This is a lame site. The comments are statistically insignificant. Most comments lack basic grammar and spelling skills.

Previous entry proves how fucking stupid this website is. He and his wife moved away TWO FUCKING years ago because Cal poly doesnt pay enough--they're in San Fran. If you want to learn from a frenchie-antiamerican asshole fuck then move up there. Otherwise shut the fuck up and keep your liberal ats comments to yourself!

Delaure is so awesome!! He is this cute French guy that is extremely cultured. I totally didn't expect this class to be so interesting! He basically opens your eyes to the world and gives you different perspectives other than the United States. I had it from 5-7 and every night he would start the class by opening the blinds and admiring the sunset. There are 2 essays and 3 speeches, but they are really easy. The speeches are really simple and if you feel unprepared the first day you can just tell him and he'll let you go the next day! The last speech is on one of your essays, so it's really easy. You get to choose your essay topics and it can be pretty much anything you want as long as it is somewhat controversal. Someone wrote an essay about the downfalls of sex education in the U.S. and even made a cover that had people having sex on it and Delaure said, "Nice cover." How tight is he!? The first essay he grades and tells you what you need to fix in order to get an A and then you get to revise it!! The second essay wasn't due until the last day of class. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS!! Eventhough it's a night class it is SO worth it to take him.

Delaure was probably one of the best teachers I've had in my overall schooling career. He is very intelligent and runs the class with a smaller "liberal-arts school" feel that he is/was accustomed to. He is a very fair grader and made it very clear what he expected on the assignments. The class basically consisted of short readings and 2 papers accompanied with speeches. Everyday we would spend 90% of the class discussing the readings and the issues, (that were often very interesting). I would highly recommend this professor, I can guarrantee you that you will have a good experience.

Damn good teacher. Good discussions, a very reasonable work load, and he gives you plenty of help on preparing your papers and speeches.

Max is without doubt the best professor I've had at Cal Poly. This is the only class I took last quarter that I never cut, even though he gave a few "freebie" days in the attendance grade. In this class, you'll be assigned reading before class, and then you'll discuss what you read. Discussion focuses on the presentation of the author's argument, and also on presenting your own support or rebuttal of the author's thesis. The grading is not complicated, and you'll be told exactly what is expected and when. Prof. DeLaure will work with you if you've got difficulties of some kind. He's a very laid-back guy, and alot of fun to talk to. If you enjoy debating issues, reading and writing opinion pieces, and generally thinking critically, you'll enjoy this class. I'm an engineer, so I probably won't see much more of Prof. DeLaure, but I'd take him again at the drop of a hat.

I agree that this site is stupid, has no significant value, and that no one knows how to use grammor or spell correctly. The idiot below me got busted by DeLaure. He posted his rating the day after we got our graded essays back. DeLaure figured out who it was, printed out his polyrating and showed it to the class. Everyone laughed except for one student, so it was obvious he left it. He didn't get an A in the class because we haven't recieved grades yet. I don't understand why people would come on here and lie to make teachers look bad when it's obvious they just can't keep up with the course material. It doesn't matter how I feel about Professor Delaure. But I just feel like I should say that he never once has pushed his views onto his students and whenever he felt like he may have crossed the line, he was sure to say that it was just his opinion and that he wasn't saying anyone was wrong. The person below me blatently contradicts himself when he says, "the issues talked about are not about right and wrong its your opinion based with logic" and then later says, " dont say anything that involves opinion." Just to set this straight, this is a very interactive class and he tries to strike up debate, so obviously he likes to hear peoples opinions and participating in class is part of your grade, so participate. Also, what the hell does his polyrating have to do with his wife? I'm guessing he has never taken his wife, so why bother saying that? It just makes you look even more stupid. Anyways, you can like him or not. I personally liked him and would take another class of his if I had the chance.

The only feedback you get throughout the entire quarter is one paper worth about 10% of your grade. After that, you have no idea how you are doing in the class until you get your final grade. This guy is always right and is smarter than everyone in his classes. All he does is rip on America. He sometimes puts people down for their opinion. I wouldn't have an opinion in this class unless it is one that agrees with him 100%. I would advise you to avoid him if you want a structured, organized class.

I didn't really like this professor, mostly because he seemed kind of arrogant or like his opinion was always right. Most of the class is just reading controversial essays in the book and discussing them, but then he throws a lot of work at you all at once... like during the last week and a half, we had a paper due, a speech, and a revision of another paper due. It was a lot, and he doesn't really tell you what he expects. The whole class was kind of ambiguous and I didn't really feel like I learned anything. He does make you think though, I'll give him that.

Maximilian Delaure is an excellent teacher and made what should have been a boring class into one that was both informative and interesting. He's very intelligent and uses fact to back his seldom spoken opinion. He provides you with information to make your own informed opinion about the many debatable topics that are brought up by the readings. He's also very funny and the amount of work is not bad at all. Overall, great class but only because of a great teacher.

Prof. Delaure was a cool guy. He did a really good job of keeping the atmosphere in the classroom relaxed (which is tough to do in a speech class). He was very approachable and really relates to his students. The class is mostly reading interesting and relative articles and then discussing them in class. It is enlightening, interesting and manageable. Take him.

Delaure is awesome. We would read a short reading, and discuss it in class for the two hours of class. Surprisingly it didnt get boring, and was actually very interesting. We could move through lots of relevant topics from the starting point of the reading, without being irrelevant at all.. He grades tough, but fairly, and he creates a very very relaxed environment. He has a hint of a french accent, which only makes you like him even more. the speeches arent too big of a deal, SCOM 101 was way more intense. basically he kicks ass.

This is not that hard of a class. You do maybe an hour of reading per class and the class is pretty interesting. You write a couple sentences per reading and you usually have 5-7 per week. Very easy! Attendence is mandatory for every class, but you graded on participation, three essays, two speeches and a final that was very easy, if you did the readings. Overall he's a nice guy and the class is not too bad. He does however grade your papers and speechs pretty hard. Very easy to get a B!

I didn't want to take this GE,but it turned out to be a nice surprise. Interesting material. Made me really THINK. The man is smart. A nice guy, too. Very understanding if you go speak to him. Don't what the angry poster's comments were all about. Can't imagining hating this cool guy.

This guy is awesome. This class is terrible no matter who you take it with, no one wants it but you have to take it so you may as well take it with him. He does a great job presenting material, and he REALLY makes you think. The class is incredibly depressing, but only because you are ACTUALLY thinking about life and what is going on in the world. If you want to get something out of your education, he is a good guy to take this class with, if you want to just coast on not thinking too much and not questioning anything, you can take someone else. class consisted of 2 papers and a speech, and some other assorted small things, one final, not too hard. Good class

This professor was friendly and cool, trying to get us to talk and participate. He was pretty energetic and seemed passionate about this stuff. The class got a bunch of laughs too. I don't know about this arrogance stuff others gripe about. I kind of expect and hope to get teachers that know more than me about what they teach. The guy is very informed. Anyway, if you're stuck having to take 145, I'd recommend him. Work is reasonable. Grading is fair. And, as otehrs said, he'll get you THINKING.

This guy is a TOOL BAG. He's an ATHEIST FRENCH LIBERAL with small mans syndrome who thinks hes the shit. He knows some stuff, but the issues talked about are not about right and wrong its your opinion based with logic. Yeah the class is easy to pass and the classes are not horrible to sit through because there is discussion. Advice: be as liberal as possible, dont say anything that involves opinion, and suck his dick with whatever side he is on, or else when it comes to grading you will be screwed over like most of my friends. If your looking for a easy good grade and not how fun the class is then dont take him or his wife. I got an A by the way just in case for all you haters out there!

Highly recommended fun class (with work, though)! If you're interested in reading and writing short stories, you will learn a lot. I'm an OK writer, but I learned so much about short stories. This class changed the way I read ad understand short stories. It was great to also get lots of feedback from other students. The class is run like a workshop. Better not be shy! Prof. Delaure always gave great comments in a respectful but funny way--we got some good laughs. If possible, I would take him again. One draw back: many, many readings. Easy readings, but lots of them....

I'm not the gushing or carping PolyRating type, but this class was fabulous! I've taken several creative writing classes in the passed, and this one was the most demanding and inspiring so far. He critiqued our work effectively and his comments were funny and helpful. (And he made you feel like writign more.) I really learned more than I expected in this class, and I'd HIGHLY recommend this class to anyone serious about writing short stories. As a bonus, he will make you laugh every class. He's quite a unique character. By the way, writing short stories is MUCH harder than I thought!! If you get a chance, take him.

This was my first creative writing class. I had no idea what this would be like, but I enjoyed the class, and I ended up working more on my stories than I had expected to. Then I didn't think further about it... until I took other creative writing classes. Professor DeLaure's class was both more demanding and more interesting. He really struck a balance between encouraging us and giving us a hard time. I felt both that I was doing well, but that I was far beneath my potential, and needed to push myself much more. I think that's what good teaching is about. Take him if you have the chance.
