I thought she was great. If you was having problems on an assignment she would talk to you one on one. She made the assignments fun to do. the only problem I have was the goup thing I hate being in groups. She has a great attitude when she comes into class. I she think it inspired alot of the students to do their best for her.

Annie is one of the better english teachers here because she really does care about her students. She wants everyone to pass her class and be successful. Writing is the key to passing this class because she really doesn't give any hw. Just write some decent essays and she will help you along the way. She also doesn't make you come to class during conferences for essays so thats another benefit of her class. On the negative side, the class can get boring at times so be prepared to just sit and listen.

If you hate to write papers in less then an hour, then don't take this class, but if you want the easiest A or B in this class, then this english class is for you. Mrs. Fauchier is a very laid back professor, and she follows the class guidelines to the T. It helps if you write really colorful, and throw in a bunch of metaphors and even write about personal experiences, because she really likes that fluffy foo foo stuff. Most laid back class i have ever had.

Let me just say that before I took this class I HATED english. Really. In fact, I already flunked it first quarter with a different teacher. But Mrs. Fauchier (don't ask me how to say that) is awesome. She was so laid back and really flexible about late assignments and stuff. I think she was in an extra good mood last quarter cuz she was about to get married (good news for everyone!). So, cuz of that, I think, we got out early all the time and she canceled class a lot. I got an A-, which is the best english grade I've gotten my whole life. Take this teacher!!!

Ms. Fauchier, pronounced Fa-shay, was a pretty cool teacher. It seemed that almost once a week we had a class canceled and a second day a week we got out like a half hour early of an hour long class. I took the class for credit because i'm not very good at english, but after taking the class, i regret doing so, i think i could have earned a respectable grade. ALSO, if her daughter ever comes in to teach, SHE IS UNBELIEVABLY HOT!!! She only came in one day because Ms. Fauchier couldn't make it but damn, she was gorgeous.

Mrs. Garner is an extremely nice person. She simply loves the work that she does. Her class is comprised of 5 major essays a movie review and a bunch of in-class quizzes and essays. Garner is a fair grader, however she expects a lot of work out of you for an English 134 class. At one point I had 3 essays to due in 4 days. You must attend class everyday and you have to keep a journal. Even though i liked Mrs. Garner as a person she didn't realy teach much. You would write an essay and get it back and she wouldn't have anything to say about it. Overall, it is a decent class.

This class was pretty easy, even though she says outright that it's difficult to get an A. It takes me FOREVER to bang out a decent essay but it seems like she's a pretty lenient grader. You don't learn anything about proper essay structure or grammar, when you're in class you're either doing an in class essay or reviewing some other person's writing.

Well I did get an A in this class but it was not because this professor is amazing. Pros: She is quite a nice person and class was rarely boring. Her sense of humor is pretty good. Class was cancelled a couple of times this quarter. If you like to pay money to have your class cancelled, I suppose this can be viewed as a pro. There is also quite a lot of writing between homework and in-class essays, so even if you don't want it to, your writing will improve simply because you will be writing so much. Also, essays were taken straight from the book so you had a lot of choice on what to write about. Cons: There didn't seem to be much organization to this class. She never actually lectured about how to write essays well. Her office hours were not that good either and twice I showed up to get help and she was not there. On the day before the final important essay was due, she cancelled her office hours without telling us! Overall take garner if you want to write a lot and don't mind having no real instruction. Her class is pretty interesting and so is the text book. But if you want organization, lectures, and feedback on your essays, don't take garner.

She is a really nice and funny lady but not really a good teacher. I don't think she actually lectured once the whole quarter, just assigned essays and things to do out of the text book. She also grades quite randomly and doesn't really explain why she gave you the grade that she did. It was a fairly easy class over all and got cancelled quite a few times, which I'm not complaining about. Annie is a very nice lady...probably the nicest professor I've had. She's also pretty funny and gives some interesting writing assignments that are rather thought provoking and usually not very long. Overall, I loved this class because it was interesting and easy...very easy in fact, I wrote a paper after about 4 beers, turned it in the next morning and got a B+ on it...ended up with an A in the class and put the least time into this class out of all my classes. I had Annei Garner and have to say she was one of the coolest teachers that i had my first year. She had fun assignments, that pretty much let you write about whatever you want as long as it pertained to the topic. She Is pretty flaky, i think she missed 4 classes total during the quater. Garner is crazy and hilarious!!! she says the funniest stuff ever!! Definietly any entertaining class, I looked forward to going everyday. You really get to know everyone in the class. The bad part is that the whole class is essays that she grades pretty harshly on, but she lets you rewrite most of them and gives you a lot of help on what exactly she wants. But if you don't write it how she likes it, then you get a bad grade. There was some quizzes that cam out of nowhere and pretty much everyone failed, but the students grade them, so you could cheat. Basically, she acted like she was high the whole time, she was really funny and has a good heart. If you take her, expect a C.

Garner's class was pretty laid back. Expect a lot of canceled classes. There are 4 essays due, and no final because of it. On some of the essays she'll do a workshop where only 4 or 5 students show up each day of class to go over their essay with her...the rest get the day off. Peer-reviews are a joke, but if you get them done quick, you can leave early. Essay topics are pretty easy and she bias towards environmentalism, human rights, etc. I got 95% on the first two essays, and 75% and 80% on the other two and still got an A in the class.

Ms. Garner is a very flaky teacher who changes the schedule she hands out, almost once a week. Essays are almost never due the day she says, and if the essay is the required length you are guaranteed a C. You can rewrite every essay for a better grade if you wish to do so. Expect class to be cancelled 2 to 3 times a quarter. if you are looking to fulfill a ge requirement i would definitely recommend garner. she does not ask a whole lot of her students and she likes to ramble about strange topics with her students. she has a lot of weird (and somewhat funny) stories about her past so i encourage you to ask questions when you're in class. you write 4 essays over the quarter. you do peer edits during class which is nice because most people edit quickly and take the rest of the class off. she's very understanding and fair as far as grading goes i think. there are no midterms or finals so everything is based off reading quizzes and essays. if you're not happy with an essay grade she will critique it, tell you what she liked and didn't like, and then you can rewrite it. i would definitely take her again.

Basically Garner is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She constantly says stupid things that don't make sense, has weird mood swings, and plays favorites in terms of grading. The class itself is a general english writing course, it shouldn't be such a struggle to get above a C- on any given assignment. She frequently cancels class, then messes up her own syllabus and guide to when things are due, then blames the students for not knowing due dates. I always felt like the class was against her arguing these cases, instead of her just helping us to learn the material. Aside from daily assignments, much of the course is based on essay grades. Garner marks up even the best writer's papers with the word 'akward' dozens of times. If she simply doesn't like the way it sounds, even if grammatically correct, she writes this and says you need to revise it. After she feels smart for making a lot of corrections on an essay she will give 9 out of 10 of them C's. I strongly recommend against garner for english 134, she has no idea whats going on, didn't help me become a better writer, and will make you stressed out the entire quarter.

Annie Garner was AMAZING! Okay, yeah, she is a tad bit scatter-brained, and she says some things that she might not mean to voice, but she is still cool. She cancels class frequently, so keep up on your email. There is reading once a week and the book is mostly pictures so don't freak out. There are quizzes, so be prepared. From what I hear about the other 134 teachers, Garner's class is hands down a lot easier. I had the class twice a week Monday Wednesday for two hours but rarely did we ever go over 1 hr and 30 mins. And very often the she will dismiss half the class after 1 hour or less if you don't need to conference with her about your essay. I think we did one grammer sheet the whole quarter and it seems like the she makes the class up as she goes. Due dates are more like suggestions and extend all the time. There is reading, but it\'s never followed up on. There are like four or five essay\'s due the whole quarter that determine your grade in the class. There is no grading rubric. Ms. Garner was a little bit unorganized when it came to following her set syllabus. I was a bit skeptical when I first started taking this class. Professor Garner had a very unique and different style of teaching english than I was used to. However, being a Journalism major I was very excited to start writing my essays. I took AP english classes in high school (didn't take the tests so still had to take this course) and thought that my writing abilities were up to par. Basically, I thought this class would be an easy A. When I got my first paper returned, I was surprised to discover that I had received a C. Immediately, I went into office hours. Professor Garner went through my paper with me and explained what improvements I needed to make in order to receive a better grade. I started attending office hours regularly and developed a great teacher-student relationship with Mrs. Garner. I felt comfortable writing my papers about touchy subjects and was able to pinpoint the exact emotions I wad feeling regarding those subjects. Garner taught me how to relay my emotions through my writing without using big words or fluffed up sentences like my previous teachers had taught me. She taught my how to write efficiently while still getting my point across. I loved her class by the end of the quarter and loved each assignment she handed out. She lets you revise your essays for a better grade and really pushes her students to excel. She made a huge impact on my writing abilities and for that I will be forever grateful. Garner is a better person than she is professor. Her lectures were simple. Most of the time it was just her in front of the class talking and asking us simple questions. Your grade is really dependent on your 5 essays not really anything else. There's a few assignments/reading quizzes here and there but they don't add up for much I don't think. She said most people end her class with a C and I ended with a B+ and I don't consider myself to be a good writer. The trick is to understand what Garner likes and doesn't like because at the end of the days she's the one that'll be grading your essays. Really hone in what she's saying when you're going over different writings in class. See what she appreciates in writing and what she doesn't. Take EVERY essay into her office hours to get her perspective. It's only 5 essays so you can definitely make time to stop by her office hours 5 times in a quarter. And they help immensely. Garner's a sweetheart you won't regret having her as a professor.

I'll agree with everyone else in saying that Garner is a very nice, and easily approachable person, yet she definitely is an airhead. The annoying part about her class is that she would give out so much random work due the following week so that you would feel a bit overwhelmed. Although, when it really came down to it the work was really easy. I have no problem with writing so for me the class was easy, I honestly put no stress or effort into it, but for someone who has trouble writing they may feel differently. Garner's grading is extremely random, you don't learn how to become a better writer, just how to write to please the teacher. When she edits your paper she just changes single words for what would "sound better." The class itself went by fast and I'm sure she's much better than other teachers out there. Professor Garner seems like a genuinely nice person. She is very disorganized, and cancels a lot of class. There are several essays due throughout the quarter, a couple quizzes, and a group debate. You write two 3-page research papers (1 pro, 1 con on the same topic)instead of a final. She asks if you have your rough drafts, but never collects them. You must attend one on-campus lecture on your own and write a short paper summarizing it. Our midterm was extremely easy- we discussed some reading in class, and then wrote an in-class essay covering the exact points we discussed. Pretty easy to get an A.

Surprisingly unorganized, never knew what was going to be due when. Nothing personal against her, but it was frustrating to show up with a paper ready to turn in and find out she had forgotten about it and decides to change the due date.

Okay, Garner is really spacey and she tends to get off-topic, but she\'s hilarious and its really fun to be in her class. She tells a lot of ridiculous stories from her youth. The Friday classes get cancelled a lot; I think we only had to go 3 times. The assignments aren\'t very hard, and a lot of times when no one knew something was due, she\'d give us another day or two to turn it in. There\'s no final, only a final essay. On the last day of class she shows you the video of her family on Family Feud, which is (needless to say) awesome! One thing I didn\'t like was how she made us do peer-editing for every single paper, but it wasn\'t that bad. Overall, I got an A and I didn\'t have to work very hard. But if you like to stick to the schedule on the syllabus, don\'t take her or you\'ll go crazy.

Professor Garner is a lot more organized this quarter than the previous quarters, although she did cancel class a lot. We wrote about 4 essays, only 2-3 pages each, which is very generous compared to other english 145 teachers. Essay break down: Narrative, editorial, film review (you watch a film in class and critique it), speaker essay (you listen to any speaker and critique them). Great thing about her is that she lets you revise all your essays as much as you want, so take advantage of that. There's a debate which is really not bad at all, very easy work, just do the minimum requirement and you'll be fine. She didn't give us much "busy work" like the other evaluations said. One easy midterm, one final essay. Another great thing is she gives you a chance for extra credit, very easy points so take advantage of that too. Professor Garner is not the best teacher I've had at Cal Poly, but I would take her over other english teachers. She's very friendly and easy to talk to, don't be afraid to ask her questions.

Good luck learning something in this class! She is nice and all but she has to be the LEAST ORGANIZED professor at Cal poly. Her lectures are useless and she is constantly off topic. It seems like not that big of a deal but after a while it gets super annoying. She grades essays pretty harshly and doesn't explain why. She just says things like "there was awkward phrasing," or "I don't understand your paper." She's not the worst teacher, but going to two hours of this class twice a week is fairly miserable.

If you want to work your butt off to get a horrible grade and learn absolutely nothing then take this class. Otherwise I don't recommend it. Garner is literally the worst teacher I think I've ever had in my 13yrs of school. I am a good student and generally do well in English but Garner gave me Cs on almost all of my assignments. She grades very subjectively. She thinks she is an easy grader because she gives you opportunities to revise your drafts, however she is so disorganized during her office hours, that she only spends about 5 minutes criticizing you. I revised one of my papers 3 times and basically re-wrote it, and still got a C on it. I would avoid Garner at all cost.

Definitely not the best professor, but far from the worst. I think people are being really hard on her for being disorganized and a bit of a difficult grader, but maybe I was the only one who went in not expecting much. 4 revisable essays and a few random assignments. I advise you to try and get your essays done as early as possible so that you can go into her office hours and get them revised. If you do that, an A is definitely possible, guaranteed B. I got an A simply because I went in and revised all of my essays and turned them into high grades. She's a nice, easy to talk to lady. She can ramble a lot during class and can sometimes have a grumpy sort of mean streak to her. She tends to be disorganized so just make sure you stay on her for when things are due. Honestly, I would recommend her to a friend. But I would hope there are better professors out there.

I suck at english but got an A in this class. Went to office hours two or three times, that probably was enough to get me the grade. Class was cancelled a few times. Literally the perfect GE

Though Garner was nice and willing to help students with their essays, she was probably one of the most disorganized professors I have ever had. Essays were assigned at completely random dates, preventing students from focusing on a single essay at any one time. She would also go off on tangents throughout every lecture. By the time the quarter ended, I had almost no idea what was going on. My advice would be to do all the assigned readings and to keep track of all essays and due dates.

Great Class, perfect amount of work for a GE, enough to make you think but easy enough to get an A (GPA BOOSTER!). Garner is easy to talk to/ ask questions, good humor, talks a lot about euthanasia and da herb, very liberal. Can be disorganized occasionally, but she was super mellow with our class and let us extend the deadline on our papers if we needed extra time and was very understanding. 4 easy 3-4 page papers, 1 5 page paper, a group presentation (joke of my life, took only an hr), and NO FINAL! You won't regret taking her class.

Garner treated her class like a GE, which was great because you could tell her you had other tests and she would let you turn in essays in late. Her syllabus was incredibly disorganized, basically there were five essays and one presentation. And you could edit every essay and turn it in for a re-grade, and if you go over it with her during office hours theres no reason to get below an B in the class. But Annie's super laid-back and goes off on tangents a lot, you can tell she must've been a hippie back in the day.

Professor Garner is easily the least organized teacher I have had. I learned...well I didn't learn a thing to be honest. She's a nice lady, a good person but she is a terrible teacher. Her assignments usually don't make sense. If I had the chance to register all over again, I would've taken a different teacher who wouldn't have wasted a quarter of my life

I highly recommend Professor Garner. She had a very laid back attitude, and kept the class laughing all quarter long. She did assign busy work every once in a while but it wasn't hard, and it was an easy way to earn points towards your grade. Not only is she an awesome woman....but class was canceled a bunch.

Garner is the LEAST organized professor I\'ve had at Poly. She gave an extremely tentative syllabus at the beginning of the quarter and used only subjective rubrics (when she used a rubric at all). Getting out of class early was great the first five times, but there was a point when I realized that I really wasn\'t getting my tuitions-worth. I learned nothing in this class, although I do value professional writing and was looking forward to improving my skills. A plus for Garner is that she is very helpful for poor writers (she will go over a paper with you step-by-step).

I can't believe all of the positive feedback this lady has gotten on this site. She has to be not only one of the most diorganized, cooky people i've ever met, but she also could very well be one of the stupidest as well. She NEVER taught ANYTHING in this class. Not a single lecture. Not one. She would bullshit with us, assign something perhaps, and then let us go. The rediculous thing is that she made a big deal about attendance at the beginning of the quarter, and then later on would show up 10 minutes late, and let us go 20 minutes early... regularly! Take her if you want a bullshit easy A for minimal work, which may not be such a bad idea for some of these stupid english classes they make us take. But don't even consider her if you care about the integrity of your education. At the end of the day, thats why were here, right?

She is very exciting and creative instructors. She is strict with her homework since they constitute the grade for the class. However, if you show interest, effort and zeal for writing and creativity, you will definitely get an 'A'. In addition, BE PROFESSIONAL when writing an essay, avoid slang and slanderous terms.

such a sweet lady. she's hilarious and tries to make the class fun. for anyone who complains about her, they're just mad because they don't know how to write. she is a very reasonable in grading. you will succeed in this class if you try. also, she cancels class and extends deadlines, which is great for people with a busy quarter.

I might as well have not had a class. the times she did lecture it was just noting some things from the textbook. Formatting essays means more than actual content, and you can work hard on an essay and still not get that A. Pick another class if you want to learn something, her class just gives you a grade based off what you can already do.

Professor Garner is a very nice lady. However, she is very disorganized and due dates are never actually finalized. She expects that you follow formatting from the book, and if you do so you will be fine. Group work however was graded harshly.

Mrs. Fauchier's class was very laid back and fun, but stayed true to the course outline. She assigns a lot of writing and reading, but it will transform you into a better writer. Although I feel her grading is influenced more by her interest in the topic being covered in your essays rather than how you write them, she nonetheless provides helpful comments and corrections. Overall, I highly recommend her for this particular course.

Annie was freakin' awesome! I'm now taking english with Howell (tear) and realize how awesome of a teacher Annie is. She presents everything very well and is ready and willing to help or just listen. She cancelled class once on us because her daughter was sick, so i'm not sure what the pervious statement of he always cancelling class is all about. She's fair in her grading and you have to write a bit in this class, but it couldn't be more fun. If you have to take ENGL -0145 (and you almost always do), take Annie... she's an awesome teacher and even better person at heart. You'll love her!
