What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.

Tom Eltzroth is an instructor that knows what he is talking about. It is his ability to bring real life experiences into the class room that makes him above average. There are many things to be learned from Tom, and I believe he is an assett to the E.H.S. department.

This class is very useful if you are going into the horticulture imdustry and need to do plant presentations and such. Mr. Eltzroth is very thorough in every aspect. (I wasn't aware of the time that would be needed to complete the numerous projects.) Just be sure you don't have a heavy load of classes when taking this course, it only has one 3 hour lab and one 1 hour lecture but you need to invest many hours for research, photography and speech skills. It is truely an advanced plant materials class.

This was one of my best classes in college. I enjoyed the projects very much and learned about the diversity of horticulture. The projects were time consuming but I loved the research. I appreciated the opportunity to be creative in a normally scientific and left-brained discipline. I know this course will benefit me in my future horticultural career.

As a professor, Mr. Eltzroth is very organized and thorough. Througout the quarter projects are assigned which include group work, individual presentations, photography, reasearch and creativity. Mr.E basically lays down the foundation, but it is up to the student to get as much as he/she can out of it. These projects also allow you to interact with people in the industry and exposes you to plants that you may not be familiar with. Basically what you put into the class is what you get out of it. It is up to the student to research and explore the avenues that are available to them, they will most likely lead to different avenues and contacts. I enjoyed the class and got a lot out of it. One tip: Be sure to pick a term paper topic that you like, you will be getting very familiar with it.

This class by far is one of the best classes I have taken at Cal Poly. For EHS students this class really pulls together all of the info that has been presented in our other classes. The most inportant part of the class is that it teaches you to learn for yourself, rather than to just be spoon-feed material which will be regurgitated for a test and then possibly forgotten. Oral presentations are often difficult for students, but I feel I really improved over the course of the quarter, and would even recommend that a fourth presentation be assigned. This course is not difficult if you are willing to put in the effort, but yes, you will spend a lot of time on the assignments (if you want a good grade). This is NOT a class for the lazy student, but it is a great class for the serious student who enjoys learning. I really appreciated how current Mr.E is with his term paper topics, and that he changed the course as needed to keep up with what's new in the world of horticulture.

I think Mr E. is one of the better professors in the department. He is very excited about teaching the courses and he really knows his "stuff". I think it's nice to have an instructor who is willing to help students. EHS 315 is an unusal class in that it is the student doing the research and "teaching". It is time consuming but yet, it helps prepare the student for the real world. Everything in the class is useful, especially the photography info.

This class has a lot of busy work, which is stated in the beginning but gets pretty hectic. Projects are applicable and useful to the 2/3 of the students in class. Learning to find rescources was quite valuable.

Mr. E is a great teacher. He is a huge source of information and is always open and honest. He is one of those teachers that pushes you to do more, and to do it better. The funny part is that it usually works and it isn't until later that you sit back and say, 'Wow, look what I just did' Thanks Mr. E.

EHS 315 is definitely a class worth taking. Although the course can be demanding at times, I enjoyed having the opportunity to research and meet project deadlines on my own. With the course now behind me, I see definite improvements in my presentation style, writing ability, and especially photography skills. Overall, a very helpful and informative course. Thanks Mr. E

This was a very well thought out class. The ammount of work was not difficult, as long as your kept ahead of what assignment was due. The only complaint I have was there should be a larger gap in the poster being due and the new plant forum presentation. One night was not enought. I had done the research on the plant earlier but that one night was not enought to shift gears from poster to presentation.
