He is very good at presenting the course material in a number of ways until everyone (at least who has questions) understands it. He assigns homework, but it is not collected -- although VERY helpful! His tests & quizzes are hard though -- he really wants to make sure you KNOW the concepts. There are quizzes around every 2 weeks (worst is dropped), 2 midterms, & a cumulative final. Todd is EXTREMELY good about office hours -- if you're having any issues, he does all he can to help explain them..

Dr. Grundmeier is one of the best professors I had. He is always helpful during class and during office hours. He presents his material in a simple and well organized manner. No homeworks are collected for the class, but they will get you ready for the quizzes and midterms.

This guy is awesome. By far my favorite math teacher so far. He is clear, precise, methodical, and patient. He is always willing to go back and explain his steps and he does so clearly. He doesn't collect homework, but i recommend you do it. There is a quiz a week, not hard at all, always based off lecture or homework. his tests are neat and about medium difficulty. He's great at explaining concepts and very clear. If you have the chance to take him, DO IT! i'd kill to have him again

DR. G!!! He was awesome. Probably my favorite teacher in Cal Poly thus far. Whether you have never taken calculus before or failed it the first time, Dr. G presents all the material clearly and slowly. He actually makes sure every single person in the room understands the last step before moving on to the next step. I probably would have gotten an A had I not bombed the second exam due to lack of studying. I highly recommend taking him.

Todd is exceptional at helping students through calculus. If you have any difficulties I suggest you take him. On the other hand, having taken calculus before, I found the class relatively unchallenging. I know that some who had taken calculus before had some trouble which was probably dependent on the nature of their high school course. In any case, Todd is a great professor and I would recommend him to anyone. There is no homework, and he issues weekly quizzes(except on exam weeks). There are three midterms and one cumulative final.

Haha! So i didn't pass this class. Oh well, Grundy is awesome. He is a teacher's teacher; a very professional teacher that knows how to speak clearly and make his point. He doesn't collect homework, but i'm sure i should have done it anyway. The tests are not bad at all and there are no quizzes. Haha, another thing that i noticed like halfway through the class is that this guy is exactly the same guy as that weird couch touching, mail reading, clue finding Steve....from the kid's show "Blues Clues" Haha, he looks like him, acts like him, talks like him. He does that thing where he asks a question and then waits for like 4.5 seconds for the kids on the other side of the t.v. screen watching to answer, and then says the answer anyway. hahahaha, keep an open mind and you are in for a treat. Take this class, its fun, and easy to pass if you don't fcuk up like me.

Professor Grundemeier was one of the best math teachers I have ever had. As long as you go to class and do your homework you will do just fine in the class. Each week you are given a quiz which helps to make sure you are caught up on the material. He is always avaliable for office hours and is extremely helpful. I can honestly say I have never understood calculus so well until I took this teacher! He's fantastic!

Dr. Grundmeier is an EXCELLENT lecturer, and makes sure that every single person in the class understands what's going on at any given time. He's also extremely helpful during office hours, but his tests are ridiculously hard. You will do fine if you do all of the assigned homework, which he doesn't collect. Key: self-motivation

To start, this guy has a degree in math education. So he doesn't just know how to do it, he knows how to teach it! Makes the world of a difference. You'll also notice during registration, his classes fill up fast, and then the waitlist goes beyond if every single enrolled person dropped, there would still be people on the waitlist. It's because he's great. He explains things clearly, and if someone asks a question he makes sure that they actually understand it before moving. That said, it was my first time taking calculus, compared to most of the calc 1 class who had calc in high school. So it was difficult, and semi fast paced. His test are hard, and he purposefully puts things on the final that people struggled with in class. But thats because he wants you to actually learn it. Super helpful in office hours, and in class. Willing to go over your mistakes on tests, etc. I really think he passed me because he knew I knew the material, I would just get caught up on these non-calculus errors. He's great! Take him, I'm bummed I won't get him for calc 2. :(

Grundmeier is a great Professor, he's easy to talk to, fun and excited about his class. He's very fair and lectures well. He writes quite a bit on the board, and every minute or so he asks "Is this ok?" and he means it. He will stop and answer questions the whole way through if you want him to. Show up to class though, the notes you take are important because at times he doesn't teach a process the same way as the book does, it's just easier to do it how he teaches; but if you choose another route, he never marks down for it, as long as you're using proper calc techniques for the topic you're studying. So if you need to use u-sub, use u-sub... but Grundmeier sets up his substitution different than I do, it did help me to learn the way he looks at them.

Professor Grundmeier is a nice guy, his class however I found to be extremely difficult. I would say 90% of the students in this calc 1 class took AP or regular calculus in high school and therefore thought this class was pretty manageable but still hard. More than half of my class failed the second midterm but he was nice enough to let us replace it with our final grade. He is a super understanding guy and if you are retaking calc 1 from high school you're going to do great, but if you are like me and only took precalculus your junior year I would HIGHLY recommend taking precalc first. As this is an engineering school, the teachers in the math department treat it as such and move very quickly. He assumes everyone has already heard a lot of the material and you are forced to spend hours and hours outside of class trying to figure out what is going on. Overall the class was not terrible but very very hard as a student who took statistics in high school and had never had to find a derivative in my life.

GO TODD! Todd is the most amazing professor/teacher I have ever had! He presents material really clearly and always stops to answer questions if anyone has them. Assigns homework but it is never collected. Quizzes were about weekly and were almost always based on the homework. The two midterms and one final were admittedly a bit difficult but Todd is big on partial credit. My advice would be to do all of the homework and keep a list of main ideas and concepts (which he tells you to do anyway). Amazing professor, TAKE HIM!!!

He knows what's up- he is unbelievably clear and really really caring of his students, he is so damn courteous also, whenev u take a test or quiz he always has it graded by the next class period... no explanation can give him the credit he deserves, it is good to know there are profs like this on campus that actually have a passion for teaching, rather than just testing their students. take Dr. G if u want to be really happy about your math class.

Todd is the man. Best math professor i've had here in my short two quarters. He goes over lecture thurally and he doesn't skip over the details, which is good to understanding what you are doin' in calculus. He is easily approchable to ask questions and his offices hours are the perfect time to gain insight and wisdom, and also have your hardest math questions answered. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of applicability of what he taught, but that is the subject not him so if you hate calc, take todd, he makes the burdon of calc lighter.

Considering I'm not a math person and this was my last quarter of math, Todd was pretty good at teaching Calc II. However, this class is definitely geared around preparation for 143, so I'd recommend him more for someone who's moving farther in math. He's a great lecturer - very organized. Quiz every week, exam every 3 weeks... 3 exams and one final. If your final is higher than one exam grade, he replaces that exam with the final.

Don't get the wrong idea from the high rating of this teacher that this is an easy class!! grundmeier is a great teacher, but the material is tough. your grade consists of a quiz every week except exam weeks (30%), 3 midterms (15% each), and a final (25%). Your lowest quiz score is dropped and if you do better on the final than you do on one of the midterms, you get to replace your lowest midterm grade with the one you get on the final. in order to succeed in this class you need to stay on top of the homework. i usually spent the whole day before the exam studying my butt off, but obviously that isn't enough if you really want to do well. do ALL the homework and go in for help if you need it and you should be able to pull a decent grade. don't shrug off the quizzes like i did, because it makes up the biggest portion of your grade. grundmeier doesnt really curve so dont expect help from that. i do think grundmeier is an excellent teacher, but if you're looking to get a good grade, try to get KAUL instead of grundmeier. i originally was registered in that class but switched it because it was early in the morning....but from what i read in the syllabus and heard from friends, the grading scheme is much more forgiving. group quizzes every week that make up 30 percent of your grade...extra credit for doing all the homework. check his polyratings....he's supposed to be legit

I know everyone likes Todd. But he can be a tough grader. He has quizzes every week and three midterms. He tells you exaclty whats on the quizzes and whats on the tests. The tests and quizzes are straight from the homework, so even though homework isn't due, its wise to do it. Overall calc 2 is fairly difficult, its all integrals and how to get antiderivatives. But he is very good at explaining things and showing you all the possible ways to get to an answer. He is really helpful in office hours and is really easy to talk to. Don't ever be intimidated to ask how to do the algebra, he is really nice to answer that. Basically the whole class is memorizaion and minuplation, so if that is what you enjoy and your good at it then you will enjoy the class. But if you are lacking in those things, then the class will be a challenge. But if you have todd, he will make it seem easier than you would believe. He really knows how to make you understand the math language. But he got his degree in math education, so he is legit. Overall, a good class, challenging, but I learned alot and am ready for the next math class.

Dr. Grundmeier is the only reason I passed Calc 2. I despise math and mostly despise Calculus, but this his class wasn't too bad. He presented material very cleary and always asked if there were any questions and then after answering your question he would ask if his answer made sense or satisfied your question. Great teacher, but don't get me wrong Calc 2 is hard. Do the homework and stay on top of it. He doesn't make it due, but it's a wise idea to do it and stay caught up in it with where he is in the lecture. 3 midterms, a "final", and a quiz every other week, he also drops one quiz and replaces a midterm with your "final" grade if your "final" was higher giving you a better final grade in the class.

Todd is the best!!!! The class: %30 quizzes, he drops the lowest quiz score, the hardest quizzes he usually makes group quizzes and splits up the students who are doing best in the class I am not sure what the exact break down is for the last %70 but there are 2 midterms and 1 final. In my class the average was so low on one of the midterms that he replaced your lowest midterm grade with the grade you got on the final (a true american hero) Todd's teaching style: A large portion of calc 2 is applying equations to different problems, he goes step by step to prove each equation, shows you how to tackle the equations, has you try it on your own and then further explains. He teaches in such a way that students who are both good and poor at math can understand. He takes the time to make sure each student is learning. You have to stay on top of your own learning and if you struggle DO THE HOMEWORK, but if you put in the effort Todd is a great teacher and you will learn a lot. Even though I got a C+ in this class Todd is easily the best teacher I have ever had I learned so much! 10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND

As all other Math 248 reviews will tell you, this class is difficult for most. BUT, Todd is the most intelligent teacher I have had at Cal Poly. He is so invested in student's learning and is extremely good at presenting the material in many different ways to help you understand. The class is centered around inquiry based learning which involves student's presenting the problems they worked on and has very little lecture. The structure does hurt a little bit if you are more centered around working by yourself but his office hours are very helpful and he has 3 separate times per week. The grading system is also very lenient and not heavily weighted on exams. Take this professor for 248 and you won't regret it.

This is a hard evaluation for me to write. Usually I have a strong opinion on the instructor of a course, but I am very indifferent in this case. I'll start by saying that I absolutely despise Geometry because I think that it's relevant to my opinion. Honestly, if you're in the teaching concentration and you have to take this course then it may amount to nothing more than a necessary evil for you. Some people see the constructions easily and can visualize the proofs quickly.. more power to those people. If you are one of those people then you will love the style of this class. It is called "Student Based Enquiry". Translation: Teach Yourself Everything. That's right, no lecture, no examples , not even a text book. Just a list of theorems and you sitting at a computer screen. Do you get better at proving things? Yeah. Do you get good grades while doing it? Not always. If you aren't great at teaching yourself then this class will not be a pleasant experience for you. As for Todd as a teacher, I don't really know what to say. He didn't exactly teach me anything, really the only times he influenced my learning was when he was marking down homework and exams. I can see him as a good teacher in another setting, but he didn't serve as a teacher for 442.
