I liked Dr. Baxley. She had good notes and explained things really well. I was scared to take chem and I hated science in hs, but I liked this class because of Dr. Baxley. I can't believe I got a B! Thanks!

Dr. Baxley is a pretty chill professor for Chem 110. We did take 3 midterms and a final. Basically, just study each chapter and review the study guide and you should be fine. Midterms are a little difficult because she does ask specifics about structures of chemicals or their names, etc... but not to anal about it.

Baxley is a very fair teacher who sets you up to succeed. If you put in a little effort into Chem 110 you should receive an A realistically. Its a very easy class with quizzes about twice every three weeks, two midterms, and a final. The final can replace one of your midterm grades and its not too bad. Take Baxley if you can she is cool

Very immature and is more concerned with whose who than teaching. If another professor fills her head with negitive ideas about you before you take her class then she will do all she can to keep you from suceeding in her course, and she will ruin your chances for your career. A Bakersfield college sheep. Her standard as far as charactor development is very low. Weak individual.

15% of the problems were formed from the elements on the wall. I had to look several times to focus on the numbers which I wrote on the side column of the page then I used her digits of significant numbers, and the answers were right. She marked them wrong because I had wrote on the side column 5 digits after the decimal instead of four. She manufactured errors on my work, also she denied humiliating me in front of the class. There was a full class that witnessed your actions. Grow up.

Let me just start this off by saying that I almost dropped this class because the first two weeks were killer. I started off the class with a 60% but managed to pull an A by the end of the quarter. This is thanks to Professor Baxley. The chemistry department may dictate what she has to teach, but she does all she can to make sure the students understand the material. Out of the teachers I have had, she has the most helpful office hours, so use them. She also has the best communication through email. I would email questions to her about a homework assignment during the day and she would reply in sometimes as little as five minutes, and never more than a few hours. One of the greatest characteristics of this professor is that she is actually HUMAN. Some of the other science and engineering instructors do better conversing with a computer than another human being. When you talk to Professor Baxley, you know that she going to treat you like a person, not as *STUDENT #2564.* Now don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean that she is an easy instructor. This just means that you will learn the material very well as long as you are willing to ask for help when you need it. Just remember that she is always willing to help you if you ask. I would highly recommend Professor Baxley to anyone and everyone.

While she isn't the easiest chemistry teacher, she sure does know her chemistry. Her classes are fun with demoes but her labs can be a little tricky. She is very helpful during office hours and is excellent when it comes to replying to emials. It isn't an easy class, but she makes it fun to the point where it doesn't matter what grade you get. I definatley recommend her for chem 124 or chem 125 which I am taking right now with her.

This is a tough class so be ready to work if you take it, Dr. Baxley does a good job of explaining the concepts if you pay attention in class. You need to retain the information ecspecially from the first few chapters well if you want to do well on your final.

Dr. Baxley messes up on more problems in one lecture than I have ever seen any other professor mess up on in a whole 2 weeks worth of class. She always makes late changes to lab reports and what Homework you should do to study for tests or quizes that cause students to have to spend a lot more time redoing work that they did incorrectly because she gave them bad instruction. If you don't have to take Baxley don,t. She is very nice and is helpful during office hours, but so are all of the other Chemistry teachers.

Dr. Baxley is not the worst chem teacher, but i would reccomend someone else for 125. Her lectures were slightly scattered and jumped around the book way too much. Also she would assign homework online just a day or two between class, so you always had to be checking her web site. I would not reccomend her for chem 125.

Its 12:00 at night, you've been working on the lab report since 6. "this sucks" you think to yourself. you hate excel, you have chem, and your contemplating suicide. But you know u gotta get this done, or baxley will gladly give u a 0 for this lab report. So you chew it out. You're like... just keep swimming, just keep swimming. Finally, at 4:30 in the morning your finished. Too bad you have to wake up in 3 hours. Oh well. At least you got this lab report done. You stroll into chemistry the next day, thinking to yourself, man this was a tough lab... getting ready to turn it in. "Class, im sorry i made a mistake in the beginning part of the lab, so you're gonna hve to do it over again." So u think to yourself, oh its ok, i have most of it done anyway. "oh yea, my mistake was toward the beginning of the lab, so you will have to do most of your calculations over again." Whopee, the past 9 hours you have spent doing your lab have been pointless, throw them away, they will never be seen again. REEE-JECTED. You will have to redo an entire lab because SHE made a mistake. Ridiculous. --------------------------------------------------- Class average was about a C, dont count on it being an easy class, because it requires a ton of studying and lab prep. Baxley is an ok chem teacher, but makes tons of errors on everything. -------------------------------------------- Morale of the story: Dont take chem 125, you'll end up either committing suicide or being slaughtered by bears.

She is terrible. She thinks she's funny when she's not at all. She thinks shes tough because she taught at some community colege somewhere. Shes a punk when it comes to grading just about anything. I had no idea what I was doing in any of her labs. She teaches on it 2-3 classes after the lab. She tests on material she doesn't cover in lectures and she gives 100's of practice problems that you will never see ona graded assignment. I was doing 10 page labs while my friends in other classes were playnig Halo. The only positive is I deserved a D but she gave me a C+. Avoid Baxley.

Dr. Bacley was a very enjoyable teacher and made class fun to go to, even at 7:30 in the morning. Her exams were not very difficult. The most difficult thing about the class were the lab reports. she did give you a lab report sheet which was very nice, but the grading was very harsh which was more done by the teacher's assistant than Dr. Baxley. Take her if you can

Dr. Baxley's a great teacher who has the unfortunate job of teaching a bunch of engineers who don't want to take chemistry. I hate chemistry and I'm really bad at it, but Dr. Baxley made the class fun. She explained things really well, and if you didn't understand, she'd say it a different way until you did. Ya, the class took a lot of time and her tests were hard, but this is college, not high school. I did all of the worksheet problems and about half of the book problems. I would have done better if I had more time to do more problems. If you're not going to do all of the book problems, start at the end and go back because the harder questions that are more like test questions are at the end.

Baxley was not helpful to me. She was confusing in lecture, and her tests were harder than the reviews. A lot of the time, she didn't seem to really know what she was talking about, like said before, she teaches out of the book pretty much. There were also a lot of inconsistencies in her lectures and the homework she assigned didn't help much when it came to quizzes and tests. Avoid Baxley, plain and simple.

This professor is not totally rounded on the material, she can't provide answers to a lot of questions and even stumbles in class when applying calculations. The thing that made me come on and post about her, however, was the very annoying fact that it is one week before finals and she has yet to post a single grade the entire quarter on blackboard or otherwise. The only grade she has posted was a surprise online assignment that less than 10% of the class was aware of and even less did (it was never assigned on the syllabus or anywhere else for that matter). She supposedly told our class at the end of the last lecture of the week that there was an online assignment, I havn't missed a single lecture (unfortunately). She's just not as fair as Dr.Schoonover for example, where everything is explained and layed out for the students to work on knowingly, instead she gives over 90% of the class 0/5 for not hearing 10 seconds of a lecture.

There's a lot of comments on here from people who didn't do well in this class. Baxley was the best chemistry teacher I've ever had. I took Keeling last quarter and he was horrible. Baxley is very straight foward. Chemistry is such a hard subject but she teaches it very well. You have to stay organized and on top of everything, don't miss class. There's online assignments that are your responsiblity to do, quizes, and three midterms and a final. The quizes are similar to the homework and worksheet problems, so if you do them, then you'll do fine on the quizes. The tests were pretty easy. She was really great you should all take her!

Seriously could not have studied any harder for a class- I was putting in like 10 hours a week just for this class and my grade never reflected it. One of those classes where if you feel good about the test, you failed it. I thought I aced the final and I got a high D. I think she may have given me someone else\'s grade, that\'s how shocked I am. Seems like she tries to fail people.

I was really worried getting stuck in this class after reading the messages here. But Dr. Baxley is nice and I liked her. I only got a C, but she was helpful and understanding especially in lab, and the C was my fault for not doing enough problems and not reading the book. I think there are a lot of bad comments here because she doesn't let people get a way with being jerks. Her lectures are fine and she gives notes so you don't have to write like crazy. But you have to do your work to be ready for the tests, and make sure you finish the labs.

Who ever wrote that comment was out-of-line. Comments like that should not be tolerated and are not at all helpful to future students, not mention the blantant disrespect for the Professor. Professor Baxley teaches a difficult subject and it is not surprising to me that others who got Ds or worse don't like her. She is an overall good teacher. Sometimes her lectures can be a little confusing, but she's very approachable and her office hours have always answered any questions that I've had. In lab, she explains it well, and is a fair grader with few surprises on quizzes.

Dr. Baxley is pretty chill. She tries hard to get students motivated, and is fun to have in lab. She doesn't put up with junk from rude kids, which might be why she gets some bad comments here. Even though I got a B, I felt like I learned a lot in this class. Way better than my other chem prof.

Dr. Baxley is a really good, caring teacher. Chemistry is hard, but she really tries to make it useful and she helps students really learn the material but doesn't just give out grades. The class takes a lot of effort and homework isn't usually collected, but you have to do it anyway.

I don\'t understand why so many people hate on Baxley. Chemistry is a hard subject for me and she made it very easy for me to understand. She\'s strict and she expects a lot from her students, but if you do everything that is asked of you, you will do well in the course. Her lectures are very organized. She puts lecture notes on blackboard for you to print out so that during lecture, you just fill in the blank parts. Tests aren\'t too bad as long as you study and practice the homework problems. She is definitely one of the best: TAKE HER!

I don't think Baxley is that great of a teacher because I don't think she is intelligent enough to explain things students don't understand. She treats the class like everyone is 12 which makes me dislike the class even more. Some classes, instead of lecturing she would go over two or three questions from the notes and those questions would just take the entire time. I skipped a few of the classes and the classes I went to I would end up doing the lab reports or doodling all over the notes so I don't think they were very useful. If chem is not an easy subject for you, do the worksheets she gives you and the book problems and that should be enough practice to do well on the tests. There are some "trick" questions, usually multiple choice but just read carefully and you can get around them. Also some people have trouble finishing her tests on time but just keep up a good pace and you should be fine :). I would not suggest Baxley as a teacher but I do know some people that like her.

First of all, I don't know why this teacher has two submissions in Polyratings - that is just stupid. I had Baxley for LAB ONLY, not lecture. She is a very thorough and well-prepared teacher who knows her stuff well and does a great job at explaining it. That being said, she can also be overly strict and unforgiving. She's EXTREMELY PICKY in lab. Expect to miss points for any little thing (too much blank space on graph, etc.). She takes off quite alot of points on sig figs as well. Also, she doesn't like to answer the harder questions, she wants you to figure it out on your own - most of the time this is just fine and is a good policy, but other times the students are completely lost and don't know where to begin, so they end up getting screwed over. Don't expect to get out of lab early, because you won't. She can lecture up to and hour and a half before lab even begins. Also, her lab quizzes are super hard, you HAVE to study for them. To sum up, BAXLEY IS A GOOD TEACHER, SHE IS JUST EXTREMELY STRICT. I'd take the class again with her, it makes you a better student. Highly recommended for Chem/Biochem/Bio majors, anyone else should take another class if they can.

Baxley is the worst possible teacher... if you get her you need to drop her. She is a condescending bitch, we doesn't even know chem that well. Her lectures are disorganized and she treats her students like they are five. This class is hard, but she just makes it that much harder. I had to take her for 128 and 129 (she was the only one teaching 129). She was a horrible teacher. I have to retake 129 because of her. Her final for 129 didn't even cover questions in our homework or that we ever went over in class, it was impossible to pass. The only reason I passed 128 was because I was taking a supplement workshop for another 128 class. Don't take her. She makes snide remarks during lecture if she thinks your question is stupid. Don't listen to anyone who says she's a good teacher because those students were obviously her favorites.

Chemistry 129 sucks. It's a hard class, it's supposed to "weed" out those folks who are unable to handle the rigors and vigors of the course. That said, Dr. Baxley is a wonderful teacher. She is knowledged, organized, fair, and she gives you plenty of opportunity to practice and seek help with the material. I withdrew from the course due to a major change, I'm terrible at chemistry, etc. However, I've taken a ton of chem at Cal Poly and I know good profs from bad ones, and she is a GOOD one. She has amazing notes that she gives you and, honestly, I can't say enough good things about Baxley. However, she comes off as a cold and uncaring sometimes, but she is fair and really nice when it matters.
