Choboter is the man. He is the best math teacher i\'ve had so far, if you go to class you\'ll understand Calc 1. He makes his quizzes easy, but his midterms are a little bit tough and final as well.

Prof. Choboter is an exceptional instructor and teacher. He presents material extremely well. You can tell he knows his stuff because he presents the material so clearly and simply. Its so easy to understand what's going on. I'll admit, he's a little socially awkward at times, but he has his occasional daily joke, which serve for a slight giggle. Definitely recommend Paul.

Dr. Choboter is a super nice dude and makes corny dad jokes all the time, but can't teach to save his life. His version of teaching is passing out worksheets and having the students work in pairs to complete them. He does maybe one or two from the whole thing as an example on the board, but moves so fast and does not explain anything. If you've taken calc before and did well you'll probably be fine, but I hadn't ever taken it and this class was honestly the hardest one of my quarter (and I am pretty good with math). It wasn't hard because calc is hard, Choboter just didn't teach and the calc book doesn't help. The first assignment is to write a short paper about your experience with math, and then he has you read this lame book about "motivating yourself to not give up" (in a nutshell). This class had more bullshit assignments than any GE I've taken thus far, and that's saying something. I'd probably try to avoid Choboter if you can.

Choboter is a bit of a weirdo but he's funny, does a good job keeping his class entertained, and really knows what he's talking about.

Such a great professor. Teaches you the basics and his tests are simple. If you haven't taken Calc before I recommend taking this guy. There are only 2 midterms and no quizzes!!! Very approachable and takes time to explain things.

This is the easiest Calc class you will ever take. Especially compared to other teachers. Maybe 3 hours a week of homework tops. Tests are pieces of cake. Paul is also canadian and the funniest guy ever. Total nerd but he's so comfortable with himself that I loved going to class every day.

Professor Choboter is a really great person. He is extremely willing to help and always in a happy mood. He cracks silly jokes to keep you engaged and really knows his stuff. The only issue, though, is that he doesn't teach if you're in his inquiry-based learning sections. Rather than teach, he'll just hand you worksheets and tell you to work in pairs to try to figure it out without ever explaining how to compute the problems on the worksheet. This teaching style he adopted doesn't cater to students who need to first be shown how to do something before they do it. If you've taken calc before, you might be fine. Most of the students in my class had already taken calc and they did fairly well. However, if you, like me, have never taken calc, I would not recommend taking it with him. I only missed one class the entire quarter and paid attention in every lecture and still feel like I'm walking away without having understood (or learned) anything. If he actually demonstrated how to compute problems, I would probably rate him an A. He's really understanding, always willing to help, and relatively lenient on the workload. I just wish he would've taught us instead of expecting us to teach ourselves.

PAUL IS THE BEST! he goes slowly, reviews important material, answers questions, is patient, understanding, and is the reason why I looked forward to a math class. Office hours are super helpful and he tries his best to help you understand the material. No quizzes, just straightforward questions on tests. Some people think his inquiry based learning style sucks, but it's just a way to try and get you to think. Once you've given it a shot, he'll show you how it's done. Pay attention in class, do all your work, and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Professor Choboter is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. He doesn't grade on correctness, just completion, so it is very easy to slack off and just throw it together. If you actually work through the homework and come back with questions you will do so much better on the midterms. He loves to answer your questions so if you have any don't be afraid to ask. If you've taken at least one calculus class before you will have a much easier time than someone who has never seen the material before; he sometimes move a little quickly. As long as you put effort into the class it is not difficult to pass and even earn a good grade. The midterms aren't insane, but you definitely need to study, especially some weird cases of problems. He doesn't just give you the easiest form of the problem on the midterm, he makes you work a little bit. Overall I recommend him!

This professor is absolutely amazing. If you go to office hours, he is extremely helpful. He is a genuinely nice guy, and he wants to see his students succeed. There are two midterms, and a final. Make sure you do the homework, and you should be fine for this course. I would 100% Recommend this professor.

I started out the quarter taking 141 from Choboter, and I quickly realized that he was not a good prof at all. In addition to the textbook, he has you read a book that's interesting, but doesn't have much to do with calculus, and then he doesn't really discuss the book in class much. Then he has you do silly conceptual assignments that don't really help much. More importantly, though, he tries to make his class more of an "active learning" atmosphere and ruins it in doing so. He lectures for a maximum of 15 minutes and then hands everyone a worksheet and basically says "here, figure this out." Then the students pair up and attempt to work through the problems he's handed out. He is willing to answer questions, but it's really hard to do the problems when you've only had 15 min of lecture about them. Then later, when you try to work on the homework, it's hard because you didn't understand what was gone over in class very well. This lecture format might work well for an easier class, but not for calc. I decided to transfer from Choboter's section to a prof named Rawlings. *Rawlings is the man.* You can go to his page and read my review if you're interested. I was in a math workshop with some of Choboter's students, and they were definitely struggling to understand the material. Save yourself a lot of trouble and *do not take Choboter.*

Chode Boner's the best math teacher, hands down. Someone tells u otherwise? Tell them to get outta yer face.

Solid professor. One of the best you can take. Begins with a helpful review of last lecture, then effectively teaches new material in an organized, easy to follow, logical way. If you still have trouble after that, he is even more helpful in office hours. As others have stated: DO THE HOMEWORK. The second you stop, things will get very hard. Come on, it only takes an hour. Just do it! In conclusion, I highly recomend taking this guy.

The best math teacher I have ever had. His class is exciting, he teaches the material very well and has a joke of the day which are a nice little break. In his office hours, he is more than willing to go over everything you don't understand. The quizzes are pretty easy if you do the hw, they are almost exactly like one of the hw problems, but the tests and final were pretty challenging, testing if you knew the material and could apply it. I got a C+ in the class, but feel like I know more than kids that got A's from other teachers. Choboter is the best professor I have ever had.

Loved him. This class is really difficult, but he does absolutely everything he can to help his students and will ALWAYS answer questions in depth and clearly. He really cares about his students learning the material. He also gives a ton of extremely easy quizzes to boost your grade, but don't underestimate his tests because calc 142 is crazy hard. Also, if you don't do well on one test, your final grade can replace it! Awesome, awesome, helpful, funny guy.

Choboter is the man. You dont turn in homework but you have weekly homework quizzes which are really easy because its just problems from the homework with different numbers. The two midterms and the final are really reasonable. They have a little more challenging questions but nothing crazy. He is so nice and will answer all of your questions. I would say take him if you can.

I absolutely loved this professor! His grading is fair and the weekly quizzes are easy so long as you pay attention and do the homework. Although he doesn\'t require homework to be turned it, completing it is key to doing well in the class. He was not only enjoyable and understanding, but I really learned a lot from him.

Choboter is a great instructor. He is extremely helpful and will go out of his way to clarify any questions you may have. The only problem I had was that he makes his tests brutally hard so be prepared.

I took Paul Choboter over the summer (5 week course) so all the material was pretty much crammed but we still had the classic 2 midterms 1 final sort of setting. He cut us some slack just because it was 5 weeks like for example, though we had 2 quizzes every week, they were take home quizzes. So I can imagine that for a 10 week course they will not be take home and will be once a week. We also had optional homework once a week, but the suggested problems/homework should definitely be done to enhance your knowledge/practice because his midterms/final are about the same difficulty as some of the problems in the text book/lecture. (Keyword: some). His midterms and final are very fair. I thought that he presented the lecture/material in a very standard/typical way, but wasnt one of those professors that would really stand out to me. I liked him quite a lot though and it really helps to go to office hours because he'll help you with the homework, go over midterms/finals etc. Oh and he also tells cheesy jokes in the middle of the class time just to make things a little less tense. Hes also pretty professional about his work but super chill/laid back at the same time.

Really good teacher, quizzes are easy if you do the homework. Midterms and final can be difficult, but he gives a decent amount of partial credit. DO THE HOMEWORK..class will be much easier. Overall, above average professor.

Choboter is simply phenomenal! He is definitely one of the best profs I have EVER had. He does a fantastic job of presenting the overwhelming amount of material in a quick, efficient, and, most importantly, LOGICAL fashion. As an engineer, his explanations made so much sense to me that the entire course seemed like a breeze. (I had taken Calculus B/C in high school and got a A and B in the course and a 5 on the AP exam so take this with a grain of salt.) Other students taking him also had very positive reviews. He assigns just the right amount of homework problems and no busy work. You don't have to turn in the homework, BUT you must do it to succeed. Pretty much the only kids who didn't get A's and B's on the quizzes and tests where those who didn't do or understand the homework. He's Canadian! And he is very lively in his lectures. Always has a smile on his face. Is honest with students. Tells a joke every day halfway through the class to give us a nice break from all the math. If he doesn't cover it in class, he won't test you one it! Guaranteed! He'll even point out the type of problems likely to be on the tests. Overall: go to class, listen to his lectures, and do the homework; you will succeed in his class! Don't think twice, take Choboter!

This guy is AWESOME. Simply put. I took all my math courses with him back in my freshman year, it just took forever for polyratings to put this guy up on the evaluations. So now I'm able to pass my wisdom on to you new guys...take him if you can. I'm a senior now, and even with all the professors I have taken at this school, I still remember him during my freshman year as being the fucking man. Teaches clearly, easy to understand, and is more than willing to help with students. If I could I'd take him for english cus he's that damn good. GO CHOBOTER!!!

Dr. Chaboter was an excellent teacher. He not only taught the information well but he specifically points out what will be important for tests and such! Furhtermore, he is always open and flexible for office hours or appointments. The only tedious thing is that you need to do your homework over and over again for his quizes, but that just engraves the knowledge in your head anyway.

He's really nice. His notes are written big in the board and they're easy to follow. He tells a joke half-way through class. Weekly quizzes will keep you on track, especially since we don't turn in hw and they're usually not too hard so they can help your grade. I took the class with a workshop and that helped too.

I\'m still in the middle of taking his course, but he\'s such a good professor! I couldn\'t help but say good things about him right now! He\'s great at explaining, and makes SURE you know what he\'s talking about before he moves on. He\'s a really nice teacher. Fair grading, and he seems to really care about his students. I love his teaching style, and him as a teacher. Really, you gotta take him if you can (as long as you don\'t take my spot if he teaches in any of my future quarters :p ) .

Amazing teacher. He is extremely clear in lectures when it comes to relaying the material, and does not hesitate to stop for questions where he will not move on until the previous points are clear (which usually doesn\'t take too long for him to clarify because he\'s a BOSS). The G-rated jokes at the halfway mark of each lecture, his amazing and consistent enthusiasm for the material and his genuine care and concern for his students and how well they understand the material makes Choboter one of the greatest teachers I\'ve ever had in my life...but I half-regret saying this because it may sway someone to take his class and thus lower my chances of getting him next quarter, but I feel like everyone should get a teacher this good at least once.

Loved him. His class is laid back and relaxed, hes such a nice guy, he tells a joke halfway through class, midterms and final were very fair, and I could go on and on. Altogether a very enjoyable class!

After having the crappy teacher I have now, I really miss choboter - HE knew how to teach. I only got a C in this class but I feel like I know the material after getting out of the class. I have a B in my current teacher\'s class for Calc 4 but I have no idea what\'s going on. Choboter is the best calc teacher I\'ve ever had! Way better than who I had for Calc 1,2, and now 4.

Hes a funny, scattered Canadian man who does a great job engaging the class and teaching the material. Bonus- He has a joke of the day that is cringe worthy in the best way. He seems like he genuinely cares and loves when people ask him questions and has been able to answer every question adequately so far this year. 10/10 would recommend.

He's a great Professor and a great human being. He definitely knows his calculus through and through, and has a passion for helping students to understand it. I had him for Calc 1 as well as Calc 3, and in Calc 1 he taught mainly with examples and less lecture which wasn't as helpful, but the way he teaches Calc 3 is great. He is also extremely helpful in office hours. He gives a quiz every Friday which can help you keep up with the material; his midterms and final are super straight forward, there's not really any surprises so if you keep up with the work you should be fine in this class.

This guy is legit. Homework quizzes every week. Basically do the homework which he doesn't collect and you'll get an A on these because he selects exact homework problems for the quizzes. Lectures clearly and organized. Midterms were cake. Just do the homework and go to lecturesand you'll do fine. Plus unlike other teachers he's straight foward and won't put any crazy wacked out problems on the midterms

One of the best professors I have ever had. He is easy to understand. He tells jokes in class to give a break from the lecture. His tests aren't to hard, I could have gotten an A if I'd done the homework. The quizzes are every friday and straight from the hwk or examples in the book. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!

It took a few lectures for me before I started to appreciate Choboter's lecture style. He's got a kind of quirky personality; also, halfway through each lecture he tells a joke. His lectures were key in learning the material. At the beginning of lecture, he wrote all the important points from last lecture on the board and answered a lot of questions (most of the time too many), but still managed to stay on his lecture schedule on the syllabus. Doesn't collect homework, but the homework is very manageable and extremely helpful; quiz every week - if you do the homework you'll do fine on the quizzes, plus he drops the lowest score; exams were very fair Best advice: do all the homework and go to lecture

He presents the material clearly and tells you exactly how to go about solving problems. The tests and quizzes are very fair and on exactly what he went over in lecture. He is also good at understanding what a student is having difficulties with and is always willing to help. He cares about the students and makes sure everyone can succeed. He is a great guy and a great math teacher, take him if you can!

I took Calculus 4 three times and finally passed with this professor. EXCELLENT TEACHER. hw is easy and exactly what's on the weekly quizes. drops the lowest one. 2 midterms and final. All straight forward problems. Do hw and study quizes and midterms are very manageable. very good at responding to questions in class and understanding students difficulty. Dont miss this teacher for math.

Choboter is a very nice guy who just wants to help everyone do well. He doesn\'t collect homework but does have a quiz every week. If you do the homework you will do well on the quizzes and the midterms. He\'s got a good attitude and his class is fairly easy, but watch out for the final. His final is very hard and it destroyed my perfect grade for his class. DON\'T be fooled by the easy start, stay with it and you will be glad you took him.

Amazing professor. Very friendly Presents lecture material very clearly and is willing to clarify things that seem obscure. Very helpful and open to help you out during office hours. This was clearly evident before the midterms since everyone came knowing they would benefit from them. Your grade is based on 2 midterms, where he\'ll drop the lowest, and if you do bad on both, he will increase the weight of the final to help you out.

Choboter is a very good teacher for the subject. His quizzes are very easy if you do the homework. The homework takes maybe 20-30 minutes at the most as he assigns a very reasonable number of problems. The first midterm is very easy and is basically an easy A if you paid attention in class there are no surprises. The second midterm was harder simply because the material was much more difficult. The final replaces your lowest midterm so if you put in a reasonable amount of effort you should be able to get an A or at the very least a high B.

Paul Choboter is the best. He's the most friendly teacher I've ever had. His class is graded off of quizzes and Exams. The quizzes are very easy and based off the homework and the lowest quiz grade gets dropped. The exams are very straightforward and fair (he doesnt try to trick you) and the exam replaces the lower of the two midterms. His class is very fun and he sprinkles in a few corny dad jokes every class to take a break from the calculus. Overall this professor is the best 10/10

If you have the chance to take Choboter, do it! You won't be sorry. He's the best professor I've had at Cal Poly. He's extremely helpful and his midterms and weekly quizzes aren't hard at all as long as you pay attention in class and do a few practice problems in the homework. Homework is pretty short too, and you don't turn any of it in. He is definitely the nicest and most caring professor I've had. He also tells lots of dad jokes in lecture as well as before quizzes and midterms. I wish I could retake this class because I really enjoyed Choboter as a professor. Take him!

BEST PROFESSOR EVERRRRRRR!! He tells kid appropriate jokes in the middle of every class and his general teaching style is awesome. He knows how to balance examples with theory. Plus, he is super helpful in office hours and if you email questions he really does try to answer your questions. I wish I had more math classes to take so I could take from of his classes!!

This man is tied with maple syrup as the most amazing thing to ever come out of Canada. He is a great teacher, and presents the material clearly for the students. His tests and hw are all fair and relevant. It definitely does take studying to understand this class, but it is by no means impossible. Choboter helps in any way he can, including making each class interesting with his passion for math and also with a cheesy dad-joke of the day. TAKE HIM

Dr. Choboter is good at explaining math. He also tells jokes to keep things interesting. He assigns a lot of homework, but it's all useful for teaching you the skills you need. The class consisted of textbook homework, online homework, quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final. The tests were all reasonable if you did the homework.

Honestly the best math professor/instructor I've ever had. He knows how to teach the material well and he realizes the difficulties students usually have with certain concepts, and apportions the material he covers, both rate and quantity, accordingly. He's great in office hours and seems to have an answer for just about everything you need to know for the course. It's a kind of fast-paced class but if you do the homework you'll be golden for everything he throws at you on quizzes, midterms, and even the final. I studied a lot for the final since I did horribly on one of the midterms due to falling behind on homework, and he offers to replace your lower midterm score with your final score if you do better on it. On top of Choboter's great lecturing and wealth of knowledge, he loves taking a short break in the middle of each day of class to give a joke to liven up the mood and hopefully wake some people up. Sometimes the material is hard to stay awake for, but I guarantee that every single lecture is extremely important to learning all of the material. Take Choboter and do the homework he assigns, even though he may not collect it. He's a great teacher and if I could take him again, I would!

Choboter is amazing, there is no denying it. He really makes the lectures interesting, and conveys the material pretty clearly. He's also a really chill guy, and would always make really corny math jokes. It was really easy to feel relaxed in his class, and the exams were very reasonable if you studied the material.

Choboter was a great teacher and really cared that his students learned the material. There are weekly quizzes on Fridays, and 2 midterms. I would say that his tests aren't easy or hard, just in between. I would take him again.

He was by far the most helpful and clear math professor I have ever had. He is a really nice guy, uses relevant examples in class to help reinforce concepts, and is really helpful in office hours. The midterms aren't a cake-walk, so you do need to really study for them, but if you go to class every day and you know how to do the homework problems really well, you should be set for the tests. I didn't figure this out until after the first midterm, that I failed. EVEN THOUGH I FAILED THE FIRST MIDTERM, I STILL GOT A 'B' IN THE CLASS. He is really fair, and somebody I definitely recommend taking. The final isn't easy either, but like i said, if you know how to do the homeworks super well, and study the notes and ask him questions, this class will be great. And he tells silly jokes in class that his kids have told him. I definitely recommend this teacher.

Choboter is a great teacher and really cares about his students. Linear is a hard class, but I feel that he taught it effectively. I had an A- going into the final, but the final was really hard and covered so much material that it was impossible to study it all. His tests were pretty hard, but I think that's just the nature of the class. He was a great teacher, and I'd take him again if I could.

Paul Choboter is on par with Dr. Mueller. It doesn't get much better than that.

Choboter is the best choice anyone could take for any math class. He is an amazing teacher; he communicates clearly, covers everything and is very light-hearted. Whenever he came in and saw us tired or in a lousy mood, he would lighten the atmosphere in his weird ways. He literally has a kid friendly pun everyday for class, and he won't finish the class without telling the joke. There is weekly homework and quizzes, of which both go toward the same grade. The two midterms are tough, but fair. Final contains everything from the final, but is fair as well. Its tough to get an A in the classs I'd say, but not too hard to get a solid B. However, at the end of the quarter, you know your stuff more than anyone else. Take Choboter!!!

Choboter is one of the best professors I've had at Poly so far. He's very lighthearted, and he really knows his stuff. He assigns weekly homework and there is a quiz at the end of most weeks. Both of these combine into the same grade at the end of a week (so if the quiz is worth 15 points, the homework is worth 5; if the quiz is 7 points, the homework is 13). The midterms weren't easy, but they were definitely fair. The final IS CUMULATIVE! However, it's like the midterms: not easy, but fair. There is no way you'll end a class session without hearing at least one joke. I definitely recommend Choboter to anyone.

Paul is a wonderful professor! Gives weekly (easy) quizzes and assigns nightly (ungraded) homework. Two midterms, both relatively easy, but the final is pretty rough. Paul makes this class really fun to go to, and will explain literally anything you don't understand about the material. Seriously–he will sacrifice an entire lecture in favor of answering questions if he has to. I highly recommend taking his class!

LOVE THIS MAN. Would marry if it wasn't weird. I truthfully can say he was the most straightforward, intelligent, and giving teacher i've ever had in my life. Do yourself a favor and ENJOY math with this beautiful man. Final was hard asf tho lol

TAKE CHOBOTER. He is easily the best math professor I've had at Cal Poly. Weekly quizzes which sometimes felt like a lot, but it was a good way to keep caught up with the material and they were never very hard. I only did poorly on one because I didn't study for it. Midterms were both very reasonable. He explains everything very well and I've only been confused a couple times this whole entire quarter. Nicest guy ever. 11/10 recommend.

Choboter was hands down my favorite math professor! He teaches you in a way that's straight to the point and his quizzes and midterms are a reflection of what you're taught, no wild card questions. Also, homework is not collected, but definitely do them for the weeks when you need extra practice;I didn't do the homework but it would've helped especially when you're at solving for general solutions. There are weekly quizzes, but definitely doable and lowest one is dropped! Midterm-wise, the first one is easier but they're both pretty fair. This mans is honestly the nicest, most wholesome professor! Protect him at all costs lol

I love Paul Choboter! Yeah, he is super scatterbrained and kind to hard to follow but it is all worth it in the end. He truly cares for every student and in office hours he will do EVERYTHING he can to help you understand the concept without you ever feeling stupid for asking the question. The class is made up of quizzes, 2 midterms, and final. The midterms and final are weighted depending on their grades in relation to each other. Very kind guy with dad jokes galore and willing to help in any way he can.

Choboter AKA Choad-Boater is definitely one of the better math professors I\'ve had. Do yourself a favor and take his class if you can. His tests were very fair, but that doesn\'t mean you don\'t have to study. We had three midterms and a final, luckily no quizzes. Understanding all the homework is a must to do well in the class. He tells jokes halfway through the class, which lightens the mood. He\'s a cool dude, and Canadian, which is a combination that doesn\'t go together too often. I was a little disappointed I didn\'t hear him say \"EH?\" (apparently he did a few times). That\'s what this guy is all ABOOT!

344 is a hard course (well at the end..) and choboter rushed through a lot of it. We spend a lot of time on Laplace transforms, which are really easy. Frobenius series seem hard at first but turns out to be fairly easy. The last things he went over were fourier series and he didn't do too good of a job on that. He spent too much time in the beginning of the quarter and the last 2 weeks felt so rushed. Theres no quizzes. 20% HW. 25% midterms (2) and 30% final. All of his tests were fair. There weren't any tricks to them. Either you knew how to do them or you didnt. Just do the homework and you should be fine. He didn't really assign enough homework either, but that's because each problem of homework takes about 30 minutes to do. I guess he felt it's unfair to assign more hw if it already takes up so much time. I had choboter for 142 and 143 and his final was incredibly harder than his midterms. However, in 344, all his test material were fair and straight forward. Best professor I've had at cal poly

This teacher was a great math teacher. He explains things really clearly, has good notes and makes sure you understand everything!

Choboter is by far one of my favorite professors I have had at Cal Poly so far. He does an amazing job of making a class that would normally be super difficult pretty easy and understandable. He is very fun and I enjoyed going to class every day to hear his cheesy jokes. If you ever have a question he is very good at explaining the subject material and will make sure you understand it. I would definitely take him for any class you have the chance to.

I took a priority so I could get Choboter for 344, excited to finally have a decent math professor here. Just my luck, he decided to try out this "independent learning" thing where he doesn't lecture, and gives handouts of a "textbook" that he wrote himself. We spent each period watching students workout homework problems on the board. He even had the students explain the problems, and we are not professors. He complained that students get nothing out of long lectures, so this way of learning would be more effective. I am the type of student that needs to be taught this kind of stuff, ESPECIALLY in an upper division math class like 344. The material isn't easy or closely related to much that I've seen in the past. I struggled through this quarter because I literally had no idea how to do anything. Don't save this class or waste a priority to get Choboter unless you're ready to teach yourself an entire quarter of math.

Based off his polyratings score, you would have thought that Choboter would have been one of the best professors at Poly. For some reason, he decided to change his style of teaching this quarter, which was a horrible idea. Every day in class, students present homework problems which are suppose to teach you the material. He doesn't give a single lecture throughout the whole course. It essentially requires you to learn the entire class on your own outside of class, and do the homework problems to master it. If I wanted to teach myself how to do linear analysis 2, why would I take your class?

I signed up with Choboter because he had a phenomenal poly rating. I quickly learned this was a mistake as he adopted a new teaching style this quarter. This 'inquiry based' learning style involved him giving out handouts and us listening to student solutions to problems every lecture. He literally never lectured and expected us to learn the material off of the handouts that he wrote. We weren't given a textbook and received no guidance on how to solve the given problems. If I were you I would not take this class unless you like to learn difficult math on your own without a textbook. I think he adopted this style simply because it made his job extremely easy, seeing as he never had to lecture or explain problems himself. I would strongly advise taking someone else.

Before you take Choboter please make it your quest to find out whether or not he is returning to his previous "lecture" style ways. Unfortunately many of us had to be guinea pigs this quarter and work harder outside of the classroom to teach ourselves Linear 2. The entire class was at an uneven level of learning (students keeping up with material suffered most lectures). It was pretty much independent learning, and lecture times were tutoring sessions. Collects hw on a weekly basis, no quizes, and exams were pretty straight-forward thankfully; he is a harsh grader though. 50pts exams but minor mistakes like a sign-error is -1 WHOLE point.

Choboter is adorable. He's super friendly and helpful in office hours and never makes you feel stupid for asking questions (which I feel is rare at poly). On the other hand, he was a fairly tough grader, so I would definitely take advantage of office hours! When I took his class he was teaching it "flipped" style so we had to teach ourselves the material at home and then worked on problems in class. It didn't work well for me since I just didn't have the time or energy to teach myself outside of class. But this was his first time teaching a flipped class so maybe he will figure out a better system. Overall a great guy and I would recommend taking his classes!

Along with the other students that had Paul Choboter for Linear Analysis 2 this past fall, I am not a fan. He didn't lecture once, he didn't provide a textbook, and he made us present in front of the class on problems that we had no idea how to do. I don't understand how this method of "inquiry based" learning is allowed because he literally did nothing all quarter other than grade our tests. MATH 344 isn's an easy class, especially without an instructor and textbook. Do whatever you can to avoid this idiot.

Like the recent posts have explained, make sure you know whether he is doing his inquiry based learning style. Fall quarter students were the first that he tried it on and it was absolutely terrible. You basically have to teach yourself entirely as he doesn't lecture at all. He is enthusiastic and very willing to help and his office hours are good but class is basically wasted time. Try to avoid him if you can.
