Awesome teacher! Take Crowe! Only class I would ever look forward to going to at 7AM. Make sure to complete each lab. Read over the grading criteria and do every part. This will get you the grade you want in the class.

Crowe knows his shit pretty good. He is easier then Mastin from what I heard in terms of quizes and midterms. The class is 4 hours long although if you don't have problems you can usally finish early. Your grade is based on 1 midterm 25%, Quizes 10%, Labs 40%, and the final 25%. He is a fair grader and is not nitpicky about the labs. The class itself is pretty cool however sometimes his lectures get boring and long. Overall he is a good instructor who will help you out. I recommend him for anyone who needs to take Brae 239

Crowe has been one of my favorite teachers at Poly. He presents the necessary stuff clearly and makes the class fun, adding in interesting stories about his experience in professional surveying. He isnt too nit-picky about stuff so you learn the concepts very well. I would highly highly recommend making sure you get Crowe for surveying!

He is a really good teacher. He has had years of expirence in the field. There are quizzes every week, but they aren't hard. The hardest part of the class was waking up at 7 am. other than that it was really easy and fun. there were two midterms and a final. all were very easy.

TAKE CROWE!!!! He is the easiest professor you can get for Brae 239. His slideshows are boring but he doesn't care if you fall asleep during them. He is a very nice and understandable guy and his tests are EASY. He lets you use your field book on the midterm and the final AND he gives you a sample midterm and a sample final so all you have to do is copy down formulas into your field book and you'll get an A on the tests. The lab reports take a little while to finsih but that's not really his fault. He has a quiz every week based on the previous lab and he lets you use the field book on the quizzes too so they're pretty easy. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT AN EASY A

For surveying, you want to get crowe. He's ten times better than mastin and a very nice guy. his lectures are really boring but try not to fall asleep in them. Tons of people do and it makes me feel bad for him. Nice teacher, nice guy and he's also very knowledgable in his subject. He's been a surveyor for his whole life and has tons of experience. Great teacher!

Specifics first: its 4 hours with Crowe at a time - a one hour lecture than a 3 hour lab. He usually ends up lecturing a little over an hour though. Grade based on labs (40%) weekly quizzes (10%), 1 midterm and a final (25 each). I am in a kind of love-hate relationship with Crowe/BRAE 239. The plus side is you can get an A in the class with literally maybe 3 hours of out-of-class work. I am not done with the class, but I have a 95 or so, and all I've done out of class is studied for about an hour for the midterm. On the other hand, this is a waste of time. His hour plus lectures could be covered in 20 minutes, but he rambles and explains really, really basic stuff 3-4 times. One of the labs consists of creating a topographic map, which basically consists of connecting a bunch of dots. I felt like I was in 4th grade. At the start of the quarter he boasts about the amazing technology we use, but we don't use a computer to make the map for us. That is why we have computers. Weird. labs generally get out 1/2-1 hour early. bottom line: easy class, still waste of time.

This guy is a Maverick. Take him for an A. The whole class is grunt work, crunching numbers, and studying the practice midterm/final. Make sure to put lots of notes into your field book because you get to use them on the tests. On the last day of class he did a lecture on boundary law and since lots of people left early, he decided to put a lot of those questions on the Final.

He's one of those teachers who doesn't have to teach, he just does because he's so passionate about the subject and he loves it. He's good at what he does and he still does it. Teaching is pretty much just his hobby. I enjoyed him. Tests and quizzes can be a little tough if you don't study though.

Keith Crowe is the teacher you want for BRAE 239. He is super chill and is always ready to help. Some of the labs suck and you will be in the field the whole time, but most get out early. He lets you use your field book on your midterm and final, i dont think Mastin allows that. Overall take Crowe, he knows his stuff and is understanding to students if you ever have an issue with missing class or turning in something late.

The labs can be a bit long and frustrating, but Keith is an excellent teacher and is very friendly. He's very professional and really knows the material. He's a fair grader, the quizzes and exams are a fair representation of the course material, and the workload is quite manageable.

Crowe was a fairly good instructor. He knows what he is teaching but his explanations can be a little dry. Also his strategy for clarifying a point is to explain it again. His tests and quizzes are pretty basic as long as you pay attention in class and actually do the lab instead of copying it from your team. Overall an ok teacher.

Crowe was a boss. great professor, really cared about his students, tried his best to make a boring class entreating, and made sure that he walked through everything so you would actually understand it. This is one of the professors who i would love to have again but unforntantly he doesn't teach any more of my class.s

FANTASTIC teacher and a truly stand-up person. He is extremely helpful both in class and office hours and will bend over backwards to help even just one person. Yes the class is long, but that gives you plenty of time to fully understand the lab and material.

Mr. Crowe is a great teacher. He knows what he is doing, being a professional land surveyor. Surveying became my hobby because of him, even though I cannot afford the equipment. I am considering selling my car for surveying equipment, because this old brute made it worth it. TAKE HIM

Prof. Crowe is a good teacher. He has been doing surveying since he was a kid, so he definitely knows what he's talking about. However, he talks to his students as if they know as much as he does, and the lectures can get confusing because you don't know what he's talking about. The class itself is moderately difficult. There is a lot to learn in this class. The math is simple trig and arithmetic, but tedious and long. He can be funny at times. The labs for the most part are pretty fun and interesting. Its nice to go outside and get some fresh air. His weekly quizzes are pretty tricky. The textbook is pretty much useless in this course. You don't need it. I would recommend Crowe over Mastin by a long shot though.

PERSONALITY: Ok, so he's an older guy, but in a good way. He's like that wise grandpa that is still very capable and knows a ton about everything. He's approachable, helpful, and very experienced (this comes in handy a LOT). In the field (literally), you can expect him to offer very good advice as well as important 'tricks of the trade' that you wouldn't learn otherwise but can end up saving you a lot. LECTURE: The lab-and-lecture-combo constitute a 4 hour time block (2 of these per week). Because of this, the lectures may be either a quick 30 minutes or almost 2 hours. The lab times are equally flexible, adjusting the the lecture times. As far as the actual labs work, you will work in a crew of 3-4 individuals and use legitimate surveying equipment to take actual surveys. Pretty much the kind of things you would be doing in job training to become a surveyor. Now, some of the labs are difficult and some are easy. You will be walking into a cow pasture at some point, so be ready for that. FINAL THOUGHTS: If you take this class, and you put in the effort to learn, you will be rewarded-potentially more so than the amount of your effort. Also, try to learn those 'tricks of the trade' they're pretty useful.

Crowe is the man! i would recommend him to anyone looking to take BRAE 239. His homework grader is very stingy and you have to do everything in a very specific manner but i averaged a C on HW and still got a great grade in the class. He is a great teacher and very personable if you talk about things he likes, i.e. boating and surveying. Take him over any other choices. plus he lets you sleep in the lectures which is a major plus because he puts them all up on Polylearn

hands down, Crowe is a badass. He has been surveying since he was a kid and is a professional Land Surveyor and Engineer. He is very approachable in class and office hours, always willing to answer any questions or concerns. The lecture can be pretty boring sometimes, but once you do the lab you understand the material somewhat better and they can be fun/interesting. The midterm and final are difficult, but he curves it, so if you study you'll do fine. I thought this class would suck, but by the end of the quarter i enjoyed it and learned everything to know about the basics of land surveying.
