I wanted to get this up before people sign up for classes, but I waited out the class. I had Victor his first quarter teaching here. He is right out of industry and I don't think he knows what the word education means. He has a heavy spanish accent. Sometimes, I would feel bad for him, but near the end of the quarter I got the feeling he was just lazy. I actually went to class, but there was no need, he would just repeat himself and stay away from difficult stuff. He would emphasize that it was a conceptual course, but it would have been nice to know more about steels. I think a monkey could pass this class, but I put in a few hours before the test and got an A.

Victor is a really nice guy and I know he really wants us to succeed. But he honestly doesn't know what he's doing. He teaches the material very poorly and then tells us not to stress about the midterms or even the class as a whole but then when the midterms come around he throws 100 million curveballs at us. He's a nice guy, just not a good teacher.

I agree with both evaluations above. I cut him some slack because he is a new teacher here. But he is not good at all. I can't understand half of what he's saying because of his accent. He just reads his powerpoints to us. I bought the book and I used it at the beginning, but later i realized that the book has way too much information for the class. I just went over his powerpoints and did the problems and I was fine.

I cannot understand this professor because of his accent. The book was no help either because it gives way too much information needed for the class. He goes off on a tangent and constantly apologizes or asks the students whether "he is doing well." His e-mails suck grammatically but gets the point across.

Victor is a new professor who just came out of industry and it really shows. He has no idea how to teach a class let alone the large class sizes that tend to happen for mate 210. His accent makes it nearly impossible to understand him, especially when he mumbles. He also required the newest edition of the text book which was $200 which also provided way too much information for an intro class. His slides constantly had grammatical and material errors and when he presented them in class he would often breeze over the important examples leaving you to learn the material on your own. Do not take this professor if there is any other option

This class was very difficult with Granados and I feel with any other teacher I might have been more successful. He is new this year but he has a problem conveying the material in class which made it pointless to attend class anymore. At the end of the quarter it was nice that he drops your lowest midterm which is good because on both midterms I found many errors with his grading and he was inconsistant between grading each one. If you do end up in his class try to get as many bonus points as you possibly can, the will do wonders for your grade at the end

I usually wait to get my grades before evaluating professors, but this one could not wait. Victor is the worst professor I've ever had. He is direct out of industry and knows little about teaching. It seems to me that he is also an ineffective engineer since he seems to have poor communication skills. I can give him some slack because English is clearly his second language but it is truly hindering. The class structure was completely turned on its head constantly. The calendar on the syllabus was basically irrelevant by the second day. Homework is a disproportionately high portion of the grade so don't skimp. The lectures consist of him mumbling into the microphone while showing confusing and disorganized slides. I spent most of the quarter confused as to what homework problems to do and when they were collected. The tests were weird. It was often hard to understand what he was asking for. After each of the midterms, he would send out a confusing email about all of these complicated changes he was making to the grading rubric so I'm not sure what my grade will be. In short avoid this professor at all costs. If he is the only option for a particular quarter wait until next time. I enrolled in this class with Professor Harding and he was replaced at the last minute with Victor, so I feel that I was cheated out of a few grade points simply because of the bad professor. I hope that Cal Poly doesn't allow him to teach any more classes on campus. Let him teach at Cuesta.

No, Victor is not the best teacher for 210 or any other class for that matter, but he doesn't deserve to be ripped on so much. Granados replaced Harding in the last week or so before classes began, so many people seem to be upset from that. His English isn't that great and he doesn't speak very clearly in a large lecture hall so going to class is not all that necessary. I learned everything i got out of that class from the slides, online and the lab. I did the ridiculously easy homework, went to class the majority of the time and studied a couple hours before each midterm, and a little more for the final and got an A-. The class is easy to get a good grade in, if you put in effort equivalent to a ge class, but you wont be learning as much as you might with other professors. I would make a real effort to try and take the 215 lab in the same quarter, because thats where the real learning (and fun) comes from.

He is so unorganized plus he never made it clear what he expected from us. Kept on changing the syllabus and grading, he is kind of a jerk and short fuse when it comes to being patient and answering test questions. I really hope he goes back to the industry because that will give him and us peace!

Yes, Victor rambles and has an accent. But he is a very nice man. I made very little effort in this class and still got a D. I probably should have got an F.

Nice guy. Bad lecturer. Fair tests. Fair grader. Insanely easy class. No effort required. Not as bad as everyone says it is.

I really hope they kick him out of the MATE department, this is coming from a MATE student. I reminded this s.o.b three times to update my corrected midterm score(he didn't add the points right) and he still didn't do it. Lectures are dry, not worth even the tiny bit to wake up at 7:30 for him.

Take someone else if you can

Wow. I'm super surprised Granados has such a bad rating on here. I realize that it's a different issue to evaluate him as a lecturer, but I thought he was awesome! He is incredibly sweet and very very helpful. I always stayed in this lab for the full three hours, but Victor helped my group out whenever he could. If you put in effort and act respectfully, Victor will give that respect back to you. He seems to be a very patient guy even with the students who always argued with him. He gave us A's on every lab! He gives tons of feedback, too. His accent is hard to understand sometimes, but it's nothing to get angry about because he will repeat anything if you ask him.

When I first signed up for this class, all the classes listed STAFF. Later, it showed that Victor Granados is teaching most of the MATE 215 courses. I was about to drop out and take this course next quarter instead. I saw his .86 rating and freaked out. After taking this class, however, I felt glad that I did choose to stay in it after all. Victor may be impatient when it comes to answering questions (mostly if he feels as if you didn't read the lab before coming to class). In general though, he is extremely helpful and is nice to the students. He told the class that he would treat us the same way as if he we were his colleagues. The class was pretty chill. The only homework was to read the labs (which I usually did a few hours before the class). He allowed us to have open book group quizzes (which aren't that hard if you read the labs beforehand). We then focused on our labs for the whole 3 hours. He is always there if you need help. Sometimes, he may not be clear in his description but he will keep clarifying until you understand. He can be picky on grading the labs, but you are pretty much guaranteed at least a B in that class anyways. I thought I was certain that I was going to get a B in the class, but I somehow ended up with an A. I would recommend him for MATE 215.

MATE 215 is a pretty easy class. Victor makes his expectations very clear. The labs aren't horribly interesting, but it's a 1 unit support lab.

Victor is really helpful in lab and a really cool guy. He knows the material and he does everything he can to make sure the students understand it as well. His accent can be a little difficult to understand at times but besides that he is a really awesome professor.

Maybe its a different story in lecture..but in lab, he's an incredible professor. He cares a whole lot for his students and makes sure they understand the topics at a deep level. He runs around the lab for 3 hours helping groups, and taking time to really explain things. He's and awesome guy, treats you as an equal, and truly about his students. Take him for a lab section if you can

Granados is really excited about what he does. He always tried his best to help everyone out as much as possible. I think he did take a little too long to try and teach to each individual group which sucked up a lot of time (and didn't always make much sense). Like I said though, he really cares and wants his students to learn. Also talks to you as a peer not an authority figure. He lets you correct the prelab quizzes after you finish the lab which really helps keep your grade up. Never had to study the lab before coming in. He'd probably be cool to get a beer with.

This was a very good Professor for this lab. He is much more interested in making sure you understand the material versus fighting for a grade. You can tell he really wants you to learn, and this is a really interesting and fun lab. Getting an A is easy if you put effort into the labs. There is no outside work. Overall, I would highly recommend this Professor for the MATE 215 lab.

Great for the MATE 215 lab. I felt like he really cared about his students. Each lab he would come over to your group and go through in depth what you were doing. Other lab instructors that I've had just said here's the lab manual, figure it out yourself. He would also always try to relate the material to how it applied specifically to each person's major in the group. I'd recommend quickly reading the lab manual before you come to class. I did probably about half the time and it made those labs so much quicker and easier.

Great guy, perfect instructor for this lab. Easy going but you'll learn a lot. He'll definitely tell you about how each lab applies to when he "worked in industry" throughout the quarter and this mannerism starts to become kinda funny, but it actually is very helpful and applicable information that other lab professors fail to tell students. He also tries to connect lab material with lecture. Take Victor for this MATE 215, he's awesome.

His accent isn't that bad, and he really cares about making sure his students do well. I'm surprised that his polyratings score is so low.

Victor is an amazing professor. I love that he gives you information that is relevant to the industry. He really cares about the professionals of the future and wants you to learn the concepts. He is also very helpful in office hours so make sure you stop by and see him if you have any questions.

I learned that if I were to take up hunting, I should shoot deer, not bears, because a bear will hunt me back if I successfully wound it. Fascinating! I didnt know that the key to production and operations management was so brutally simple!
