I had a good math base in high school and felt the class was just a repeat from i learned. I spent time in class working on the homework and finished it so that I didn't have to do anything outside of class. The homework is assigned on Friday (placed on Blackboard) and it is due by the following Thursday. He will go over any problems with the homework that you have at the beginning of class if you bring questions. He is really young and loved talking to us about his band! He's not the best math teacher in the world but I knew the material and didn't need much instruction. If you understand what he is teaching you the tests are easy. There are no quizzes which are really nice! :) Just midterm and final. I got an A on the final and felt it wasn't extremely long. I finished in an hour! So if you have a good pre-calculus base, take him its an easy class. If you need more instruction, you may want to take a different teacher.

I was told by my friends to take Mr. Estes and I am glad I did. I have never felt so confident and comfortable taking a math course as I did taking his class. He is very good at explaining things in complete detail, even to someone who sucks at math like me. He is genuinely a great guy as well. He takes care of his students and does everything in his power to make sure his students succeed.

TAKE ESTES. I hate math and I got an A in this class. The homework wasn't too bad, the midterms were normal, and the final was easy if you study for it. The classes never lasted two hours and were pretty entertaining. Barely used the book so I'd split it with someone because it was expensive. You won't regret taking Estes' class though.

Jason is a super chill teacher, not only does he present the material in a good way but makes sure that everyone understands what he is saying before he moves on. He is a young guy and understands what it's like to still learn and understands students difficulties on math. His lectures are pretty interesting and he tells some jokes and stories that are pretty hilarious. He will always be willing to help you and is very responsible about his office hours.... He was always in there when he said he would be and overall a great professor. If you have the chance to take Jason take him!!! He's SICK!!!!

This class was a lot of work. The homework was a lot shorter than I am used to, but it took a while to finish. I felt like the exams were pretty straightforward in that he only tested you on material he has covered with the homework and lecture. The only problem is that some of the homework problems were challenging so if I didn\'t quite understand the concept it screwed me over on the exams. He did post solutions to all the homeworks though. Lecture was quite entertaining. One day he would have out of control energy, another day he would seem drained, then another day tell stories, and then seem stressed. It was kind of funny. I would definitely take him again except that I am done with math forever (no offense)! Ha ha.

Very smart guy, and my favorite math professor so far. Sometimes his exams are difficult, but he prepares you for the exam and ALL the problems come straight from lecture and homework (and he promises not to do otherwise). He doesn't curve, but he does count the final for a lot more if you do better on it than one of your midterms which helped me out a lot. I tell all of my buddies to take him, especially since I came to his office hours a lot and he was always willing to help.

Jason knows what it's like to still learn, meaning he is willing to explain something four different ways if he has to to help you understand the material. His exams are all based off of the homework and the lectures, the midterms very straight forward. Jason takes very good care of his students and presents the material very well.

Jason's a really good teacher. I've found that he explains the material very well, and is always willing to help you out during office hours. The tests are difficult, but at the same time, he gives us EXACTLY (and I do mean exactly) what's going to be on the test, except some numbers might be switched around. If you study that information he gives you the day before the test, you'll be golden on the tests. And as other people have mentioned, if you get a higher score on the final then on either one of the two midterms, he'll replace your lower midterm grade with the final grade, so it can really help boost your grade.

Estes is AWESOME!! Take him!! He can sometimes go a little fast on certain things, but if you ask to explain, he is more than happy too. He checks his email about 6 times a day, so if you have a question and no class that day, you can get a response anyways in about 2 hours. Very good professor.

Estes is a pretty good teacher I felt like I actuallly LEARNED the material. The final is just the midterm questions with different numbers, but the class average for it was pretty low. This was not mentioned in the other comments but if you are a girl take estes he\'s super hot it makes going to a 9am class slightly more worth it and interesting. Office hours werent very helpful though. If you dont go to class he will notice. One time he took down everyones name that wasnt in class and Im pretty sure he made sure all those people failed. I feel like he was fair, but make sure you ask questions if you dont understand something from a lecture or assessment because it WILL be on the final.

Estes is the most fair and balanced teacher on homework and his grading. He averages about 10 problems a week that focus only on the needed material. His younger age definitely reflects his greater ability to relate to his class. He balances between the material and the need of the material in our own lives. With Jason you will never have to be worried about your grade because he is their to help you out. I won't spoil the beans on how he grades, but his final is a compilation of his first two midterms. If you pass the final, you pass the class literally. Yes he gives partial credit and i would recommend this notion. The midterms are their to tell you what you do not know. The final is to show you what you do know. He is chill and answers any questions. Jason is a gift for those who need to pass calculus. Take him at all costs!!! Also you may want to like pepsi :).

I was not looking forward to taking Math 142 last quarter, and am glad I took it from Jason. He answers questions before lecture, after lecture, and during office hours. Sometimes he explains something really well, and sometimes I get confused, but he always gets me to understand if I ask about it. I am taking Jason again this quarter for Calc 3 - I won't take any other professor. His exams are not the easiest, but he grades so fairly - he allows a final exam grade to replace a midterm grade which I think is awesome.

THIS IS A REVIEW FOR 141 , 142 , and 143 Jason is the best teacher i have had at poly, why? 1. He is our age, he understands us, and cuts the material to a min. to a need to know basis. 2. He tells you exactly what type of problems (usually in order too!) of the problems on the test. 3. You need to pass one midterm, the other is dropped if you turn in hw. 4. The final is a combination of both midterms, in order, only with numbers changed. The rest of final may be 2 problems from last 2 weeks of class, which by the way he tells you exactly what they are. So I hope you understand that you will have to try hard to fail his final. 5. The hw is turned in weekly, in which he makes it max 15 problems (max weekly hw was 2 hours). 5. In class he has excellent stories, and we get into his life. Ask him about his band. --- He is the enjoyable , don't worry about grade, calc teacher. Enjoy, and try to take him all 3 calc's. -- Oh don't get confused , he looks like another student, but he is your teacher.

DO NOT TAKE ESTES unless you are committed to going to his office hours daily and plan on studying several days before each midterm. THE CLASS AVERAGE FOR THE FINAL WAS 65.23% . THE MAJORITY OF THE CLASS DID NOT PASS. Yes, he is a really cool teacher, probably the coolest you'll ever have, and that is why he has such good ratings. But honestly, does it really matter. class usually last til the :45 of the hour. He told us he is sick and tired of teaching Calc 2. He is pretty much a math genius, he can do crazy math in his head, he never gets anything wrong. the problem with this is he flies through the material really fast and its hard to take notes and comprehend what he is teaching. Office hours are excellent. tests are not straightforward. for example one question we had to intergrate by parts, easy. then im like now what. well we had to do it again then manipulate it to get the answer. it is questions like that that made the avg for the midterm 63%. the second midterm was 70% the average for the class was 66%. MOST PEOPLE FAIL THE CLASS. Its not even a major class. Just take an easy teacher and pass the class or get a decent grade. and if you are on AP deffently dont take him.

Probably one of the coolest guys I've ever had as a professor. He assigns about 15 homework problems a week which is great! He tells you exactly what you need to know for the midterms which come straight from the lecture notes. He does give you the solutions to the midterms and the final looked exactly like the midterms. He is very helpful in office hours. He doesn't curve which sucks, but he does drop your lowest midterm if your final exam is higher than one of them. Overall great professor but hard.

Not bad, no quizzes which takes away from knowing how he grades or how you're doing...he slowly tells u his grading policy throughout the quarter (leaves it out of his extremely limited half-page syllabus). He drops the lowest midterm for the final (forgot to mention that if he does this your homework grade also won't count which is really confusing and kinda takes away from the benefit bc he wont do the replacement unless u have a 75% or higher on your homework anyway). Over all hes not a bad professor in preparing your for upcoming calc, he knows the material very well but he kinda seems like he'd rather be out partying than teaching the class...overalll i'd give em a C considering he only has a masters thats not bad...by the way, he won't round your grade even if your .00001 from the next letter and he doesnt curve at all...my class had a 70.0 average :-\

estes taught the calc two material exactly how i think all calc should be taught. he would go over the theorems and equations by first deriving them for the class then he would spend the rest of the time doing examples. unlike most calc classes i\'ve had, his hw and exams were nothing new. don\'t get me wrong he\'s not an easy teacher but all of his exam questions have been gone over in class and will be familiar if you pay attention and do the hw. also you can raise your grade in the class by testing high on the final for that part of the class. this means one could technically not show up till the final and pass the class. i would take him again in a heartbeat, overall great teacher

Jason is an awesome teacher! His class is really laid back. The tests are kinda difficult but he tells you exactly what you need to know to get a decent grade! Although calc 3 sucks, he makes you learn only the important things, not all the extras , and that's what he tests you on. He is a younger teacher that really knows math and he is really attractive too! Take him if you can

Estes is a pretty good teacher. He is young and dresses like a student. He assigns weekly homework and it does affect your grade a decent amount. He is kind of lazy when it comes to doing long problems. He usually only does the easy problems in class and then your like wth on hw. Your lowest midterm grade gets replaced by the final grade. The class is a lot of work and you will need to study. Calc 3 is mostly just memorizing equations.

He is cool, and I thought he was a student when he walked in on the first day because he is very young, and dresses like a student. He tells stories about his time as a student at cal poly sometimes, but mostly he just goes over examples on the board. He has 3 midterms and a final, but your lowest midterm grade gets replaced with your final grade if you do better on your final. It was really hard for me to stay awake, but he knows what he is talking about and is really excited about it.

Excellent teacher. He might be young, but he gets his stuff. It was his first time teaching calc iv and he wasn't so great in the beginning, but it seemed to just click one day and he was able to put it together in a way that was clear and easy to understand. His midterms are so far so good. I would definitely recommend him.

Estes is a funny guy who tells random interesting stories in class to keep everyone awake, thats why i wish he was a GE teacher rather than calc 4. Hes not very good at lecturing and does all the practice problems himself which doesn't help the students. Tests are pretty hard, he doesn't curve, and hw is every week. Overall hes an alright teacher.

Sometimes I understand lecture perfectly clear, and sometimes I get lost, but Estes is very helpful when I have a question and is very easy to talk to. The tests are hard, and he doesn't curve... but the class didn't do so well on our second exam so he threw them out and gave another one. He is by far the coolest teacher at Poly. My impression is that he really cares about the performance of the class.

Great Professor. His tests are almost exactly like the HW, and if you study the HW and do all of it and take the time to understand those questions, the midterms and final will be no problem. His lectures are almost always clear, and if you don't understand something he is good at rewording it so that people can understand. He also tells great stories that keep the class interesting and make it worth showing up every day. Take Jason if you get the chance!

Jason is the frat boy type of professor. He goes off on random stories. He made his own homework which can be frustrating because there is no anwer key to help you know if it is right or if the way you are answering is what you want. The good thing is that his tests are in the same format as his homework..so there are no surprises about content. He does, howevver, make his tests difficult in that he does not use whole numbers so the answers are random fractions sometimes. Calc 4 was so much easier than calc 3. I dont know if it was him as a teacher..or the material but its not an extremely difficult math class. One thing..Unless you make him learn your name he wont and he is not very helpful at office hours.
