If you have never taken a spanish class before, then Spanish 101 takes a good amount of effort. Tanya Chroman is a great teacher to learn from. She lived in Mexico for 2 years and it shows! She speaks spanish fluidly and clear with an accent. She is very positive and makes the class interactive. You will definitely learn a lot from her class.

Professor Chroman is an excellent teacher. She tries to speak in spanish as much as possible to immerse you in the language. Every class she has you speak with other student which is good practice on actually speaking the language rather than just reading and listening. She is really nice and helpful when it comes to any questions. Definately recommend you take her, you will learn a lot.

I took 4 years of Spanish in high school and this class was incredibly easy... however if you're new to the language Professor Chroman is awesome!! The workload is incredibly easy and the tests are very straightforward from what you do in class. She's a very sweet lady and you can tell she loves teaching.

Professor Chroman is great! She's super sweet and cares about her students a lot. She does a great job answering questions in a helpful way and she genuinely wants her students to do well. Her class is not overly difficult and the most work you have to do for her class is just practice Spanish a bit outside of class to do well on her weekly quizzes or tests (my class had either a quiz or test every Thursday). Would absolutely recommend her!

Honestly one of the best professors I have ever taken at Cal Poly. She is so full of happiness and knows how to help you learn a new language in a stress free way. I would 100% take her as a professor again. Highly recommend Profesora Chroman. TAKE HER

It was almost impossible to focus in class because I found myself getting lost in the endless abyss of her eyes. Awesome teacher though.

Tanya is a really good professor, she knows how to present beginner level spanish well and clearly. All positives about her and her teaching. The class itself wasn't too difficult...we had weekly quizzes which are very easy, and then there were tests every two weeks which aren't hard at all either, very straightforward. She gives out a final project where you group up and take a video of you guys having a conversation about subject she gives you which is super easy. One recommendation though is attend class! She actually takes attendance and it doesn't matter how well you know the subjects, if you don't attend class, you get percentages deducted from your final grade which can take a huge toll.

Professor Chroman has been my best teacher so far! I have taken a lot of Spanish classes before so this class came fairly easy to me. She speaks in Spanish a lot of the time so that you're immersed in the language. She was always super friendly and very well versed in her subject. Most classes are going over new topics and workings with partners to communicate. She has weekly quizzes and around 5-6 tests. I really enjoyed the online homework because it showed you if you're answer was right or not without just letting you struggle. I highly suggest her as a professor!

Professor Chroman is awesome! This year I had her for SPAN 101, 102, and 103. For someone who didn't enjoy Spanish very much in high school, I have to say that her classes were very enjoyable and I got a lot from them. She presented the material clearly and her tests and quizzes always reflected what we'd gone over in class. If you have the chance to take Chroman at all, I would highly recommend doing so!

Professor Chroman is great! Spanish is really difficult for me, but Chroman always took the time to help students who were struggling. The homework was basic and the exams were hard, but manageable as long as you studied hard. There were never surprises, you always knew what was expected of you. There were a couple of take home writing assignments, but nothing too long or hard.

I had to take SPAN 103 as a required support course as a COMS major and I 10/10 recommend Chroman for 103 or any spanish class in general. I crashed her class on the first day of school and she was super nice about letting me join the class especially because the class was full. She always made it clear what was on the test, and we always had a review session for the first hour of class on test days which really helped. Not much homework or any outside work at all besides studying and one page writing assignments we got maybe once a month (you get full points if you do them, super easy). Only thing that bothered be about this class was class time was spent doing worksheet and activities so it sometimes can get boring. Overall, class was relatively easy with Chroman. We also got out at least 10 minutes early everyday and she gives a 10 break an hour into class. Take Chroman if you are looking for a relatively easy class with not a lot of work outside class.

Chroman was dope! She will clarify the point she is trying to make in English, but speaks predominantly in Spanish. Her worksheets force you to understand the material and she has weekly quizzes that are easy if you are paying attention. Overall easy class and I actually learned.

A short quiz every other week and a test the weeks we did not have a quiz. The tests are very predictable, if you have taken Spanish classes in high school this will be very easy for you. Attendance is graded (you can miss two days) which can sometimes get tedious because I found that I did not want to go somedays. The homework is online and you usually have two weeks to do it. It usually took me 2-3 hours to complete all of it. There are opportunities for extra credit. Overall, I highly recommend this class, it was not stress for me.

Profesora Chroman is very sweet and a good spanish professor. She is a bit timid, but makes up for it with her enthusiasm. She has studied in Mexico so she has some good stories, and is really adamant teaching about different Spanish cultures. I thought the tests were easy if you just went to class everyday and didn't study. The essays are a bit harder. She is not an easy grader with those, but if she sees you put time and effort into them than you should get decent grades. If not, go to her office hours because she is really willing to help. Buy the book NEW, not used. I made that mistake and had to pay $92 for the online SpanishLabs program which was much more expensive than the book would've been with the free code for the program. And those online assignments are part of the grade so you can't really avoid that one. Take Prof. Chroman if you get the chance, she's great!

Profesora Chroman is really sweet. She doesn't grade very harshly on composiciones (essays), but she rushes a lot of in-class assignments. What I really don't like about her teaching style is that she allows students to speak in English in class and she frequently speaks in English to us. She's nice, but she's not helping me to improve my Spanish at all. You will have one 5 minute presentation in the class on a famous Spanish speaker, plus tests every other week and in-class essays on the weeks off of tests. There will also be a number of essays to do at home, but they're all only 250 words.

I got a good grade without putting in a ton of effort. If that's what you want then take Chroman. However, I'm hardly any better at Spanish. Most of the class is in English/

Chroman is awesome! Loved her class, this was honestly my favorite class the entire quarter. Workload is not too hard and she grades papers (composiciones, they are not very long or hard to do) fairly. Class is fun and interesting, always passes by really quickly. We learn about interesting things (holidays in spanish-speaking countries) and often spend class time speaking to other students in Spanish about interesting topics, so its pretty much like an hour of chatting with friends about movies and music in Spanish. Chroman herself is very kind and is overall a great teacher. WISH I COULD TAKE THIS CLASS AGAIN!

Such a nice person but she's such a pushover that it's hard to take the class seriously. If you want to learn spanish don't take this class. I took this the quarter after I studied in Spain, where I learned a ton of spanish almost to the point of fluency, and I lost it all. She means well but is not a challenge whatsoever. It's all based on pointless vocab and papers that everyone translates through google.

What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.
