Dr. Elghandour is a really smart guy, but he sometimes has a difficulty communicating well due to his accent. You have to pay close attention and sit close to the front to really understand him. He doesn't lecture much. Usually he will spend about 15-20 minutes writing stuff on the board and not say a word while doing it, then after that he briefly talks about what he wrote. He assigns between 10-20 homework problems per chapter, but the exams come right from the homework. I mean, he has you solve 2 or 3 homework probems for the midterms and the final. Ocasionally he gives quizzes. Study the homework well and you should do fine in this class. He is a very friendly person and is always willing to help you during his office hours, he practically will do the problem for you. Oh, his office is in MoDoc hall, which is that little shack behind engineering building 13, I had never heard of MoDoc hall until I took this class.

OK, I still don't know how this worked out. I often had no clue what this man was talking about. He teaches about the subject matter by doing the most simple problem possible and then expects you to know how to do a problem that is anything but. His test are just as hard. I will say this though. I did all of the homework, survived the tests and quizzes and was going to have a D+ ..... so was about half of the class as well (the other half was going to get low C's). THE SAVING GRACE. Extra Credit was 20% of the final grade. All you have to do is a real world proble, no matter how simple, present it and you get a huge grade boost. I ended up with a C+ only because I mess up a little bit on it. Had I done it right, I would have gotton a B. But come on! A whole grade? I'm not arguing, but I sure as hell didn't warn it, and neither did half of the class. So, recap. If you want to get a good grade, take him. If you want to learn anything, avoid him.

If you go into his office hours for help he will stay with hours, things will get cleared up for you. He gives extra credit project He will let you design and build your owen design model and you will do a test and He will help you and provide most of the materials to you. Dr. Elghandour is a really straight forward, simple, personable professor. He presents the material in an easy to understand, interesting way. There are some tricky things on some of his tests, but overall the tests are not hard. The homework is pretty hard, I just ended up copying it from his office hours and learning it later, before the test. Every test is open book, open notes, but be careful that you don't lose too much time looking through notes, it helps to know where all the examples and everything are in the book so you can turn straight to them. But in spite of his easy testing policy, you will learn a lot in his class, I highly recommend him.

Dr. Elghandour is an awesome instructor who really cares about his students. His office hours are really helpful all the time. I had him for his first quarter of teaching statics and was impressed at his level of organization. Elghandour explains things very clearly, he does a lot of problems in class The problem he explain in the class it is real application get you understood the materials, and he has a lot of office hours. He gives a quiz or Midterm every week keep you study the materials first by first and his quizzes from the book direct and were not that difficult but his midterm hard. Take El-Ghandour!!

I loved this professor; he is the best engineering teacher I have had. His lectures were interesting and he used lots of real-world examples on the board to help us understand when we would use this stuff. He is a generous grader, does assign around 8 problems every week for homework, and is flexible about turning in assignments late and rescheduling tests some time. Also, he is a really nice guy. He assignment Quiz every other week., the tests are very straight-forward if you attend his lecture. Dr. Ghandour is a very nice guy. Definitely try and get him if he's teaching... I would like to take a class from him again. I ended up not doing the homework, which was kind of bad since that lowered my grade 15%, but I did very well on the exams. So, take advantage of his office hours. I HIGHLY recommend this professor.

Dr. Ghandour is one of the best Strength of materials professors at Poly. Knows the material well, and is willing to work with you. Lectures were entertaining, even at any time, and he presented the concepts clearly and even used decent examples (real problems). There was three midterm, five quizzes and final, his final and M.T. was long and fairly difficult. Lots of homework (and it's 15% of the grade), He collects homework which is a bonus for credit grade because he grades very easy on it , but no more than expected in this level of course. Overall, an excellent professor and I would take him again if I had the chance.

Oh man, this guy is truly the best teacher I've ever had!! No joke! He is so incredibly helpful, especially at office hours. He sincerely wants to help all of his students as much as he possibly can. Make sure to take advantage of his office hours, and don't pretend like this class will be easy, cuz it's not. The tests were really hard (3 midterms and a final) the class averages were consistently in the 70's. It takes up lots of time, but as long as you study all the material and do your homework, you'll be fine!! If you read this, thanks Dr. Ghandour, you made this quarter bare able, and enjoyable!

Ghandour seems to be an alright guy, but I found him to be a lousy teacher. He does have an accent, but I don't really think that it was a main factor in his poor teaching. He lost all crediability with me when he incorrectly gave the moment of inertia of a semi-circle (he just took the moment of inertia of a full circle and divided it by two without transfering the axis to new centroid). Upon questioning he did not yeild. The entire class seemed to go like this, with his work not really making sense but somehow he would come out with the correct answer in the end (all of his examples were pre-prepared, so finding the correct answer was of course easy for him). Lectures were boaring and disorganized, and often it was obvious that the entire class had no idea what was going on. Often his lectures consisted of putting pre-prepared overheads of worked out problems up for about two seconds each, just long enough for you to say "what the hell is that" and then he'd put up the next one. After seeing this once or twice, you realize that trying to understand the lecture is pointless and resolve to learning it from the book. The book is alright, but it will not point out everything that you have to do. In office hours he was fast paced but reasonably knowledgable, however, it took about two seconds for him to point out the things I was doing wrong and send me on my way. That made me think I really should have been able to pick those things up in lecture and saved myself a trip to his lonely office in THE WELDING BUILDING. The homework for this class is very straightforward, make a reasonable attempt at it and you should get full credit as long as you write the correct answer at the bottom. I say that becasue it seems his grading is 90% getting the right answer and 10% the work to get there. The tests are nothing like the homework, but much harder. The tests probably are fair for what you should learn in 204, but you will not learn it with Ghandour. Grading is tough on quizes and tests. For the final exam there was not nearly enough time. Do not take this clown if you want to learn Materials, and do not take him if you want an A (he only gave 3 out of a class of 41, although this grade probably reflects how well you actually understand the material, there is no reason most students shouldn't understand it). If you do somehow get stuck with him, take solace in the face the you have another strengths class where you can hopefully actually learn.

Dr. ElGhandour is an ok professor, but very helpful guy. I was retaking this class becuase I failed it with Somoyaji last quarter. Boy, what a difference. Even though ElGhandour's accent is much heavier than Somoyaji's, the major difference is that Prof. ElGhandour actually enjoys his teaching, has a sense of humor and makes every effort to help you if you do not understand. His tests are rather difficult becuase they involve a lot of details; quizzes are usually similar to the homework problems, and homework is a breeze. I got perfect scores on HW even if I didnt get the problem right, becuase ElGhandour rewards his students for hard work and most importantly, just trying. I think it was becuase of Dr. ElGhandour's teaching that I actually passed the class this time around. If any of you needs to take CE204, ElGhandour's your guy. He may be hard to understand the first few weeks, but you'll eventually get the hang of him. Take ElGhandour, NOT Somoyaji if you can! "You follow me, guys?"

Like previously mentioned, it takes awhile to get used to his accent, but i eventually got it, and i think that was the hardest part of the quarter. to me, he presented everything well with good examples. very fair on hw, and basically was more worried that you tried every problem rather than doing them all right. his quizes werent too bad, and really similar to hw problems. his midterms were a bit more challenging, but afterwards i often noticed i made dumb mistakes and should have done better. at the end of the quarter, he had an amazing "curve" with the grades. i had a B in the class (probably around an 82-83), but ended up with a 98%. basically, he dropped some of your lowest quizes and midterm grades, which is awesome since you might know the subject and do well, but do shitty on one test and ruin your entire grade. Overall, i highly recommend elghoundor and am gonna take him again in the fall for CE 207.

El-Ghandour is a great teacher. The first day of class i sat in the back but after struggling to understand a word that he was saying i moved to the front. After the first week or so you could understand what he was saying. There was no final this quarter, and homework could be copied straight out of the solutions manual. I dont suggest that you copy them but the solutions manual seemed to do a good job exlaining concept that you might have missed or misunderstood during lecture. He does have a huge curve that help probably 50% of the class to pass. I had an uncurved 89% and ended up with a 100% in the class. Needless to say, do all you homework on time and get B's on the test and you should have no problem getting an A in his class.

Wow. I spent most of the quarter focusing on other classes (such as dynamics) and somehow I came out with an A- from El-Ghandour. El-Ghandour is a really nice guy and cares about his students. He has an accent, but sit at the front of the class and you'll find him easier to understand. His lectures can be somewhat disorganized but they are pretty good. The book isn't that great and the problems can be frustrating, but Ghandour will point you to the right direction. I never had time to go to office hours but I hear he's really good there too. Make sure you don't copy the solutions he gives out, otherwise you're screwing yourself for the common final. Bottom line: a good professor and I'd take him again.

El-Ghandour was one of the most helpful teachers I've had a Cal Poly so far. He is willing to help students any time he is not teaching. Once he helped me and another student on the Sunday before the final, that's how dedicated he is. He's accent is a bit hard to get a first and sometimes he goes off on tangents, but he always manages to get the point across. He gives lots of practical applications and tries to apply CE204 to every major. He's a really great professor. Oh and he helps students immensely with a huge curve at the end.

Professor Ghandour is a great teacher. He is hard to understand at first because of his accent but he truly does care about the success of his students. He is very helpful in his office hours and goes out of his way to help you. The class is 2 midterms 25% , 5 quizes 25%, 10% HW, and 40% the final. Watch out for the common final. yes, his accent is very thick. took me awhile to understand him, and i usually dont have trouble. a guide to your quarter... sadenta = delta diangusmoldulus = youngs modulus HES A CRAZY GOOD TEACHER. the guy goes WAY out of his way to help you learn. several times he would be up till 1 for the students in my class then teach a class at 7am and continue teaching straight through till 6pm. THE SECRET TO THE MIDTERMS: know the examples he shows you on the board as being on a previous common final. know them well. he'll modify them and make them a little harder, some of them close to impossible in my opinion. THE SECRET TO THE QUIZZES: randomly chosen homework questions, so do the homework. he grades about average but, if your grade on the nearly impossible common final is better than your current grade in the class he bumps you up. thats what saved me. i got a high b on the common final and so i got a b in the class that i wouldve failed (or gotten a mid c). he does everything he can to help your grade, he dropped two of the five quizzes and 1 of the two midterms. didnt help me much because i was pretty consistent in my scores. take him, end of story.

I think Dr. Ghandour is a good teacher. He makes it very clear that CE204 is difficult for most students and will require a lot of time. He also, focuses on the important subjects. Elghandour is a very nice guy, no doubt about it. His accent will take you a few days to figure out, but once you get over that, he isn't difficult to understand. Although it did take me five weeks to figure out that we was saying "textbook" instead of "thickest book". Anyways, his lectures are pretty good, except he seems to cover the same materials numerous times in different ways, a little confusing. The homework in this class is grueling, it takes so much time to complete so start it early. The quizzes are adequate, as are the midterms. The final however was unexpected. Half the problems were statics and had nothing to do with CE204. Also, they will fail to give you necessary conversions and constants, so memorize everything. Other than that, good luck. Don't let his accent scare you, just give it a couple days to sink in.

Dr. E may come off as a very difficult professor because of his accent, and the material of the class can be dense. Lecturers are sometimes boring because of this. However, Dr. E is a great professor. He truly recognizes that student's have a difficult time with this subject and he wants you to succeed. He also has a good sense of humor, and is very personable. You must put in the work for this class by doing hw, but as soon as you dont understand something the best thing to do is go into his office hours and ask for help! He is not intimidating at all, and is extremely encouraging. Midterms(2) are relatively difficult, but the second one is basically a practice final(completely cumulative and graded the same way). He also does study sessions before the final for a total of 8 hours, which without I would have failed this class. Put in the time, ask him questions, go to his office hours and study sessions, and this class will be easy. I went into the final with a 63 on the 1st test and an 18 on the 2nd. Once you get used to his accent (which took me half way through the quarter) he's actually a pretty solid teacher in comparison to some others Ive had. He lets you do a fat extra credit project at the end of the quarter that raised most peoples grades from C- to B+ or B- to A in my case. Before you take the guy you should realize that most people hate him and you probably will too. But at I also felt like I learned something from him (or maybe it was from spending 5hrs/week doing the f'n 10+ really long hw probs he assigned). Elghandour is a terrible professor. The guy can't speak descent English. CE-205 is hard enough without the accent. Also Elghandor can't write on the chalkboard. It is impossible to read his handwriting. Plus he has this annoying habit of always saying "you got it guys" with his terrible English. The only good thing is that he knows he's a terrible professor and allows you to do extra credit that can raise your grade a grade level and a half. The way he runs his class is absolutely crazy. One good thing about him is that he can teach in his office hours, which is the only place I actually learned anything. Trust me avoid this man at all cost.

Avoid this guy like the plague. He has a thick accent which takes some getting used to. Once you can start understanding him you start to realize that he isn't even that great of a teacher. He assigned TONS of homework for a 2 unit class. On average 10-15 problems per week! He usually goes over a few during class however, but I would find more often that not that he wouldn't even work out the examples correctly or he would make them way more complicated than they should have been. His tests are all very difficult and most people would average 35-50% on them. During the last class of the quarter he posted a grade sheet and about 85% of the class had D's. We did however turn in "extra credit" projects which bumped most people up to the B range.

He is the worst professor I have ever had at Cal Poly. He used to teach classes for the ME department, but rumors have it that he isn't allowed to teach any classes in the ME department because he is so horrible. He is unorganized and writes very sloppy on the board. You can't understand half of what he says and after he says something he always says " You got Guys?" We had 4 quizes, 2 midterms, and a final. He offers extra credit assignments for up to 5% extra credit. Our quizes regurally covered material which we had not gotten to yet. He expects you to know alot of information from CE 204, but it is hard since all professors don't cover the same information ( a big problem the CE department needs to deal with). On our first midterm he gave us one problem that was like 10 parts long, but the stresses in the problem were not possible based on the given strains, so no matter how you did the problem you would screw up. He blew off that this was a big error until the whole class complained, then he gave a us a take home midterm to replace it. The replacement midterm was purposely extremely difficult so that no onw would do it. We didn't get the repalcement midterm back till the last week of class. The second midterm was extremely easy since everyone had bombed the first one. I would definitely recommend taking someone else, but if you must take him pay attention to what he tells you before midterms and finals. He often hints at problems from the text that he will put on the test.

Two words: SATURDAY FINAL!! This jerk gave us a Saturday final because he was too lazy to give it to all his sections separately. I only took him for the lab section (one lousy unit) and he bombarded us with homework and quizzes. His quiz problems come directly from the homework, but do you really want to spend 2-3 hours per week on lab homework? The actual lab was easy and the write ups only took about an hour each but the quizzes (every other class) are what make this class bad (no formula sheets allowed). Not to mention his lectures suck and his accent is difficult to understand. This guy is terrible - if you read this and still decide to take him you're an idiot.

The guy above me is absolutely right. Elghandour is a terrible teacher. He makes no sense and he gives a crap load of homework--for a LAB class! It's beyond me how a teacher can actually expect his students to do homework, take quizes and finish lab reports for a class worth one stinking unit. If you have a choice DON'T TAKE ELGHANDOUR.

Well, there's not much you can do to avoid Elghandour since he teaches all but one of the CE206 classes. He gives you homework weekly (which takes a long time to do) and there are quizzes every week, all for a one unit class!! He puts questions on the quizzes and the final that are meant to be tricky and tend to mislead you to a wrong answer. Also, the he grades really hard on the lab reports. He says that the lab equipment is really old and it doesn't really work, but he still expects you to have good results. Basically, this guy just give WAY too much work for a one unit class. So if you can try to take CE 206 from someone else.

He is great in his office hours but is very difficult to follow during lecture unless you already know what he's talking about. I was frustrated with the amount of time I had to put into a one unit class. The labs are quick, the write ups are annoying and studying for the quizzes are a pain since most of this stuff I have already forgotten (my bad). His grader is also very harsh, no partial credit. You either get it or you don't. My recomendation for students taking him is to definetly go to the office hours with any questions, he'll really help you there. And don't be afraid to ask again if you didn't understand him the first time.

elghandour is a pretty awesome teacher for lab. he explains everything quite clearly (if you can understand what he is saying). i dont think its that his english is hard to follow but he is just very soft spoken so if you sit in the front of the class it shouldn't be too bad. graded everything quite fairly and had a decent curve. gave us the option to have a final or not at the end of the quarter. would definately recommend his for lab.

This guy is tricky! He makes the lab easy; you'll be done in 2 hours max every week. However, he throws in a quiz every few weeks that will totally throw you off. One of his quizzes had "0" for every answer. he sat at his desk and chuckled to himself as we all struggled to find answers to mind trap. My group did awesome on all the labs, but I did bad on the quizzes so my grade sucked. Luckily he throws in a good curve at the end.

Wow what to say about El Ghandour. Basically don't expect to understand a word that he says. Like the other CE 206 labs all the lab reports are group lab reports. Luckily he grades those labs very easy (pretty much everyone gets A's on all of them unless you just don't turn it in). However, he makes up for this with his quizzes. He gives 3 quizzes and a lab final. For each of the quizzes he posts the questions ahead of time on polycat and you can download the questions and then he picks one or two of the questions to be your quiz. In theory this seems incredibly easy. However his questions are usually very complicated and on material that he nevers goes over in class. Luckily, if you have the time to go to his office hour he will tell you how to work out every problem step by step. You would think doing this would gurantee you a good grade on the quizzes as you know the problem and the answer. However, El Ghandour is one of the worst on partial credit so you can do all the problem right but make a very very small mistake and end up with a 7/10. Other than that the class is very easy. I recommend making one group member write a report each time so that way you don't have to spend very much time doing time consuming lab write ups. Each class lasted about an hour at the most. Overall I would say El Ghandour is nothing special, but he is not the worst you could have.

Professor Elghandour was a great lab instructor. He is a very patient and understanding professor. He presents the material very well and he is very helpful during the labs. Positively the best lab instructor I've ever had. If he's teaching a lab section for your class, you should really fight to get in. He explains the lab really well, helps you out, and simplifies things a lot. I would like to take a class from him again. Pretty easy grader and he doesn't really care about everything being exact and perfect like some other lab instructors. The questions on the final came directly from the practice problem he posted online for each labs done during the quarter and we were able to use our lab manuals. His practice problem selected from Mechanics of materials book CE-204 and CE-205. I do not agree for all student said about him!

You should take this professor for 206 for on simple reason: in week ten, when all the other 206 professors are giving finals, he lets you skip class because there are no more labs. With regards to his teaching, he tells you the whole lab, including the results you should get, before you start, so the labs are pretty much pointless. it takes a while to figure out how he grades his labs, so dont expect to get all the points until the fourth or fifth lab. He does give a few quizzes, which are not too hard. Also all the quiz questions are straight from worksheets that he gives you before the quiz.

This professor wasn't that bad. He gave quizes that were exactly the same as the handout that you downloaded. If you bothered to do the handout(which i rarely did because it was all CE 204 review) you would ace every quiz. He would also spend time before each lab to tell you how to do it and what your results should be around. I can't hate him for the next part because a grader supposdly did it, but he graded the lab write ups way too hard. Our group finally figured out how to get perfects on the lab write ups but it took about 3 to 4 hours to write. The lab itself took only 15 mins to do. It just doesn't add up. Overall, this class was alright and I would recommend taking him.

El-Ghandour is a good teacher. The class consisted of 3 midterms, 6 quizzes, about 8 homework assignments, and extra credit (worth 5% of your total grade); NO FINAL!. He seems to want to change the structure of this course for the following lectures due to the amount of grading he had this past quarter, so who knows how he will change it. The first half of the class is almost identical to 204 stuff, so review it if its been a while since you have taken 204. he dropped one midterm and the average grade was something like an 87 percent. His lectures seemed to drag on a little but he sets up almost all of the homework problems. His tests were all homework problems so there were no surprises. This is my second quarter with El-Ghandour and I would recommend taking him for any course, he trully cares about teaching and does his best to help you out during office hours.

Elghandour is a champ. He busts his ass to help his students. He's always in his office if not teaching class. Examining the material itself in CE-207, this was an easy class. Yeah, I got a B, but honestly did very little studying compared to any other support class. The majority of the material is review from CE-204, so anyone that complains he didn't cover the material before tests can go to hell. The material is review, if you don't know it or forgot it, thats your problem. Yeah, he'd get upset sometimes in class and tell kids he'd give em a zero on the exam (which I thought was funny as hell), but thats because half the class can't even draw moment diagrams, which you should have mastered in 204. He covers the material clearly, gives quizzes and exams exactly like examples in class, no surprises or tricky stuff, its all straight forward. You people that came to class whining every day about lord knows what, grow the F~^& up and stop wasting everyone elses time.

I had EE for CE 204 and he wasn't that bad, pretty damn easy. So I decided to take him again for CE 207. Every lecture was the same, we had no idea what he was doing. He would try to to show us an example problem, but in the middle of the problem he would always change it around so everyone was lost. I pretty much had to teach myself the material, which isn't that difficult. The quizes were always on the following week's material and his grading was harsh. I completely lost faith when he drew a simple moment-area diagram wrong. His curve was also bogus. He ended up dropping one quiz and midterm. This pretty much only helped the people who had no idea what the hell was going on and didn't help the people that actually tried and studied. The curve was not fair since it raised the people who royally screwed up on the the midterm. All I can say, don't take him if you want to learn the material. Try to take Kasper, even though he is difficult.

I had Professor Elghandour for 204 and liked him so much i took him for 207. He is one of the most helpful instructors I've ever had. He is truly in his profession for the students, and it shows. He would come early and stay late for his scheduled office hours to help the countless students (like me) who were baffled by the course content until we reached some sort of understanding of the material. He teaches a lot by examples, which is how I learn best. Sometimes he was confusing in his lecture, but he's very approachable and open to questions. I would totally reccommend him. And if you take Elghandour, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! Especially if you don't understand the homework. Often his quizzes were problems taken from the hw or very similar to the hw.

Ok Elghandour is a nice guy and from what my friends have told me I believe he is a good CE 204 instructor. Now for CE 207 I feel he could use some improvment. I have Eric Kasper for 204 and paid attention did problems and learned the material. This quater in 207 I basically ended up reading the book before I went to class and getting nothing more from going to class than the reasurance that I knew the material better than the majority of the class. If you take CE 207 with Elghandour get in a study group and READ THE BOOK (it is actually not half bad). Good luck and watch his work in class sometimes the class will lead him down the wrong path and he will not catch it. (READ the review a couple down about Moment Diagrams!!!!)

He is willing to stay as long as possible to help all students understand the concepts, so take advantage of this opportunity. He is one of the most helpful instructors at Cal Poly, and wants every student to succeed. If you understand the hw, you should have no problems on the midterms or quizzes. The final was challenging as it's not written by him, but like with any other class, study hard, and you should do well in the course.

Prof. Elghandour is dedicated to providing his students with a solid understanding of Strength of Materials. I highly recommend him for both 204 and 207 because of his extensive knowledge in their instructions and applications. This quarter we did homework/quizzes online which was troublesome at first, but then became a valuable studying resource (once you got used to it). His midterms were reasonable and helped prepare you for the multiple choice final. I still don\'t understand why the CE department continues to use the multiple choice, credit/no credit grading system, but whatever. Elghandour was very helpful and amiable in his office hours, so much so that he stays too long and is often late to his next class! Great guy.

First, let me start off by saying this review may be biased since I took this course at a community college but it didn't transfer over. Anyway, EE is a genuinely nice guy who will go out of his way to help you out in office hours to make sure you get the material, so don't hesitate to ask him for help. However, his lecture style was pretty decent. He would go over numerous example problems from the homework step by step, but it was at times very difficult to listen to him due to his accent/talking too fast. He gave us 5 midterms, and dropped 1. In my opinion, the midterms weren't too hard, although he throw an occasional trick question that he didn't cover too well in lecture. Finally, he DOES give a ton of homework, but he makes it worth a lot of points to help boost your grade. The guy isn't THAT bad of a teacher. At the end, he gave us the opportunity to earn 2-3% extra credit homework to boost our grade even more. He wants you to succeed, it's just that the CE 207 itself isn't an easy subject, especially if you haven't mastered material from CE 204.

Elghandour assigns an unreasonable amount of homework, moves through problems too quickly, and never really explains any equations or anything, he just outlines like 10+ problems on slides too quickly every lecture. He has five midterms were the average is around 30-40% but he drops two so getting points basically comes down to who can bs the most partial credit every week. The common final didn't touch on any topics emphasized in his lectures or midterms and I felt like having Elghandour put me at a real disadvantage when speaking to people who had other professors. Basically if there's a common final you're screwed. Worst teacher I had so far at Poly.

Fear not, though, because he will probably drop your worst grades in both categories. They are very straight forward, and if you know what you're doing they aren't bad. In short, if you work as hard as he expects, he totally makes it worth it in the end. I had heard that his students are the best prepared for the dreaded common final, and I think that is true. Dr. EE was definitely one of the better professors I've had at Cal Poly. You definitely hear the "Hey guys!" Or something like it at least once per lecture. I didn't find it annoying, but I can see how somebody could. I thought his grading was more than fair. For homework, if you showed some work and checked the boxes on the cover sheet he makes you print out and staple to the front, you got full credit for that homework assignment. If you felt like exploiting that, you could, but he does assign relevant homework for the quizes, midterms and final. I felt extremely confident walking into the final and nothing in it surprised me. If you can concentrate on new material and on understanding what the teacher is saying at the same time then do it. He was very clear in his lectures. He was very helpful whenever you approached him, and his test and quizes were almost always straight from the homework. If you do the homework, you get credit. After homework is due he puts the anwsers on the web, which makes it easy to study. I really turned a 180 on what I think about this guy. If you're up for the task I would think that this is the guy for you. He also give extra credit which can be up to 10% of your grade. That's right 10%

Quite possibly one of the worst teachers I have ever had at Cal Poly... or ever for that matter. I do not want to seem at all discriminatory, but I think it is important for a professor to have a working knowledge of the English language to teach. Elghandour has anything but that

EE was one of the nicest teacher's I've had at Poly. He wasn't very good at explaining things in the classroom, but would go out of his way to help in office hours, or by organizing review sessions, even though he was sick with 102 degree fever. He really does care about the students, and tries helping them succeed by adding fun extra credit projects to the class. Although, I first wasn't sure if I liked him, I think that he always went out of his way to try and help out any student. The way to pass his class is finding the tricks....most of the time, quizzes come straight from the homework.

This guy is absolutely terrible. I had him for CE251, the MATLAB course, which could be a good course, as MATLAB is a pretty powerful tool for engineers. However, this guy doesn't know much about the subject he is teaching. He knows the basics of MATLAB, but he was unable to answer ANY of my questions regarding more complex functions. It is frustrating when you have to spend an hour looking online for an answer to a question your professor should know. He also emphasizes procedures that any logical person would dismiss, such as finding a regression line for an EQUATION WE ARE GIVEN! The class is pretty easy, but everything in it takes so long to do because he assigns homework and quizzes on material that he never covers. It is also very tedious as it is. He also has a terrible accent and his voice is extremely annoying. Listening to him for 1 1/2 hours makes you want to kill yourself. He is also completely theory based. None of his knowledge has any practical applications. He won't be able to correctly answer anything based on real life structural scenarios. He always uses the theoretical to complicate the shit out of a process when there is already a predefined way of doing it that is much easier and just as effective. Do not take this guy!

Get ready to teach yourself the whole course fortunately the material isn't too hard if you put in the time. 4 quizzes, 5 hw assignments and one midterm. Just countless iterations of pointless equations that our calculators do all of this for us these days so most of this class is pointless to learn. you get an equation sheet for tests and quizzes so just write down the equations from every chapter and you'll be fine. Overall, he is up there with the worst teachers i have had at Cal Poly. Whoever said he was decent for this class we must have been in different classes because I did not learn a single thing from him.

Elghandour is a very nice guy, no doubt about it. His accent will take you a few days to figure out, but once you get over that, he isn't difficult to understand. Anyways, his lectures are pretty good, The homework in this class is grueling, it takes so much time to complete so start it early. The quizzes are adequate, as are the midterms. The final however was unexpected. Gooooooo to him if you have a problem to understand and he will spend a lot of time to help you.

Dr. Elghandour is a great structure teacher and really cares about his students. The only problem to the instructor, we have students taking the class they never had STATICS get the professor not do a lot of engineering application. His class teaches a lot of Math materials and he assign a lot of HW, quizzes, midterms and final test for the MATLAB lab different than the lecture. I definitely recommend this professor, especially for Engineering and graduate students because he teach you to learn how to design engineering projects, Take him and be ready for a lot of work.

I took this guy for CE 251 and an online dynamics course over the summer through cuesta. During the online course I had to communicate with him by email quite a bit. Something I noticed about some of the positive reviews on him is that they contain the same awkward wording and butchered syntax as his emails. Now I am not suggesting that every positive review was written by him, I know people who took this guy for 207 and liked him, but for 251, he was abysmal. For lecture he just copied example problems out of the “tickest book”, right down to the decimal place. He provided no instruction for lab whatsoever, all he did was handout photocopies from another textbook. As for him knowing the material , there were at least four times when he showed us something that was verifiably wrong , in one case he didn’t even know how to use a formula he wrote on the board (it was an error estimate for Simpsons rule, in numerical integration). He is a super nice guy and to be fair, when I took him it was his first time teaching this class, but that doesn’t change the fact that he did a terrible job. One piece of advice if you’re taking this class: learn how to use your graphing calculator, everything you do in this class can be done automatically with a TI-83. You still have to show your work, but it’s good to check.

I don't enjoy writing this, because he's a genuinely nice guy. He'd be a nice uncle or something. That being said, he can't teach. He absolutely can't. Or doesn't care, or something. I am not trying to toot my own horn when I say, with maybe 2 hours of prep before each class, I could do a much better job teaching than him. The good news is the material is really easy. Honestly though, every time I got up for the 8-9:30AM class, by the time I wished I had slept through it, because it was a complete waste of time. Lets get down to specifics. He always shows up about 9 minutes late, except on test days. Generally, class consists of a couple minutes of theory which he explains terribly, but it doesn't matter, it's not important. For maybe an average of 20 minutes of an 80 minute class, he'll talk about what he deems important for an engineer to know, but doesn't relate to the class at all. The rest of the class is spent on examples, straight out of the "thickest" book. Often they are homework problems, so you probably should copy them down. He doesn't explain how to do it, and generally only writes the answer on the board. Which sometimes is wrong. There are long periods in class where nothing is really going on. You are supposed to be working on an example problem, but he hasn't explained how to do it. The lab is probably worse. Although we were in a classroom equipped with a projector, he never once actually projected Matlab. The point of the lab was to learn Matlab. He sometimes wrote code on the blackboard, but more often then not there were minor errors, which he could not find, because he didn't actually put it in Matlab. He never really excuses the class, people just start to leave, because there is nothing to do. Now I know this is starting to sound scary. Its not scary though, its just a waste. Its not really a problem that he doesn't teach. First off, this class is pointless and the information you learn from it is not needed unless you are a computer science major, which you aren't. Basically, this class teaches you how to estimate things which a calculator can easily find the exact value for in less then a second. Literally, that is 98% of the class. Also, the pointless material is extremely easy. Homework is tedious, but extremely simple. Although I wouldn't call the book good, it has fairly good examples which you can copy, substituting in the values for the homework problems. Show up the day before the midterm and the final. He will tell you exactly whats going to be on the tests. The test never has tricks, and has exactly what he says will be on it. I thought this would be hard class, it was a joke. A complete waste, but an easy waste. The material could be learned in about 10 hours, instead of 30, if taught effectively. I hear Elghandour isnt teaching 251 next quarter, so this all may be pointless.

Professor Elghandour is a very nice guy. He was a really great teacher who cares about his students and wants everyone to learn the material and get excited about Numerical Analysis... a fair amount of busy work, but overall, relevant to the course and useful for the tests. Just go to class! Class was so early I didn't go a few times and my grade definitely reflected that. Usually the classes were interesting enough. Second time taking his class and he made the class so easy this quarter. The tests can be difficult but as long as you study you should be fine. Can sometimes not present the material so clearly but he is so helpful if you go to his office hours. He will help anyone who needs them; he even offered to call me so he could explain the material more clearly if I needed. Overall the class was interesting and he was a good professor.

He is truly in his profession for the students, and it shows. He would come early and stay late for his scheduled office hours to help the countless students (like me and other students) who were baffled by the course content until we reached some sort of understanding of the material. He teaches a lot by examples, which is how I learn best. I would totally recommend him. And if you take Elghandour, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! Especially if you don\'t understand the homework. Often his quizzes were problems taken from the hw or very similar to the hw.

The class itself is a very tough class and it can be hard to fully understand all the covered material in the lectures but Dr. EE does his best to get through everything and make sure everyone understands. He is extremely helpful in office hours. If you are having trouble he is very willing to help you out in his office one on one. The tests were hard but it wasn\\\'t anything we hadn\\\'t seen before, just more difficult problems from Static, Strength of Materials, than we were used to. CE 251 is divided into two different parts: a lecture about numerical analysis, and a lab about MATLAB programming. I felt the lecture material was not presented too clearly, but it is honestly very easy material if you read the book. In fact, that\'s the only way you learn to solve homework/test problems, by looking at the book\'s examples and emulating the process it uses. Luckily there is not much variation in the type of questions asked on hw/quizzes/midterm. The lab portion was also a bit confusing. I only had prior knowledge of javascript, but any programming experience will be a huge help. I did notice a lot of those who hadn\'t ever programmed before struggled with the concepts and ended up discussing the assignments with friends/those nearby. The quizzes are unpredictable- he will ask to do a task you have never encountered before in the program, and you will have to look at the help guide or online to figure it out, which may or may not be successful. Overall though, more than generous with partial credit on midterms and final (his grader for labs and quizzes was kinda stingy though), but with effort and a little willingness to learn material on your own, it should be alright.

Ok, The lecture and lab are totally unrelated. The lecture is really easy stuff you can teach yourself better in a couple hours than he can teach all quarter. The lab is just learning how to use MatLab.... on your own. He provides a powerpoint with various commands listed then just tells you to use the \"help\" button to figure out how to use the commands. He grades difficultly throughout the quarter then provides a bit of a boost at the end by giving extra credit assignments to those who wish to pass the class. If you take this class.....Good Luck.

Elghandour is a really nice professor, but he isn't very great at teaching the material. Lecture was very pointless and all the methods in class can be used on your calculator. Lab was the huge portion of the course and is an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the MATLAB commands. However, every time Elghandour writes a script file on the board, the code is usually full of errors, considering that he didn't input the code into MATLAB. The homework is very straightforward and the problems are pretty much the same as the example problems in the book. Quizzes, the midterm, and the final were not too difficult. You just had to be willing to get up early in the morning, not fall asleep through lecture, and write down what will be on the quizzes/midterm. Overall, Elghandour is an average professor. I learned the material much better on my own than going to lecture. P.S. If you do take Elghandour, be ready to hear a wave of "Did you get that one, guys?" Dr. Elghandour\'s lectures are always very fast paced, but that is because this class has a lot of material to cover, all math materials and strength mechanics materials. There is weekly MATLAB homework and quizzes or midterm and lecture homework and then a midterm and a final. The midterm and final were just more slightly more difficult than the homework, but there was always one much more challenging problem. Dr. EE is very helpful during office hours. Dr. Elghandour was not the worst professor I have ever had. He was very helpful during office hours and was there when you needed any help. He tends not to respond to emails only because he expects us to write our questions on the forums on PolyLearn. There is a big curve in the class. Even if you do poorly on the midterm and quizzes, you can still get a good grade in the class. He bases your grade based on how everyone else did in the class. The class was very independent. He lectured only for 15 minutes and then let us do the in class activities and homework. It was a lot of work for a 2 unit class, but the work wasn't hard. The quizzes, midterm, and final were really hard though. Even though they were all open book/open note, they did not seem to reflect the tests. His multiple choices may have a, b, c, d, e, and f. Not only that, you may have to write a description of why the answer is f. I didn't know what to expect on the quizzes, midterm, and final. I stopped reading the book carefully after seeing the first quiz. You mostly have to teach yourself in this class. Due to the limited lectures, a lot of students always felt lost about how to do certain activities. I suggest finding a friend who is good at programming. The second half of the quarter is all programming/VBA and it's way harder than the excel portion (first half).

EE is a great professor. He conveys the material decently and makes himself available to his students. He wants to see all of his students succeed and will put in numerous hours to do so. His quizzes are a bit too extreme, they relate to such specific information it makes it hard to study for them. Definitely helps if you already know about computer programming. The project was really cool and after taking this class I want to program everything to make my life easier. He does have an accent but its not that bad, you can get used to it. Programming takes lots of practice, understanding the way the logic works is helpful if you can verify the answers by hand.

I was frustrated with the amount of time I had to put into a one unit class. And don\'t be afraid to ask again if you didn\'t understand. Dr. Elghandour assigns a lot of homework! You are rewarded for completing it though, since the test questions are taken directly from the homework.

This guy is a great lecturer for the engineering students. He is the man you can ask him question related to a different topic in engineer. He is willing to help all students at any time.

Good teacher. Made the class interesting special with composite materials information he added to his lab. Take him and you will learn the real world problems.

Dr. Elghandor is not just a great teacher, but an overall great person. If he could stay all day to help you understand something, he would. He doesn\\\'t care about cramming a tons of information in your head, but by giving you useful knowledge through the Learn By Doing Experimental Stress Analysis and adding part of composite fabrication and testing to our lab Cal Poly says it upholds, but let\\\'s face it, it rarely does. I wish all my teachers were like Dr. Elghandor just because I would feel like I learned something I can use in my future. Such a nice guy. You won\\\'t be disappointed.

Dr.Ghandour is a very good teacher. He expects a very detailed lab report every week, but he KNOWS what he talks about in class. He will let you do a lot of hand-on, that what cal poly for take his lab any time. I would recommend Dr. Ghandorr to any student that wants to learn something. Go to lecture everyday and don't be afraid to ask questions, that's what he is there for.

Dr. EE is great! I liked going to class everyday. He's goofy and definitely makes the material more understandable. Definitely take any lab with him if you need to learn by doing.
