Mr. Demarest was an excellent teacher. He was very timely in returning tests and quizes. He was also very approachable and fair, and tells great stories.

Demarest is a CHILL guy seriously. There were times when he couldn't present the material clearly to the class to understand but c'mon its PRECALCULUS with ALGEBRA!!! we should know all this! anyways it is VERY easy to get an A in his class. He gives a simple quiz every friday on the material before the quiz after the previous quiz, so like 2-4 sections of a chapter. Then he grades HW too and there are 2 midterms and a final, which is cummulative so study study! I personally didnt find anything hard at all in this class so take him especially if you have taken precalc in HS this should be a SNAP!

ok i think demarest is a cool guy but not a cool teacher. yes he tells awesome stories and is goofy as fuck in class but he doesn't present the material well at all. the homework he assigns is difficult and he will explain the same problem 3 different ways and will leave out information he assumes you should know.

Mr. Demarest is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He moves slowly and presents the information very thoroughly. Office hours saved my life because he takes time to address any and all problems you have in multiple ways. Also, he's just a really relaxed and personable guy. Definitely pick this guy if you get the opportunity.

The teacher was overall a pretty cool guy. His lectures are unclear. He would not tell you what would be on the quizzes and would only give a quiz with around 2 questions. Terrible because if you miss one, you fail.

Great guy, explains things well, he could be a little confusing bc he is smart and gets ahead of himself and confuses the students, tests are a little tricky and hw were ok, study session helped me a lot, i had an A all quarter until the final, final was hard, dropped me down to a B, i think it made people fail, if you study a lot of the tests and make sure you understand how to do the problems, you'll be fine. he never tricks you, he always tries to help. there was a quiz every friday so you can never skip friday class, it sucked. I RECOMEND TAKING HIM

Demarest is soo much fun. I had really bad math teachers in high school, and he totally restored my faith in how cool math teachers really can be. He is completely straightforward, will accomodate you if you're having problems and want to ask questions or get him to extend his office hours... and most of his exam questions come from the quizes. Pay attention, do the homework, and let him know when you have a question... and you'll be just fine. And also to mention, he has an adorable laugh and makes you just wanna pinch his cheeks haha

Demarest is a very good choice if you are taking Math 118. His grade breakdown consists (if I remember correctly) of something like 10% homework, 15% quizzes, 45% exams, and 30% accumulative final. He does assign a lot of homework, but essentially this is the studying that you do for the class, so its not too bad. Additionally, his quizzes are pretty fair and often. His tests are all very fair as well, including the final. His notes are organized and helpful for the most part. Also, the day before each exam he has a review day which he'll answer any questions, etc. Oh, and he has some cool traveling stories. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Demarest for at least 118 (I know he teaches Calculus too).

This guy is pretty good. Spells out what's going to be on each quiz, and what you have to memorize. I had him MTRF and all the quizes were on thursday, and homework was due on thursday. So really if you knew what you were doing there was no reason to show up on friday. Although I did once, and got to hear a story for about 25 minutes about him getting his butt handed to him by a river in europe. All in all thought I'm glad I took him.

Mr. Demarest is an amazing professor. He presents the work clearly and he does use examples from the book the explain a concept. This is actually beneficial because he uses class (textbook) examples and also problems from the homework on his tests and quizzes. He doesn't like to curve grades but he's a fair grader. Demarest is an extremely generous grader and gives partial points to any part of your work that he can. If he sees that you're on the right track, he gives you points. There's no extra credit but our last midterm was difficult so he let people who received B's and lower to do corrections and regain half the amount of points that they lost. The final was 30% of our final grade which is a lot but it's not as bad as it sounds if you keep up during the quarter. This isn't a class that you can just sit back and relax. There is homework almost every day and sometimes there are a lot of problems. You actually have to try and going to Demarest during office hours is definitely a plus. Watch for related rates and optimization because he KNOWS that students have a hard time with those. Overall, he was a great Calculus I teacher and I definitely recommend him. :)

Demarest is sick. Quiz once a week (adds up to 30% of ur grade). Hw due on day of the quiz (5%). 2 midterms (15% each), final (35%). i didnt take calc in high school and i thought this class wasnt too bad. Demarest gives really good notes that are easy to follow. if u have a question, he'll stop and try to help u understand it. he cares about his students and provides a good amount of office hours. he doesnt curve, but he makes up for that by giving a crapload of partial credit on tests and quizzes. tests and quizzes are made up of problems based straight from the notes and hw. i got a B and a C (which was moved up to a B because he let us get up to half the points we missed back since the average was pretty low)on the midterms, and a B on the final. on the day of the final this one kid slept in and came to class w/ 10 minutes left and demarest ended up letting him take the final in his office after everyone was done. demarest is the man. take him if u can

Mr. Demarest is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He explains concepts very clearly. If someone asks a question, he takes the time to answer them and won't move on until he is sure they understand (so ask questions). His midterms were a little tough, but a few trips to his office hours solved any confusion I had. He grants test corrections at the end of the quarter so you can raise your midterm average. Overall he is a great teacher, really goofy, but great.

I took Demarest for 141, and it rocked my life! Not only is he an amazing teacher, but a really great guy who makes you think and even laugh! 2 Midterms, plus quizzes and homework every week, with a lot of homework, but it completely prepared you for the quizzes and exams. The quizzes and tests were all extremely fair! His notes are clear and concise, and he always takes questions about what you're doing in lecture. And just when you think another lecture will cause your brain to rupture, he comes in with story time about Kayaking in 3rd world countries! <333 him!

WOW! Professor Demarest is the worst possible math teacher in the entire universe. This guy looks like a damn hillbilly, and have you noticed his buck teeth? Well, I have. Oh, he also talks like one too. This guy does not even give you partial-credit on tests even though he claims he does. I went to office hours on a regular basis and knew the material well, but when it came to tests he would test you on the homework problems that NO ONE KNEW HOW TO DO. Bottom line, don't take this class. you will regret it, you will cry. He has no sympathy for you, and he doesn't give a shit about his students. All he cares about is surfing, and "catching the waves." Go figure.

Demarest is an awesome professor. He\'s a really cool guy and is really chill and friendly. He presents the material well, but if there\'s something that\'s unclear, he\'s totally willing to break it down and make sure that you understand it. I got a C in his class, but it\'s completely my fault; it has nothing to do with him being hard or unfair. He\'s straightforward, and from personal experience, is very fair in grading and understanding. I\'d definitely recommend him.

Great professor; He collects homework once a week which is helpful in getting you to do it. I got a B+ and an A on the two midterms, and ended up with an A- in the class. Weekly quizzes are never too difficult, if your studying. Class examples are incredibly relevant and WILL show up on quizzes and tests. Very enjoyable class for sure.

This is the hardest class I have ever taken.. ever. I studied so much and barely pulled off a C-. Demarest is not a good calc teacher. He was hard to understand, his tests were too hard (especially because you didn\'t get enough time to complete them) and his quizzes were difficult as well. It\'s a really hard class, just study a lot and hopefully you\'ll be able to pass.

I had him for both 118 and 161, he is seriously one of the best math teachers i have ever had. He makes things really clear in lecture, and I found that if you do the homework then the weekly quizzes are really easy and just free points, he drops your lowest quiz score. Math was already one of my strong points going into the class, but he made the subject more interesting and I actual like it. I didnt have to take 161, the 118 class fulfilled my major, but i saw he was teaching 161 and took it as an elective. I very very very highly recommend this teacher!

Demarest is one of the best teachers I have ever had, regardless of subject. He is very clear in lecture and always receptive to students' questions. He never appears impatient. I have never had another professor more willing to offer his time to help his students, and he's amazingly good at figuring out what, exactly, you're not understanding, even when you're not quite certain yourself. He offers additional study sessions beyond his office hours before exams, and is totally willing to set up appointments with you. If not for his patience and help I never would have passed this class. However, his classes are challenging. You have to go to lecture, and you have to do the homework. If you don't you will not do well.

Great Teacher!!! My best math teacher so far. He presents things really clearly and answers all questions. He\'s there to help you as much as possible and wants you to succeed. I did poorly in 161 because I didnt learn very much and I had an awful teacher. In 162, I learned a great deal and did very well in the class. TAKE HIM!

demarest is a cooool guy!! His class was pretty easy. I had already taken CALC in high school, so business calc was cake. but even if you have not taken CALC before i recommend him! he was soo nice and helpful, ALWAYS willing to help out in office hours. He has quizzes every week worth 10 points, which help your grade because they are usually pretty easy. 2 midterms and a final, which are not bad as well. Overall business calc is not a hard class, and demerast is a goofy but AWESOME guy!!

I've taken calculus before and hated it but he made the material easy to understand and I loved the class! I love demarest. He is very clear about what he expects and presents the material very clearly. I thought he was an excellent math teacher. I never had taken calc before so i was nervous going into the class, but i ended up doing just fine. There are weekly quiz's that aren't to difficult but help when studying for midterms. The tests were difficult, he doesn't give too much partial credit, but he is a fair guy. i decided to go to office hours. He was incredibly helpful and made sure that i knew what i was doing. By the end of the quarter there was a group of about 10-15 people that went to office hours regularly and we all did well in the class. i left the class feeling confident in calc and earned a B.

Prof. Demarest is the only reason I passed Math. I know math isn't my best subject, and after getting a D in precalc, I was expecting to fail calculus. Thankfully, he broke everything down into steps that were easy to understand. He does have daily homework assignments and weekly quizzes, but honestly, it was those things that helped me learn and gave me the points I needed to pass the class. The tests were pretty long, but he acknowledged the fact and curved our grades to make up for it. The only problem I had was his office was always packed, so if you are struggling, you may need to make an appointment with him. Aside from that, he is a great teacher.

I would recommend Demarest for any class he teaches. He is one of the best professors I've had at Poly. It's too bad I only needed to take him for one class because I would definitely take a class he teaches just cause he's teaching it. He presents the material very well and genuinely cares about whether his students are learning or not. He is one of the most chillax people I've met and is hilarious and so nice! Definitely take him if you get the chance!!!

This professor is the best!!!!! Take him for all your math classes. He really wants you to learn and will help you. This was my first time taking calculus. I had no idea how to do Trig or anything complicated. He explained to me everything, which most professors don't do. Go to his office hours. It is very helpful. He had them right before class, so it was like a 1 hour review session before the weekly quizzes. I would recommend to anyone to take his class!!!!

Demarest is the best math teacher i have ever had! He explains the material very well, and wont move on to a new lesson unless just about everyone understands the information. He is very personable and approachable. He also tells some pretty interesting stories. I was his first class for him teaching the 300 series of math (math for elementary teachers). I would totally recommend him for any 327 328 or 329 class. He is awesome and really likes his students and wants them to succeed in his class. The hw he assigns is usually pretty light, and his quizzes reflect directly from hw and group work. His midterms and easy if you study hard and his final is just the two midterms put together. a lot of the questions are the same just with different numbers. He taught me a lot and he is a great guy!
