Well Dr. DeMers is the kind of teacher that you can respect. I took him for a lifeguarding class so I can't really say how his tests are because they are from the Red Cross, but he does have a mastery of the material. I mean, hey, the guy wrote the chapters for spinal injury management for the Red Cross. If you're looking for absolute expertise, Cal Poly has him and this is the guy. The swimming activity part of the course was enjoyable as well and he was very concerned with the welfare of his students. So if you want to be a certified lifeguard and want to get school credit for it then take Dr. DeMers and KINE 243.

DeMers knows about everything that there is to know about Lifeguarding and CPR. He's got a lot of experience in his field and it shows. He was pretty anal about things, everything needs to be exactly his way. The lecture part of the class was insanely boring but the lab was usually pretty fun. Easiest class that i've ever taken. But if you've never been certified in either lifeguarding or cpr before then make sure that you pay attention in class, cause the book doesnt cover everything that you need to know for the cert. tests.

I am an EMT (Emergancy Medical Tech., i.e. the guy that shows up in the ambulance) and thought this would be a good class to take for a free A. Please note that although he has a doctorate, he is not a medical doctor. He tries to trick his students with that. Which is wierd since he doesn't seem to know much about emergancy response. Though he may be an expert with water related emergancy response, he doesn't know much about what to do in a medical emergancy. his knowledge must come from some outdated book, like the text book. His constant misinterpriations and false information was terrible. He really needs to get his EMT. I recommend you take a title 22 first aid class with the red cross if you want to learn first aid/CPR (only a weekend) or if you want to really know what to do take the EMT course Cuesta offers.

Dr. Demers understands the field of sports psychology and is very good at explaning the concepts of it. He has been all over the west, teaching and coaching diving plus swiming. He has a back ground of helping students overcome anxiety problems from tests to interviews, and coached NCAA athletes to great accomplishments. He is absolutely the teacher you want to take if your in a sport or in the Kineceology field.

Dr. D was a very patient, very approachable professor. His class lectures were lengthy yet informative. Though there is a lot of iformation to learn, he tries his best to make the class fun and tell us stories about his experience in the field.

Dr. DeMers so loves what he does and it shows. If Aquatics really interests you he seems to know all there is to know and wants to share it with those who want it. I enjoyed all the classes I've taken with him including Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instructor. Go Jerry!

I learned that if I were to take up hunting, I should shoot deer, not bears, because a bear will hunt me back if I successfully wound it. Fascinating! I didnt know that the key to production and operations management was so brutally simple!
