First day of class i thought they guy was a little old and his accent kinda scared me, but i figured he'd be an okay guy. holy hell was i wrong. first off, he has mandatory homework which is 10% of your grade, and is a big help. his quizzes are pretty tough and his tests are predictable. i did every homework assignment, did ok on the quizzes, and got a B and D+ on the midterms. i figured B or C on final and id be golden. boy was i surprised when i got an F. He's a stubborn asshole who cant write worth shit and explains horribly. he skips crucial steps when doing problems, doesn't bother giving background to a concept, and is terribly unorganized and illogical in his explanations. i told him to never teach again...and i meant it

This guy definitely knows his shit, but his biggest problem is his ability to explain it. I understand that he is new, but his lectures were incredibly boring. Also, his quizzes and tests are pretty tough. I guess the good thing about the tests is that you can omit one problem. Even with that though, they were still tough. Also, I had like a low C/high D before the final, but then did well on the final and got an A in the class. What probably happens is that he replaces your overall grade with your final grade. Overall though, I wouldnt recommend this guy because he is boring and doesn't explain very well.

He's not THAT bad people. His tests are actually amazingly easy. He gives like 8 prob. and has you do 6 of them, and if you even romotely GLANCE at the homework, you'll recognize the tests as being really similar. I'de have to say he's the fairest in terms of tests that resemble the homework and lectures. the only thing that's shitty, is that the homework is MANDATORY. i got a b beacuse evern though i had a's on all the exams, i didn't do much of the homework. but he anounced easy ass quizzes a week in advance and is overall an easy teacher. not the best or clearest lecturer, but a very fair tester (though anal grader) he's not that bad and certainly better than i've had. a relatively easy A compared to other prof's . . .

If you are looking for a good teacher to clearing present the material for you to learn this class, i wouldn't suggest Professor Bernau. I ended up with a B- but I had to teach myself the class to get it. His lectures are basically pointless, the only reason you go to his class is because he has random pop quizes all the time. It is best if you get a teacher who can actually teach other than theorems. If you can teach yourself Calc well, take him and you shouldn't have too bad of a time but if not, don't take him

Yeah...as you can see by my grade i didn't do so well. I really didn't like this guy at all. His handwriting was horrible, and his lectures were not clear at all. As others have said, he gave no background as to what we were doing at all...just kinda jumped into things. He also got confused at his own work on the board a lot...then couldnt figure it out. I really disliked him. Everyone in my class that I talked to disliked him. I am now taking 143 over again with Robertson (GREAT prof) and I'm getting an A in the class. Unless you really like to learn on your own, don't take Bernau.

Bernau recently came over from Cal Poly Pomona. He has an English accent, but its not much of a problem. He would jump into lessons without explaining the concept behind the processes. If this were to happen with another teach, I would try to rely on what the instructor writes on the board. The only problem with this is that Bernau's handwriting is comparable to me writing with my left foot. He is a new teacher and his styles are different, but he did make an effort to conform to a different kind of teaching. On his tests you usually had a chance to omit some questions and choose which ones you wanted to do. I think will progessively get better as a teacher.
