Wow, I had Jeff Danes as a teacher and advisor when I was an undergrad at UConn in the 70s, and based on some of the comments posted here nothing ever changed about him. He was indeed a nice guy, but he lacked the ability to teach the material in a clear manner. His classes were boring and scattershot. I did learn about conjoint analysis from him and recall group projects as many have mentioned. One of my most enduring memories about him was that,as my advisor, after we set my schedule for the next year he failed to submit my course selection to the registrar, so the next semester I had to run all over campus to get special permission from professors to join classes that were by then at capacity. Apparently, he was too occupied with heading to Virginia Tech to submit my paperwork. Anyway, I am saddened to read about his passing and overall, appreciate Jeff for being kind and approachable, in a world where many professors and especially my law school professors could not have cared less about being nice to students. May he Rest In Peace.

Professor Danes is a complete joke. I am sitting in class (unfortunately he takes roll so you have to go) but there are literally 2 students listening to him lecture and everyone else is on their computer mostly texting or on facebook. He takes a full two hour class to describe a concept that could be covered in about 10min. He took 2 classes to tell us how to brainstorm. You will literally learn nothing. Fortunately he is a nice guy and i think everyone gets good grades. (I'm actually in BUS 451 but wanted this to be at the top) TLDR: You will learn ABSOLUTELY nothing. The class is pretty easy.

This teacher is just EASY! You always get 50% from all the test as soon as you pay attention to the presentation that the class gives! And the rest of the grade will depend on your group presentation, so you will get a B for sure in this class!

Pretty much most of this class is presentations, either listening to them or giving them. Very little of the class is taken up by Danes talking(ahem!). You who have taken him will know what I mean. We had to give two presentations, one on an assigned product, and one which your group chooses at the end. I'm pretty sure he gave every group a 95 for the first presentation, but I got a 75 for the final presentation. Maybe my group screwed me on the peer evals, oh well. I don't know what other marketing classes are like, but I don't feel I learned a whole lot about the subject from this man.

Lectures are dull and non-productive; tests are ambigious and frequently contain questions with no correct answers, but are STRAIGHT from the book. Group projects automatically recieve a 95% no matter how good or bad the presentations were, seriously. His grading scale is fair, even set in the students favor.

This course was easy. the grading system was really beneficial to the students. However if you want to learn alot about marketing then i would take someone else. My interest in marketing was not stimulated by this course. The slides he uses are often vague and redundant.

Dr. Dane's lectures are straight from the book. If you read the book, take good reading notes and study the powerpoint presentations you'll do well. I didn't see a point in going to class execpt to listen and get info on the cases which he tests us on. The quizzes are multiple choice, short essay on one case (you get to choose). The other portion of your grade is on the cases and interet cases that you must do in a group. These together are worth a lot of your grade.

Dr. Danes seems to have a lot of knowledge about marketing. Unfortunately, it's presented in such a manner as to make lectures very dull and tedious. On the bright side, he posts all his lecture slides on the web which is very handy for exam review. And his exams come straight from the book. They rely VERY heavily on vocab (especially the vague nuances of a concept) and the order of steps in multi-stage decision processes. All in all, he's not a bad instructor, simply not very entertaining.

I came out of the marketing class having learned what I needed to learned. Unfortunately, I found the lectures and textbook to be extremely dry. On the bright side, he posts the powerpoint slide presentation for every lecture his website for review and to preprint before class, if desired. This is very handy if class is missed. Exams are almost completely based on treating the "Key Terms" as vocab words - but make sure to study the nuances the differentiate them, too. Two presentations (one 30 minute, one 10 minute) presentation make up a good chunk of the final grade and he's very forgiving. An essay question about the last couple presentations is on each quiz/exam, and his grading is liberal, there, too, which does wonders for exam grades. Danes is a decent instructor, but if you need a lively class discussion, you'd do better elsewhere.

Nothing special about him. Pretty boring. first 6-7 weeks of class is powerpoint presentations available on the internet. then he sits there and watches you present your group work. He was a really easy grader but then gave me an A- instead of an A for some reason. It seems like the whole calss got A-'s though. Definately almost no one below a B. I wouldn't really try to avoid classes by him, but I wouldn't go out of my way to take him either.

Dr. Danes doesn't like formalities so he told us to just call him Claire on the first day of class. He comes off as if he's just been through a train wreck, but once you get by that, you can surely take him seriously. My most memorable experience with him was that mysterious puddle of urine that was left in the handicap stall of the business dept. bathroom. Your secret is safe with me, Claire.

Professor Danes knows marketing very well but does not know how to convey it to the students. Overall, the class is a breeze and EVERY group earns a 95/100 on their first presentation so don't put too much into it. Don't bother showing up for class for the middle half of the quarter and just read the book for the midterm which is mutiple choice and an easy essay question. Again everyone gets 100% on the essay portion of the midterm. Overall if you don't care much about marketing Danes is an ok professor. Very boring lectures which you don't get much out of but pretty much an easy A.

this class was confusing. No one knew what or when things were due and what was expected of us. the class consists of power points boring lecture. The grades are made up of 1 hard midterm and the group project. With this project you have 9 team assignments 2 presentations and a final 10ish page paper. It is a lot of group work so be prepared. overall he is a NICE teacher, the class isnt that much day to day work but i put in probably 40 hours on all the group work. The project is actually really fun to do, and you really learn the principles of marketing.

Incredibly boring class, but extremely easy. This instructor is really nice, but he's not a very good teacher. He just reads directly off his powerpoints and has a chronic hairball in his throat. Danes is a totally clueless nice guy. I had no idea at any point in the class what was going on and i still skated by with a B. You have 2 group presentations, one a product of your choice and the other one he assigns, where you basically readvertise the product in your own style. Make a nice power point and say a few big marketing words and you have an A on the projects.

Possibly the easiest class you will ever take at CP. He brings in laptops every day and everyone grabs one and proceeds to check their email and browse the web while he "lectures." In his case, lecture means run through a powerpoint presentation that's straight from the publisher. He also pushes Dialogr.com pretty hard & makes you use it for your projects; this is because a relative of his, Nathan Danes, is the owner of the site. Danes is probably a partner in the site and making money off of it somehow (or just using us as guinea pigs to work bugs out of it). The dialogr.com thing is really pointless because you can just rate your own stuff & skew the results however you want them to come out. Not that anybody I know did that...

Clueless nice guy about sums it up. This man has a big heart and a fun personality but needs to apply his own skills to "market" the material to us. His lectures are really boring. There are a lot of fun projects that use real life skills. However, Dialogr is pushed too hard in this class. He also canceled our final! And, almost everyone gets a perfect on the essay portion of the midterm. Danes is a safe bet for BUS 346.

This class is a JOKE. He's constantly clearing his throat, so annoying. Everyone gets the same grade on the American Express project, which is a 90. The midterm is okay..not too hard, but definitely study for it. You could probably get away with not purchasing the book. He grades kinda hard on the last project and has no explanation why he gives you the grade at the end. If you're looking for a chill, laid back professor, this is the class to take. But if you are a marketing major, you probably won't learn as much as you'd want to.

If you want an easy B takes Danes. Warning: excruciatingly boring, he has a CONSTANT nervous cough or something that gets really annoying, lectures are useless and they basically regurgitate the book and it's not even the important parts. He's obsessed with dialogr.com which is pretty much an idiotic brainstorming web site. He has one midterm, a case presentation, and a final presentation. He was so lazy that he canceled the final and just based our grade on the final presentation! That's one good thing about his class. I realized that I didn't even need to go to class at the end of the quarter and could have gotten the same grade. 1/4 of the class never went. I swear I got dumber from this class and didn't learn anything. Just a waste of time, but an easy grade. Ok, so where to start? He's a horrible professor. That pretty much sums it up. He lectures for like one of the two hours reading straight from lecture notes that he posts online. Going to class seems pointless. He takes role everyday, but I really don't think attendance affects grades at all (at least he didn't say anything about it in the syllabus and never said anything about it the whole year in class). He's at least 10 minutes late to class everyday, including the day of our finals. During dead week, the syllabus said that both days on that week were going to be spent reviewing for the final. So we got there on the first class of dead week, he briefly went over what the final was all about, and told us we could leave and that the next class was canceled. A couple of students asked if the could ask questions about the material and he staright up said "no". WTF is that? What teacher doesn't answer questions about material??? He was a piece of shit teacher, don't take him.

I've had bad teachers and gotten through okay....but he was horrible. Definitely less work than some other professors for this course but the class seems so pointless that you don't even want to try. The most entertaining part of the class was having someone start arguing with him about some point he made or a way he graded something...he couldn't respond at all. There's one project that everyone basically gets a 95 on and some random quizzes that he'll sometimes lecture about first then give you a quiz. I had a 2 hour class and honestly left right after attendance most of the time because it wasn't worth it. BUT if you're taking this class and NOT planning on concentrating in marketing and don't care if you learn ANYTHING....take him over the classes where you learn something/do a little more work

Please, for the sake of your sanity...Do not take this professor. Honestly, I\'m getting a good grade. But I don\'t go to class. I went a couple of time for the attendance points, but listened to my ipod and did homework for other classes for the whole two hours. He reads directly from the slides. He doesn\'t answer your questions. He takes 30 minutes to take attendance/start class. Checks his email at the beginning of class while the projector is on....Took attendance for 15 minutes while we were trying to take a midterm. Weekly case studies incredibly easy..2 midterms and a final straight from the lecture and study slides..one final case paper about 7 pages, but groups of 5 makes it go by quick. Seriously though, I\'ve learned nothing.. Memorizing key terms isn\'t learning.

Danes in hands down the worst teacher I\'ve had at Cal Poly. I do not understand how our school justifies such a blatant waste of tuition. It\'s astonishing. He does nothing in class. He lectures off slides that he posts online which are directly from the book. Half the class sleeps, half the class is on their computer. Either is honestly a better use of time. He spends the first 20-30 minutes of classes being late, then checking his emails then taking roll so that you can\'t escape. His midterms are semi specific questions from the book which has seemed to work out for everyone else but me. The questions are tricky, poorly worded and have multiple logical answers. Apparently the book is all powerful. Even if logically something makes sense one way, if the book says it another it is law. He LOVES so have students argue over questions. He likes the control maybe? Oh and just fyi the first step is apparently not always the most important. The foundation of something is not the most important part even if everything builds on it. Why? Because the book says so. He makes really dumb jokes in class and smiles to himself. Too bad no one is listening.. no one. He also schedules furloughs then sends confusing grammatically incorrect emails which half the class misinterprets and then takes roll when that half of the class isn\'t there. He went over our entire test without giving us our scantrons back and said, \" just try and remember what you put\". Well considering that I was in between two answers for like all of them I\'m sorry that I don\'t remember.. He\'s a joke. If you don\'t want to do work or have a teacher you have any sort of respect for take Danes. Oh and he takes roll in the middle of our midterm. Hello I\'m trying to take a test right now that I am turning in to you at the end of class. OBVIOUSLY I\'m there.

I liked this class a lot. The lectures were a little dry, but class wasn\'t bad overall. Danes was super chill; he generally was late, and had a sort of unorganized manner, but he really does try. We used Dialogr, which I thought was really cool. You go to that site and do case studies that way. This class is heavily group-based, which can be a bummer, but it turned out alright for us. Make sure you rate every post every week, and comment for bonus points. I also found it enjoyable to post, rate and comment on Cartoon Dialogr for extra credit. You get extra participation points for getting in the top 5, and/or having the number one rated post for one of the case study questions. He provides study guides via powerpoint; make sure to review them because they were helpful. I would read and outline every chapter and I did well in the class. Make sure you pick someone responsible for your team leader, and try to stay on top of the group project, because working on it last minute is never fun! Overall, I enjoyed this class. Bring your computer, surf the internet, do the reading on your own time, do Dialogr and you\'re bound to get a decent grade. Take Danes for Marketing. I think it was worthwhile!

He is a really nice, old man and I feel bad for him during lecture since no one pays attention to him; everyone was on facebook. This guy is completely clueless. You can read the book in a few hours and learn everything he makes you sit through for the entire quarter. He has no idea how to lecture and loses his control over the class. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, ignores him and plays on their laptops for the 2 hours. He wastes half the class on this website called dialogr where each student has to post a review of a case study (super easy) and rate other students' responses. There are two midterms and a final which you could pass with any common sense. The chapters are easy to read so get them over with and you are guaranteed an A. There is also a 20-page group paper he throws on you at the very end of the quarter so don't let it surprise you. It's simple if everyone does their part. If you need to boost your GPA, take Danes. There were literally only 2 or 3 people out of our class of 60 that weren't on facebook, watching hulu, or anything else on the internet every single lecture. He told us to bring our laptops then he bored the shit out of everyone. If you put even the slightest amount of effort into this class you will do better than me. There were two midterms and a final that was not comprehensive. They were all basically just vocab. 60 question multiple choice tests that took no longer than about 25 minutes each. Very easy. This class is sad. I'm actually glad i have it because i have other classes that are pretty rough. But..... i will literally doze off in class and wake up and forget where I am.... i haven't learned a single thing in his lectures, because he talks really softly, and uses the same powerpoints he's used for the last 15 years, and it would be a criminal offense to use effort to pay attention to the lectures.... he does not respond to emails.... we took our first scantron midterm 5 days ago and he hasn't posted grades yet... The test was a joke btw, i haven't had a test that easy since high school. the dialogr ratings are a total waste of time, because no one sits through 100 posts and legitimately rates all of them on quality, and part of our grade is judged on our ratings..... idk, i honestly don't think this guy cares, even if he is nice, and the class is easy.... i would be embarrassed with myself. he hasn't engaged the class once and you can hear a pin drop in the class. it is a mindless class, so that could be a good thing or a bad thing for you, just depends what you need in your schedule

Jeff danes is the worst teacher I have ever had at Cal Poly. The man cannot lecture, and he just keeps going and going. Imagine the most boring situation you have ever been in and if you multiply that horrible experience by 10 than you'll understand how bad Danes is. His grading methods are just ridiculous. You'll spend a lot of time working on your class project and then he won't even take the time to read it and tell you if you are doing it correctly because all he does is put a checkmark on it. When it comes to tests his questions are vague and unclear, and then you will be penalized for getting the question right because you didn't list all the information from his powerpoint slides. Oh and on top of that he will have questions worth 48 points and not tell you, and he can't even explain why they're worth that many points. Danes is an idiot and he cannot explain the simplest things, and he turns a 10 minute lecture into a 2 hour marathon. In class today, Danes mentioned he did not feel the need to review PP slides he created because \"it is not my job to reteach the lecture material.\" OK, understandable. When a student proceeded to ask, Can you give us an example question for the midterm, he responded, \"No. I think I\'ve given you enough examples.\" In regards to his responses... Dr. Danes does NOT give you examples to clarify any material. He does NOT clarify his slides, but rather reads directly from them. Further, if you DO pay attention and ask a question about his random material, he will talk in circles, mention the same thing about 4-5 times throughout his answer, and still offer NO solution. Honestly, who is this guy and why is he a teacher? I\'m informing you-- he does NOT teach. I\'ll let you know how the midterm goes... though it\'s not fairing well.

Well folks, I must agree with most of the previous comments, great guy, horrible teacher. Everyone chats on facebook and nobody pays attention but he just continues like they are. Again, he reads slides and tells us to study our notes. Good luck finding anything worth while to take notes on, the only additional information he provides is about his baby the \"Dialogr\". Had three days of lecture on why it is the best thing in the world. Midterm is tomorrow, guess we will just try to memorize slides. Good luck if you get this teacher...

WORST.PROFESSOR.OF.ALL.TIME. He is an embarrassment to Cal Poly and the College of Business. Unclear about everything. The most boring/pointless lectures ever. After 8 weeks, I feel less intelligent for having sat through his lectures. He is the only professor to teach 451, so bottom line, DO NOT be a marketing concentration.

The most confusing professor I\'ve had at Cal Poly! He doesn\'t respond to e-mails, he doesn\'t tell you when you don\'t have class, and he gives really confusing/ bad instructions for assignments. This class was a waste of my time and energy. He forgot twice that I was supposed to make up the midterm!!

This class was by far the worst class I have ever taken, not because of the material but because of the professor. Not only did he forget TWICE that I was supposed take a midterm but he fails to reply to e-mails, phone calls and even inform his class of furlough days. He is the ONLY teacher for this class and sadly has continuously been depleting my love for marketing. If you like marketing, sorry, transfer or just choose another concentration because it\'s not worth it!!!!!!!

This guy is a total joke! He won\'t answer your emails all quarter long and I\'d say he shows up to office hours maybe half the time. He\'s painfully awkward in social situations, twitching and stuttering all the time. He rambles off his lectures in this weird fast voice so you cant take notes and never brakes for questions. Its like he has autism or something. He might be some kind of super genius inventor guy who somehow succeeds at his academic pursuits (he got his PHD somehow)but he is not cut out for teaching at all. F-

Danes is the worst professor I have ever had ever! His test word bank was ridiculous. You would think the word bank would make a test easier, but it made it much harder! During lectures, he reads from the powerpoints and gives us the same lecture over and over again. AND he takes attendance, so rude.

Danes is a really nice guy; I almost feel bad giving him such low ratings. He gives the most boring lectures; thankfully, he is completely oblivious to the fact that 75% of his class is on facebook. He tries to improve his class every quarter to make it better, but from what I\'ve heard, he is still consistently terrible at teaching the material. The midterm was ridiculous. He tells you that it will be based off a \"word bank\". He doesn\'t tell you that the word bank will have about 120 choices to choose from and it\'s more of a sentence bank than a word bank. The class isn\'t so bad; however it can get very frustrating, and Danes will not be much help. It\'s not that he doesn\'t try to help, it\'s just that EVERYONE in the class is confused and it will take him about half an hour to answer your question.

Danes is an awesomeee guy, he tries vary hard to get the class interested and is enthusiastic when he teaches. if you sit in the back is kind of hard to hear him but what he teaches IS relevant. If you have ever talked to him outside of class he is a VERY INTELLIGENT man, even though maybe though his points dont always get across clearly. For all of you who leave him crappy evaluations saying \"you suck at...\" or say hurtful, negative things about his character- YOU. ARE. Pathetic. There are ways to give insightful, constructive criticism w/o being a B*tch. he\'s a teacher because he wants to give back to the community, so have RESPECT! Noones perfect and he tries to improve on things to make it better for students which is a plus, b/c alot of teachers really dont care. I think students get the notion hes this \"horrible teacher\" and think they can talk to him/treat him however they want and its sad because people are rude and he remains respectful back. I wish SOME PEOPLE learned to have RESPECT & DIGNITY, get a life, or shut up- because noone wants to hear you whine. REALLY...

I've only had two lectures with this guy and already know he is by far the worst professor I have had at Cal Poly. It's not that he doesn't try, but he has NO IDEA what needs to be said in lectures. In explaining what readings we had to do for homework, he pulled up the syllabus on the overhead and spent at least five minutes reading the paragraph with all of the names for the readings. When he came to each reading, he'd point to it, read the name, point to the ".pdf" after the file name and explain that it was a PDF file. He did the same thing with three other readings. He made sure to tell us that each one was a pdf file. Then explained the differences between that and ".xcel". Thank you Professor Danes; I've never used a computer before. He took at least a minute talking about the possible different ways to pronounce an author's last name. Everything he says seems like its pointless because of the way he says it. He repeats most points two to three times with countless um's and coughs midway through sentences, and throws 20+ second pauses in the middle of a coherent train of thought, as if his brain turns off and then turns on again. If you're in marekting, you'll have to take this with him. Just know it'll be painful.

While Danes' classes are some of the easiest I've taken at Poly, he was an exceptionally poor professor. If you want to learn anything, don't take Jeff Danes. He is unable to clearly present ideas and concepts, let alone make them interesting. He puts no effort into his lectures. He uses slides from the publisher and it he puts no forethought into his lectures or even thinks about what he will say. He simply repeats the content on the slides. I don't know why this guy is still at Poly. This is one of the only classes where I felt going to class was a waste of my time. If you want to learn, find a different professor. If all you want is an A, Danes is your man.

Danes was an awful instructor, the worst I've had in the college of business. The class is instructed in a computer room and no one pays attention or cares about the class. No one cares because Danes mumbles and grumbles about useless information and reads off slides he didn't create himself. While it's boring, it's not easy to get an A, he doesn't talk about anything so no one really knows what the test is going to be about. I would avoid taking Danes at any cost.

I never rate professors but I feel like I had to with Danes. He is the worst, I want to say something he does something well, but he doesn't. The whole class doesn't pay attention, and he is totally oblivious to it. He doesn't articulate words clearly, and his tests are so poorly written it is unbelievable. It is sad, I really was looking forward to this class, but he has ruined it for me. OCOB please put another professor in, you are doing marketing students injustice by keeping him on the payroll.

Wow..... hahahaha i literally dont even know what to say about this guy. my last quarter at cal poly and i had the "pleasure" of having Danes. let's see... even if you get all the answers right on the midterm, you will most likely get a C. if you ask him why he will respond with some weird remark in between coughing and grunting. Final is impossible and the group project is a joke. if you like facebook and looking at websites for 2 hours straight while getting a average grade in a class, danes in your man

Long story short: This class is so boring it's hard. Literally the most painful thing to go to, you literally feel like you're wasting your life away in lecture. I tried to give it a chance, but its painful. You spend half your class periods discussing every, and I repeat every groups assignment. Unfortunately you have to take this class if you're a marketing concentration. General advice: although the dialogr is a pain in the butt and then some, do it. Literally comment excessively & rate excessively & you'll probably do well. Read those wretched books he assigns, because he'll throw out random questions on the test that no one will know the answer to unless you extensively read the book. This class sucks. Find a way to get an A, it will be the only way it's worth wasting you're life away in lecture.

Tests are short answer, when realistically they should be multiple choice tests. The class is hard to focus in, and his tests cover some material that is not in lecture. Do well on your project and if you focus really well in class and manage to get the main points out of the books that he is looking for, you will do fine.

Here's the thing about his BUS 451 class... you don't really learn anything. Sure, you go in, he takes role, and you watch his powerpoints (or just look at your comp and do the homework all class). Although Danes is an extraordinarily nice guy, he is teaching a group of higher level marketing students what high schoolers are learning. Spending 2 weeks on a single brainstorm and then testing students on LEARNING OBJECTIVES just doesn't make sense to me, for a college that I am paying so much money to to learn from. The only learning I did involved me branching out and just doing extra marketing analysis than was needed, just to practice applying previously learned skills. Very disappointed in the overall methodology of this class, but what are you gonna do... he was the only one teaching it. By the way, this is a very project-oriented class.

Professor Danes is a very nice man, but unfortunately that is not what defines a good teacher. Jeffrey Danes left the industry in 1986 to teach, and it is clear in his lectures that he is regrettably out of shape and practice. Any ties he has to business or reality have long disappeared and have been replaced by a crushing lack of effort and attention to detail. I have now had him as an instructor for two classes, and despite my hopes for his success, I have met nothing but disappointment. A typical day with Professor Danes begins with him showing up inexcusably late, then fumbling with a computer to take attendance, which usually involves waiting for the Tech Center to help him simply log in. He will mumble through vague details he can barely remember and that have been covered ad nauseam in several classes already. After a certain point halfway through class, when he has exhausted whatever non-existent task he wanted to accomplish, he will simply give up and leave the class to themselves. Not to leave. Not to work toward an upcoming deadline. Just to sit and wait out the clock. This happens every class. Where a project-oriented class is supposed to ideally move quickly to meet stiff deadlines, it is instead painfully weighed down by Professor Danes' inability to provide any form of guidelines or insight. To be fair, he occasionally does, but he is always quick to forget what he said and wonder why we did anything differently. He seems unable to remember the fine details of a project's operations, and the burden lies on the students to guide themselves, and, all too frequently, correct him. I will digress, this is not a result of Professor Danes knowingly failing to teach. He has simply been out of industry for too long, lost his relevance, and gone soft. Repetition over several decades has rendered him unable to see how far the quality of his instruction has fallen. However, he will continue at random times - usually the night before class when he decides to impose an unrealistic deadline to catch up for weeks of wasted time - to expect far more effort from his students than he ever has put into teaching them. It is, to say the least, frustrating. I now find myself wondering why we bother to engage him at these times when he has refused to challenge us as students. I am a senior due to graduate in March 2017. At that point, I will have to wade through the job market and hopefully reap the rewards of my degree. However, two of my critical upper-level marketing classes, BUS 451 and BUS 454, were both under Jeffrey Danes. These classes were supposed to impart me with important technical skills (e.g. conjoint analysis, A/B testing, life cycle marketing) and the analytical skills associated with a long-term marketing project. All of these were never once taught to me, and were completely omitted from course material. Thanks to Professor Danes and the ridiculous tenure system that decided his subpar instruction should remain a fixture of Cal Poly, I fear that I and my classmates will be entering the workforce at an objective disadvantage to those lucky enough to be taught these classes at other schools by other professors. I envy them. To the students perusing PolyRatings to decide who their future instructors will be, I say this: avoid Jeffrey Danes and you will be a much better student and working professional for it. To the Cal Poly faculty I say this: Jeffrey Danes has outlasted his abilities as a teacher, and keeping him on does your eager, hard-working students a disservice. He has to go. And more importantly ... I want my money back.

Please don't listen to anything the other students have to say about him. This is the second class I have taken from him and I thoroughly enjoyed both of them. In this class we had three group presentations from articles, a final group project/presentation and a midterm, which were three essay questions. I found his lectures interesting and entertaining because he has alot of experience and knowledge in his field. He also brought in guest speakers to help clarify our lectures. Overall he is a nice and caring man who wants his students to do the best they can. When you do a good job you can see that he is truly proud of his students and he is not like other teachers who could care less on whether you succeed or fail. If you have motivation problems or an inability to pay attention to lectures then don't take him, if not I think you will be happy to see you finally have a nice professor.

Danes is the best ever. So what if he says "um" ALL THE TIME. He is the nicest professor you will ever have. High Tech Marketing was a breeze and I actually learned some things. His tests were all about including key terms, the more you put down in the essays the higher your grade. He is sooooo awesome. Take him for everything you can and it will raise your GPA.

I don't know why his grading is so low. I've taken him for 2 courses already and I love him more everyday because I barely have any work to do in this class and get an A. No final. Only one midterm thats all easy with the same questions as the study guide questions. So with a little studying, no wonder everyone got a B or A on it. You don't need to do the reading as long as you review the slides and study the study guide before the test. Then there is 2 projects with a paper. Don't stress over it because he's an easy grader. Presentation doesn't matter much as long as you support your ideas. He didn't agree with anything we said because I think we did it wrong, but he still gave us 95%. No need to dress up for presentations! Then the final project is a technology you pick, basically doing the first project over but with a differnt marketing strategy because its a different product. Take his class, get an A, and have less stress in the quarter.

For the senior project, Danes is not a bad option. He knows his stuff when it comes to the more abstract ideas and has more free reign to do more things like in a senior project class. The client was excited for our work and Danes did a decent job clarifying what he and the client were looking for. The workload was pretty small, but I got some great experience out of it. I would definitely recommend Danes for senior project, especially if you want a smaller workload.

danes is a really nice guy who knows his marketing. the class itself is ok, but all he does is show powerpoint slides that are straight from the book. the midterm is weird, because it is multiple choice and he tests you on stuff you've never seen before. he grades real easy on presentations and stuff, and you spend like half of the quarter watching other people present.
