a ton of annoying online HW which sucks but he has weekly take home quizzes which are really good for knowing whats gonna be on the midterms. He grades hard, but he didnt even put taylor series on our midterms and hes super nice like that. Awesome in lecture and a really nice guy, I'm taking him again for calc 4 next quarter

I came into Cal Poly with some calculus credit so i started off in 142. After a year of no calc I was pretty rusty and had a hard time with that class. To date the hardest math class I've had has been calc 3 with bonini. If you like proofs he's a great professor but I don't learn from them and he was a bad teacher for me. Also be sure you have 2 notebooks because if you write down everything like I do you'll be going through at least one.

Without a doubt one of the BEST professors I have ever had. Gives weekly take home quizzes that are difficult but can be done with the help of friends and workshop. They are also helpful in studying for the exams. A pretty large amount of homework but it's not too bad. He will replace one of your midterms with your final grade if it's better. A lot of people did poorly on the midterms as the averages were both in the C range but I did fine just by studying. Listen to what he says in class because he will drop hints about certain problems that will be on the midterms. He explains the material extremely well and is exceptionally clear during class. If you just put in the effort and work hard it's pretty easy to get an A. The midterms are very time sensitive but try to look back and correct any obvious mistakes. Overall I loved him. Highly recommended

Best math teacher I have ever had.

This class was one of the most difficult classes I have taken at Cal Poly, but Professor Bonini provides all the resources you need to succeed. His lectures are engaging and effective. Quizs and Exams take problems straight from homework so if you complete the homework sets you have a very good chance at doing well. In his office hours he is very helpful and will genuinely work hard with you to make sure you get help if you are struggling. Overall he is a very fair professor and I would highly recommend him.

Bonini Is the best. Lot of homework. But it was fine. You really understood the material because of it. Super good lecturer :)

Wow. This guy rocks! One of the best teachers on this campus in any subject. Presents the material excellently and with utmost clarity. Midterms (2) and final focus on concepts. Take home, SUPER helpful quizzes frequently. Study these for the midterms and final. Grades fairly. Homework is online and can be lengthy, but is helpful. The best part about this guy is how helpful he is in office hours. If you thought he taught well in class, go to office hours to be even more surprised. He goes into much detail but keeps the main ideas in play. One of the best professors at Cal Poly, no doubt. Highly recommended.

Bonini is the man when it comes to math 241. He really gets into his lectures and will break a lot of chalk. He makes the material seem interesting and really knows how to explain things. His midterms are fair and his final is challenging. If you get the stuff the final however is very doable. He is also very helpful during office hours. The one thing he hates is people asking if something is going to be in the midterm. Overall Bonini is a great professor.

An excellent teacher. Probably the best teacher I've had at poly. He knows his shit, and portrays it very well. While you may be scrawling down notes the whole hour, he puts it up in a very organized, easy to read manner. I studied the notes from lecture, did the homework, and got an A. Also he seems to get worked up/ get pissed sometimes, its pretty funny!

This professor does seem to do a pretty good job of teaching and relating the material to the students. The only problem, and this is a big one, is that he goes over the time limit. If you have a class across campus that you really have to get to on time, do not take this professor. I told him I had to leave on time because of a class, and he got really mad. He'd yell at me and harass me in front of class for leaving when I had to, even when I explained my situation to him. Basically... he's a good professor if you're willing to stay 2-4 minutes after the bell every class. If not, don't take the class or you'll end up having to drop.

Bonini is excellent. He is easily one of the best teachers I've had. He knows his stuff, is a reasonable grader, and is extremely helpful in office hours. His notes are clear and organized and will guide you through the class very well. He also somehow writes most of it from memory which blows my mind. Take this guy, you're not going to find a better prof!

Professor Bonini was easily one of the best professors I've had at Cal Poly. He is pretty fast paced, he covers a lot but is very good at explaining things. He has homework assignments and take-home weekly quizzes (for these he usually gives out some free 100's) which are supposed to be a bit too hard and he will give you good credit for attempting it anyways (not for correctness). His midterms and final are all pretty tough because they make sure you know your stuff, but they are fair in that he definitely prepares you well to take them. I hated Calc 1-3, and Calc 4 with Bonini was one of my favorite classes. Unlike a lot of professors, he believes that unless you're math majors you don't really need to know the theory or proofs behind things so much, so he says he won't waste your time and instead just jumps into examples on how to do things which is the best way to teach in my opinion. He also thinks that his lecture is where you should get your information and that the book should supplement that, not the other way around like most professors seem to think (which I really like how Bonini does it so much better). He gives great partial credit, cares more about the right method and understanding than the right number, and it's tough material but he teaches it so well that it becomes easy. Take Bonini, he's the best!

Bonini was a really cool dude. I enjoyed going to his class but it was his first time teaching 244 this quarter so it got a little rough when we got into vector spaces. Everything aside from that the class was straight forward and you can tell he really knew the material well. He was lenient when it came to homework and grading tests and overall did a good job considering it was his first quarter teaching a class that in my opinion is one of the more difficult early division math classes to teach.

I really enjoyed having him as a professor, he is rather theory heavy, but he will do plenty of examples in class to make sure that it's done. There is weekly homework due, but it's rather easy to complete, and weekly quizzes are just like the homework. The tests were often written to be way too long, so it wasn't that we didn't know the material, it was that there wasn't enough time, so you need to make sure that you can work fast. Do homework, be able to work quickly, and you'll learn a ton. Plus if you're over 21 you can see him at SLO Brew a lot

Bonini teaches the course pretty well. By nature of the amount of material the class is a little fast paced. Quizzes once a week similar to homework questions. Quizzes and homework are easy points. I felt is exams were difficult but he is a generous grader! He keeps the class interesting and tries to make it relatable

Very good professor. Sometimes he goes into a lot of theory, but then he goes into examples which is where I would actually learn most of it. Theory questions didn't really show up on quizzes or tests. Homework was due every Tuesday and we had quizzes every Friday. Quizzes were pretty straightforward if you had done the homework. I felt well prepared for both of the midterms and the final, but they were all pretty hard. Overall he's a great professor. His tests are hard but don't let that keep you from taking his class.

First of all, be prepared that linear analysis is harder than it sounds. I actually think it's more difficult than calculus. But a good professor helps a lot. Now, as Bonini would say: "So, What's the point here"... I loved this guy. He not only taught linear 1 in a clear and comprehensive manner, but he was super helpful at clarifying concepts and assisting us during office hours. Beyond that, he's a brilliant guy, and sometimes his little side comments will cause the whole class to erupt into laughter, giggles at the very least. I recommend sitting near the front, since he writes a lot, just be careful because that's the splash zone...just kidding, but he does get kinda sweaty. All in all, probably the best math experience I've had here at Poly. Cannot recommend this guy enough.

Great professor who really cares about each student and the material he teaches. From the first 20 minutes of the first day to the last day, he taught at full speed. Full speed means sweating, running across the chalkboard like he's on coke, and going through proofs and examples at light speed. That being said, if a question was asked, he would explain the answer so that everyone can understand. DO NOT CORRECT HIM UNLESS YOU KNOW YOU'RE RIGHT!! If you attempt to correct him and you're wrong, he'll shit on you. Really enjoyed his class because of this

would recommend bonini 10/10 you do take a lot of notes, but he conveys material in such a straightforward manner. his tests and midterms were super fair, and were super similar to the homework. if possible, go to the supplemental workshops before the midterms, because the practice midterms were basically the midterms that he gave.

Overall a good professor for Linear 1. He goes really fast, so there's no time to fall behind, but he's willing to help in office hours. He can be extremely condescending in class, but if you feel put off by that, go to office hours, he's a different person. The class is basically homework due every week, quiz every week (but half of them are take home quizzes that we never turn in), two exams, and a final. The final can replace one of your exams scores if you do better. The midterms are not easy, make sure to study. They're very long so you have to know what you're doing and can't stop to think even for a second. Take Bonini if you can, but be prepared to work your ass off. Highly recommend a workshop for this class.

Dr. Bonini is the legend! He is such a chill and nice dude! When it comes to teaching, he explains everything so clearly with plenty of examples. When you have questions, he is always helpful and patient. Hw is a little heavy, but good practice. Half of the quizzes are take home, tests are fair, he also curves. Cal Poly please give him a raise!

Great professor. He goes through lecture very quickly and covers a ton of material, but he always makes sure to pause and clarify concepts whenever there are questions. I thought Bonini's lectures were a very good mixture of theory and examples, as were his exams. He makes it very clear that it won't be an easy class, but he provides you with all the resources necessary to succeed. This class was 15% homework/quizzes (and all but one of the quizzes were take home), and the other 85% was exams. Exam questions were very similar to example problems covered in class and assigned homework problems. If you take Bonini for Linear he will make you work hard, but if you come to class, do the homework, and go to his office hours for any other help you need you will do well in the class.

Very clear, approachable, and helpful. I would definitely recommend his class.

Whatever the general consensus is on this guy, it’s an understatement of his effectiveness as a professor. Bonini is a fair—sometimes even generous—grader when it comes to partial credit on exams. Homework is due weekly and is often time-consuming, so put forth an effort to work on assignments the day they’re assigned. There are also weekly quizzes, though they typically end up being take-home. Bonini really knows his stuff and expects the respect and attention of his students (i.e., don’t use your phone or leave class unless you really have to). He’s a great professor and great guy. Definitely recommend.

If you can, take Bonini. His lecture is very fast paced and missing a day of class will put you behind, but he is very helpful in office hours and will do everything he can to get you back on track. He also gives take home quizzes frequently (5 out of 7 were take home quizzes) but these also help to prepare for the midterms/final. A very energetic and funny guy, yet if you are on your phone he will likely threaten to leave the class (he really likes the students to engage with him, and gets visibly irritated when no body volunteers an answer when he pauses for student input). Great guy overall and will help you succeed. His grading policy was A1 as well.

Bonini is the goat. Cal Poly has a rather impressive Math department when it comes to teachers, but Bonini tops them all in my opinion. However, he does teach VERY fast paced, so if you dont keep up with the homeworks you will fall behind and might not feel this way. That being said, Bonini is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what he teaches, not to mention he is really funny too. He wants the students to succeed. He gave take-home quizzes weekly (which I don't think were even graded TBH), but there is a decent amount of homework. Regardless, Bonini teaches the material very well and is helpful in office hours too. Take Bonini, you won't regret.

Bonini pile-drives way too much information in to every lecture. There are weekly homework and take home quizes. Most aren't too bad, but there is so many of them that you are spending 10-15 hours on this stuff. So if you are taking 12 units you should be fine, but if you are taking 16-22 units you won't do well in this class. But after reviewing other professors that teach this class, I think it is just a bear of a class and the professors/department need to go over how this class is taught in-terms of what material should be covered (the most important stuff is covered the last 2 weeks and is rushed).

If you're slow at taking tests, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He is very intelligent and does many nice examples, but he goes extremely fast. He puts way too many questions on his exams and expects you to finish it within 50 minutes. He seems to make things unnecessarily harder than other professors do. DO NOT TAKE!!!

Bonini is a good professor, really knows his stuff. He writes extremely fast on the board, but SUPER NEAT and draws perfect graphs, so be ready to sprint through lecture. He is very helpful in office hours. His tests were designed to see how fast you could do the problems, so they have a lot of questions and you have to be prepared. I'd take him again!

I came out of Dr. B's Vector Calc class with my voice an octave deeper and hair on my chest. If you want to separate the boys from the men, take him and be prepared to have information exquisitely swept into your head with more grace and speed than a Ferrari.

Bonini is a great professor, there's no doubt about that. He writes and draws graphs perfectly and does plenty of examples in class. However, he teaches really fast. Normally this isn't too much of an issue (I've had him for 206, 242, and now 304). I feel like there was so much material covered that it all sort of blended together. The course wasn't too strenuous, but this class specifically could have benefited from a slower pace. Overall I'd recommend Bonini, but maybe not if you're taking 304 and haven't had him as a professor before.

Bonini is very abrasive initially. He is not one to notice your mistakes or appear to care, however he does understand math is hard and makes his class passable. He does a very good job of preparing you for his (extremely difficult) exams and gives lots of extra credit. Passable? Yes A? Maybe

Fine teacher, but a little dry in the presentation. I wouldnt suggest having her at 8:00 in the morning, might be difficult staying awake.
