Pretty good. Knowledgeable and flexible but works to hard to relate to students kind of like the high school assembly presenters who sit in their chair facing the back frame of the chair and try to talk like they're still kids. Otherwise, appropriately chill for this intro course I'll look into taking him for statics

He's so sarcastic! Let's just make fun of the students who don't know all the parts of drills and engines. Also coding in a group of 3 is worthless, no one except the one person coding can learn a thing. If you make him laugh MAYBE you'll get on his good side, I sure didn't.

Fabijanic is a great professor for introducing you to the subject of mechanical engineering. While he is an aerospace engineer at heart, he shows great interest in the subject manner. He does very little in the way of lecturing, and leaves a majority of the time for lab work, which is thoroughly entertaining. He will help you every step of the way during these labs, and will answer any questions you have about the subject. And due to the age of some of the equipment, he will often show a shortcut or bypass to the work. He is also a fairly lenient professor, and may accept some reports turned in late, due most circumstances. This is rarely necessary, because the workload is far from intensive. Overall, a great professor for testing the waters of mechanical engineering if you want to see if it's right for you.

If you need to take statics, I HIGHLY recommend John Fabijanic. He knows his material really well and is extremely helpful. Basically in class you go over homework problems from the night before and then have some lecture time. If you are struggling with the homework problems, just go to his office hours and he will be more than happy to help you. He just genuinely wants his students to learn the material. There were five quizzes (one every other week or so) and he was more than fair when he graded them. The homework for the class is common to all ME 211 classes and so was the final.

This guy is the best teacher i have had at Poly. He is willing to go the extra mile to help students. If you goto his office hours he actually helps and sometimes even gives you points back on exams if you give a good reason as to why you deserve them. He portrays the material very clearly and is not one of those teachers where you ask a question and you get a jarbled answer back. he knows his shit. I would recommend him for any class you take. Great teacher.

This man is probably the best statics professor at calpoly. The material itself is hard and you're going to have to work hard to understand it, but if you try hard and go to office hours, he will definitely curve at the end and is friendly if you need to ask questions. if you have to take statics (you probably have to), try as hard as you can to take him

fabijanic is a good professor. Statics was a hard class and he made everything clear. Everything was straightforward, just go to class and do the homework and you'll be fine. I recommend him for statics

Fabijanic is a good teacher that really forces you to learn the material. Instead of just teaching you theories based on one example he teaches you straight theory and then applys the theory to examples. Lots of examples and as long as you do the hw and pay attention in class you should be ok. Final is killer, but he is very fair with it. There are three midterms weighed equally and hw worth 10%. Do well on the midterms and youll know that you have a good grasp on the material.

what the hell are these people talking about? the guy is terrible. spends too much time on theory, not enough on examples and calculations. he goes over one example per class and it usually has nothing to do with the homework. the way he makes you do homework is also incredibly annoying. he is really stingy with partial credit on his exams. I would not recommend him.

So, I'll just go right into it, I really loved statics it was my favorite course, even though I struggled mightily in it. I thought Fabijanic did not present material clearly at all, I felt the tests were tricky and really just did not feel my actual knowledge on the material was tested. I went and retook statics the following quarter with Prof. Noori and I thought you know I bet I can get a C maybe even a B- now if I really work hard. I did not miss a single point on any of the three midterms or final, so what I learned is that fabijanic really just didn't help communicate that last 10% of material that would have helped everything click for me. I would avoid him at all costs, he made it clear that there was never going to be a curve. Only if you have to.

Professor Fabijanic was really good at explaining material and how it could be practically applied. He gives 5 quizzes that are worth a majority of your grade and no midterms. Each quiz for our class was worth more than all of the homework for the class combined. This could be quite stressful and made keeping up a good grade in the class fairly difficult. The wording of the problems on some of these quizzes could sometimes be confusing. Overall though as long as you did the homework due before each quiz and paid attention in class the quizzes shouldn't be a problem, I only got the grade that I did because I failed to do some of the homework at the end of the class.

this guys monotone voice will be the death of me. statics isnt too bad but its really the start of the weeder engineering classes. fab just presents material really slow and boring but if you shotgun a yerba before you might make it 45 min through his lecture

He forgot that some of us didn't take ME211 like everyone else. He assumed that we all knew a lot about ME212 so it was hard to follow along. He wasn't the most helpful when we were falling behind. He was a cool dude though and tried his best to teach. I wouldn't not recommend him if you are well-versed with ME. I think his upper ME classes made it so that he didn't realize some people taking the class weren't ME majors.

tl;dr: He says you need to use the textbook to do well in the class, but it's wildly different from his lectures, the HW, and the quizzes. And he sucks at teaching. This class is a classic example of the lectures not being like the homework, which isn't like his quizzes, which isn't like the textbook, etc. etc. You can switch those around if you like, there really isn't any continuity in this class. I can't say if this behavior is the same for statics, but we're talking about dynamics here. Going to lecture is pretty much useless. He zooms quickly through all of his slides without motivating any of the equations, nor does he give you enough time to write anything down. What makes it even worse is that he has at least 3 mistakes on his slides on any given day. You go to class and come out saying, "That was confusing, but I sorta got it." Then you get to the textbook. In my opinion, (since I've been using the book to learn instead of lecture), the book is alright, but not great. It has the same problem where many of the equations will be unmotivated and you won't really have an idea where they are getting any of it until the end of the section. Then you'll have to parse through the material you just read to find the equations and constants and stuff that plug into that final equation and it'll kind of make sense. Problem is, it's nothing like his lectures. I'm not sure if he even looks at the textbook when he makes his slides. You finish reading the section and you go, "I recognize that from class, it's just said in a different way which I kind of understand how you get from one way to another." Then you get to the homework. Then you get butt-fucked, and then you find a friend with Chegg to copy down the answers. Enough said. Then you get to the quizzes, and surprise! This shit is different too. Maybe it's the early starting time, but I can't recognize any problem strategies that I used during the reading or the HW. If you kinda suck at dynamics like I do, you resort to just writing down equations and definitions and hope you get mercy points. (which you won't get consistently) He also makes some odd sounds during lecture and thinks he's super funny, when he's not. Dynamics (and CENG in general) is flawed to the point where basically none of the classes are formatted correctly or fun. But dynamics is an especially bad case. If Chen is teaching it, do your goddamn best to get him.

Take pretty much anyone else unless you want PTSD

Fab's tests were very long! The average on the first test was a 38% and for the curve, he only added 20 points to your grade. The average on the second test was 65% and he didn't curve it at all. This meant that you had to do really well on the lab to pass the class. The lab was interesting, he basically just told us to design an electric recumbent bicycle and would often leave lab very early to go to his office, so you're kinda on your own for that. Overall he wasn't a bad professor and he has a lot of practical knowledge that he incorporates into lectures.

He has some sort of a complex. Also thinks you're the dumbest creature on earth when you ask a legitimate question about something only an automobile expert like him would know. He will try very hard to crack sad jokes repeatedly and then lose track on the lecture and stall forever with "Uuuhhmmm... Ummmm..." In office hours, put in a good amount of flirt time and rub his ego and you will eventually get some useful pointers out of him. The class is pretty much straight out of the book. Just stay on his good/neutral side.

I have taken Fab for multiple classes because he is a fantastic professor. His lectures are super straight forward, doesn't give an exorbitant amount of homework, and his tests are straight from hw and lecture. As a lab professor he expects a lot.. but you will be a better student after taking him for lab. If you can take him for a class do it. He is great.

Fab was chill. The class was totally doable, much more so than I was expecting. You WILL get railed on his first test. The average was a 42 and the high was a 66. But don't fret, he drops your lowest test (including the final if so) if you get over 45% on the HW (Connect assignments). Both the second test and final were much better. Fab is a good lecturer too, primarily example based. Study these examples and his process and you will do well. Plus you'll feel like a real engineer and learn a lot. And as a person, I found him to be hilarious. He has a somewhat awkward and frank personality, but I thought his subtle humor pretty funny. Would definitely take again.

My favorite professor after 4 and a half years at poly. You want to become an engineer, take a class from him. You'll learn something, have to work at it, but afterwards you'll feel like you did something significant.

Fabijanic's a good guy and a good professor. He has tons of cool industry experience and seems to be knowledgeable about everything. This all helps a lot in 428 as the class struggles through their senior projects.

Fab knows his stuff. When it comes to cars or motorcycles, if you have a technical question I\'m sure he could answer it. He has a lot of practical experience which makes the class entertaining - it\'s not all theoretical BS. The only qualm I have is he seriously lacks enthusiasm at times. Single Track is an awesome class you should take if you have the chance. I wish we could do it instead of senior project, actually.

Fine teacher, but a little dry in the presentation. I wouldnt suggest having her at 8:00 in the morning, might be difficult staying awake.
